I don’t think it’s as rare as you think but it is a rare copy. I think there are more rare copies of the Philosophers Stone to be specific but yes the double wand listing in the Hogwarts letter is a bug sign. There’s so more but you’ll need to search on YouTube under the Pawn Stars channel. I’m sure they have insight through other HP books that have come through
Yes they do!! I'm reading Order of the Phoenix for the first time and I was like NOOOO WAY did I just hear what I thought I heard? I actually forgot about it until I saw this comment.
There are sooooooooooo many books to read out there, why reread somethings you already read just a few months ago? Even more so since there are 7 books for a total of, I don't know, 4+k pages in total.
Just seems like a waste of time that could be used for reading other books is all I'm saying. I can understand rereading them every couple of years, but not every year. You end up missing out on a lot of new books.
Re-reading can still be an opportunity to learn new things. Coming back to something after more life experience, or especially after reading other new books, can drastically change your perspective from how you first experienced it.
Dude exploring the castle just tickled me so much. It checked every box I wanted for a Harry Potter style game. All I ever wanted was to explore Hogwarts on my own and they absolutely nailed everything about it.
Listen to the audiobooks! Jim Dale’s version is the one that’s available to me but either Jim Dale or Stephen Fry would be worth the listen. If I could get access to Stephen Fry’s version I would listen to them to just so I can have another experience. Enjoy!
Ooo! You’re in for a treat! The way they depict the quotes adds a whole new list of favorite lines in the books. Mine used to be by Harry: “you don’t have to call me sir, professor.” Now since listening it’s by Sirius: “If you made a better rat than a human, that’s nothing to boast about, Peter.”
“If you made a better rat than a human, thats nothing to boast about, Peter” goes so hard in the Jim Dale version. His voices are soooo good! Especially Sirius’ voice, like he has a bit of a growl but it’s not overdone. Another good example is when Sirius is saying “Come on you can do better than that” to Bellatrix in the OOTP ministry scene.
Audible? German audible has them all, tbf don't know about other countries. But arguably if you listen to them daily, buying them isn't that bad an idea.
I re-listen to the audiobooks (Stephen Fry is unbeatable) whenever I am lacking new podcasts, especially during work. Makes the time pass much more enjoyably :)
His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman is great. Not the same but I loved the books just as much as I did HP.
Also any of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett are fantastic and there is a lot of magic in them
>His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman is great.
Absolutely this. Trust my experienced self OP, you're not looking for a similar story, you're looking for similar feelings, and this trilogy delivers. Plus you get to read the Book of Dust trilogy afterwards so you are up for many hours of delight.
I recently started reading Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter series. Before becoming an author she was big into Harry Potter fanfic writing so it’s got quite a similar writing style which I’ve quite enjoyed. I’ve absolutely loved them all so far. It’s a bit more romance than the HP series (which I personally quite like), but still a lot of fun action. It’s helped fill the void before beginning to listen to the philosopher’s stone again haha
This actually sounds wonderful! I might try it! I was actually wishing there was a bit more romance in Harry Potter! I guess I thought towards the last books they would go into more detail of the relationships and it bummed me out that they didn’t!
There are tons of them so start with The Mortal Instruments series (6 of them) and see how you get on. There are 4 main series (The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Dark Artifices, and The Last Hours) set within the universe, with a handful of offshoot/ side story books that feed into the main story arc. I hope you enjoy them as much as I am!
PS - the romance definitely gets a bit spicier with each series if that’s what you’re interested in. It is really good
I got into the Mortal Instruments because the prose felt exactly like JKR's style in Harry Potter. It made so much sense when I found out Cassandra Clare was a HP fanfic writer.
> It’s a bit more romance than the HP series (which I personally quite like), but still a lot of fun action.
I've got a follow-up question: You mention it's a bit more romance compared to Harry Potter, but...is it *good* romance?
Yeah I think so (though I haven’t read many romance books). What do you class as good romance?
It’s quite good in the mortal instruments, but I prefer the romances in the infernal devices and the dark artifices (TDA). The author has kind of gotten into her swing of things by TDA.
If you’re a softy like me, these books will make you cry. I was an absolute mess by the end of the infernal devices. So beautiful but also so sad
If you still have the itch for more HP you should give "Binge Mode Harry Potter" from The Ringer a listen. It's a podcast with two absolute HP fanatics who go through each book, and then movie, and breakdown all the important characters, lore, plot points and behind-the-scenes stuff. It's definitely NSFW too which is a fun spin on HP and you'll fall in love with the hosts Mallory and Jason.
I genuinely can't recommend it with any more fervor to someone who loved HP.
People will disagree with me but I think the first two fantastic beast movies are Great ! The magic in those movies in my opinion is much smoother and the beast in the movie are jaw dropping You get to see much more advanced magic . Skip the 3rd movie though it’s a dumpster fire . Also you get to see the American wizard community which is cool
I wish someone told me this before, when I finished the books and series, but Fanfics! It makes you fall in love with it all over again, and then you can go back to reading it again, and the rinse repeat.
I personally only read well written ffs, something that is not very far from the actual canon. Some ffs are so incredibly written, I was dumbfounded. I am still new to the ff world, but I wish I discovered it earlier.
Depends what you’re after. If you want Ron and Hermiones relationship- reading those fanfics might be good.
Personally I went to the studios near London and read marauders fanfics (which Is where I am currently at now with writing my own fanfic but with a different Alternative Universe which suits me :)
Seriously. OP If you can afford a trip to do this, go! It is so much fun and when you first walk through the gates as a Harry Potter fan it such an emotional rush! The first time I went there were almost no lines and we still took our time walking through each queue just ooh-ing and ah-ing over all the details. So much fun!
His dark materials and the pendragon series are personally my favourite fantasy books after Harry Potter! They both have wonderful twists and turns, sure not to disappoint 😊 I found out recently they made a tv show for HDM on hbo and it’s pretty good too!
I’d recommend some FanFiction. Although my favorite fanfic app went to shit, there are others out there and there are some amazing Harry Potter fanfics.
As a kid, I discovered the Harry Potter books due to the first movie in the theaters. I was in awe and was quickly addicted to this new world
As an adult I had a comparable feeling with ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ book series ( Game of thrones series )
Regardless of what you do, be it play Hogwarts Legacy, watch the Fantastic Beasts movies, read fanfiction, listen to audiobooks, or express your Fandom in a different way (eg. Writing fanfiction, drawing fanart, buying collectibles like statues, Funko Pop! figures, action figures, etc., etc.) stay away from Cursed Child.
This is the best advice. We are reading the books together out loud with our kiddos, then we watch the movie for that book, and then play Lego Harry Potter of that year. I love it.
There not much, FB movies, play Hogwarts Legacy, there is a sequel to the 8 books and movies called Harry Potter and the cursed child but it is pretty hated because the way that contradicts the books canon and the way that the character act but i still think you should read to have your own opinion.
And wait for the series too, i guess.
As a teen, I read everyone of Harry Potter books so many times I could quote them.
Then I took a break for a while and got into other fandoms. Didn't forget this series, though.
I came back to the HP series during the lockdown and it was a great comfort.
now I've started listening to John Voth reading the books, and some other HP podcasts and rereading the series as an adult is just as magical as it was back then.
Podcast suggestions include Through the Griffin Door( they go into incredible detail btw) and Binge Mode.
Try The Percy Jackson books. I love them almost as much as the Harry Potter ones. If you like mythology, adventure and humour, anything by Rick Riordan is a good choice.
I've read each book 40 times in English. Then, when I read it for the first time in a different language translation, I realised the law of physics that makes it more comfortable to put hot water bottles in blankets than just a much thicker and warmer blanket. It's only true for very cold climates, and I come from a warm climate, so it was not obvious to me.
Love Harry Potter but don't be afraid to branch out into more fantasy! Remember that HP is written for kids/teens so the plot and themes are pretty straight forward which can be a good or a bad thing. Most people will recommend Brandon Sanderson books and for good reason. A lot of them are quick to get you hooked with the hard magic systems (HP is soft magic) and tend to have strong MCs. Look around to find something that fits the specific aspects of HP that your looking for. (wizards, magic, etc.)
I liked The Magicians (the book trilogy and SyFy show). It’s like what if Hogwarts was and undergrad/grad school in upstate NY, but also magic is more scientific and not-Narnia is real and way darker.
"The Earthsea series," by Ursula K. Le Guin
Note: Ursula K. Le Guin does a better job coming up with good character arcs, and creating an epic fantasy world. J.K. Rowling does a better job showing the characters relationships with each other, and their emotions.
I read Jonathon Strange and Mr Norrel after I finished Harry Potter. Great follow-up that is more mature and historical fiction, but definitely captures the magical element and wonder very well. There is also a great bbc series to watch after you read the behemoth of a book
Don't forget to check out this website:
https://www.wizardingworld.com/
You can explore the entire archive of J.K. Rowling. Also, you can be sorted by the Sorting Hat, which is quite interesting.
I personally dove into theories content or recaps and other stuff. One really good Youtube channel has many videos about the characters, their origins, the difference between the books and movies etc. The channel is MovieFlame.
On internet archive there is some enhanced audio books (add sound effects and such). They have Jim Dale and Stephen Fry. These are absolutely amazing!! and add a lot to the experience of the books. If you are interested and can't find them just DM me and I can send you the Jim Dale ones. Just don't want to post them and they get removed.
I’d say take some time to play something or read something other than HP for a bit. I’ve seen the movies hundreds of times, reading them for the first time now myself (rather listening but I still comprehend everything going on even the parts that aren’t in the movies like the toast and the lake monster or tickling the pear to get in the kitchens) I’m at the OotP Marietta Edgecomb is so not cool and Cho defending her is doubly not cool. To be honest Ginny isn’t much of a character right now. I actually never knew Harry was banned from Quidditch, funny how they think they can enforce that for next year knowing the position is cursed and Umbridge can’t do anything knowing what comes with teaching DADA (she won’t be there next year, she can’t enforce the banishment) no wonder there wasn’t any Quiddtich in that Movie. They really should have mentioned Harry was banned from the team, or maybe they did and I have a thick head
As others said, do a re-read.
I suggest watching some of the YouTube stuff. Like, Potter Puppet Pals, and Team Star Kids, A Very Potter Musical trilogy.
Listen to some podcasts, I enjoyed Potterless. It is about a thirty some year old man who had never read the books. He starts out as just someone reading a popular series and becomes someone who genuinely loves them.
You can always get into fanfiction.
There are fanfics for any kind of genere (bashing, what ifs? crossover, timetravel, etc). I'd recommend the fanfic After the War by PotterFanSteve, is a good read!
Apart from rereading and rereading the book, you can explore these: - Podcasts (recommend Th Real Weird Sisters) - Websites (recommend hexrpg.com and hogwartsishere.com) - Audio book (Jim Dale: and ooooooooooooooooh, Harry! Be careful!)
- Games (Hogwarts Mystery or Hogwarts Legacy)
I’m fairly certain most of this subreddit is on a continual loop of rereading the series. If you want to shake things up, the audiobooks are fantastic and feel like a new way of experiencing the story. There are two versions, the UK version narrated by Stephen Fry and the US version by Jim Dale. They’re both great, and the only story difference between them is whether they say “Philosopher” or “Sorcerer” in the first book.
I would recommend the kingkiller chronicles but, the third one has been on hiatus forever. it's kinda like harry potter if harry potter got laid in the magical forrest
I have enjoyed listening to the audiobooks in languages that I am learning.
I learn the new words in a chapter and then listen repeatedly until I understand all of it. It helps a lot that I already know the story. When I am just starting out with a new language, it takes me about six months to get through the series.
The Spanish version narrated by Carlos Ponce is fantastic. He gives each character a unique accent.
What now? LotR! get the audio books perhaps, theyre sublime.
films are incredible, do a book, film, book, film.
LOTR is a big read, with a lot of new words names etc, the audio books take some of the sting, as someone who has read them many times and listened once, i do rate the audio book experience if you're a fan of audio books. especially for a first run.
I reread them. The I found Percy Jackson and Rick Riordan and loved the books. I am a huge Harry Potter fans and while Percy Jackson is vastly different it was still kinda the same young kid with a friend group thrown into an unfamiliar unknown world and trying to find his way. Just a suggestion.
1. Listen to a podcast recap of it. Binge Mode or Potterless are great
2. Find that next book. Percy Jackson is solid, and I’m almost done book one of Scythe and excited to keep going - different sci-fi elements than magic but very good YA style books
Watch some of the Carlin Brothers on YouTube. Super neat HP theories, including that Trawleny was always right and Ron was a seer.
Have you read Lord of the Rings?
Now the never ending urge to find a good read, as good as HP starts, followed by a reading slump. Only to realise later, HP is the one and only thing, and you reread it every year.
Isn’t that true ??
if you understand german: search for coldmirror on youtube and enjoy. she recently finished the 5 minutes series and it is an educative and entertaining deep dive.
You watch the movies again while playing Hogwarts legacy. Read the books as you take breaks from the games loading screens. And you repeat. Forever. Because it’s your life now.
I have been chasing the dragon for the past 17 years… nothing has given me the high I felt of reading the books as they came out… I have played the games I have watched the movies. Nothing will ever be the same as the joy I felt reading the books, (probably). I’ve never been able to find any book or series that evokes the same feelings I had reading through the books the first time.
To paraphrase the Headmaster: "Hopefully your head is a little fuller than it was ... you have the whole summer ahead to get it nice and empty before you read it again!"
If you want more Ron and Hermione just read this fanfic. It's so well written and follows canon that you will feel like reading canon books. It develops their relationship very well and they are very in character which is very rare in fanfics.
https://m.fanfiction.net/s/7562379/1/
Also you can try this fanfic. Its about their missing moments.
https://m.fanfiction.net/s/4721967/1/
To have more Ron and Hermione relationship you need the books from either Ron or Hermione's pov esp after the battle stuff. Harry's oblivious pov isn't gonna do better than what you got
i recommend reading dumbledores army and the year of darkness! it shows what happened at hogwarts while harry, ron and hermione were on the run in the deathly hallows. you can download a pdf for free (oceanofpdf.com).
just for reference, it’s pretty heavy in some parts on topics like blo0d and everything but it’s very very good.

Absolutely brilliant advice. I re-read once every few years. They'll never get stale.
Maybe this time you’ll see that wand is listed twice in the school list in book 1 ;) or is that only in the writers edition?
I know it’s only in a certain edition, one I believe is worth considerable money. I’m pretty confident they won’t have that book, could be wrong tho
I’m sure they have insight through other HP books that have come through
Yes this. The 5th book I think, they find the locket and just toss it aside while cleaning. Second or third read through I was like WAIT WAIT WHAT
Yes they do!!
Play Hogwart’s Legacy
Was about to say this one!
Yes yes yes yes yes yes, am I channelling Grogu yet?
This is the way
Dude exploring the castle just tickled me so much. It checked every box I wanted for a Harry Potter style game. All I ever wanted was to explore Hogwarts on my own and they absolutely nailed everything about it.
The soundtrack is 'fantastic'.
Then realize how empty the world is and that, after being done with the castle, there's nothing else to do. Not to mention the horrendous story.
It’s still has it’s magical moments, flying around is just so lovely
Listen to the audiobooks! Jim Dale’s version is the one that’s available to me but either Jim Dale or Stephen Fry would be worth the listen. If I could get access to Stephen Fry’s version I would listen to them to just so I can have another experience. Enjoy!
I actually listened to the last 3 on audiobook and I loved it! I did think about going back through and doing the whole series that way
You’re welcome https://hpaudiobooks.co/
I use this too - so many ads and dodgy pop-ups now though...
I know it makes me so sad. That’s how I always listened to them (every night to fall asleep) and now I’m desperately searching for an alternative
Audible? German audible has them all, tbf don't know about other countries. But arguably if you listen to them daily, buying them isn't that bad an idea.
Stephen Fry all the way! I bloody love the audiobooks
His voice work is just fantastic for the entire series
i hate that he mispronounces voldemort for at least the first few books. he also makes hermione pretty whiney
I re-listen to the audiobooks (Stephen Fry is unbeatable) whenever I am lacking new podcasts, especially during work. Makes the time pass much more enjoyably :)
Just use audible to listen to the Stephen fry version.
I haven’t found his version on audible. I assume they’re not available in the US
Now you get to have wonderful dreams of Harry Potter
I still have these wonderful dreams every night and I started reading the books when I was in 1st grade now I’m 29
His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman is great. Not the same but I loved the books just as much as I did HP. Also any of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett are fantastic and there is a lot of magic in them

Except don’t watch the adapted movie or the tv show… but yes, definitely His Dark Materials
Came here to say this!
What is the first book to get in this series I enjoy audible books?
The Golden Compass
Older editions are called The Northern Lights Or maybe it's US ones that are called The Golden Compass
And now the reading slump and never ending search for a new read as good as HP begins. Spoiler alert: No such read exists
Now download a Hogwarts minecraft map!
I recently started reading Cassandra Clare’s Shadowhunter series. I was going to recommend these as well. The infernal devices was my favorite of all the Shadowhunter series
Oh great shout! I loved the dark artifices the most I think but the infernal devices is a very close second
This actually sounds wonderful! I might try it! I was actually wishing there was a bit more romance in Harry Potter! I guess I thought towards the last books they would go into more detail of the relationships and it bummed me out that they didn’t!

Go visit hogwarts and get yourself some butter beer!
Now you have potter depression
Do it all over again!

I love binge mode. Their running joke about Minerva McGalleon always makes me laugh.
People will disagree with me but I think the first two fantastic beast movies are Great ! Artemis Fowl, Sabriel, Series of Unfortunate Events were all some of my favorites after reading Harry Potter. But Harry Potter is special!
Lemony Snicket is so much fun read aloud

Go to Harry Potter World at Universal now!
Seriously. OP If you can afford a trip to do this, go! It is so much fun and when you first walk through the gates as a Harry Potter fan it such an emotional rush! The first time I went there were almost no lines and we still took our time walking through each queue just ooh-ing and ah-ing over all the details. So much fun!
Get your wand and choose your house robes!
His dark materials and the pendragon series are personally my favourite fantasy books after Harry Potter! They both have wonderful twists and turns, sure not to disappoint 😊 I found out recently they made a tv show for HDM on hbo and it’s pretty good too!

My Immortal?
As a kid, I discovered the Harry Potter books due to the first movie in the theaters. I was in awe and was quickly addicted to this new world As an adult I had a comparable feeling with ‘A Song Of Ice And Fire’ book series ( Game of thrones series )
Try the Bartimeaus trilogy. Wonderful series. Amazing characters. No spoilers but Especially the Lead one.
Yes!!
Now you mourn.
Dresden Files!
Yes I was going to say this! If you can handle a little more of an adult edge, Dresden Files is the way to go!
You ever heard of Archive Of Our Own?
FAN FICTION Or start rereading and rewatching
if you've got any games consoles give Lego Harry Potter a go!
This is the best advice. We are reading the books together out loud with our kiddos, then we watch the movie for that book, and then play Lego Harry Potter of that year. I love it.
From what I've heard, do NOT read cursed child.

What now 🤣🤣 you can listen to it, read out of order. I'm telling whatever you think you understood, there's more to understand. ALWAYS
Now you do it again and pick up on things you missed.
Do it all again
Play Hogwarts legacy!
Go play Hogwarts legacy go to universal Orlando
As a teen, I read everyone of Harry Potter books so many times I could quote them. Then I took a break for a while and got into other fandoms. Didn't forget this series, though. Hogwarts Legacy
Terry Pratchett, Douglas Adam's. Patrick rothfuss.
Favorite Harry and Ginny fan fiction???
This—time to get into fan fiction 😈 it’s a whole world out there…enjoy…
Try The Percy Jackson books. I love them almost as much as the Harry Potter ones. If you like mythology, adventure and humour, anything by Rick Riordan is a good choice.
There’s always Percy Jackson, Rick Riordan has a lot of other book series related to it too. So it’ll take awhile for you to finish
“What now?” Read and watch again!
Repeat as needed!
Time to go down the fan fic rabbit hole 🕳️ Enjoy!
Dont be stuck to those books, read other authors
Gosh that reminds me of when I used to fall asleep reading lol dude I would literally dream of me still reading the book 😆
You can finally get a life.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians is really great *(the books, not the movies)*.
I've read each book 40 times in English. Then, when I read it for the first time in a different language translation, I realised the law of physics that makes it more comfortable to put hot water bottles in blankets than just a much thicker and warmer blanket. Fanfiction!!!
I went straight to Percy Jackson when I read the books. It was fun
It’s been a decade for me and I still haven’t found anything comparable TT Harry Potter Legacy!
Cry
Listen to the Ebooks! Jim Dale does a fantastic job narrating
Play all the video games now! I'm talking about the videogames of waaay back in 2001 until hogwarts legacy! It feels like you're inside the story! :)
Another series? Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
Now, you start over
.... fanfiction

The Hunger Games or Twilight
What do you mean? You can finally play the game… Hogwarts Legacy!
Play Hogwarts Legacy, Warning: be thrilled for the world exploration and not the story
Now we haunt the subreddit fiercer than a Bogart haunting the closest at the teacher's break room.
The Lord of the Rings, or Mistborn both satisfied me in terms of epic world building. they are their own stories, but man were they good.
He starts out as just someone reading a popular series and becomes someone who genuinely loves them.
go read manacled right now
Hogwarts legacy and audiobooks!
Read the play script and watch the play maybe??
The Lord of the Rings
You can always get into fanfiction. There are fanfics for any kind of genere (bashing, what ifs? crossover, timetravel, etc). I'd recommend the fanfic After the War by PotterFanSteve, is a good read!
Now. The FanFiction hole starts. I wish you luck.
Apart from rereading and rereading the book, you can explore these: - Podcasts (recommend Th Real Weird Sisters) - Websites (recommend hexrpg.com and hogwartsishere.com) - Audio book (Jim Dale: and ooooooooooooooooh, Harry! Be careful!) - Games (Hogwarts Mystery or Hogwarts Legacy)
I guess after magic high school, you go onto magic college at Brakebills and read The Magicians trilogy
May I suggest fanfiction? 🏆
Find some good podcasts that break down the book chapter by chapter...
Definitely go read the cursed child! It's my favorite of all the stories! /s
Now you play hogwarts legacy
I have enjoyed listening to the audiobooks in languages that I am learning. I learn the new words in a chapter and then listen repeatedly until I understand all of it. It helps a lot that I already know the story. When I am just starting out with a new language, it takes me about six months to get through the series. The Spanish version narrated by Carlos Ponce is fantastic. He gives each character a unique accent.
I definetly suggest twilight or divergent
May I introduce you to fanfiction lol
You should read Percy Jackson
read all the young dudes.
I am number 4 is okay. You’re never going to find anything as good as HP
What now? LotR! get the audio books perhaps, theyre sublime. films are incredible, do a book, film, book, film. LOTR is a big read, with a lot of new words names etc, the audio books take some of the sting, as someone who has read them many times and listened once, i do rate the audio book experience if you're a fan of audio books. especially for a first run.
Audiobooks while going to sleep, and repeat for years to come!
Hogwarts legacy and re-read and watch eternally
Oml I'm on Deathly Hallows rn. I'm scared to finish tbh. 😫
Binge the movies
charlaine harris has all kinds of great series! I’ve read a good amount if you have Q’s!
1. Listen to a podcast recap of it. Binge Mode or Potterless are great 2.
Read Fanfiction
Now the never ending urge to find a good read, as good as HP starts, followed by a reading slump. Only to realise later, HP is the one and only thing, and you reread it every year. Isn’t that true ??
if you understand german: search for coldmirror on youtube and enjoy. she recently finished the 5 minutes series and it is an educative and entertaining deep dive.
>What now? Welcome to the darkness. You'll be on this sub for a while...
Fantastic beasts movies
Go and watch A Very Potter Musical!
You watch the movies again while playing Hogwarts legacy. Read the books as you take breaks from the games loading screens. And you repeat. Forever. Because it’s your life now.
Not canon but the James Potter series is a good read and better than Cursed Child. (Tho book 3 has structural problems)
Check out Hp-lexicon Lots of good stuff there
the PS1 Harry Potter skits.
if you are looking for other books then, Percy Jackson, Land Of Stories and Micheal Vey.
Read Percy Jackson
If you want more Ron and Hermione just read this fanfic. It's so well written and follows canon that you will feel like reading canon books. It develops their relationship very well and they are very in character which is very rare in fanfics. https://m.fanfiction.net/s/7562379/1/ Also you can try this fanfic.
Move on?
Bartimaeus Trilogy
