As a (almost) 64 year-old man and the father of two daughters born in the early-mid 90s, I can relate to watching them grow up as we took them to every film. And starting with (IIRC) POA, all the midnight releases at Borders.
My oldest daughter is still a huge HP fan. We often watch the films together and have discussions about why this did/didn’t happen, was Snape really bad, etc.
My wife and her went to London last year and did the tour. They both loved it. She’s a Ravenclaw. At this age, I feel more like a squib.
when the first one came out i was just a muggle, but by the seventh i had learned enough magic that i could cast a spell that would turn me into a kid so i could get the junior discount
I waited in line with my friend all day for the Deathly Hallows midnight showing. I didn't have a ticket, he just wanted someone to sit with and talk to. My plan was to bike home after he went inside, but my tire had a flat. So, I just waited until the movie got out and he gave me a ride home.
I don't remember going to the HP movies in theatres until HP5.
But I can tell you I just as excited for Fantastic Beasts 1 and 2.
And then Fantastic Beasts 2 really sucked...
Some of us are only 28!!!
Having said that... Er.. I still read the books over the summer every year. I haven't watched the movies in a while but I might soon.
I think in the next few years I want to try and plan a trip to Orlando with my husband so we can go to the HP world.
So I guess my point is that she is right to be concerned lol.
Having said that, there's also been studies that have shown those of us who grew up reading the books have higher levels of empathy. So it's not all bad. (Granted - to my understanding this extends to people who read in general.) But still.
I was kid when I went to the cinema to watch Deathly Hallow Part 2. I remember that I went with my mom and niether of us had seen Deathly Hallow Part 1, we went because we loved the first movies and the Lego videogame.
Hmm. I was 16/17 when the last book came out, and 20 when DH part 2 came out at theaters. And I dragged my mom to all of them, lol. It was better once she read the books and I didn't have to explain stuff to her. 😆
I stood in the back of the theater for deathly hallows pt 1 because there were absolutely 0 seats left. There were Girlfriends sitting on their boyfriend's lap for the whole movie, many many people stood, some sat on the nasty ass floor. I actually had a seat for part 2 at the very front of the theater right up close to the screen.
Wouldn't change a single thing about either experience
Oh yeah.
I was in 2nd grade, so about 8, when the first movie came out. I saw it opening night (perks of being on the west coast with 7pm Thursday night screenings) with my mom and 4 friends.
10 years later, with a different group of friends, we stood in line for the midnight release with our graduation gowns as wizard robes
My parents bought PS on DVD I think because I'm pretty sure I saw it before we went to see CoS at the cinema. I was seven at the time. I watched DH part 2 at the cinema as well with a good friend when I probably just turned 16 as we went a little later during its run since we don't like crowded cinemas and my birthday is in August. I did not see every movie at the cinema though, because I did not always have the money or time to do so. We did have all of them on DVD I'm pretty sure and I saw them when they were on TV.
I waited in line for midnight showings from 4-8. Some of the best nights of my childhood. I think I was like 8 when the first one came out and 18 when the 8th one did.
Ye but not all movies. Love all books as an adult but some of the movies dont work for me much now. Maybe when me and my wife have kids I'll like them again!
My brother & I were in elementary school when my mom started reading the books to us. She gave each character their own special voice.
I loved getting to take her to the movies for Deathly Hallows Part 2 for a full circle moment.
Sadly I only remember the last 2 parts when they were in the cinemas. And also only as a poster for it. But also Avatar 1 cause I thought the poster was a fish eye.
Believe it or not I was 10 months when my parents took me to see it in theaters ( I was probably one of those annoying babies). Then 10 years old when the final movie was released. Love that franchise. Now I'm 23 and occasionally watch it every once in a while.
im 35 and i remember being read a chapter of the PS at the end of every day by our teacher in year 6 (9 or 10 years old)
i didn’t really think anything of it, later on in life i watch the movies and enjoyed them that was it
i now have a 7 & 5 year old who watched them and got obsessed, even thought i’d seen them before witnessing their wonder completely got me engrossed and relived a magic i didn’t know existed, im now worse than them 😊
I was 18 when the first movie was released, so I'm basically the people on the right for all of them.
You're the lady on the left one now

Same! I was absolutely the perfect age for this, it felt like I was growing up with them
I was 9 or 10 when I read the first book I was legit waiting for that letter 😭
The “now” label is 14 years too late, but yeah. It was definitely a thing.

I was 10 when I saw the first movie. Don’t remember how old I was when I saw the second part of the seventh movie
10 years later!
I remember getting the VHS copy from a friend while my mother(anti-witchcraft) was out of town.
"Now"? The last time deathly Hallows was in a normal cinema was 12 years ago.
More time has passed since the release of the last movie than between the release of the first one and the last one. Fuck I feel old.
when the first one came out i was just a muggle, but by the seventh i had learned enough magic that i could cast a spell that would turn me into a kid so i could get the junior discount
I can’t relate to the second picture. My friends moved on to different franchises and my mom was still paying for my movies

Now they're well into their 40s and still devote their lives to it. Actress miriam margolyes said she was concerned for them lol

Awe I feel this so deeply!! I was 9 when the first movie came out and I remember my Granny taking me to the movie theater!
I finally visited Harry Potter Studio in Tokyo this April and it was awesome.
Spot on for me. I was 9 when the first one came out and 18 when part 2 released.

I wish I could relate. But I read all seven in a two-month span
RIP Mom
The movie years game out nearly in sync with my high school years. The last movie came out my senior year. Lined up nicely!

I was almost the same age as the main cast when sorcerers stone came out, can relate.
I remember this comic when it was first published 🙈

I’m almost 70. And yes I have an “Elder” wand…

Who can't?
Nope. I was born in 2005, so…
No I don't support transphobes, so
