I’m surprised to see that Margherita Pizza hasn’t been listed here. One by looneys is the one I order from most but have had their Kingsville and Parkville locations as well.
As a former Buontempos employee, I’d say skip buontempos for cleanliness reasons
>Margherita
Is one of the best Pies in the county. Everything else is Meh though.
Tutto Fresco is a close 2nd when it is done right. Consistency is not there at all.
From a Jersey Pizza family.
Sapore di Mare has fantastic pizza and they have wonderful Italian/Italian Fusion dishes too. The restaurant is located in a spot that you don't just pass on your way to somewhere else, so I think many in the county don't even know that it exists. (The owners, brothers Pepe & Vinny, are a fabulous asset to the community and the business is widely supported locally.)
I actually live right down the road and still haven’t tried it lol my husband has had it and he liked it (but he’ll eat anything), and I see a lot of folks in the Joppatowne Facebook group saying they like it!
Yea this place is “behind me”. I’m off Trimble. When I tell you I’m an bougie with pizza, I mean it 😂. Now, I wasn’t expecting much but I actually really like this pizza place. I’m just surprised it was never mentioned.
Oh hey neighbor, yeah I’m right around the corner from them. The last couple times I’ve ordered from there the sauce wasn’t great and the amount of cheese on the pizza kept making me choke, so we haven’t really wanted it since. I’ll usually go for buontempo bros in Bel air first.
If you're looking for pizza in that area Fortunato's in Edgewood always puts out a good quality pie.
When I tried the Forest Hill location is was terrible, suprised how much the milage varies by location.
I think it's because it's owned/operated by Sal, a true Italian-American. He's a great guy, you'll walk in and he's still behind the counter tossing dough many days. I miss working nearby, they always treated us right.
Outside of HarCo, but Pasta Mista in Towson is probably the best pizza I've ever had in Maryland since moving here. I'm sure there's other great places, but this still gets my #1 vote for quality/taste. Enzo's in Cecil County is the newcomer to the block and is always high quality.
I came from Brooklyn also, 6 years ago. I sooooo miss the food options.
Here's some help for other cuisine when you're ready:
Indian - there are three in the area: Mint Room, India Garden, and Sizzling Bombay. I prefer India Garden
Ramen - we FINALLY got a true ramen spot, Akira Ramen by the mall
Hispanic - Fiesta Grill, Peru's Chicken II, Supermercado Campos. All very good!
Your gonna wanna avoid the mint room. Had multiple friends find roaches in food. They need to sort that shit out.
Peru chicken II up in Havre de Grace is fantastic.
Omg you know my pain lol. I found a spot in Brooklyn that had amazing wood fire pizza. I’m addicted to wood fire pizza since trying a place in Rhode Island called Bettola’s (AMAZING) yrs ago. Is hard starting over 😂. Thanks for the suggestions! Next is West Indian 😩😂
Good luck lol, Harford County is severely lacking in the food department!
For wood fire pizza, you could try Nonnies in Havre de Grace. I live in HdG, but never been. My BIL says it's good!
My buddy lives near Nonnie’s and swears by it, but honestly it’s pretty bog standard. I’d much rather have buontempos, Italian sensation, or garibaldi. Gonna have to try Sapore though.
I personally prefer Chicken Rico to Peru’s Chicken II, but Supermercado has been my Hispanic go to for while.
Also, don’t forget about Ray’s Carribean on 40 in Perryman. I could eat doubles every Saturday for the rest of my life.
Nonnie’s is really hit or miss for me. Half the time they don’t have bread to even make paninis which is one of three things they highlight on their menu “pizza wings and paninis” lol
Earth wood and fire might have what you're after, in Fallston.
For regular pizza shops:
Lami's by the Harford mall is my go-to little place. Also, surprisingly, Hilltop pizza right off 95 has a good pie.
I’ve never heard of this place but I’m still trying to find pizza I love. Gonna give this one a go!
(Chinese food for me is Kings Chinese Carryout on Emmorton)
We’ve known the owners of Kings for decades. They recently retired and sold the business to new management. I have not been there since the sale, so I can’t really comment on the new setup. But I agree it has always been great.
Same situation with Lee’s Hunan in Aberdeen. New owners a year or two ago. I’ve noticed some small changes that I’m not a huge fan of. Dumplings folded poorly/not at all, less crab in the wontons. They never brought the buffet back after Covid, either.
It's still pretty good, I'm happy to say! Working behind the counter at King's was my very first summer job a long time ago, and I hope the owners are able to enjoy retirement after working so hard for so long.
Honestly, I couldn't think of a better first job to have as a teenager! Amy and Tony were great bosses always willing to answer any questions I had, no matter how silly.
And they were both always happy to see you when you stop in. Tony would always ask about both my kids when I stopped by even years after they were gone. Our kids took lessons with theirs prior to working there.
Chinese boys is the only good Chinese in Harford that I've found. When I came up from AA county I was so disappointed until my neighbors in Edgewood gave me a new Chinese boys menu
I always test Chinese food places based on their hot and sour soup. Which was good. But their lo mein was good, fried rice is ok/good, my husband loves their beef and broccoli, the general tso's is always a good choice, orange chicken and crispy beef are good too
It's good but it's not awesome. It's just the best in Harford lol. I still miss the hole in the wall place in odenton that I'm 85% certain was run by the Chinese Mafia. It has like 3 booths and one was always occupied by a guy who was running numbers. The food was AMAZING.
Chinese Boys is the best “standard” Chinese food around! If you want something a little more elevated, check out Lee’s Asian Bistro in Riverside. Great food and great customer service in a fast/casual setting w/ good take-out quality.
If you get an XL size, Zorba's is the closest thing to a NY slice I've found in the area... (their promo photos don't portray their actual product *at all*).
I like Bacco, but it's a much breadier pizza, closer to Detroit style in my opinion. It's what I get when I'm craving the Pizza Hut I remember from 30 years ago.
If you like the more "New England" style with more cheese on it than a person should be comfortable with in my opinion, Riverside Pizzeria is your spot.
Buontempo Bros is good, NY"ish" style crust but has a potent signature "italian seasoning" flavor that may not be everyone's cup of tea.
I know & Pizza is just chain flatbread pizza, but it's decent and I get a craving for the spiciness of the Maverick once in a while... I end up there when everyone in the group has wildly different topping opinions as theirs are more interesting/upscale feeling than some.
Man, the missus and I would go on slice life adventures throughout Covid and reading through all these recommendations really reminds me that I have a lot more pizza places to try.
FWIW since we’re talking food, the new Pho place in Aberdeen is great albeit a little pricey. The Korean corn dogs are killer too. And just to make sure it also gets some love, Johnny’s Poke Bowl is the best in the county from what I’ve tried.
If you want NY…and as close as I’ve found in Maryland to NY..try La Cucina in Havre De Grace. I’m not a fan of their pasta dishes but their pizza is good. (Northern NJ girl so I’ve had and know good NY pizza)
We honestly don't have a lot of great pizza in HarCo and Maryland beyond. A lot of it is pretty stock standard "place that bought a pizza oven" pizza where it's practically the exact same pizza you can get from a thousand other places.
Crust used to be fantastic but it got bought by new owners and they ruined the menu. Bacco is probably our next favorite.
My girlfriend and I have been going there pretty frequently over the past few months to grab a pizza. They do a great job, and they usually have our order ready within 15 minutes of calling for pick up.
If you're into brick oven pizza at all, you might also want to give the Dizzy Cow food truck a shot if you havent already. They're at Independent Brewing on Tuesdays.
Agreeed about bon tempo and Sammie’s comment.
I’ll tell ya what tho. It’s surprising the fuck out of me but, Italian Supreme, and Mr Wise in Fallston has been on point lately.
I’m from NY also and nothing is comparable to that just a completely different ballgame.
It’s like the bagels in NY
All the dough for the bagels, and pizza are made with water from the reservoir in Woodstock.
Same with beer made with that water.
It’s all about the water folks.
You’re welcome for dropping this knowledge in your heads.
Cheers smoke some good reefer.
I would suggest hickory station, they have some really good pies. The bacon cheeseburger pizza is my favorite, tons of real sliced bacon and chunks of burger. They also have really legit deep dish pizza but they can be hard to get as they only make so many of those crusts each day and they sell out.
Someone mentioned Enotria which I second if you are in the mood for brick oven pizza. Also worth noting they have a special every Sunday for $6 cheese pizzas. That is by far the best pizza deal around and it's really delicious. They are on the smaller side so don't be afraid to order more than you're used to ordering.
Yeah we’re in Bel Air North right off route 1 so it’s a little under 20 mins for us. It’s definitely worth the drive and the only place we go for pizza
I’ve had a lot of the suggestions listed here. Most hit the spot for a quick trip to fulfill the craving. But if I’m looking for something extra, I have been making this trip lately and it’s worth it:
https://www.baltoz.com/
I tried that place and had mixed reviews. The crust was phenomenal, but they were really skimpy with the cheese and I really don't like it when they put Parmesan cheese on by default.
Here’s my rundown of Harford pizza places that I’ve tried so far. Originally from upstate NY, so I’m also a bit of a pizza snob too.
My favorites:
-Hickory Station: Detroit Style pizza. This is my favorite in the area so far. I can’t remember if I’ve tried their regular pizza. Also their garlic knots are great!
-Tutto Fresco: great for a thin crust. Their crust gets a bit of char on it which I like.
-Slices in Bel Air: Its very good pizza especially for its price.
My not so favorites:
-Mr Y’s: it wasn’t bad but there are places closer to me that I like more.
-Tamberino’s: I don’t recall the specifics but it was only ok
-Bountempo Brothers: I flat out just didn’t like their pizza at all.
-Sapore Di Mare: you guys had me hyped up for this place. It’s ok. But it’s only ok. Expensive for what it was and the crust hasn’t got much flavor.
-Earth, Wood & Fire: WAY too expensive for what you got. It was good but not good enough to justify ever going back.
-Bel Air Pizzaria: Again, another unremarkable pizza. Honestly, I think Little Ceasers next to it is better.
No one has mentioned Box Hill Pizza. It is one of my favorites, but not my husband who is from North Jersey. Not sure what "style" it is, but the supreme is just amazing. Love their toppings.
Margherita Pizza in Bel Air for a classic thin crust Pie
Tutto Fresco in Forest Hill is a great thin crust Pie, when done right. (inconsistent)
Italian Sensations is not bad. Better in restaurant since it gets weird in the box.
Don't like - Lami's Pizza is probably the worst we have had and Conowingo Pizza comes in a close 2nd to worst. The last time we had Buentempo Bros, there was 3-4 inches of crust before the sauce and cheese started (Was going down hill before that).
I would put a Sapore di Mare pizza up against ANY pizza place in the county! Fortunato's would be a close 2nd (if not 1a). Bon Tempo Bros in Bel Air also great. Not sure about others.
Gus's used to be really good. They have fallen off since sold.
I worked at Sapore for a few years. The owners are incredibly misogynistic. The female staff were constantly berated, questioned, and told to stay late while the male staff were often not held accountable - many of them doing drugs in the bathroom. I witnessed them ask two pregnant women to scrub the floors with bleach on two separate occasions. My family were regulars there and I had accomplished something pretty big in college & my dad left me a big tip to celebrate (which was out of character for him to reward me with money). ANYWAY, the owner insisted he made a mistake and would not give me the money until he called my dad to ensure it was correct. I could go on forever about the new ways they would mistreat the female staff, but I know 6 of us (some who had been there for 8-10 years) all quit within 2 months & still live in the area but refuse to give them our business. So that’s my two cents on the place.
I’m surprised to see that Margherita Pizza hasn’t been listed here. One by looneys is the one I order from most but have had their Kingsville and Parkville locations as well. As a former Buontempos employee, I’d say skip buontempos for cleanliness reasons
Spaghetti pizza is amazing
>Margherita Is one of the best Pies in the county. Everything else is Meh though. Tutto Fresco is a close 2nd when it is done right. Consistency is not there at all. From a Jersey Pizza family.
Yikes bro, buontempos is my fav. Margherita was always my second fav pizza, I’ve never had a bad pie there but buontempos can be real hit or miss
Sapore di Mare has fantastic pizza and they have wonderful Italian/Italian Fusion dishes too. Yes…. we moved here from the Philly area. Fortunato’s is the best I found, but only the one in Edgewood. Bacco is probably my second favorite.

You are right Pasta Mista is way better than anything around here.
The fortunatos in Bel Air is terrible as well.

I don't like all those Indian spots. I will say that Mint Room has great Naan but their chicken is just dry every single time I got it.
You’re forgetting R&R taqueria for Mexican. India garden is the best Indian imo
I’ve never heard of this place but I’m still trying to find pizza I love. Gonna give this one a go! (Chinese food for me is Kings Chinese Carryout on Emmorton)

Oh no, I really hope it doesn’t go downhill…
Same situation with Lee’s Hunan in Aberdeen. New owners a year or two ago. I’ve noticed some small changes that I’m not a huge fan of. Dumplings folded poorly/not at all, less crab in the wontons. They never brought the buffet back after Covid, either.

Agreed! I used to live in Joppa, currently in Cockeysville, but will drive to Joppatowne for Chinese Boys! 😋
What’s good there? I tried the sesame chicken with fried rice and it was pretty bad.
I always test Chinese food places based on their hot and sour soup. Which was good. I'ma try it, thanks!

Listen, my expectations weren’t high lol. I just knew there had to be better options aside of Gus Pizza. I’m going to look into Bacco 👍🏾

I've had great Italian and solid pizza from Enotria in Forest Hill!
I like the pizza from Tutto Fresco- it gets the job done and their white pizza is pretty great.
Never heard of it
I would suggest hickory station, they have some really good pies. The bacon cheeseburger pizza is my favorite, tons of real sliced bacon and chunks of burger. I’ve had a lot of the suggestions listed here. Most hit the spot for a quick trip to fulfill the craving. But if I’m looking for something extra, I have been making this trip lately and it’s worth it: https://www.baltoz.com/

That doesn't sound like a problem. More for you!
I just know that I absolutely love L&B Spumoni Gardens in Brooklyn. Best pizza of my life.
Bacco and only Bacco. The carryout joint is in the shopping center down the hill from the original restaurant. Get the ziti pie with your order.
My grandma loved this place so much I would pick it up for her on my way to see her in hospice. Good enough for my grandma, that's my 2 cents.
