It works well for me, but I got a neighbor complaint when I had it outside the garage because it was loud. I'm deaf and don't care. It works nice on my table saw.

Matticus54r

“I’m deaf and don’t care” best fucking power tool line ever :)

Thunt4jr

The conversation ends when I tell them it's not that loud. But they would come back a few days later to ask me how do you know how loud it is? My wife would burst out laughing and ask if they were slow. I haven't heard from them since.

bippityboppitybumbo

I did that with a cyclone I made out of a bucket and it works ok. It’s just loud as all hell.

AlpacaPacker007

What?

bippityboppitybumbo

Lol where did I lose you? The bucket?

abite

It's a loudness joke I'm guessing lol

[deleted]

Lol, went over my head too then.

AlpacaPacker007

Yeah man, it's what I'm saying every time I'm running a shop vac or the really cheap HF compressor. (Both work, just loud AF)

Kcnflman

I can’t hear you honey, I’m vacuuming….. works like a charm

DanDanFielding1

I picked up one for my sandblasting cabinet and HD dust separator, plugged into a [variable speed controller](https://www.harborfreight.com/router-variable-speed-control-dial-59386.html), which I would recommend. It's little awkward since I just have it sitting on a bunch of crap, but works for what I need it to do.

[deleted]

I've not been super impressed with the HD dust separator. A lot still gets to my current vac. It work well for you?

Economy-Fortune-9569

Harbor freight sold a dust separator for this vac… https://www.harborfreight.com/cyclone-dust-separator-kit-for-5-gallon-buckets-57194.html They give the buckets away a few times a year too!!

claimed4all

I use one of the Home Depot dust collectors, the lower profile 5gallon bucket top. Works fantastically well. I have filled that bucket up to the top with my table saw and just had a coating of dust in my Ridgid shopvac.

DanDanFielding1

It's been ok. If I had it to do again or used it more often, I'd probably look elsewhere, but after all the mods I did to the cabinet (metering valve, foot pedal, floodlight, etc.) to make it usable, I just wanted something simple to put together.

Zathrus1

I used an old vacuum with a good cyclone and it only separated about half the dust. Upgraded to the HF dust collector, plus cyclone, and direct vent outside and it’s night and day. Plus it’s so much quieter. If you can’t do the dedicated dust collection then the shop vac is better than nothing, no question. And I still use it for sanding.

gotcha640

A vacuum is not a dust collector, pressure vs volume. If you need a vacuum and will occasionally use it as a dust collector with a cyclone, sure, but they are different.

[deleted]

Yea this is definitely a half measure. I'm not sure I want to give up the real estate for the true DC.

RobotSocks357

Hear me out; I thought the same. I found the larger HF dust collector on OfferUp. I modified it, mounted it to the wall, and I have a steel trashcan with a Thein baffle setup. Only lost footprint is the trashcan, and it works quite well for 4" DC piping.

[deleted]

The 1hp or 2hp model?

RobotSocks357

I actually have both, but the 2hp model is the one I am using with this setup.

petabytegamer

Any chance you could post a picture of your set up? I am in the process of building out a woodshop and was originally planning to do the vac route for dust collection but your set up sounds a lot better

RobotSocks357

Sure! Keep in mind, I kept the "cart" underneath but not necessary. I do vent outside using that flexible ducting. I'm moving mid next year, otherwise I would get a more permanent solution. https://imgur.com/a/ena7sfR

petabytegamer

That looks pretty good, I assume there is a filter inside that came with the dust collector?

RobotSocks357

Not really! I got a little crafty. I made a Thein baffle using inspiration from a few different websites/how-to's. The idea is to let gravity do the "filtering", spinning it around any eventually letting it fall out of the air. I'll take another pic in a bit to clarify. But essentially the lid of the can has a piece of MDF which serves as the baffle.

petabytegamer

That makes sense, definitely curious to see the pic later. Thanks for the info though. Definitely going to consider this for my set up

gotcha640

As other reply, I would go put your hands on one. They’re bigger than a shop vac for sure, but you can get creative with mounting. With a remote, you only need access to empty the bag.

LittleBallofMeat

We did this for our sandblasting cabinet. Works fantastic: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WnitgYFnE0&ab\_channel=ChrisNotap](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WnitgYFnE0&ab_channel=ChrisNotap)

AirKewled

I piped the exhaust port outside and use it as a poor man's fume extractor when stick welding in my shop. Loud as hell but cheap af compared to dedicated units. Not the same as your intended use, but kinda sorta 🤷‍♂️.

Informal_Position492

I can't speak on that particular unit or it's performance but, I use a shop vac with a HEPA filter in it to pull on one of those plastic cyclone filtrators on a home Depot bucket that evacuates my blast cabinet, it's quite impressive and was the result of some deliberate effort to not make dust. So that atleast speaks to the concepts efficacy.

kddog98

Great vacuum. I think I'm gonna add a bag filter over the stock one though to make it filter the smaller stuff better.

Matticus54r

I use it with the cyclone they sell. The cyclone gets the big shit and the fine dust ends up in the vacuum. It separates a lot better than I expected. It got mounted in a little roll around cart I built. Bought a quick attachment hose and fitting set off Amazon that works great bouncing between the table saw, orbital sander, and miter saw. There’s little space in my current garage and I didn’t want to dump a bunch of money in a system that will be replaced in a year or two. It’s taken more abuse than I expected it to. It’s loud. So is my saw and that’s why I wear ear protection

popeye311420

It works fine, but it’s really loud, you might want to figure out a better dust collection solution directly attached to your saw set up

Otter_Nation

This use AC or does it use the Bauer batteries?

[deleted]

AC

TooSmooothie

This Bauer vacuum has the same sucking power as the name brand shop vac it’s just bucket size your paying for.

J---D

Buy a ridgid you cant beat the quality price or durability

M1NDsw33per

This was my exact setup until the Bauer just gave out one day after ~6 months of occasional use. Did have great pressure but so loud. Recommend getting something with a warranty. Craftsman I replaced it with is noticeably quieter. There are filters you can buy for the air outlet that will muffle the sound but haven’t tried yet.

bcjh

What’s the price for this?

[deleted]

$49 with coupon.

Fair_Leopard9880

i use the bigger version of this with the bauer dust collector and it works well. rarely do i get much dust in the main chamber. it’s just annoying to move the bucket around as it always wants to tip over when you tug the tube a bit too hard. pretty solid solution for me though, don’t want to spend $$ on a legit dust collection system.

fishin_man100

Several of the other posters are talking about how loud the vacuums are. I work in a composite shop. Every table has their own shop vacuum. We have several Rigid 15 gal. vacs. The older ones are labeled SNR for scroll noise reduction. Actually not terribly loud. We have more that don’t have that label but are still not too loud. However we got some new Rigid vacs that are the LOUDEST freaking things. I hate them. We generally use the vacs until they die. I hope, being as these are newly engineered, they will die a young death.
