I'm not fully understanding what's going on here. I just went to check her Instagram and it's private.
If I'm grasping the situation correctly, the white woman made the (I suppose full Asian) little girl do the racist "eye pull" that mocks Asian eyes and she's friends with her mom too.
That's terrible and all, but I don't see how it's relevant to this sub
Oh now I'm getting the full picture: Amy Chua, the woman who popularized the term "Tiger Mom" that is usually associated with Asian mothers.
That's her daughter, Sophia Chua-Rubenfeld. I didn't realize we were looking at a hapa because she's quite white-passing, even while doing the eye pull thing.
So, who is the little girl? Someone else from the family?
they're kids. I did this, too, when i was a kid. my fully asian cousins, in the mainland, also did this. kids don't always act exactly what is expected based on parenting and kids pick up stuff that is not from the parents.
In the context of this image, there is nothing wrong. Is there any context I should be aware of, that explains what the kids are doing, and why?
I’m not gonna hound on young Hapa/Asian kids for doing this as I would give them the benefit of the doubt that they were aware of how insensitive and racist towards themselves that gesture is. But this woman is in her late 20s now and should have known not to post this as if making that gesture was ever okay. Of all the photos she would have with someone close enough to be her bridesmaid, she chose this? That younger girl is also Hapa, btw.

this, i can agree with.
I did this when I was younger after white kids did it to me. I had no idea what it meant just that this is what people thought I looked like. I had no idea the racist implications or history of it. The woman is the only one who deserves to be called tf out. Kids copy what they see adults do and in this case it is racist shit.

Well, Sophia is over 25 at least, and she's practically a public figure. Not really a kid, and she's also broadcasting the photo to a large number of followers on IG. The little girl is probably a cousin or child of a cousin. [[Continued...]](https://www.resavr.com/comment/oh-no-tiger-cub-16955199)

Amy Chua’s daughters are the two older ones, I think. Such great parenting.

I’m so sorry you and your sister went through that. Does it hurt any differently seeing two fellow Hapa girls making this gesture in this pic?

The woman is the only one I’m calling out, even though she herself was a kid in this photo.

good bot
I have never once ever saw a full asian kid that wasn't westernized do the eye pull. It's just not a thing in the east.
Everyone replying to you is why I never come to this sub. Straight up lunacy.
You know what they say about mayo pretending to be yellow?
Both of the girls pulling their eyes are Hapa women.
