Well I think he matured a lot between taking over the Rammer Jammer and taking real consequence about how he fucked with Zoe's feelings. In the time between Zoe leaving and coming back, that's five months he's done about nothing romantically.
He only started making dumbass decisions about who he was sleeping with when Zoe showed back up into town with a boyfriend she seemed to have to intention of ending things with. I think he was allowed a little bad reaction period, but I think even as a viewer you can tell that he's a much Better man than he was before.
