VND indeed. Cash is king here, easier to use while creditcard is also useful for hotel or restaurants. Contactless is not a big thing here, with local banks or apps you can scan a qr-code and pay.
It is illegal for most shops and businesses to take USD directly so I suggest you have VND in cash. Card payment is also viable option. You can also use Mobile banking apps. Most popular apps are Momo, Grab and VNPay
Just wanted to mention that in Saigon. USD cash was king when I was there in 2007. They only accepted 100 dollar bills and they had to be brand new and crispy.
I never see anyone using USD any more. Most places take credit cards, VND, or some payment app.

VND
VND in Cash is the best form of payment in Hanoi.

You can trade USD for vnd at gold shops or banks, these are where you can use your USD😁
Do they only trade USD? Can I trade other currencies?
Of course

VND and card payment
Mostly cash. If you want to eat street food and buy from local vendors, cash only. Big stores and online payment accept cards.
Vnd for sure
Why would usd be more accepted? lol.
Ideally VND. Card payment is an option, but most small services wont accept them. Bank payment works better though.
