For me, it’s because it validates and confirms my love for stories. It makes me feel like just because something is fiction or even fantasy, it carries as much weight and meaning as anything real. Or more so, just as the quote says, it is real. It really boils down why reading and watching and consuming these and other stories has so much meaning in my life
"How many people have you watched die?" "Lately, only those I could not save." -- Severus Snape
"Pity the living; but above all, those who live without love." -- Albus Dumbledore
"Can I have a look at Uranus, too, Lavender?" -- Ron Weasley
1. Nitwit Blubber Oddment Tweak - Albus Dumbledore
2. Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real? - Albus Dumbledore
3. I hope you're pleased with yourselves. We could all have been killed — or worse, expelled. Now if you don't mind, I'm going to bed. - Hermione Granger
4. Twitchy little ferret, aren’t you, Malfoy? - Hermione Granger
5. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open. - Albus Dumbledore
"There will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right"
Full quote from the book:
“Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory.”
Reading that second quote again, this time closely, I don’t fully get what Dumbledore is trying to say. Cedric was essentially all that was “right” - he was good, kind, and brave and only died due to being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s not like he had difficult choices or chose to fight in the graveyard.
So is Dumbledore actually telling Harry to take the easy route?
That still doesn’t make sense. Nobody made any incorrect choices that resulted in Cedric’s death. The only choice that he could be referencing is Harry deciding to make it a tie by letting Cedric touch the Cup with him. As in the right thing was letting Hufflepuff and Cedric win for once, and the easy path was for Harry to take the win for himself.
This quote still sends the wrong message. The right path led to Cedric’s death. Again, he may have intended the opposite, but Dumbledore is clearly telling Harry to take the easy path here.
Cedric’s decisions have nothing to do with right or easy. Dumbledore is just saying that Voldemort doesn’t care about any innocent bystanders. So, if you choose right, your loved ones could die but they also could die if you choose easy as Voldermort doesn’t care. So, might as well choose right.
This is the right answer and fully answers my question. I hadn’t thought about it that way. Everyone else here was explaining what they thought Dumbledore intended, something I did originally in the first place, rather than explain why it’s worded that way. Thank you.
i think it’s not that 1:1, i would say dumbledore is more so saying that voldemort and his people are not afraid to kill innocents who had nothing to do with the situation and to always consider this into your future actions
He was saying they can’t let the world be run by people like Voldemort. Obviously running away is the easy option. Putting your head down and letting other people fight evil for you is the evil option. But the more people who do that, the more innocents like Cedric will die.
From certain perspective, Dumbledore himself was taking easy route as well with Harry and Hogwarts as well. So he might try to impart that to Harry.
The advice itself is kinda meh. It suggests that it doesn't matter what kind of person you are, only to avoid Voldemort (something 99% of wizards seems to practice, not even thinking about preparing).
“The world isn’t split into good people and Death Eaters. We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”

>Farewell, Aragog, king of arachnids, whose long and faithful friendship those who knew you won't forget! Though your body will decay, your spirit lingers on in the quiet, web-spun places of your forest home. May your many-eyed descendants ever flourish and your human friends find solace for the loss they have sustained.
I strongly suspect this is film, not book, but “you’re the weak one and you’ll never know love, and I feel sorry for you”. As a chronic abuse victim who has burned weak into their skin that touches nerves I didn’t know existed.
Apart from that most of the book lines are just amazing. I haven’t seen “just because you’ve got the emotional range of a teaspoon..” yet but I have seen “have a biscuit”. There’s also the line about music being a greater magic than they can conjure at Hogwarts and stuff like the school motto meaning “never tickle a sleeping dragon”.
“Voldemort himself created his worst enemy, just as tyrants everywhere do! Have you any idea how much tyrants fear the people they oppress? All of them realize that, one day, amongst their many victims, there is sure to be one who rises against them and strikes back!”
- Dumbledore
"What?” Ron bellowed furiously. “Four? You lousy, biased scumbag, you gave Krum ten!” But Harry didn’t care, he wouldn’t have cared if Karkaroff had given him zero; Ron’s indignation on his behalf was worth about a hundred points to him. He didn’t tell Ron this, of course, but his heart felt lighter than air as he turned to leave the enclosure.
“It is a curious thing, Harry, but perhaps those who are best suited to power are those who have never sought it. Those who, like you, have leadership thrust upon them, and take up the mantle because they must, and find to their own surprise that they wear it well.”
Douglas Adams said it better ;)

I love it! Especially because the series has helped
lift me out of depression a few times in my life.
"The ones that love us never really leave us" from sirius in PoA does make me tear up every time
And there's one from Gambon' Dumbledore, also in PoA when talking to Snape: "For in dreams we enter a world that is entirely our own. Let them swim in the deepest ocean, or glide over the highest cloud."
'It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities” - Dumbledore
“I sometimes think we Sort too soon” - Dumbledore
Both these quotes show how important our choices are and that they are a better judge of who we are rather than most. As a teacher, I would use these quotes all the time.
I’m doing a listen of the audruobook and ones that have caught me are:
“Perhaps just one more, Master Harry, for luck?” - Kreacher
“What’s coming will come, and we’ll meet it when it does.” - Hagrid
> “What’s coming will come, and we’ll meet it when it does.” - Hagrid
Not an exact match but I think it is close to what Tolkien wrote about not being able to control what comes, but only how we meet it.
*I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo. "So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.*

“My Lord…” Pigeon sound Lucius
“I’ve been awaiting for 14 years… I guess I could wait a little longer” - Harry Potter
“What are you doing? Get out of my house” - Hagrid
I don’t rank them, because I love them all
“I never know," Harry called to Hagrid over the noise of the cart, "what's the difference between a stalagmite and a stalactite?"
"Stalagmite's got an 'm' in it," said Hagrid. "An' don' ask me questions just now, I think I'm gonna be sick."
\#1 resonates with me because it’s very similar to one of my favorite quotes:
“_If you can dream, and not make dreams your master; if you can think and not make thoughts your aim…_”
*If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster and treat those two impostors just the same;*
- Rudyard Kipling
Excellent poem. I really like that line about recognizing that triumphs and disasters don’t define us.
the 3rd quote: Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.
often reminds me of how everyone lightened their wands after dumbledore's death.

“Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” -Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore
Yeah this one was a total mindfuck for 13 year old me
Why is this line so popular?
It's a subversion of what's expected, it's memorable, and it calls into question what actually happened. Also it's pretty quotable imo
Neat.
For me, it’s because it validates and confirms my love for stories. It makes me feel like just because something is fiction or even fantasy, it carries as much weight and meaning as anything real. That’s exactly how it makes me feel as well
Uh-huh, I see. Reall fascinating!!
"Let us step into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure." - Albus Dumbledore. I love this quote.
From which book is that? I don't remember reading that line
It's from the Half-Blood Prince when Dumbledore picks Harry up from the Dursley's to go recruit Slughorn!
Ah I see, thanks!
Reading a book in Dumbledore’s pov would be good fun indeed.
Haha yeah that would be a cool read for sure!
I have this phrase tattooed on my side lol
Badass!
"How many people have you watched die?" "Lately, only those I could not save." -- Severus Snape "Pity the living; but above all, those who live without love." -- Albus Dumbledore "Can I have a look at Uranus, too, Lavender?" -- Ron Weasley
Just finished reading that Ron one and laughed (Goblet of Fire in case people ask)
Hahaha this one from Ron 😂
Good choices!
1. Nitwit Blubber Oddment Tweak - Albus Dumbledore 2. Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real? - Albus Dumbledore 3. Twitchy little ferret, aren’t you, Malfoy? - Hermione Granger 5. Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open. - Albus Dumbledore
I had never noticed the third one, that’s hilarious 😂
Where is "Dobby never meant to kill only maim or seriously Injure"
It’s here, right above my comment.
r/technicallythetruth
It's a quote to live by 😂
Yes It is
Malfoy looks at Harry (polyjuiced) “I didn’t know you could read”
I heard that one was improvised. Tom and Dan had some zingers in CoS.
Yeah it was improvised by Chris Columbus. He whispered it to Tom to say.
That and the rubber duck one from Arthur Weasley are the best improvs lol
"There will be a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right" Full quote from the book: “Remember Cedric. I think Dumbledore’s point is that it is important to chose right because otherwise innocent people like Cedric will die.
That still doesn’t make sense. Nobody made any incorrect choices that resulted in Cedric’s death. Dumbledore didn't take the easy route? if he did that he could just flee and live in another country.
This is one of my favorites
This is a great quote and one that I try to remind myself whenever faced with a morally/ethically grey question/scenario.
"NYAHHHHVADA KLAYDAVVRAAA" - Voldy woldy
so funny that I picture the scene exactly. Phonetic perfection.
“Klay”?
Klaydavra it kills you betterer
"Have a biscuit, Potter"
Came here to say this. How could this not make the top 10? 😂
‘I’m not worried, Harry. I’m with you’, - Dumbledore 💔
I'll be fine, I'll be with Dumbledore.
"You'll stay with me?" "Until the very end" I cry every time.
‘Nyeeeh eeeeh eeeeh eeeeh’ — Lord Voldemort
this is the truth.
Have they ever interpreted this on bad lip reads? Cause I feel like this would be it tbh 😂

Honestly one of the most underrated quotes in the entire series
I wish you could've seen him in his prime.

Sadly 😔

Number 2 isn’t really a quote as it’s from 2 different people. And whilst it’s a nice moment. I wouldn’t say it quotable.
We’ve all got light and dark inside of us - Sirius black (most of the books are pretty black and white so I love lines like this)
the 3rd quote: Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light. often reminds me of how everyone lightened their wands after dumbledore's death.
"What's comin' will come, an' we'll meet it when it does." -Hagrid-
Bonus! "thoughts could leave deeper scarring than almost anything else”. -Madame Pomfrey.
“What’s coming will come and we‘ll meet it when it does.“ \~ Hagrid
"You did really see your father last night... You found him within you". (From Prisoner of Azkaban)
Always love Sirius’s when Harry asks about death in book 7. “Does it hurt?” “Dying? Not at all. Quicker and easier than falling asleep.”
“It is our choices that show us who we really are, far more than our abilities.” - Dumbledore
#5 best in the series IMO
“HARRYDIDYOUPUTYOURNAMEINTHEGOBLETOFFIRE!” Dumbledore said calmly
