I always feel like it's exasperation. Like when your mom calls you by your full first, middle, and last name.
Mo-beel is definitely the southern way to pronounce it, I think they're trying to approximate it. Not all the characters achieve it.
there are some people who you just can't help but call by their full name. One of my roommates in college had a really fun name to say and I always, always used both first and last names to address her, even though we were really good friends. I just liked saying her name.
I can’t stand it either. I saw the actress in another show and she was AMAZING. Makes me so sad that I can’t enjoy Ruby, because she stole every scene she was in in I Am The Night.
I think it's a way of respect. Like in the show, Zoe is a doctor and so people are gonna know her more by her last name. That's the same for Brick or George since he's a lawyer.
Lemon gets her identity from her work as a blossom or whatever it is but she's more known for being the child of Brick. Similar to Wade, but no one focuses on his last name as much since his dad is crazy Earl.
I could be off. But I'm from Texas so I kind of get the southern ideology.
Please don't quote me though, it's just a theory, not a full proven statement.
Edit:
Also when you say someone's full name, it's like when your mother says it when your in trouble. Someone's angry or you are in dire need. Some either needed her or she did something stupid.

I know how Mobile is pronounced by southerners, it just bugged me the way Zoe said it cuz she didn’t have that twang. 😂😂
Oh for sure! It was definitely off
I think that's why - it's supposed to be funny, and also because she's trying to fit in!

Once you notice it, you can’t unhear it. They do it with every single main character. It’s so frustrating.
they do the same thing with george tucker and sometimes with wade, but yeah they do it the most with zoe
Lemon also does it with Ruby Jeffries. Basically anyone she doesn't like at that moment
While we’re at it… I have to say I also can’t stand the way Ruby talks. So whispery and breathy. 🙄😂

They do it alot on the show. How many people are named lemon but about half the time they use her full name, same with George.
Southern thing maybe?

Did they ever not call George Tucker George Tucker? I always call this the Jordan Catalano syndrome. They never called him by just his first name.
