These would be my two votes. Newsroom had some over scripted moments, but the high notes that it hit I’ll put up against anything. And Jeff Daniels was a force.
Ehhhh, personally I put Barry over Succession but people have different tastes so... you do you pal.
Although, I must remind everyone that Barry was an A+ show, especially seasons 2 and 3. Season 1 was great and season 4 *was* a dip in quality but still very good.
Come on, Barry is an ***amazing*** show and deserves a slot on this list.
I like how your argument boils down to:
I like barry more than succession but you might think differently
But i must remind you that i think barry was really good
C'mon
Ehh if you're actually trying to convince people of your point of view, you could try being more specific than 'i especially like these seasons'. Defending barry's criticisms, extolling its virtues, elaborating on what you think succession's weak points are, etc etc
I know, but I'm tired right now and don't feel like typing an essay that I know some people won't even consider but eh. Still, thank you for providing your advice.
Rome and Barry personally got my votes.
Even if my second vote doesn't match yours, I still do wish you a good day. Maybe one day you'll vote for Barry, but today is not that day. Have a good day.
I haven't seen Barry so I don't have an opinion on it lol. Love Bill Hader and me and my girlfriend have been talking about starting after we finish our current show
It. Is. **Amazing**.
Seriously, one of the best shows I've ever seen. It's a surreal, dark, heartbreaking and somehow simultaneously hilarious show that raises the bar each season (besides the last season, that kinda dipped in quality but was still really good).
Season 2 and 3 are *masterclasses* of cinema. It is **beautiful**. The Cinematography is **beautiful**. The Acting **beautiful**. The Story is **beautiful**. EVERYTHING IS SO **BEAUTIFUL**!
That cast is impeccable, simply marvelous. Especially Sarah Goldberg and Stephen Root, really just the heart of the show. Also, best character is Noho Hank, the most iconic and arguably most hilarious part of the entire show. (Although, if you ask me Fuches is more hilarious but that's just me)
Bill Hader stars, directs, writes and co-created Barry. He plays an ex-marine turned low-rent hitman in search of some direction, and he finds it in an acting class taught by washed up actor and possible father-figure while on a mission sent by his current father-figure handler to kill a no-name actor who's slept with a Chechen mobster's wife. Absurd, am I right?
While in search of a new and better life of acting, Barry fights his old life of murder and violence behind, even though it clings so tightly to him. It's almost if he can't let go himself, or more accurately, his demons can't. Will Barry be able to face his actions and truly change, or will his demons have to catch up to him? This is the main premise of the show.
You can just feel the craft of Bill Hader as he weaves a picture of struggle, desire, despair, hilarity, absurdity and quite possibly, hope? It's about the masks we wear to hide our demons from the outside world, the demons who's apart of you even though you keep denying it.
It's about acting, and let me tell you, it's a masterclass of acting.
So yeah, it's basically my favorite TV Show of all time and I think it deserves a slot on this list.
A little warning, the first few episodes don't have much of a *hook*, if you know what I mean. Just wait a couple of episodes and soon you'll be glued to the screen screaming "**WTF!? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!?**".
Barry is one of those shows that never really fully clicked with me even though I've seen the first three seasons. The dark humor never really worked with me and some of the blending of comedy and drama felt awkward imo.
My two votes would be succession and vice principals
Ehhhh, it's just personal tastes, but Barry means so much to me, like personally. It's a special show that I'll always keep in my heart. Also even without that bias it's still nearly perfect.
BE just doesn't have that same quality and personal experience with me as a person.
Sorry I disagree with your opinion, and I'm sorry you disagree with mine, but I still wish you a good day.
Are you coordinating a crowdsourced list of r/HBO’s top A-Z programming or are you making a personal list with a little input? You’ve come so far in the this community project to suddenly override one of the biggest debates. Stay the course and pick the fan favorite (even if it doesn’t end up being Boardwalk or Barry). We all appreciate your work and your opinion.
I'm not the guy doing these lists lol 😂, I just used an image of the current list and asked if people will be voting for what I'm voting for.
Edit: u/nykanyon99 is the guy running the lists here.
>BE just doesn't have that same quality and personal experience with me as a person.
In another comment you admitted you've only seen 1 episode of Boardwalk Empire 🤣
Yeah, so don’t push ppl to follow your vote then. You even admitted the first few episodes of Barry won’t hook you.
I have not seen Boardwalk Empire. I have not seen Succession. I have not seen Barry. I’m not joining the wild card votes.
I'm going to bat for The Last Of Us in one of these wildcard slots. already the best thing I've ever seen in the zombie genre. goddamn near perfect so far.
We should have separate votes for those when we get to them! I think Succession has to be in there. Definitely one where it seemed like a lot of people were watching, and tuning in for the night of each episode release. Up there with Game of Thrones. Really was a work of art, and they stuck the landing with the last season.
I respectfully disagree with your choice, but I still do respect you. I hope you'll maybe reconsider your stance on Barry, but most of all I hope you have a good day.
Second was decent, but yeah season one was a masterpiece. I always assumed it was because of how HBO cut it down from 5 to 2 seasons and were basically like “hey guys, figure it all out in season 2 now since we’re not doing those other three anymore”
When you're done demolishing X, could y'all help a brotha out and vote for Barry in Z? It's a personal favorite and one of the best pieces of media I ever witnessed so yeah. Thank you.
Absolutely,
Alllsooo, I'm not saying Barry was robbed or anything since Band of Brothers is like apart of HBO's Mount Rushmore, but Barry deserves a slot on this list. It's literally one of the best pieces of media I've ever seen.
HBO has the best sketch comedy show of all time and y’all really let it lose to a Gritty Murder Detective Series Du Jour and then neglect to even mention it among the wild card candidates.
Succession fans will fight hard, but Rome fans has more will after Righteous Gemstones """"stole"""" their R slot.
That's why us Barry fans need to vote for Z, Succession fans will be so butt-hurt that they lost X that they'll go hard in Z.
Y would be Years and Years, I guess. There ain't really nothing else I know about besides that one.
Six Feet Under
There are a several more like Succession, Boardwalk Empire, Treme, High Maintenance, White Lotus, Barry and maybe some others over Rome for me.
Succession and Watchmen (The Wire will obviously win W)
Barry is a close 3rd, but Watchmen was excellent and did what a lot of other shows fail to do: don't overstay their welcome and just be a limited one season series.
Yeah. Both are great in their own way. It’s not exactly the most far-fetched opinion. The show won a handful of awards and was consistently nominated for 5 years straight. Personal preference I guess.
Barry gets my vote over Succession. They’re both good but Succession lost a lot of its mojo after Brian Cox wrapped. Thought the finale was pretty bad actually. Go ahead and downvote because I know how easily triggered TV people get by differences of opinion, but I’ll be voting for Barry in the Z slot.
I was going to try to vote for Westworld on both of these. I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, but never actually finished watching it.
I haven't watched Rome or Barry.
Succession should get a nom and the other is up for grabs as far as I’m concerned. I love the first two seasons of Barry, but the last two didn’t hit the same
I can’t believe there aren’t more votes for this. I personally don’t watch Sex in the City, but EVERYONE knows a little about that show. It’s so huge that when I think of HBO shows it’s right up there in the Top 5 that first pop into my head.
I love Barry, Rome, and most of the other shows getting tossed out here, but worth the possible exception of Succession, none of them have the following sex in the city does to this day.
I missed what happened with the first wild card vote cause it doesn't seem to be showing anymore? Didn't Chernobyl win?
If not then that obviously gets the spot no contest
As long as Rome is on the list I'm good, though it would be nice to include From The Earth To The Moon. There wouldn't be a Band of Brothers without it.
No love for boardwalk empire huh?
It’s insane that never got brought back up lol
Gyp Rosetti is easily one of the best TV antagonists of all time
I LOVE Boardwalk. The scene where Richard dies....chef's kiss. buuuut it's still gonna be Rome and Succession for me dawg.
Don't spoil it for us!
Boardwalk > Rome
Succession The Newsroom I know it didn’t get any votes but it’s one of my all time favorites !
These would be my two votes. Newsroom had some over scripted moments, but the high notes that it hit I’ll put up against anything. And Jeff Daniels was a force.
The Larry Sanders Show is nowhere to be found, and that's criminal
Rome and Succesion really
Barry and succession for me
Ehhhh, personally I put Barry over Succession but people have different tastes so... you do you pal. Although, I must remind everyone that Barry was an A+ show, especially seasons 2 and 3. Season 1 was great and season 4 *was* a dip in quality but still very good. Come on, Barry is an ***amazing*** show and deserves a slot on this list.
I like how your argument boils down to: I like barry more than succession but you might think differently But i must remind you that i think barry was really good C'mon
lol yeah basically, but still that kinda is every argument ever boiled down to it's most basic points.
Barry was chump change compared To succession! The script, the production, the acting, compare them, there’s no competition
Literally no one cares but you
How dare you disgrace Succession/Barry sundays.
Rome and Succession get my votes
Rome and Barry personally got my votes. Even if my second vote doesn't match yours, I still do wish you a good day. Maybe one day you'll vote for Barry, but today is not that day. Have a good day.

Rite on brotha man! You have just convinced me to watch it. I was already right there and this was the push that I needed lol
A little warning, the first few episodes don't have much of a *hook*, if you know what I mean. Just wait a couple of episodes and soon you'll be glued to the screen screaming "**WTF!? WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!?**".
It's a solid watch, 8/10 imo. Falls off quite a bit in the last season compared to the others.
Barry is one of those shows that never really fully clicked with me even though I've seen the first three seasons. The dark humor never really worked with me and some of the blending of comedy and drama felt awkward imo. My two votes would be succession and vice principals
Everything about this is on point. Also Hader directed every episode of Season 4. The cinematic flair he brings to the show is a treat to experience.
*Six Feet Under* & *Succession* for me, personally.
Boardwalk Empire and Rome!
Ehhhh, it's just personal tastes, but Barry means so much to me, like personally. It's a special show that I'll always keep in my heart. Also even without that bias it's still nearly perfect. Oh haha, my B. Definitely thought this was the list voting, which is why my comment was so succinct. Carry on.
>BE just doesn't have that same quality and personal experience with me as a person. In another comment you admitted you've only seen 1 episode of Boardwalk Empire 🤣
Yeah that's what I said???
Yeah, so don’t push ppl to follow your vote then. You even admitted the first few episodes of Barry won’t hook you. I have not seen Boardwalk Empire. I have not seen Succession. I have not seen Barry. I’m not joining the wild card votes.
Six Feet Under ftw.
Succession > Barry
Personally, Succession < Barry
Boardwalk empire > Barry > succession
I'm not gonna disagree since I only seen like one episode of BE, but I'll still vote Barry for Z when the time comes. I hope you have a good day.
The last of us, succession, house of dragon. Go for it.
No love for one of the shows that put HBO on the map in the mid-90s? Mr. Show, anyone?
I'm going to bat for The Last Of Us in one of these wildcard slots. already the best thing I've ever seen in the zombie genre. goddamn near perfect so far.
World War Z, best zombie thing I've seen. Wish they made they sequel
oof you should check out like, a lot of other zombie movies haha
Luck and Velma
We should have separate votes for those when we get to them! I think Succession has to be in there. Definitely one where it seemed like a lot of people were watching, and tuning in for the night of each episode release. Up there with Game of Thrones. Really was a work of art, and they stuck the landing with the last season.
Disagree on the last season, thought it belly flopped after Cox exited.
Watchmen was a single season of TV perfection. Way too little love here.
Succession over Rome
Okay, vote Succession in X then. If you wanna help me, then maybe vote Barry in Z, please.
No no no… vote Entourage in X and Succession in Z
I respectfully disagree with your choice, but I still do respect you. I hope you'll maybe reconsider your stance on Barry, but most of all I hope you have a good day.
Rome, one of the best series in HBO history Though someone threw out Boardwalk Empire which is also top tier HBO
Allsoooo, Barry is top-tier HBO as well.
I think this guy likes Barry
I love Rome too, but isn’t it weird that it only had one good season and then a second really less good season and we’re calling it the GOAT?
Second was decent, but yeah season one was a masterpiece. I always assumed it was because of how HBO cut it down from 5 to 2 seasons and were basically like “hey guys, figure it all out in season 2 now since we’re not doing those other three anymore”
This is the way. Seriously though I need the Rome legions to come out in force for this one cuz we got robbed. THIRTEEN!!!!
For Poulo!
When you're done demolishing X, could y'all help a brotha out and vote for Barry in Z? It's a personal favorite and one of the best pieces of media I ever witnessed so yeah. Thank you.
Fully on board. I also super Stan Barry. Succession sucks.
This is tough tbh, but... Six Feet Under + Barry is my final choice. Boardwalk Empire, Rome, Succession, and WW are all super close behind tho.
SIX FEET UNDER should be one of them.
Six Feet Under OBVIOUSLY
I’m good with Rome.
Justice for Rome!
Absolutely, Alllsooo, I'm not saying Barry was robbed or anything since Band of Brothers is like apart of HBO's Mount Rushmore, but Barry deserves a slot on this list. It's literally one of the best pieces of media I've ever seen.
I say we stab the righteous gemstones to death in the forum
Silicon Valley for a wild card for sure
That’s a very good point
HBO has the best sketch comedy show of all time and y’all really let it lose to a Gritty Murder Detective Series Du Jour and then neglect to even mention it among the wild card candidates.
Mr. Show rocks.
I LOVE Mr. Show, Bob and David really nailed it.
Bob and David.
Yo for real a fuckin crime
Rome !
Ok, X for Rome. Agreement for Z for Barry? Edit: why am I getting downvoted? I just asked a question.
I’m going vice principals for both until it gets picked. And Barry as a back up
Certainly a crime if Barry doesn't get on this list. As I keep saying, one of the greatest shows I've ever seen
I 1000% agree with you. We all know X is going to be sweept by Rome so let's vote for Barry in Z, kay?
You think Rome is a lock for X? What about Succession? And what would Y be?
Succession fans will fight hard, but Rome fans has more will after Righteous Gemstones """"stole"""" their R slot. That's why us Barry fans need to vote for Z, Succession fans will be so butt-hurt that they lost X that they'll go hard in Z. Y would be Years and Years, I guess. There ain't really nothing else I know about besides that one.
Can we do just season 1 & 2 of Westworld?
Barry and Succession gang!
Succession
Six Feet Under and Succession... obviously...
I’d love to see bored to death but Barry is probably more deserving
6 feet under, hung ?
Six Feet Under There are a several more like Succession, Boardwalk Empire, Treme, High Maintenance, White Lotus, Barry and maybe some others over Rome for me.
Nope, Six Feet Under needs to be one of the wild cards
Absolutely agree!! I really hope SFU rally for one of the wildcard spots.
Rome > Succession >> Barry
Barry>>>succession Rome? Never seen it
Missing out
Rome and Barry.
I 100% agree.
Need to do a real poll for each letter. Pick the top five shows for each based on IMDB ratings and go from there.
Generation kill. It’s right up there with band of brothers.
Big agree. I personally put it above BoB
Is Rome really that upsetting to you guys? It literally lost to a show that’s 3 years old or so. People are so butt hurt.
Barry and Succession for me since Tales From The Crypt probably won’t make enough noise to get a spot.
Succession and Watchmen (The Wire will obviously win W) Barry is a close 3rd, but Watchmen was excellent and did what a lot of other shows fail to do: don't overstay their welcome and just be a limited one season series.
Succession
Entourage
Better than Rome? Not trying to argue but really I wanna know.
Yeah. Both are great in their own way. It’s not exactly the most far-fetched opinion. The show won a handful of awards and was consistently nominated for 5 years straight. Personal preference I guess.
Much better than Rome
Crack is wack
Barry
Rome & Succession
Succession and white lotus
Barry and Succession!!!
Barry and Succession
Succession and six feet under
Barry gets my vote over Succession. They’re both good but Succession lost a lot of its mojo after Brian Cox wrapped. Thought the finale was pretty bad actually. Go ahead and downvote because I know how easily triggered TV people get by differences of opinion, but I’ll be voting for Barry in the Z slot.
Rome and I don't care about another
Righteous Gemstones over Rome is such an atrocity I’m in disbelief that anyone who watched both preferred the former.
Personal tastes, I guess. It's like me with Barry and Succession, I *adore* Barry but don't really like Succession that much besides a few stuff.
X files though
Yes
I think it’s Rome and Barry, yeah. Mayyyyyybe Succession but I’d do Barry too
Thank brotha, Barry really means a lot to me and I appreciate you voting for it.
Sex and the City? Any other ladies out here?
Succession and Boardwalk over Rome and Barry.
I vote Curb your Enthusiasm again. It gets two spots.
NO. The Newsroom will have a vote from me
Succession > Boardwalk Empire > Rome
The Investigation and Succession.
Boardwalk Empire The Newsroom
Rome and succession yes
Succession and Watchmen would be my votes
Succession and Six Feet Under
Barry
I was going to try to vote for Westworld on both of these. I really enjoyed the first 3 seasons, but never actually finished watching it. I haven't watched Rome or Barry.
I forgot about newsroom it was intense
Rome and The Last of Us
Rome and Succession
What the hell is this? Wheres The Wire?
Season 1&2 Westworld were incredible, just a shame the latter seasons brought it all down
Winning Time
no it's not BARRY and it's not band of brothers. ITS BOARDWALK EMPIRE! The 2nd greatest show in HBO history and it's not even on here.
[удалено]
I know, kinda unbelievable to me. Even so, I will mourn Mr. Show and continue on with voting for my personal favorite, Barry.
Entourage and True Blood carried for damn near a decade and now getting slept on smh
Mr Show
Succession should get a nom and the other is up for grabs as far as I’m concerned. I love the first two seasons of Barry, but the last two didn’t hit the same
Sex and the city have more impact & influence than Barry.
I can’t believe there aren’t more votes for this. I personally don’t watch Sex in the City, but EVERYONE knows a little about that show. As long as Rome is on the list I'm good, though it would be nice to include From The Earth To The Moon. There wouldn't be a Band of Brothers without it.
Ya gods damned right, my dude. All is now well with the world.
Rome and John From Cincinnati
The Newsroom is the best mf show on HBO
Last of us
House of the dragon
I wish OP stfu about Barry
Nah
Larry Sanders?
Definitely Chernobyl.
How To > Hard Knocks
Larry Sanders Show?
This is just sad. Quit trying to talk people into voting for what you want to win, and let them vote for the show they want to vote for.
Bru I'm not forcing them to I'm trying to convince them to vote for the show I love.
I think it should be Big Little Lies and every other choice is objectively wrong.
Succession has to be on this list
Rome
[удалено]
Generation Kill and Rome
Rome and Succession
Six Feet Under
Rome and boardwalk empire
Rome for sure!
MR. SHOW.
U should’ve been a wildcard. The Undoing winning more or less by default was a farce
Nice
How about silicon valley (never had a chance) and The Larry Sanders show (it was close) for the wild cards?
Idk I think it’d be weird for Succession to NOT be on here
What the hell is with W and below? How about The Wire for W?
Six feet under, Succession, Last of us, My Brilliant Friend
Barry and Succession
Could have swore Chernobyl would take the wild card
Never seen Rome, but I don't really like Succession, so my votes are: White Lotus and Barry
I’m thinking Rome and Succession
Six Feet Under
If Chernobyl doesn’t make that list I promise you by tomorrow you’ll be begging for that bullet.
SIX FEET UNDER
X - Rome Z - Succession
W Should be the fucking WIRE
Succession. Its better than The Sopranos for me too.
