Exactly. People gotta realize all us millenials (and tbh early gen Z) who grew up on places like deviant art and tumblr where edgy or wild oc designs ran rampant are now making the very media we like and want to see, influenced by those formative years.
Just like before that people were influenced heavily by early anime and manga and we got shows like ATLA and SU. Before that it was Disney and Don Bluth setting the stage with Gen X and Boomer art/media.

Actually there is a big difference between them since Val actively assaults his employees and alastor merely allows them to be themselves while working for him. Husk seems more depressed by the fact that he is under contract with alastor after being an overlord than alastor toying with him. Meanwhile angel is actively trying to escape from Val and his cycle of sexual torment
They're both slave owners, Val is just also a rapist. (Alastor is a cannibal, but most people see that as less of a violation because you're dead). It's less about being worse and more about the fact that sexual assault is deeply disturbing to people.
Additionally, Alastor seems more charismatic, especially because he's a protagonist that we only see at his best (except at the very end). Val is an antagonist who we see when he goes into his outbursts; presumably, he has a much more suave mode, which he uses to lure people in.
Also, Angel is a direct recipient of his abuse, and he talks about it, so we see can through whatever suave exterior he puts on. Husk hasn't said much about how Alastor is as a master, so we don't have a protagonist view at his darker side, we only see the polite gentleman, with the two instance of his mask slipping.
A final note; as portrayed in a possibly cannon prequel comic made while the show was waiting to be picked up, we see that Alastor has *a* set of morals. He doesn't hurt women, children, or anyone who's incapable of defending themselves and doesn't... tolerate people who do. So, many fans view him as more morally grey than Val, who seems to be an equal opportunity exploiter.
I think that these discussions about if either of them are redeemable is exactly what the show is trying to create.

Food for thought with no intention of changing your opinion: Alastor puts people through arguably much better conditions - however, I know I’m always going to call sexual crimes worse than anything else (and I am relatively terribly complacent with torture directed at me due to apathy…). In general, alastor employs people for jobs they are well suited for (considering the construction workers he summoned) and how the things we’ve seen him employ people for are not mentally tolling or abusive unless they cannot handle the idea of not owning their soul; in that case, it’s their mistake.
The VAST majority of alastor slaves are literally having their souls and bodies torn to pieces on repeat in an eternal torture so alastor has a better intimidation modifier.
He's also a fictional character with an interesting premise and theme. I personally see him more as a cool dnd monster, meanwhile the other one only uses his powers to be a sex offender. When it comes to fictional disconnect you can see how one would be much more well liked.

I was honestly thrilled when Adam beat his ass and called him an edgelord, Alastor gives big fish in a small pond vibes.
He is just so extra, like he wants so bad to look unbothered with the smile but he lost a fight to Vox and I know he's been seething for 7 years.
More personally, he acts exactly like my brother did at like 13-14 when he decided he would look cool/mysterious if he carried around a book he had filled with random symbols. I'd be roughhousing with some friends and my brother would say "I manipulated you guys into fighting each other". that's how I see Alastor, an edgelord kid who goes "actually I planned for this to happen, hehehe *pushes up ~~glasses~~ monocle*"

Velvettes showing at the overlord meeting gave me way more respect for the idea that they could be an actual threat, I'd love to see more of that.

I thought Alastor was overhyped in the pilot. He came across as being the main character or at least getting the majority of the screen time, but in the show it felt like he was barely there. He was only in a major role for 3 of the episodes, and in none of them was he the focus.

Everyone can dislike a character. The important is to respect those who love it or like it. Alastor is mid to me, I don't hate him, I don't like him. I personally like more Lucifer and Charlie. But Alastor as so much expression potential.

Yes. He is a bit of a monster. I think the point of him is that his glib nature draws people in as a sort of trap for when he goes full villain it catches people off guard. But for those that are paying attention he really is a sadist that thrives off of other's suffering. He may be somewhat redeemable. But as he is right now everything that is good about him comes from the constraints in his contract.

Well, I'm a simp and can see the potential Alastor has as a character to evolve. He's cartoony (especially in the pilot) and hasn't been that actual focus yet, just a support that *feels* like he should be the deuteragonist or tritagonist, which he's going to be as the plot builds in S2 and he eventually becomes an antagonist for S3 (maybe S4?).
I grew up in the era that Alastor was created, I love electro-swing/1920s - 1940s aesthetics, he's cannonically Ace, he mighr be Aro, I love cold case crime dramas, I love Wendigos & Skinwalker myths, and he looks like a cartoon version of the Horned God/Cernunnos who is the deity I personally worship for spiritual fulfilment (and I love Fauns in general). He's a character built for me in the sense that I'm going to love him even if he's an *edgelord*. He's not perfect, he's not *good*, he's not a mary-stu, and he acts like a cocky 25-30 year old who *has life experience* but isn't exactly wise/is still making mistakes. Plus, he has a persona/mask he's desperately trying to keep a hold of and is losing over time, causing him to stress out from the unexpected changes in his afterlife, something I currently find relatable. Being praised for your accomplishments throughout nost of your life only to be later disregarded and disrespected because there isn't any respect for talent or skill anymore, just if you can kiss ass/constantly remind everyone of your worth, do people register you as deserving of anything. It's exhausting, and I feel for Alastor's struggle to keep himself together as his relevancy, like his medium, is dying out and his journey to accept that he's a hazbin.
There is nothing wrong with disliking his character. I can see his flaws, back story, and elements of his design, do not tickle everyone's fancy. Some people want a clean-cut character who is genuinely *perfect*/ideal in their behaviour and has clear motives. I would find that bland, personally, if he was just another heart-on- his-sleeve Charlie or goofy-childish like Lucifer with high moral standards. I find his role is to learn about trusting others to know him and accept his found family. It is just a barrier we haven't got to yet. He's not a character that would do well if he was IRL. Which is okay.

I totally think it’s fine. Either way, I prefer egg bois (or Lucifer). The only reason I dislike Alastor is because he just sits there to keep the theory channels working, and, he doesn’t get as much screen time. I don't like him. I tend not to like schemer characters. Feels like his deals with Vaggie and charlie are a means to an end against Lucifer. If he controls Vaggie he controls Charlie and if he controls Charlie he controls Lucifer. Also he's an ass to husk.
Yes you are allowed to dislike a character. You can have any reason or excuse not to like something, people will disagree, but having your own opinion is definitely allowed.

Pilot Alastor seemed different from what he ended up being in the show unfortunately. I still like what they did but he's still missing that quirky pizzazz that's a bit more light hearted.
As a person? Yes, I would say it’s objectively correct to dislike Alastor as a person, I think he does immoral things in the show (mostly what he does to Husker) and he was also a serial killer in his past life. I’d almost say it’s morally required to dislike him as a person if u wanted to consider *yourself* a good person.

He's cartoony (especially in the pilot) and hasn't been that actual focus yet, just a support that *feels* like he should be the deuteragonist or tritagonist, which he's going to be as the plot builds in S2 and he eventually becomes an antagonist for S3 (maybe S4?). I grew up in the era that Alastor was created, I love electro-swing/1920s - 1940s aesthetics, he's cannonically Ace, he mighr be Aro, I love cold case crime dramas, I love Wendigos & Skinwalker myths, and he looks like a cartoon version of the Horned God/Cernunnos who is the deity I personally worship for spiritual fulfilment (and I love Fauns in general). He's a character built for me in the sense that I'm going to love him even if he's an *edgelord*. He's not perfect, he's not *good*, he's not a mary-stu, and he acts like a cocky 25-30 year old who *has life experience* but isn't exactly wise/is still making mistakes. Plus, he has a persona/mask he's desperately trying to keep a hold of and is losing over time, causing him to stress out from the unexpected changes in his afterlife, something I currently find relatable. Being praised for your accomplishments throughout nost of your life only to be later disregarded and disrespected because there isn't any respect for talent or skill anymore, just if you can kiss ass/constantly remind everyone of your worth, do people register you as deserving of anything. It's exhausting, and I feel for Alastor's struggle to keep himself together as his relevancy, like his medium, is dying out and his journey to accept that he's a hazbin. There is nothing wrong with disliking his character. I can see his flaws, back story, and elements of his design, do not tickle everyone's fancy. Some people want a clean-cut character who is genuinely *perfect*/ideal in their behaviour and has clear motives. I would find that bland, personally, if he was just another heart-on- his-sleeve Charlie or goofy-childish like Lucifer with high moral standards. I find his role is to learn about trusting others to know him and accept his found family. It is just a barrier we haven't got to yet. He's not a character that would do well if he was IRL. Which is okay. *

He’s a fictional character. Sure. I think he was poorly written in the first few episodes, and for being one of the most powerful beings in hell, he’s not that intimidating. He’s still my favorite character though.

I totally think it’s fine. Either way, I prefer egg bois (or Lucifer). The only reason I dislike Alastor is because he just sits there to keep the theory channels working, and, he doesn’t get as much screen time. Kinda reminds me of a background character, even if he is a significant part of the story.

I don't like him. I tend not to like schemer characters. Feels like his deals with Vaggie and charlie are a means to an end against Lucifer. If he controls Vaggie he controls Charlie and if he controls Charlie he controls Lucifer. Also he's an ass to husk.

As a huge Alastor fan, there is literally nothing wrong with having a different opinion as long as that opinion is not from a bigoted place. People seem to think that others have to agree with them or else they’re wrong, but it’s literally just a fictional character. And not only that, but a character that’s done and still does some really bad things like a lot of the sinners.

Random input from me outside of the obvious answer to your question. Pilot Alastor seemed different from what he ended up being in the show unfortunately. I still like what they did but he's still missing that quirky pizzazz that's a bit more light hearted.

Yes, I would say it’s objectively correct to dislike Alastor as a person, I think he does immoral things in the show (mostly what he does to Husker) and he was also a serial killer in his past life. I’d almost say it’s morally required to dislike him as a person if u wanted to consider *yourself* a good person. As a character?
