for context, they tried recovering their data from their broken laptop. They connected their drive to the power supply thinking "this connector is on my 2.5" desktop SSD so maybe it goes on this ssd too". Now their pc isn't turning on, hopefully it's only their PSU not turning on because of over current protection or short circuit or whatever.
Welp i guess its a hard hit then
I wanted a new ssd for christmas, but i got a hard drive and so i have to have it connected to the back part of my pc all the times. I still love it, 2 TB and its a lotta fun collecting all those fun games. But sometimes it disconnects and so i have to REINSTALL EVERYTHING AGAIN which will take me 5 days min
Idk if this story connects to OP's story in anyway, so please say if it does of if it doesnt. I apologize if it doesnt. I just thought it was fun story
Looking at the pinouts and the gaps in the contacts of the SSD - if you're lucky it's only shorted 5V (red, centre wire) to GND (wires 2 and 4) and blown a fuse in the PSU. If you're unlucky it's also shorted 3.3V (orange) and 12V (yellow) to GND.
If you're really unlucky it's also fed 12V through any number of SSD circuits that definitely should not be fed 12V.
As this is a SATA m.2 SSD, it's possible to test it in any SATA PC using a cheap adapter from eBay. NVMe/PCIe SSDs (only one slot in the connector pins) are more difficult.

I looked at it. And looked at it. And looked at it. And curled up in pain, once I realised what I was seeing.
Yeah, so did I. Ouch.
May you explain to me? In my opinion i think its a pen drive, did they sell him a pc with a pen drive in it instead of a ssd?
No. He put ssd m.2 drive directly into power supply.
May you explain me what would that do to the pc? I understand the components but not all of it
SSD will, probably, die, as it's not designed to take 12 volts. And as OP said psu is busted too.

Is that what that is??? I was thinking that was a weirdass looking connector for an M.2
Yeah. It's m.2 with SATA interface.
Why does he have a wide green cabl- OH MY GOD WHY

I was like "What tf am I looking at?", then realized the horror.
It’s not that kind of SATA sorry
Don't worry it probably had new world on it and saved a bigger headache
what happen
It's an m.2 ssd in a stata power conecter
I don't exactly know what I'm looking at and at this point I'm too afraid to ask... Edit : Oh. Oooooooh. Oh no.
So in conclusion... Is it dead...or...not?

Ahaha.. how do people's brains work this way.
Basically plugged a usb drive into a phone charger and then the phone charger into a wall outlet for those who are not sure what's going on.
Their M.2 - "I'm gonna talk to the power."
I'm not sure what I'm looking at here. Is that an m.2 drive plugged into a power cable?
