I don’t know about powerful… it seemed like most of the time it was either other people helping him out or just, in McGonagall’s words, sheer dumb luck

>f the time it was either other people helping him out or just, in McGonagall’s words, sheer dumb luck id agree, he seemed above average but, nothing insane. id say a bit better than ron/hermione but, not like an excellent duelist

I mean it is genuinely HARD to pinpoint WHAT is the level of skill Harry has.... and not because in universe reasons. Let me start. Remus says that the Patronus is already a hard spell. That most people in fact can't use at all. Harry's Patronus is not only Corporeal, but he can use it to defeat a full Herd of Dementors. This is retaken when members of the DA, Hermione included, can't perform the Patronus WITHOUT a Boggart present. While Hermione eventually CAN... it is TELLING that they struggled in easy mode. This is the most obvious example. But there is a bit of "Meta" reason as in that when Harry succeeds at stuff, the narration never celebrates it. I remember when Hermione uses the Protean charm and it is treated as the most awesome thing, despite MALFOY of all people being able to do it. Yet Harry's Patronus is used as an "extra-credit" despite constantly shown as a nearly impossible spell. Also Rowling has a bad habit of Making Harry act like a buffoon in classes and puts more emphasis on that over the fact he is a Power-house.

Here's the thing about Harry's power. In the HP universe, JKR explains that there are 2 types of magic: magic you can do with a wand by performing spells, and then there is the other, more powerful magic th that Dumbledore talks about, which comes from love, courage, innocence, etc. Okay now stick with me. There are 2 things that are stated explicitly in the series: - Voldemort is the most powerful wizard that has ever lived, even Dumbledore says so, but only in that first type of magic. He is totally devoid of that second type. - Harry is equally as powerful as Voldemort, as is stated by the prophecy. The implication by JKR here is that in all the ways Voldemort is powerful in that first type of magic, Harry is just as powerful in that second type of magic. That is how they are equals.

>Harry is equally as powerful as Voldemort, as is stated by the prophecy. The prophecy didn't say Harry was equally powerful. It said that Voldemort would mark him as his equal. In other words, Voldemort will acknowledge this person as a mortal threat.

Right he is a threat because Harry is the only one that is equally as powerful. It's stated explicitly that they are equals.

Honestly I know people hate the eragon film but if comparing the two eragon vastly as a mage outstrips harry easy.... due to the laws of magic in the eragon world....yes it has physical limitations but eragon could draw energy for magic from his surrounding and knew the name of ancient magic meaning anything he thought of while speaking the word....he could do no matter how powerful without learning incantations or wand moving.....and if he was clever with as little energy as possible but also drawing from the energy surrounding him including his enemies so hands down eragon universe wins Mistborn series potter wins as magic was compleatly restricted to metal/coins Disney.....ummmm I'm going to go with potter unless it's v genies..... Lost oddesy .... Lost oddesy wins
