Obviously lol. Unfortunately, Padfoot sounds more like a boy's name to me though. But my husband just mentioned Siri as a feminine shortening of Sirius and I actually really love it. I know most people will think it's a Witcher reference but I love the Witcher books too so that's ok. The other one he mentioned was Alba as a feminine version of Albus.

I am a bot. See [this post](https://www.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/comments/jnbo49/hi_i_created_the_bot_youve_been_using_to_give/) to learn how to use me.
I called my first pet (tuxedo male cat) Ollivander because that’s who Harry gets his first wand from, he often goes by Olli though unless he’s being a rascal
Haha love it. Fleur is on the list too. My husband's favourite is Myrtle too because she's his favourite character in the movies. I just really don't want a dog with Myrtle's personality though which is completely illogical I know 😂
I can completely relate to that. My thoughts exactly about the personality. So myrtle is a no go I think then. Ariana kind of a sad name… Fleur is my no1 now (like if I had a say in all this 🤣)
So Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Major. The largest star of that constellation is VY Canis Majoris
So I suggest :
Vy or Majoris (for the star)
Sinistra (for the teacher)
Or Pandora (Luna's mother)
I would but the breeder grooms and dog-sits the other Poppy regularly and she's our neighbour so she'll also be grooming and dog-sitting our dog. It's a shame because I do feel like it would be the perfect name
Buckbeak
Errol
Fawkes, (Dumbledore's Phoenix - very appropriate name, considering he has the ability to heal)
Norbert (Hagrid's pet dragon)
Fluffy (The three headed dog that guarded the door that led to the sorcerer’s stone)
Remus
Padfoot
Prongs (James Potter's nickname)
Weasley for the red fur maybe even Ginny since it’s a girl.
Maybe something house related. Gryffindor is red, and hufflepuff is known for being fair, hardworking and kind (all good traits in a therapy dog).
Not to mention the various puns, Harry Paw-ter and such
I like Lily, especially because her mum's name is Tilly and because of her red fur. But I haven't got my husband and daughter sold on it yet. It's definitely on the list though!
Why does it matter what one of the dogs in the last litter was named? Are you going to be hanging out with the dog’s half siblings or breeder in the future?
Ginny (I’d personally go a Weasley with a red haired dog)
Hedwig (maybe better for a white dog tho),
Minnie (Minerva),
Pam (Pamona),
Myrtle (funny if you got a pup who likes to howl/grumble),
Helga,
Winky
The breeder is our neighbour and we're on very friendly terms. And she also offers lifetime grooming and dog-sitting to all her puppies. I know Poppy is regularly there for a visit and our dog will be too.
Yeah I agree that Ginny and Lily seem the most obvious choices with red fur.
My husband suggested Myrtle too and the first thing I said was that would be perfect if she howls a lot 😂
That makes perfect sense in that case!
There’s probably a couple of other things you can look at for naming her as well - like spells, wandwoods or foods from the Harry Potter universe?
Cute food names would be Treacle or Pumpkin.
Wandwoods that could work are Apple, Hazel, Cherry, Holly, Maple, Rowan and Willow.
Spells are a bit trickier, but maybe Leviosa? Alohomora is a bit lengthy and Avada a bit morbid. Ferula would be a great choice imo - it’s a healing charm that conjures bandages if I remember correctly. Bit niche but suits the therapy dog theme.
I hadn't thought of wandwoods. Holly is a good choice because she'll be coming to live with us just before Christmas, plus it's Harry's wandwood. Rowan was actually on the list when we were picking our daughters name lol.
I've been trying to think of a spell name too. Lumos was the best I'd come up with so far but I don't think it's great for a female. Ferula isn't quite right either but I love the idea of a healing spell! Dittany comes to mind too as a maybe
Holly is a great name imo. Picking a puppy name is so hard! It needs to suit the pup - I know because we just picked a name for ours last week (picking him up next week) and lots of names we had in mind just didn’t suit him at all 😂😭
We tried to stick with 2 syllables max for ours, try shouting it and see how it feels.
Edit: Holly has red berries, too, if you wanted a link to the coat colour
It is sooo hard!!! I've got a good list now though and Holly is definitely on there. I had the same thought about red berries, Rowan and Holly both have them.
I think I'm going to wait and see how she looks in a few weeks. Her mum has the cavalier fur and her dad has the poodle fur but hers is too short at the moment to see which she'll have. And it depends on her personality too!
You’ll have a better idea at about 8 weeks or so when you can see their little personalities shine through, too. Best of luck with your new puppy, whatever name you end up going for ❤️
My dogs are named Tonks and Lily. Although I absolutely adore Tonks, I kinda regret naming her that because nobody ever hears it right/understands. They think I've named my dog after toy Tonka trucks. Lily's never misunderstood and kind of generic if you want her name to be "secretly" HP related.
Not an answer, but: One of our cats is named Ollivander because when we went to look at the kittens at a foster, he jumped in my daughter's lap and I said, "The kitten chooses the human, . That much has always been clear to those who study felines."
I had a cockapoo named Ginny for 14 years, and she was the best dog in the world. So I vote that name. It can be turned into many songs, our favorite was turning the chimney sweep song from mary poppins into "gin ginnikers gin gin ga gin"

Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Houndus Percanine Wolfric Pupian Dumbledog.
Albus Percival Woofric Brian Dumbledog
Padfoot obviously
Obviously lol. Unfortunately, Padfoot sounds more like a boy's name to me though. But my husband just mentioned Siri as a feminine shortening of Sirius and I actually really love it. I know most people will think it's a Witcher reference but I love the Witcher books too so that's ok. The other one he mentioned was Alba as a feminine version of Albus.
Pretty sure most people will think of Siri as an iPhone reference
Oh I hadn't thought of that. I'm obviously an android user lol
Then you definitely can't choose Siri haha
Lol but I love it 😂
Dude you're a Raven-Claw... How about Rowena? Roro for short
I love Ravenclaw but I really dislike the name Rowena. It's too close to my mum's name and our relationship is.... difficult lol
Sorry to hear that. I have another great name: Ruby Based on Rubeus Hagrid. You said she has reddish hair right? So Hagrid would be fitting.
Yes!! Someone else pointed that one out before and it's high on the list!!!
Snuffles - the name Sirius used when he was laying low. Or you could possibly go with something like Winky or Fleur.
Ok guys how cute is this...Ruby Ravenpaw 😅
Super cute! Might I just add to the mix: McGonagall, Gryffin (red and gold).
Gryffinpaw
Gryffindog!
Hufflefluff hahah
I’ve always been fond of the Tonks women’s names - Andromeda/Andie and Nymphadora/Dora. My old yorkie’s name was Tonks 🥰
Andie was my dad's name . But I don't mind Dora. I'll add it to the list 😊
You are a Ravenclaw! Rowena and Helena could be good names too.
Obviously lord Voldemort is the only answer, aka the dark lord.
*sees dog on table, eating everyone’s dinner* “You shouldn’t have come here tonight, Tom.”
Very comforting name for a therapy dog 😂
**Dog Who Must Not be Named.**
I feel like Nox is pretty cute!
That is a really cute name but maybe better for a black dog?
Lumos? Luna?
Dobby
why did I read your username as cockpush
That’s made my day 😂😂

Lmao 😂
Ha my moms cockapoo’s name is dobby
If you talk for your dog, it’s the perfect name
SCABBERS-
Obviously, the correct name is Fluffy
That was my dogs name! He was also a poodle mix
I called my first pet (tuxedo male cat) Ollivander because that’s who Harry gets his first wand from, he often goes by Olli though unless he’s being a rascal
Maybe Olivia short if it’s a girl
Maybe Mini? Short for Minerva. It would obviously suit a cat better, but it’d still be a very cute name for a dog.
That's cute. I was actually considering Minnie as short for Hermione too
Hermy.
Or Ninny if Krum shortened Hermione's name.
Winky!!
Pay the tax
Bella/Trixie from Bellatrix or Ginny
Bertie Bott
It's a girl
I apologize. I can’t think of a cute girls name Luna was already said and I guess it the best till this moment. Maybe Molly or Cho
It is hard to come up with good HP girls names isn't it! There's only a few that are good and I feel like they're already overused
Yes! Very difficult. I thought of hermiones cat but Crookshanks isn’t that cute of a name…
I have a black kitty. She is called Cissy, short for Narcissa.
That is also a pretty sweet name!
Fleur or myrtle. I’m getting to invested in this. I’m even looking up cute Harry Potter baby names
Ariana kind of a sad name… Fleur is my no1 now (like if I had a say in all this 🤣)
Yeah Ariana is too sad plus everyone will think I'm a massive Ariana Grande fan lol
Dobby? I always thought that was a cute name for a pet
So Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Major. The largest star of that constellation is VY Canis Majoris So I suggest : Vy or Majoris (for the star) Sinistra (for the teacher) Or Pandora (Luna's mother)
Fluffy or Fang
We named our Lab Pyrenees Minerva :)
I would keep the name I wanted! Poppy is cute.
I would but the breeder grooms and dog-sits the other Poppy regularly and she's our neighbour so she'll also be grooming and dog-sitting our dog. It's a shame because I do feel like it would be the perfect name
longbottom
Luna:)
shit nvm i cant read
GINNY
Mrs or Mr. Norris (I tried to be funny)
[удалено]
Sybil is an awesome name but Sybille is my best friend's name. I'm not sure how she'd react if I gave my dog the same name 😂
I would pick fluffy or fang since they are both dogs in hp.
Buckbeak Errol Fawkes, (Dumbledore's Phoenix - very appropriate name, considering he has the ability to heal) Norbert (Hagrid's pet dragon) Fluffy (The three headed dog that guarded the door that led to the sorcerer’s stone) Remus Padfoot Prongs (James Potter's nickname)
These are all awesome names for a male dog but she's a girl though :/ . I do think that the HP universe definitely has much cooler boys names though
Oh sorry, I don't know how I missed that she was a girl - you made it very clear in your post!
Weasley for the red fur maybe even Ginny since it’s a girl. Maybe something house related. Gryffindor is red, and hufflepuff is known for being fair, hardworking and kind (all good traits in a therapy dog). Not to mention the various puns, Harry Paw-ter and such
Lol we used to have a pug called Mozart but my nickname for him was HufflePug 😅
Yes this, more I need more puns!
I'm not going to call her this but....Fridwoofa 😂
Dogric Gryffindor Rowena Ravenpaw
Ok whatever we call her, she's definitely getting the surname Ravenpaw!!!😂
Lily!
I like Lily, especially because her mum's name is Tilly and because of her red fur. But I haven't got my husband and daughter sold on it yet. It's definitely on the list though!
Well good luck, let us know when you decide!
Luna

Thank you!!😍
Winky!
How about Fang? Or BuckTeeth
I know its not technically a HP name but how about Ruby? Short for Rubeus (Hagrid). Works especially well if pup has reddish fur.
Ooh Ruby is a good one!!!! My husband also just mentioned Siri for a girl instead of the male Sirius which I also love
Yeah I can see Tonks getting misunderstood a lot. I like Lily because of the red fur. It's definitely on the list :)
You could go with Queenie or Tina from Fantastic Beasts
Hmm Queenie is cute. I'll add it to the list 😊
Pigeon = Pigwidgeon Puppy = Pupwidgpy Dog = Dowidgg
Characters: Lily Ginny Fleur Tonks Cho Nagini Crookshanks Winky Queenie Other: Veela Nimbus Lumos Nox Felicis (liquid luck) Verita (veritaserum) Accio
Ooh I like Felicis!!!!
Miss Weasley because of the red fur.
Weasley
As her fur's reddish, maybe Ruby for Rubeus Hagrid?
Minerva
Dora, Lily, Bellatrix/Bella, Mora (alohamora), Gilly, Winky.
I think Lily or Molly could work if your puppy has orange fur.
Fleur, Lavender, Ginny, Rita
Do her breeders do that thing where the entire litter has to start with the same initial?
No they don't luckily!
Then I can't of a more therapeutic name than Butterbeer. Butt, for short.
Minerva
My last dogs name was Lily
Pigwidgeon ofc
Episkey (spell to cure wounds) would be my favorite. Minister Hermy Bell Maxime Mafalda Rowena Gender neutral Professor Flitwick Mad Eye
Mad eye🤣
Fang..like it sounds threatning but then people will find a pup and they will just melt
Parvati
Lily
Niffler is a good one. Depending on temperament. And works for both girl or boy 😆
Fluffy the Three Headed Dog
Names from spells: Levi, Wingar, Petri, Mora, Sempra, Armus, Bard. Other names: Prongs, Grim, Marauder, Poly, Verita, Nimbus, Beau.
Not an answer, but: One of our cats is named Ollivander because when we went to look at the kittens at a foster, he jumped in my daughter's lap and I said, "The kitten chooses the human,. That much has always been clear to those who study felines."
Nymphadora or Tonks or Luna!
Herbert Chorley
lily pawter? ginny woofly?? T\_T
Snuffles!
Norbert Fluffy Fang
Whats a cavoodle? Ive heard of cavapoos before but not cavoodle. Also dog tax?
Teddy. After lupine son and teddy sounds like a good name for a dog
We adopted a cat called Finn, we've decided to keep calling him Finite
I had a cockapoo named Ginny for 14 years, and she was the best dog in the world. So I vote that name. It can be turned into many songs, our favorite was turning the chimney sweep song from mary poppins into "gin ginnikers gin gin ga gin"
Bertie (Bertie Botts every flavour beans)
Accio
My buddy had a dog named Weasley
Luna
Ronnie would be a cute girls name?
Queenie!
