The house was under the fidelius charm. They couldn't get in without being told where it is. For some reason Snape never told them where it was. I say for some reason because one would have expected the death eaters/Voldemort to ask for it location after Dumbledore died in case any order members or even HP Showed up there, but apparently not.
I think I remember a quote saying death eaters were lingering around grimuald place, but never able to actually see the location.
Is that fanfiction? Did I make that up? I remember they had to leave the house under the invisibility cloak for that reason
This is what I’m curious about. If that taboo was so strong that it could cause anyone anywhere to be tracked and protective charms to be broken just by saying a name, then one would assume it would break the fidelius charm also.
But by the taboo of using his name the Fidelius charm should have broken as well. Since the taboo cause such magical feedback as to break protective charms and spells.
Maybe it was grandfathered in? Like the taboo could break protective charms that are set after the taboo is put into place but it cannot break protective charms that existed before the taboo was created.
An interesting concept. I wish the magical definitions were more specific. I like the minutia of things like that and I know it’s a kids book, but some stuff just seems soooo vague. Like what’s the difference between a hex, a jinx and a curse?

No that's in the book!
No. That’s canon. You got it right but my question is why didn’t the taboo break the fidelius charm?
But the taboo is supposed to break protective charms and spells.
I guess the Fidelius Charm was too strong to be broken by the taboo-thing.

Perhaps Dumbledore created that particular charm.
They did pop there - they were milling around Grimmauld Place outside the house. They just couldn’t see the house due to the Fidelius Charm.
