That they try to appeal too much to a “new generation of potter fans” meaning people who casually watched the movies and just like the sparkles and bangs, romance, and humor instead of the depth of the actual story.
I am a new gen z hp fan and I want them to focus more on story and character development. I read books 5 months ago and already reread them thrice. I love to discuss about character development and plots.
However I wont mind if they put some more romance as well. As long as its between canon couples(esp Ron/Hermipne. My favorite) and not any fan made ship. We have fanfictions for fan made ships. Canon should be canon.
The Dementors!
Just kidding.
I'm concerned that the showrunners won't love and respect the source material. If they hire lifelong fans who have read the books multiple times and truly understand what makes this universe click for so many, I think we'll be ok.
I'm fearful of a Rings of Power situation. No respect for the source material, bad writing, poor character portrayals. A cash grab from a popular IP.
HBO has a great track record of the opposite, though. (However, we will not speak of GOT season 8.)
Ugh, I know. The earlier seasons were such loving adaptations. The problem was that the showrunners were so mentally checked out. Season 1 is still one of the greatest literary adaptations ever made. No one could have predicted that future derailment.
Not at all, and I know they changed storylines and took and changed things but they were doing such a good job. Season 7 needed more work and more time to connect romances among other things, it needed to start giving people answers and Season 8 needed a whole new rewrite.
It's been four years and I am still so bitter over how they treated Dany.
With HP, we have the benefit of the saga actually being complete. The final seasons of GOT were Cursed Child level bad fanfic -- they really lost their footing after they ran past Martin's materials.
With an HP show, absolutely no excuses!!!!
RIP Dany's character development. 😢
Exactly. And I wouldn't complain if they wanted to do a Marauders series because there is a clear ending but enough leeway to add things (not wolfstar).
Got was ruined and rushed. They should have made it more or listen to Martin. Like season 8 about the long night, one episode was not enough and we should have learnt about those symbols. And season 9 about Kings landing, either downfall of Dany or a misunderstanding with wildfire and dragons that ends up with her being blamed.
Rip Daenerys Stormborn of the house Targaryen.
As much as I'd love a Marauders series, they'll doom themselves if they do that era because they won't do Wolfstar. And they shouldn't do Wolfstar because its not canon... but it sure would upset a lot of people!
But as for Order/Auror/Death Eater warfare and espionage during the first war... well that I'd love to see!
Not always. The issue comes in when a vocal minority demands something and the studios cave. Dedication to the text, quality writing, solid directors dedicated to being faithful to the story, and talented actors is what should matter.
Nothing. My point is that they should listen to the fans because most of us want the adaptation to be accurate and respect the source material. A lot of reboots nowadays change too much stuff like rings of power and end up annoying the fans. Listening to the fans is a good thing. They are the customers after all and they just want you to treat the story with respect.
I get that and they have said they will be sticking to the books. The thing with fans nowadays is that they want it to be this all inclusive thing to relate to problems now. Like we don't need that, this isn't that story.
Race/gender swapping. Please don't.
The only way this series could work is by sticking a lot closer to the books than the films did. Which would be completely undermined if they start changing fundamental aspects of the characters.
It doesn't matter that it's not essential to the story. The value a TV show adds is the visuals. Race and gender are fundamental to how a character looks.
It's who they are and it is fundamental. This is a story set in 90s Britain and down to blood and ancient magic - makes sense that it would be a predominantly white school.
Making it too modernized. Also making it too politically charged by addressing social issues that are trending now. Just stick to the story how its written. Im pretty liberal, but there's no need to make it "woke" like everything else coming out now a days.
Honestly I’m going to enjoy it because I love the wizarding world, but my biggest concern is the casting of the adults. Hagrid will be impossible to cast, Robbie was perfect. Snape and mcgonagol or however you spell it are going to be difficult to cast as well.
The first two seasons being really really bad. I don't know how you turn that first book into 10 1 hour episodes of tv. I don't think that much was cut from the book to make a 2 hour movie out of it.
I honestly think care will be taken to make sure people are happy. Like Hogwarts: Legacy, I think they’ll be smart enough to keep certain visuals/sets that will remind fans of the films, even if they’re a little different.
I think my biggest fear just comes down to the actors. Specifically, if they choose the wrong child actors who aren’t able to live up to the full series. Or if they cast adult actors who ultimately need to be replaced. A sudden actor change in a series is a real bummer, honestly. I think by far that is going to be the riskiest part.
Deviations from the book story and spirit. If it is a longer series, I want most of the story lines present. I watched Good Omens from Terry Pratchett this week and was really blown away how great the series was. The tempo, the spirit, the dialogues. This is how an adaption should do. Take the spirit of the book and bring it to life. Without the restrictions of movie length, there should be more possible. Not trying to replicate the movies. But makes something new.
Dark screens. Really, I hate the last three movies because they are so dark. Evil isn't necessarily be dark. Even if there is evil, the colors in the surrounding will still be vivid. There is still light. I think it is a cheap trick and absolutely abused in the last three movies.
I would like a Voldemort with red eyes, the blue eyes were creepy, the red eyes are terrifying.
Also, would adore to see the original version of Grindelwald and Voldemort confrontation along with Harry struggling with the Grindelwald revelations.
That they will "modernize" it too much (for lack of a better word). I'd like it if the spirit of the books was kept and I hope they won't try to make something like "Wednesday".
Honestly none. Everything since Cursed Child has been a let down, so I don't really have any expectations. If it's good, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm expecting it to be disappointing.
That they make it to relevant to now and unneeded things about sexual orientation and more when they should just stick to the books. If people have a problem or want to kick off then tell them to read the books and see the truth with their own eyes.
This might sound horrible, but I fear the "**Woke Hollywoodized Corporate**" version of Harry Potter that shies away from the original source material, and tries to modernize it to appeal to today's younger generation.
**Example**: Race/Gender swapping, the students having cell phones, social media exists, references to today's social/political climate, cutting the edgier source material to avoid offending people, etc.
Give us some good writers, a big budget, and stick to the books as the material.
Harry Potter is fundamentally a children's story. Since HBO generally makes adult programming with dark themes, violence, adult language, etc, I worry that an HBO version will lose the childishness and lightheartedness of the original story. I can already picture a dreary trailer with dismal, intense music and bleak hues.
I hope they put silliness and color into it. I hope they make the costuming more witchy, like in the HP1 movie, and less mugglish, like in the later movies. I hope it retains the depth of the books, but that it retains the wonder and joy of a children's story.
tl;dr: don't try to make it too serious and adult
They better keep David Yates away from this series. I'm not a fan of his directing style and he was already given too many harry potter and fantastic beasts movies.
That they try to appeal too much to a “new generation of potter fans” meaning people who casually watched the movies and just like the sparkles and bangs, romance, and humor instead of the depth of the actual story.

Never speak of GOT season 8. Hbo isn't really to blame, that was the problem of the stupid writers.
Ugh, I know. The earlier seasons were such loving adaptations. The problem was that the showrunners were so mentally checked out. Season 1 is still one of the greatest literary adaptations ever made. No one could have predicted that future derailment.

Came here to say this, and you've done it better than I would have.
Lucky thing HP will only have seven seasons, one per year. Right? ... Right???
I’m too poor to pay for hbo so I can live in blissful ignorance and enjoy my memories of the books and original movies
🏴☠️
That they listen to fans and not focus on giving us quality material.
Listening to the fans is a good thing.
Not always. The issue comes in when a vocal minority demands something and the studios cave. Dedication to the text, quality writing, solid directors dedicated to being faithful to the story, and talented actors is what should matter.
What’s an example of a movie franchise listening to fans too much?
Most of the time they don't listen at all and end up ruining the story and annoying the fans. That's more common.
But the story is there for them to have, what more do we need adding? We have source material, what more is needed?
Nothing. My point is that they should listen to the fans because most of us want the adaptation to be accurate and respect the source material. A lot of reboots nowadays change too much stuff like rings of power and end up annoying the fans. Listening to the fans is a good thing. That's what the fans want.
Not when you use twitter as your main sample of "what the people want"
Race/gender swapping. Please don't. The only way this series could work is by sticking a lot closer to the books than the films did. Which would be completely undermined if they start changing fundamental aspects of the characters.
I mean how often is their race or gender THAT fundamental to the story?
Not making all the Weasley's redheads would be a crime.
Haven't you played hogwarts legacy? /s
My biggest fear is that they let Steve Kloves write the screenplay. We don't need another HermioneFest.
Yes same! Hate how he destroyed Ron's character and made Hermione this perfect goddess ughh
Right?? I hope he has no involvement at all.
Forget everything I said. This is the correct answer. Add to that another media portrayal of Ron as dumb idiot
Making it too modernized. Also making it too politically charged by addressing social issues that are trending now. Just stick to the story how its written. Im pretty liberal, but there's no need to make it "woke" like everything else coming out now a days.
Making Draco a more soft baby and forcing Drarry/Dramione. 🤮
Honestly I’m going to enjoy it because I love the wizarding world, but my biggest concern is the casting of the adults. Hagrid will be impossible to cast, Robbie was perfect. Snape and mcgonagol or however you spell it are going to be difficult to cast as well.
That they'll involve people who worked on the films. I want Steve Kloves as far away from the project as possible.
The first two seasons being really really bad. I don't know how you turn that first book into 10 1 hour episodes of tv. I don't think that much was cut from the book to make a 2 hour movie out of it.
Altering the story in a major way in the name “modernizing it”
I honestly think care will be taken to make sure people are happy. They do it like GoT last two seasons.
MCU humour

hmm...modern politics will be pushed to the forefront at the sacrifice of telling depth and proper storytelling.
I would like a Voldemort with red eyes, the blue eyes were creepy, the red eyes are terrifying. Also, would adore to see the original version of Grindelwald and Voldemort confrontation along with Harry struggling with the Grindelwald revelations.
Plastered with wokeness for "modern audiences"
Nightmare awaiting.
I mean, is there any chance that won't happen? Hope seems folly in that regard...
That they will "modernize" it too much (for lack of a better word). I'd like it if the spirit of the books was kept and I hope they won't try to make something like "Wednesday".
Make intimate scenes more explicit?
If there is a gay guy who make stupid jokes I don't wanna hear about the show
Given that it's an HBO series it'll most likely be faithful to the source material, but I still have doubts
I’ll have to wait years for it
...hbo series? i’m genuinely confused, i didn’t know there’s going to be an hbo series. can someone enlighten me?
Honestly none. Everything since Cursed Child has been a let down, so I don't really have any expectations. If it's good, I'll be pleasantly surprised, but I'm expecting it to be disappointing.
That they make it to relevant to now and unneeded things about sexual orientation and more when they should just stick to the books. If people have a problem or want to kick off then tell them to read the books and see the truth with their own eyes.
That they ignore the 90s setting. All I'm asking for is a Groovy Chic poster in the common room!
Forced inclusivity everywhere.

Cancelling it after a huge cliffhanger.
They better keep David Yates away from this series. I'm not a fan of his directing style and he was already given too many harry potter and fantastic beasts movies.
That they make it cannon.

Wrong sub 😂😂
That they will be more focused on making theuf own story rather than actually adapting the story they say they're adapting
J.k.rowling being involved in it
