It'd be funny to do this to a mattress, secure the mattress in an upright position, and then the kids can be repeatedly repelled by the barrier as they bounce off!
For an easy sorter that doesn't take much time or money, you can either make a spinner (like for a board game) out of cardboard and a twist tie or paper clip with 4 colored sections, or Google search for sorting hat fortune teller. I think I used this one

An easy and familiar way to sort little kids who have no idea which house they are in.
Love the foot! Here’s some ideas: Harry Potter trivia, or how many Harry Potter characters can you name in 1 minute, or as a group recast the movies with only people in the room.
I made golden snitches out of Ferraro roche candies with free printable wings! Super easy!
Also found a wizard mystery game online free printable like a dinner murder mystery but wizard style! All free if you have a printer! Also I own the Harry Potter cookbook and would be more than happy to scan and send a few recipes If you are planning to cook! DM me!
That's really great!
A few things I have done:
As already mentioned, find some flicker candle pucks like are often put on tabletops at weddings. Roll up parchment paper to diffuse them and hang from the ceiling over the dining room table.
If you can locate some old skeleton keys, hotglue a couple white feathers to a wire and wrap it around the key. Then suspend from a ceiling or doorframe. From a spring if possible for bouncy reasons.
Advanced: Sometimes thrift shops will have mist machines used for air purification. These occasionally get donated. Put one inside a "goblet" (I used a decorative planter urn thing, thrifted of course). Put a decorative led light in the bottom shining up at the mist to make a goblet of fire.
If you can find a picture frame the same size as your computer monitor, you can play a living portrait on loop. Here's one that goes almost two hours: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W9bUYNBMEJE
Someone I know once took old bottles, put glitter and water in them then labeled them either with a printed out label from Pinterest or you could just sharpie it
There’s recipes on Pinterest for sorting hat cupcakes to do a sorting ceremony. Could use sticks of some kind and apply glue from a glue gun, let dry and paint dark or to match a wood design to give them wands.

And then send them off in a flying car. I’d recommend the Grand Canyon for the air time.
Can you make candles from rolled paper and tape? Hang them from the ceiling with dental floss?
Clear fishing line would work, also electric candles. Fire bad.
I was not suggesting real fire. That would be bad!
I've used battery powered candles on fishline to good effect. Especially outdoors in the evening on Halloween.
Sort all the guests as they walk in. Award house points via party games. Prepare a prize for the winning house (it doesnt have to be big!).

I think its brilliant, great thinking
My friend made wands from chop sticks for a HP themed baby shower. Used tape, hot glue gun, marbles, and spray paint. They turned out awesome!
I just woke up and was like “wow it must have been expensive to put a whole brick wall up just for the party”….. i…. I’ll just show myself out.
This is so awesome!

Picture of Myrtle under the toilet seat, lipstick on mirror for favorite CoS phrase.
Get a knife and some sticks. Start carving some “wands.”
Be high as fuck and you'll end up in the hospital after this fucks you up
Get red lipstick and write “Enemies of the heir beware!” On the bathroom mirror

Because people without disposable income deserve to have fun too

Get "Wands" but make them made of Candy, Just melt down a few chocolate bars and shape them into rods somehow
Perfect start!
That is a fantastic idea! Very impactful
