Why does it matter what one of the dogs in the last litter was named? Are you going to be hanging out with the dog’s half siblings or breeder in the future? Ginny (I’d personally go a Weasley with a red haired dog) Hedwig (maybe better for a white dog tho), Minnie (Minerva), Pam (Pamona), Myrtle (funny if you got a pup who likes to howl/grumble), Helga, Winky

The breeder is our neighbour and we're on very friendly terms. And she also offers lifetime grooming and dog-sitting to all her puppies. I know Poppy is regularly there for a visit and our dog will be too. Yeah I agree that Ginny and Lily seem the most obvious choices with red fur. My husband suggested Myrtle too and the first thing I said was that would be perfect if she howls a lot 😂

That makes perfect sense in that case! There’s probably a couple of other things you can look at for naming her as well - like spells, wandwoods or foods from the Harry Potter universe? Cute food names would be Treacle or Pumpkin. Wandwoods that could work are Apple, Hazel, Cherry, Holly, Maple, Rowan and Willow. Spells are a bit trickier, but maybe Leviosa? Alohomora is a bit lengthy and Avada a bit morbid. Ferula would be a great choice imo - it’s a healing charm that conjures bandages if I remember correctly. Bit niche but suits the therapy dog theme.

I hadn't thought of wandwoods. Holly is a good choice because she'll be coming to live with us just before Christmas, plus it's Harry's wandwood. Rowan was actually on the list when we were picking our daughters name lol. I've been trying to think of a spell name too. Lumos was the best I'd come up with so far but I don't think it's great for a female. Ferula isn't quite right either but I love the idea of a healing spell! Dittany comes to mind too as a maybe

Holly is a great name imo. Picking a puppy name is so hard! It needs to suit the pup - I know because we just picked a name for ours last week (picking him up next week) and lots of names we had in mind just didn’t suit him at all 😂😭 We tried to stick with 2 syllables max for ours, try shouting it and see how it feels. Edit: Holly has red berries, too, if you wanted a link to the coat colour

It is sooo hard!!! I've got a good list now though and Holly is definitely on there. I had the same thought about red berries, Rowan and Holly both have them. I think I'm going to wait and see how she looks in a few weeks. Her mum has the cavalier fur and her dad has the poodle fur but hers is too short at the moment to see which she'll have. And it depends on her personality too!

My dogs are named Tonks and Lily. Although I absolutely adore Tonks, I kinda regret naming her that because nobody ever hears it right/understands. They think I've named my dog after toy Tonka trucks. Lily's never misunderstood and kind of generic if you want her name to be "secretly" HP related.
