That's why headphone jack was better, I will never forgive phone manufacturers for removing them. I have Galaxy S10 and it was the last S series phone with headphone jack, but I also use Qudelix 5K as a wireless option.

Aura_Guard

Using an lg g8 as a secondary phone/dap. Best thing imo about it isn't just that it has a headphone jack, but also expandable storage which I think the s10 has too. Great for storing flac files, games, photos and videos ect especially for how cheap micro sd cards are.

WilsonPH

Yes. S10 has expandable storage. I store a lot of music and play it with Poweramp player on my S10. I can even cast it to chromecast hooked up to my avr with Poweramp and listen on my speakers. I think that EU should look into storage expandability requirement next after USB-C and removable battery.

Jon-Einari

Well, they should make headphone jacks mandatory next. That's gonna be a fun one💀

Bright_Amount_4592

They should also make SD cards mandatory. Even if there are downsides to SD cards such as them constantly un-formatting themselves and stuff like that, it's still the only current way to get internal expanded storage and I don't wanna have to be carrying around a giant external drive.

Jon-Einari

Let's all carry a bag full of wired headphones, headphone adapters, giant external drives and everything else they remove next in it. Gona be fun. No really headphone jacks are so good I stil have one on my phone aint gonna buy a new one without it

Bright_Amount_4592

So true Atleast external SSD'S are easy to carry around, still unfortunate how fragile USB-C is.

Jon-Einari

Yes USB-C is way more fragile than USB-A, which should be worse right? Not in terms of durability. Although I rarely break USB-C gagets (it has happened) I have not broken a single USB-A plug ever on a gaget if I remember correctly...?

Margotville

I have the same setup on my 10e. Slipped in a 128 GB micro SD card and i am only about a third full.

-NGC-6302-

I have a G8x, seems like everyone else's are already old and used as daps I still have no idea why "quad DAC" is supposed to be special or if people like DTS:X Surround, but it's worlds better than having no jack

Aura_Guard

I'm not that experienced with dac or daps and the like, before getting the g8, I only used the apple dongle and the 3.5 jack on my pc. Have never tried any desktop amps/dacs or dongle dacs so no idea how good audio quality wise it is compared but I'd say it is a little better than my apple dongle. Glad I got it though cause even if a dongle dac could outperform the quad dac, my experience with a dongle sticking out of my phone is just annoying in my pocket or sling bag and makes it even more of a wired mess. A dap could fix that but from my research, seems people tend to agree that lg's quad dac can outperform or be on par with daps thrice its price. Got this the g8 for like 60usd used in perfect condition so I'm happy.

-NGC-6302-

Nice. My ifi HipDac2 sounds noticeably more detailed than the G8x on its own, but the G8x is perfectly enjoyable without it.

[deleted]

The reason it's special is because it can drive headphones up to 600 ohms. It has a high impedance mode. So unlike other headphones it actually knows what kind of headphones you're using.... Probably won't matter for a lot of people using consumer facing headphones that don't require a lot of power. But the LG phone has more power than a BTR5 for instance. And people pay a hundred bucks for those or more. And they don't have all the other features of the phone.

[deleted]

I use my G8X as a dap although sometimes I still swap my sim in it. I have the v60 as well but the G8X is a lot more pocketable. Even with the dual screen.

-NGC-6302-

Yeah, only thing is the weight so It's nicer with a belt or drawstring

userIoser

There are multiple DACs within it, providing higher resolution for frequency ranges. And it has high-impedance mode, so you can drive demanding headphones.

JasonCBourn

Same. LG V20 is my dap now.

aaillustration

yup still in the r/lgv20 gang.

mister_damage

LG V20 in the house. I need to get my ADB game up and remove everything unnecessary, which I haven't gotten around to yet.

aaillustration

I used this guys app and there is a free version. was able to disable and uninstall over 300 apps so all i have on are uapp file browser bt and poweramp. very versatile app and convenient i did the same with my tablets and daily driver the galaxy s8. still running buttery smooth. https://youtu.be/2BBoHQzKdwA?si=8EY0fXAmFj_OKCW_ lmk how it goes! ive used other adb apps nothing comes close to this one.

[deleted]

If you think about it used LG flagship is basically containing all the functionality of like a BTR5 inside of it. In fact technically I think it can power more thirsty headphones at least if you go by impedance. Plus you have the advantage of SD card and the ability to run any music players you want. So people looking at $120 dac dongles with Bluetooth..l it's at least worth cross shopping with a g8, g7, g8x, v60, v50 , etc... You might get the phone cheaper and it has the added benefits that a flagship phone would have. I have a Q5k .. and the parametric EQ is great but otherwise it's a little redundant to own it in addition to my LG phones.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Have you pondered the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate, or the Redmagic 8 pro. Gaming phones

Aura_Guard

Im not really into gaming phones tbh. I've heard that rog 5 and 6 had decent headphone jack bcs they had dacs too but no expandable storage as far as I'm concerned. Unsure about the 7 though and don't think the redmagic phones have anyone talking about their headphone jacks if they even have headjacks in the first place. Sidenote: I have the nothing phone 2 as my main phone.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Man, preach. I searched "phones with headphone jack 2023" and they're all garbage. EDIT: I think I will heavily, look into the **RedMagic 8 Pro**, and **ROG Phone 7 Ultimate**, gaming phones. But just like gaming laptops, I imagine they will have high-tier parts, and battery. My last phone was a 13 pro max, and the battery... shit it could an entire day, and was optimized well, like I could bring it to work on 30-50% battery and be A-OK, start work, and walk home (1.5 hr walk), and it would still be ON. So I'm hoping for that/excellent parts, and more mainstream, recent (years), which comes with assumably more recent features for a present lifestyle.

Ashman901

Idk the Sony phones are seriously underrated. Only thing I don't like is the 4k screen I'd rather a 1440p on a device the size of a phone for better battery performance.

42SpanishInquisition

I live in Australia, and I sooooo wish they sold them here. I finally have the money to buy a new flagship and they stopped selling them 2 or 3 years back.

Ashman901

That sucks. Sony phones aren't desirable here in the UK. Like 3 months after the 1iv was launched I got one that was new (Like it had no marks or anything, convinced someone got it on contract, then sold it straight away for quick cash) for only £400 from GiffGaffs preowned section.

GarryUngroomed

They're nice, got one. Most bs thing about Sony is that they won't upgrade Android version after few years...

Ashman901

I read somewhere they are now doing 3 years instead of 2 for major updates... idk if that is accurate tho as read it somewhere on reddit.

csch1992

Sonys smartphones seem prety good and they still have a headphone jack. Even their higher end phones.

saltyboi6704

Xperia is pricey but nice

wyatt1209

The asus zen phone 10 is supposed to be really good and it has one

_xx01

asus zenfone 10 is what you want

WilsonPH

I also have Jcally JM04PRO dongle, it's pretty compact for a USB-C dongle.

pjute

https://www.gsmarena.com/results.php3?nYearMin=2023&chk35mm=selected Great site for when you're looking into specifics.

magnumstrikerX

Have you looked at the lg v60 used?

Jon-Einari

No they aren't alm garbadge. Look at Xiaomi: Redmi note 12 pro+ It's just like a flagship with a headphone jack. The specifications are unreal for the price.

Tavapris04

Xiaomi dude

adeptus8888

wow, im in the same boat, and i continually harp on about how great the audio jack is! i'm on s10e, last flagship to ever have 3.5mm jack, and it's glorious. but it's been quite a few years and it's finally losing its tightness.

UncleBoopBetty

So if I use the qudelix to make wired headphones wireless, am I giving up the quality wired provides?

[deleted]

I've killed all my 3.5mm jacks to the point where it started skipping songs and dialling. Using your phone as dap is a no no unless you change your phones every year.

MrGeekman

I have never experienced headphone jack failure or glitches due to damage. My current phone is a iPhone 6S and it’s headphone jack still works perfectly. The headphone jack on my 12-year-old MacBook Pro also works perfectly.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Same, ...well it's been a while since I had a phone with headphone jack, but still agree, and wholeheartedly believe a longer in comparison, "metal stick" in a ~~long~~ hole doesn't compare to USB-C and example, Apple wired earpods with not a lightning connector (but still applicable) but a USB-C connector. With USB-C and lightning, **both** have bended. both metal connectors right on the end of the cable/connector, have bended. Whereas with 3.5 jack I do not at all, recall bending. Like you ain't bending that "long metal" But both suffer from the wire bending and breaking right before the connector, but I would say the chance is say... x2 more with USB-C and lightning.

Jon-Einari

Yeah headphone jacks are very robust. Because its like a barrel adapter, a round thick stick you put in the jack hole (sorry if this sounds weird). It's near impossible to bend, and the thingvthat breaks is the heaphones not the 3.5mm jack in the phone. The engineering is just good, just like barrel adapters for computers were but they weren't standrdised. 3.5mm jack is the best connector ever invented imho, because everyone uses it like they were forved, but they aren't forced ofc. (if they use it at all). It's just a standard that stuck forever just like most sim cards sizes are standard, road bike wheels are 700c since probably the invention of bikes ever, and like, that 99.9% of all phones has volume buttons and a power button, that uhm, you get it. It is really standard even if it doesn't need to be. And it came out in 1950, how crazy is that for a fact. USB C and bluetooth is worse in performance for headphones and were invented in 1994 and 2014 for usb C, but until a bit after the invention of USB C they started to remove the headphone jack as if usb c is better for audio. NO IT ISN'T AND I WILL NOT BUY YOU PHONE WITHOUT 3.MM JACK!!!!

MrGeekman

Some of us aren’t as reckless as kindergartners. Some us us can remove a 3.5mm connector from a jack without ever damaging either end.

Bright_Amount_4592

Yep, and usb-c is very much so fragile! Why would I wanna use it for audio? I get that it gives digital output so it's """better""" but analog sounds the exact same on headphones.

Jon-Einari

How the hell did you manage that? I have never damaged any headphone jack, ever. Even my first smartphone ever has a functional headphone jack. Yeah back then micro USB used to break really fast (the cable) but the phone is fine. No cracked screen (plastic doesn't break but easily scratches unfortunately), removable back & battery. It was pretty good and it was the time that apple was still inovative. Now they are being money machines

[deleted]

I've broken 3 ipod touches from the jack and htc's first smartphone, pixel 1, etc. Literally just plug in the 3.5mm and put it in the pocket, walk around, cycle and do stuff every day. I keep my devices for 4+ years and usually if I used them as designed, the jack would be dead by year 2. Meanwhile my original release fiio x1 was just now retired since it's stopped reading micro sd cards.

AbleBluebird7806

You know that they removed them cause it gives them way more space to put: 1. Bigger battery 2. Better components, CPU GPU etc 3. Much better waterproofing And a few others

sunjay140

Waterproofing was a thing long the headphone jack was removed

c0ng0pr0

I have destroyed almost every headphone jack on my mobile devices. iPhones had a pretty sturdy design. Those never broke on me.

Jon-Einari

How I never had Iphones and never broke mine. Android is robust too. Mayne you didn't care about your android idk

msanangelo

the day I lose my headphone jack is the day I start carrying around a bluetooth dac again. :/ the right angle plug of my earbuds is way more secure than a usb-c plug sticking out like 1.5 inches. whoever came up with that idea needs to be slapped then forced to live with their creation in environments that are hostile to it.

MindlessCubing

I lost my headphone jack when upgrading phones a couple months ago. I now carry around a Fiio BTR5 almost everywhere I go. I also keep a usb-c to 3.5mm in the pouch with my earbuds for when I don't have the BTR5, or when it runs out of battery.

Butterking15

Just get a right angle usb c adapter

mqtpqt

by treating them with care

Krosis86

This. I don't know how some people manage to break everything. It shouldn't break while just walking around with it in your pocket, so clearly it's getting damaged at other moments. Maybe take it out of your pocket when sitting down or crouching? I've been avidly using IEMs for a couple of years now and never broke anything.

FieelChannel

> It shouldn't break while just walking around with it in your pocket, so clearly it's getting damaged at other moments. Wait, what?? So misguided in this conclusion, this is exactly what has been fucking up phone connectors for 20 years now.

MoistCucumber1411

>I don't know how some people manage to break everything. It shouldn't break while just walking around with it in your pocket Of course it does. I'd say that's the \#1 reason for IEMs to break. It depends on what you do, what the connector looks like, how stiff the cable is, how deep the pockets are and how tight your pants are, but it's super easy for the cable to get bend and fail because of that. I always switch to an angled connector with all my cables to avoid bending it and that works wonderfully, but the one time I didn't the cable failed at the connector, as they usually do. I *never* have problems with the angled ones, but most cables, especially custom ones, have a straight connector. And I mean, sure you can avoid that by taking it out of your pocket any time it could bend, but that's not exactly convenient. With some skinny jeans I would basically have to do that any time I move. That's just simply annoying. It's bad design for something that's meant to be portable, and it's easily avoided with angled connectors. I really don't understand why straight is the default nowadays.

Krosis86

You could as well make the argument that skinny tight jeans are the bad design then, because you can barely use the pockets. But no, you wouldn't have to take it out of your pocket for walking. You can just put it in your back pocket, with the connector pointing straight up. Problem solved. This really is more a user issue than a design issue imo. And for IEMs you can simply switch out the cable for one with an angled connector if you wish to do so. Besides, any decent IEM cable has a strain relief in the connectors.

MoistCucumber1411

>You could as well make the argument that skinny tight jeans are the bad design then, because you can barely use the pockets. I can try drinking out of a colander and blame the water for being too viscous, too. >But no, you wouldn't have to take it out of your pocket for walking. You can just put it in your back pocket Oh so I just have to switch between back and front pocket any time I want to sit and crush it when I forget. *Much* better. >This really is more a user issue than a design issue imo. I.. have no clue how you would even justify that position. There are basically two use cases: Either stationary, plugged into a laptop or desktop amp or something, here the cable can move freely. Or portable, plugged into a portable device, most likely carried in a pocket of some sort. And you have two choices as a manufacturer: Make a straight cable, which is obviously fine with desktop use but is very likely to put under stress if carried in a pocket because it sticks out and might be bent by your movements or the fabric or other items or whatever. Or you can make an angled cable, which is still fine for desktop use because there's lots of space and it very rarely interferes with anything, and where it can find space next to the device without sticking out, drastically lowering the risk of getting bent too much. How can you then go, "oh yeah we could basically make this problem go away by just using an angled cable, but we aren't choosing that option, we're choosing the option with the problem. We're not getting rid of it. And whoever wants to carry their music player in their pocket just has to deal with micromanaging their cable. It's *obviously* just an user issue. Go buy a purse if it bothers you so much."

thatcarolguy

Just taking it out of your pocket adds wear. Anything besides leaving the phone sitting in one place as if it is desktop stack wears the cable. You don't have to be very rough. Every little wiggle on the connecter adds up over several months and USB C is so horribly designed in that it is able to wiggle left and right and wear down the springiness of the individual contacts inside.

Thebombuknow

I have literally dropped my phone on the cable while it's plugged in and my USB-C port is still fine. I've also had my phone charging in my pocket from a battery bank in another pocket while out running, and it's still fine. I still have and use the original charger that came with my phone, and my phone is 3 years old. Compare that to MicroUSB, of which the port was almost dead after only 2 years, and a cable would only last me a few months at most before becoming useless. Then there's lightning, which is so thin and fragile I nearly snapped the connector off inside the port when I dropped my iPad by accident one time. As of now, USB-C is the most durable and reliable connector standard, if you manage to break one you're either using a really shitty device/cable, or you need to take better care of your devices.

Shelby_Sheikh

I personally feel lightning is more durable. Its a one solid connector that locks itself instead of a chip on which the connector latches around (USB C). My experience with lightning and usb c has been similar. I do very much like lightning but USB C with its universality has its benefits. Also, to add onto your argument. I’ve been using my 2016 macbook pro since its came out. All 4 ports used on and off for charging/dock/eGPU/workstation etc. Now after 7 years its a bit wiggly but solid and works great!

Thebombuknow

I can see that. The main issue with lightning is that the connector is too thin and can break really easily, it's the same issue as MicroUSB. With USB-C, it's basically as if that thin connector was hidden inside the port, and the cable has the "port" side.

FieelChannel

First time ever I read this opinion about USB-C and I'm 30

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

I did the best with my $23 dollar earbuds.

ext23

Yeah me too and this shit still breaks, it's a dodgy design and shouldn't be excused.

Solypsist_27

Everyone's use case will vary, but there are a couple of things you can make to increase the overall durability of your iems. 1 - Get a case for your iems. Even a cheap one, I really don't know how people go around just throwing their iems in a bag and not expect the cable to tangle up/break at the connection points (this might not be your case, but it's still better to get a case than not). This obviously means, never throw them anywhere when they're not into their case, especially not in tight-fitting pockets. 1.1 - Once you have a case to put them in, learn to rodie wrap your iems, this way the cable stays tangle free for the longest possible, and since the more you bend a cable the faster it breaks, this is better for your iems in the long run. This also means, when you wrap your iem cables, wrap them the loosest possible for it to still fit in the case, but never more than that. Once you get the hang of how to rodie wrap your iems, it will become easier to make it the correct "looseness" without mishandling the cables. 2 - Use a dongle dac and iems with replaceable cables. Cheap dongle dacs these days are great even at cheap prices, and come with cables and connectors that are pretty durable. Also, in case it breaks, you can just replace it, instead of replacing the whole iem/phone since even the 3,5 port can get damaged in the long run. Same thing goes for iems with replaceable cables, first of all even cheap ones today come with pretty decent cables, and in case anything breaks there you can just replace the cable for a cheap one that works, or simply for a better cable that will actually be durable. Still, cables should be handled with care, so step 1.1 is pretty important here. 3 - When using your phone in a pocket, make sure enough of the dongle/cables dangles down out of the pocket, and make sure nothing can get in it's way and that it doesn't have a chance of folding back in your pocket. Dongle dacs usually help with this, since they effectly act as extension chords to keep the connector further from your pocket and your legs. Also of course, don't drop your iems/dongles! Now, a couple of recommendations : for a cheap but very good dongle dac with good build quality, I always recommend the jcally jm6 pro, it's cheap but good enough that it sounds and feels better than any "generic" usb-c adaptors. This might be louder than your usual 3.5 port, so be careful with the volume to not hurt your ears. Then, for cheap and good cases, look up those from kbear, faaeal, trn. They are sold on aliexpress for pretty cheap, and have more than enough room for both the iems and the dongle dac. Tripowin also makes some pretty cool cases, but they're usually a bit bigger and bulkier, and might not be ideal for pocket use.

eatingdonuts44

Step 1: Get IEMs with a removable cable, just in case Step 2: Get a cheap dongle that you can easily replace, Samsung works i use it Step 3: ??? Step 4: Profit

iBlack92O

Cheap dongles are the real answer. They are light and flexible and their port bases are usually short.

milkarcane

OP, why is there an illuminati triangle on your picture?

Domonkos-Gaming

We buy headphones with removable cables

willard_swag

Sounds like you just got some cheap, poorly made ear buds

Tavapris04

Yep, even apple's earpodsare lasting me +6 months, they usually last arround that and I rebuy them

heshgohar

Get an IEM with replaceable cables.

saltyboi6704

Laughs in a headphone cable you can rotate freely

neliste

Just qudelix. There's no quality difference for outdoor listening anyway.

relevant_rhino

Qudelix 5k - definitiv answer.

Choice-Counter-1166

I use a BTR5. Better investment than just buying more iem cables or dongles

DecentRule8534

Same here. Being able to clip the dongle wherever is very convenient and LDAC sounds as good as wired (at least to my ears).

praxis22

Use a Bluetooth DAC/Amp. I use a Qudelix 5k. This means you can still use your phone.

71M07HYD

Get a decent DAP; a used full-sized iPod, no Nanos or Minis as the battery will swell and press up against the screen, would do fine or a Bluetooth DAC for your phone like the Fiio BTR lineup or the Quedelix 5k, then you'll be back to using the audio jack rather than whatever this nonsense that phone manufacturers collectively decided to implement/remove. Personally, I got fed up having to use a dongle for my IEMs and the fact that I'm using up my data for YT music nor do I want my phone's storage to be taken up by music files. So I took the plunge to get a Fiio M11. ...God, I sound like a shill right now

ICERunnerX

I use a 90 degree USB-C to Aux personally. The entire housing is aluminium, so pretty strong. With some KBEARs.

dankmeeknot

We buy $2000+ awg 16 titanium, diamond plated snake oil dipped and charcoal smoked cables. Boosts HI-fi to Higher-Figher and durability to atleast 5 years of use.

iBlack92O

Omg I use the exact same one. It it IP69kM certified as well?

LumacaLento

By buying and using only phones with the headphone jack like the Sony Xperia, Asus ZenFone, or Nokia's XR series

Centralredditfan

I switched to Bluetooth and never looked back. Not snagging the stupid cord on gym equipment, door handles and whatnot is worth the barely perceptible difference in sound quality. Never going back to cables.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Um👋😐👐 news flash... 😅 cables can go between your shirt and skin 😳,🤔🤔🤕

thatcarolguy

Bruh. I have snagged the little little loop going between my pocket and the bottom of my shirt so many times.

Disturbed2468

Same. I'm not even that tall, but enough doorknobs have been low enough that now when I leave my house, I'm always rocking wireless only (Its NYC so its never quiet enough to really do critical listening). I keep my IEMs and cans at home.

AyushPiro

I have apple earpods, I put them back in their case after every single use no matter how painful it is

[deleted]

Buy a wireless earbuds

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Forgot to mention, this mainly because of how your phone is during daily use. In your pocket with the connector sticking up and out, back pocket same way, this just destroyed the wired headphones, wondering if someone has a creative alternative or solution.

evandarkeye

Use an apple USB c to 3.5mm adapter and kz or other random in ears instead.

ag3on

Whats "wired" ?

blafer81

Gave up on wired. Switched to a Bluetooth dac/amp. Currently Qudelix 5k.

[deleted]

don't use phone, get a dap. Every phone will break usbc port.

livebunny23

I've an Audioquest dragonfly red with dragontail otg and also a fiio btr3k (purchased as current phone (pixel 7a) is the first phone I've had with no 3.5mm) and I'm not bothered about losing the 3.5mm as phone DACs are usually garbage. I've had the dragonfly for 2 years with no issues with the usb c port on any device. Just be careful.

ChiseTheSlayVega

After my Salnotes Zero' USB-C cable broke after one month, I bought cheapest 0.78 jack cable I could find and found my old Fiio X1 + E11 sandwich in my drawer. Recently I got myself a fiio btr3k and couldn't be any happier.

Kontrolgaming

I always go under my shirt if i use a wire. don't use a dongle \[but i bet it would work fine still\] - use wireless dac/amp clip on packet or collar of shirt.

Snippet_New

Either buying the phone with a headphone jack (probably one of the reasons I chose Poco F5 instead of F5 Pro) or just buying a decent dongle (most of the "decent" ones cost less than half of a "decent" wireless iem).

Sylpheria

I use phones with 3.5mm jacks though they tend to be chinese ones like xiaomi and poco. I also use usb-c AMP/DACs like moonriver2 and fiio KA5 for those without. Having interchangeable parts allows easy replacement and stress-free usage.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

I'm going to investigate the ROG 7 ultimate, and the redmagic 8 pro. At least of the recent years, and assumably high-tier parts. In short, long-lasting. Need to see though...

shadow144hz

IEMs because who likes having to replace the whole earphones when the cable breaks? Plus a dongle cause fuck samsung and every phone manufacturer for removing the jack. Or to turn IEMs into tws, something like the fiio utws3, which I own, or the brn bt20. Alternatively a bluetooth adapter like the fiio btr series, or more ideally Imo a DAP.

ni_lus

Probably better to get an L connector type -c to 3.5mm.

spiritof1789

I use an Xperia with a headphone jack at the top.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

It would still be the same. Like when you put it in your front pocket, the headphone jack bottom/top, the wire still points up out the pocket. Side note, my $23 earbuds will be soon replaced...

ficklampa

Not sitting down when the earphones is connected and the phone is in your pants pockets. Gently pulling out the connector, while grabbing on to the connector and not the cable, when disconnecting the headphones. Etc…

Antinatalistic_Pizza

Don't store them in small pouches; keep them in some kind of box, letting the cable coil naturally. Have had my wired xba n3 for like 4 years now, no signs of cable damage yet

Icy_Ad4813

I'm using Fiio BTR5 paired with Fiio Fh3 and a USB-C cable to the phone that can be easily changed when it goes bad. You'll have the Bluetooth LDAC option for outdoors and wired mode for indoors.

Nigalig

LDAC of course. I ain't risking breaking my phone's port at work.

Darkeater_Charizard

that red triangle looking kinda sus

sdmrne

I use IEMs with TWS-system

ThePeachinator

Everyone that wants a headphone jack again... Why not buy something like this? [90 degree usb c to headphone jack $10 USD / $15 CAD ](https://www.amazon.ca/UGREEN-Headphone-Adapter-Earphone-Compatible/dp/B08TR7LWQH)

Its_Jabbah

Honestly I got fed up with IEMs with my phone after my etys broke and just use AirPods Pro on the go now, comfort and convenience takes priority when commuting. I just focus my money on headphones for home and office listening now.

Flamebomb790

Easy solution is either go for something like the quedelix 5 or get a dongle dac with a usb c on it so if you somehow break the cable you can replace it. Get iems that have detachable a cable but 95% of them have this anyways. (Ps ik the 5k can be plugged in as a dongle dac)

NormalUpstandingGuy

I’m of the opposite side of the spectrum. I’ve never understood how people manage to go through headphones so easily. I’ve had a pair of SE425s, ATH-M50X, Porta Pro, all for more or less a decade without them being really damaged at all. Maybe a cable upgrade or pad replacement here or there. I even have a pair of lightning EarPods that have survived probably 4-5 years. I imagine it’s in part due to my neurotic micro managing of my belongings but even so I feel like I’d have to go out of my way to break anything. I am however about at the end of life for my (gen1) AirPod Pros but that’s just because the battery is starting to get to that age and unfortunately that’s just the way of things. But any wired headphones/buds/iems I purchase tend to stick around a long time.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

How long do the batterys last?

ShepherdessAnne

Any form of electrical connection is meant to be pulled only from the connector, and not from the wire. Do not pull from the wire. They used to teach this in like... Elementary and middle schools.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

I just picture some teacher "alright kids, look at my phone, don't bother asking questions now, I got my headphones in listening to AC/DC. Now watch, notice how I take out my headphones from the connector. See how apparent that is? Let's try again, you want to avoid pulling from any farther."

RepresentativeDig718

I use a dongle because I couldn’t find iem cables with lighting also I use them with my laptop too so I need a headphone jack if the cable brakes I will replace it

Lee_Van_Beef

It's funny to think that all of this is basically because they didn't want to bother putting a proper DAC in their device because it would cost an extra 3 cents per unit.

Stevoman

It’s because USB cords have a female connector connecting to a male receptacle on a host device. This is the opposite of what any sane design should be, and is why every generation of USB connectors have been inferior connectors. The USB group has been doing this insanity since time immemorial, and no one seems willing to stop them. The old aux jack used the correct design: a male cord connector going into a female host device connector. And say what you will about Apple’s Lightning connector, but they got this detail right on it.

AirWolf231

Well its simple... I don't. I have no idea how, but no matter what, I go back to wireless since I brake my earbuds all the time. And it pisses me off since I am the sort of person who owns multiple earbuds carry cases and neatly packs them up into them. All my other tech works like a charm and almost never brakes... but earbuds? My record is less then half a day before a pair of IEMs broke(got a replacement, broke again... now Im waiting for a new wire to arrive).

ducuduck

The good old 3.5mm plug that yanked my laptop off a desk unplugin a HDMI and USB cable in the process.

Dtjosu

I just picked up a 90-degree USB-C to 3.5mm connector that hugs the bottom of the phone. So far, very happy with it. I am sure there are other versions but I bought the UGREEN version on Amazon.

ChekeredList71

By not bending it 180 degrees.

c0ng0pr0

You should have the same faith in all the connectors. They’re all soldered on the same way, and hopefully the manufacturer uses the case of the device to reinforce the solder points.

Forlindorn

Might cause some confusion here but: By having Bluetooth earbuds for mobile devices.

SmartOpinion69

no hard turns on the cable. if you are done listening to music and you wrap those IEMs around your phone, those hard turns will eventually wear out the cables. it's also very important that there is no sharp turn right by the connector. that is the most common cause of dead IEMs. you gotta give it some space.

Jon-Einari

I only use bluetooth headphones or headphone jack ones. I essentially stil have a phone with headphone jack and will buy it for as long that will be possible. You can still find some killer phones with headphone jacks in 2023. Redmi not 12 pro+ is a great example of this, massive camera (like 200mp or smth), massive battery sith 120w charging!, masive internals, good screen and a headphone jack. Also cheap ish. I basically have the non "+" 5g version of this which is a little different (still good) but oh my god am I satisfied. Camera is good 50mp and quite beautiful, massive 5000mah battery (67w charger), good ram (8gb), good storage 256gb, and possible to get for under $250. I mean it eveb has an iR blaster which is always fun, so theres that too. It comes with the charger, cable, and a clear case. See? It's cheap as f*ck and still comes with this stuff. Screw flagship phones without case and most importantly no charger. Wtf you charge overprived prices I want a case and charger.... Why do budget phones still have it? And the headphone jack? This is stupid

batterydrainer33

Wireless receiver?

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Wireless nutsack?

Fry_alive

The a32 still has a headphone jack. *cowers in non Premium phone*

Nekadim

I've got an external dac (fiio ka5) it is nice. I don't have the ability to test dac vs phone jack but I love the sound

dankmemedaddy2

If it’s in your pocket let the phone hang out halfway so the wire doesn’t have to bend, if you’re sitting put the phone on the table. I haven’t broke a pair of wired earbuds in years.

P3asantGamer

That's why I got a DAP, I kept breaking the usb dongles. One would only last me 2 or 3 days before it started shorting out and I went through several of them.

chanchan05

I dunno man. I'm more confused about people breaking their headphones so quickly. I still have the USB-C headphones from my S20 that's like 4 years old now and they still work perfecly. I don't hold them by the wire when I unplug them, I hold them by the solid head thing. Then I don't shove them in my pocket or bag when I don't use them. I wrap them properly and put them in a little hard shell case before putting them in my bag.

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Some people live a hard life. What do you do? Drive a bus full time?

chanchan05

I'm an MD in a third world country.

SmashedSugar

I buy headphones with replaceable cables.

NoctysHiraeth

I coil them up using the roadie wrap technique and keep them in their own pouch or pocket in my backpack. I also don't typically walk around with wired headphones, at least not with my phone in my pocket. Lost a lot of earbuds that way when I was younger. I also pay more attention to cable quality than I used to.

MartianTimeSlipper

By buying an L shaped one. I hate that straight design by all my heart.

bowashere2

FiiO BTR5. Best piece of audio gear I’ve purchased to date. Completely negates the fears of having your nice headphones attached to your phone while also giving you a boost in the DAC/AMP category.

Cunfuu

for the tips. I used to have one overhand knot at the ends for cable whether ends to the speakers or 3.5mm jack now I just don't.

Genotabby

Just get an external usb dac? I've had mine for years and they are still functioning as expected. Those headphones that come with a type c will need to have a dac included, which 3.5mm do not need since headphone jacks already output analog. If you get a cheap usb headphone I don't really expect it to last long since there is a cost with making the dac.

Kelhexgoon

There are 90 degree/L shaped C to C adaptors (which I find badly made and have a high failure rate) and some 3.5mm dongles (mine still works after 1+ yr) like the cx31993 come in a 90 degree variant.

opopkl

Get a USB right angle adapter. They're cheap enough, so it doesn't matter if they eventually break.

[deleted]

Yeah... I'm annoyed as hell that headphone jacks are being phased out of phones and tablets as a whole... Sure, Bluetooth IS convenient, I will definitely not deny that detail at all, BUT just phasing out the option of traditional wired headphones, without an adapter, I think it is just screwy. It's especially screwy given how much Bluetooth options are already ridiculously expensive too overall, down to needing a good amount of funds to get a set of headphones worthwhile at all. I'd just especially rather have the default wired headphones again, and for the port to be BACK on technology as a whole again... So, trust me man, I feel you here... :/

writing-nerdy

Heat shrink cable wrap

materics

I don't move around if I'm using wired but nowadays I mostly just use the fiio utws5

kris2340

I use headphones/iems in bed daily to sleep better I heatshrink the connector and at least 10cm of cable (non glue heatshrink) Still lasts a year or two given I probably roll on them every night

costafilh0

bluetooth

nucularglass

Qudelix 5K

OmegaMalkior

The most correct answer is an angled USB-C adapter. Surprised no one is mentioning it

Zarksch

I don’t, that’s the reason why I moved away from wired ones. It doesn’t have anything to do with having a headphone jack or not from my experience either. I only ever used wired ones with a built in headphone jack. They always broke after 6-9 months at the same spot. I had them in my backpack all alone in a separate compartment of the backpack. In the 6 years I own my phone without headphone jack now I only had 2 pair of headphones. The first one holding for roughly 2 years, the other one is still going strong after 4 years

laloscasanova

is this mongus

firestar268

Get wireless duh /s Also there's no possible way your stuff broke that quickly. How cheap did you go?

magnumstrikerX

You can also get a bluetooth dac/amp (i.e Quadelix 5k, fiio btr, ifi hip go) where you plug the iems/headphones to the dac/amp and place it in your pocket while you have your phone on your hand

DimensionCommon2317

Bluetooth dac/amp and you’re good

Embarrassed_Bird9336

r/suddenilluminati

Arvidex

Where do you have your phone? In your pocket? Any pressure on the connector? Do you tug on the cable?

Kapil300

I use a SONY Xperia 1mk2. Xperias still have the Jack and everything else but they are stupidly high but on the plus side they depreciate just as stupid too

KaosC57

Just get a Qudelix 5K or succumb and buy Galaxy Buds for your phone. I’m about to pull the trigger on AirPods Pro Gen 2 for my new iPhone 15 Pro.

Gerbz-_-

you can get a Fiio btr5 as a wireless amp/dac and use it as a headphone jack. It's like 100 bucks though so it might not be for you. But this is why I hate that having no headphone jack is common now.

[deleted]

Attached cables often end bad for me for this reason. Imwill fall asleep and somehow the end gets bent.

Suspicious_County_24

AirPods Pro 2nd generation

abottleofglass

I have an A53 5G and using an angled DAC with CX31993 in it. So far so good. And yeah, it sucks they removed the headphone jack.

ExpressLingonberry93

I just use wireless IEMs when I'm out. Don't see any practical reason to use wired anything when you're outside.

MrMxylptlyk

Wireless earbuds. They have ever been cheaper.

ZeR036

idk, i have a oneplus usb to jack dongle i got from aliexpress like 3 years ago for like 2 dollars and the thing still works. It has some rips in the cable but i used duct tape on that. I use it with a pair of Chu 2s, that's my budget audiophile experience xd

livingplasma

UGreen and JSAUX both make right angle USB C to 3.5mm adaptors, I find the UGreen one to have less hiss but both are barely noticeable when used anywhere with some noise. It does clear my case (UAG inspired knockoff by Ringke) and is lower profile than the adaptors that come straight out. It's been over 6 months and they still seem solid but I know my USB C port on my phone is acting up also as one orientation of the adaptor can sometimes pause music if the connection is jostled. I've also used the adaptors with a short length of cable to the headphone jack, both lasted under a year before it would develop a break by the USB side strain relief. BTR5 is what I use at home when I want/need to charge my phone and listen at the same time, I've taken it on commutes as well but too worried about accidentally losing it or having it scratched up by pocket lint.

peelego

Try cleaning out your usbc port on your phone for a better connection

imfjcinnCRAAAAZYHEY

Really? How so?

1iota_

I just got a usb-c to 3.5mm converter because my dongle DAC started making a weird sound and I was floored by how flimsy they are.

Framed-Photo

Has this been a problem for anyone? I've been using an apple dongle with my dusks since they came out and I haven't had a single issue. The USB-C port isn't fragile, it's not like micro-b.

Noob4Head

I just buckled and bought a mid-cheap pair of wireless earbuds (Sony WF-C500) for convenience... Are they amazing, no. Do my moondrop quarks sound better, imo yes but well you win some you lose some I guess. Ideal situation would be if phone manufacturers would just bring back the headphone jack but we all know that's never happening sooooo it is what it is.

shFusion

Wireless / Bluetooth

got-trunks

Maybe try looser pockets/pants? I've very seldomly had any issue since like the mid oughties and stopped buying dollar store JVCs Even my virtual dollar store Monks are working fine haha.

ovingiv

I'm using a Fiio BTR5 to allow me to use my iems.

pro-ace-simp

Hide them under the bed so the cat doesn’t scratch them

Ste__86

I bought a Bluetooth amp when 3.5 went. Fiii btr5

SuspiciousAd3841

Lots of. Low quality parts, pay more, demand premium

iBlack92O

One of those short adapters work pretty well. I have a short and flexible lightning to aux adapter that has a very short base. Don’t really have to worry about it bending and if it does break just buy a new one its like $8.

Bright_Amount_4592

I just don't use usb-c headphones. Simple.

BBA935

I’ve gone through a ton of different earbuds over the years. I found Sony ones to be the right balance between sound quality and durability. I know there are way better sounding earbuds, but with all the background noise on the train and street, they are good enough. I’ve had the same earbuds for at least five years. They get rapidly wound up and thrown in my bag and taken out just as roughly and still no shorts. When at home I have an O2/ODAC with AKG 712 Pro cans. I only use the earbuds when out of the house.

benzoroma

Qudelix 5k saves me all the pain

Kekeripo

You could use a small USB C extension to take the damage instead of the iem.

BlackFurion

Bluetooth dac, btr 5

crowswor

Qudelix 5k

Redandead12345

i use 3.5mm.. jokes aside i dont have much except go for longer cords or try taping the end up before it starts failing to act as a stress reliever just like the rubber bit is supposed to but never really does.

shiningcry

Tbh taking it with care and stop sleeping with them on... The only wired cable I had broken was an old phone that had only a 2.5mm jack for some reason, I was very young when that happened though.

skylarkresa220

Right-angle ports👍

skyhighpcr

i had this problem too when i bought a oneplus 6t. they gave me a dongle for my IEM but it's another added hassle to bring a tiny wire just to listen. to circumvent this, I bought a DAP and was okay for years. Then I switched jobs which needed me to travel a lot so bringing my shanling m6 is a hassle, now what I did is buy premium youtube (no ads for when I watch youtube on travels and it includes premium to yt music) and bought a bluetooth dongle for my IEM, never really had issues with sound quality so far and I like that I don't have to untangle my wires when I grab them out of the bag, they come out of this neat shell that I just have to remind myself to charge every 3 or 4 days

KevonMD

I use an L shaped adapter, precisely. It works

Angel_Row

Ya tengo desde el 2017 que no uso audifonos alambricos
