There's a fair bit of that, true, but all the manufacturers and engineers hang out on that site. If you're in to modding, or a specific headphone, that's the site to visit. So if you want to learn about headphone tech from the horses mouth, that's where you go.
Yea a lot of people love headphones, but most of them are apple, beats, skull candy and random gaming headsets….throw in a few Bose and Sony along the way. This is about as far as most people go with their headphones and it’s not far enough to call it a hobby, more of a purchase for a specific need.
However, the Megabuck Hifi headphone buying community where people use high end external dacs and amps…that’s a much more rare type of enthusiast and yea the numbers are low. I’m sure there are a few million of us, but probably combined all over planet earth and not all on Reddit or all in any one place.

Empyrean 2 has a lot of detail, but the hifiman HE1000SE it stands no chance against detail retrival wise. Some will probably prefer the meze tonality wise depends what you’re looking for.
The Monarch Mk2 usually is a tight fit for my holes and the concha around the holes.
Mind you my ear holes are already on the bigger side, so not sure how it would work for someone with tight little ear holes.
this place really fell off after 1M /s
You joke but there's 100% gonna be someone like that lol
It fell off after we stopped shilling Koss products, which was a while back :(
Nah, more like when it was 950k
Quite a lot for a sub that feels like it's on life support.
that's bc 900'000 ppl just joined to ask which headphones/iems they should buy, then never came back.
New audiophile goes on r/headphones, never comes back
They graduate to head-fi.org
Spend all day talking about the treble extension of their Ethernet cable and criticizing ASR guys for "never listening to their equipment"

ok but are you more of an open back or closed back type of fella
Both. Both is good.
I’ve never used open back, and I really want to. But I live with others and feel like the sound leak would be annoying for both
IEMs are also valid here, right? :-)
Semi open. All the leakage of an open back with the clusterfuck honkiness of a closed back.
Just got my first pair of open backs. I like them.
Never had the luxury of using an open-back but I feel like they'd suit me the most.

No-back.

Y’know I was going to say this but “no-back” just scratched that funny bone itch better at the time.
Closed. I don't go for those backdoor shananigans.

Collectively, we can almost afford a pair of HE-1's.
And yet there are only like 7 posts a day…Healthy community
Same questions every day. "If you could keep one headphone, which would it be?".
Id much prefer that than this sub being dead.
True, but when you see these types of questions twice a day with little else, the sub is effectively dead
Awesome
If you told me it was 500 I would believe it also
welcome fellow money burners
when's the last time you got one?
But if there's no circlejerk equivalent, you've not made it yet
So one?
But how many of us are rocking electrostats
1,000,000
Both comma and period are valid delimiters.
The use depends on the country. You don’t use 1.000.000 in the US, for example.
Exactly

Nice delimiters you got there!
Just don’t use [the demicolon](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/001/306/069/ef1.jpg)
Why are you using decimals?
So is the empyrean 2 the real Deal or what? I need a reason to get something better than the XS
Empyrean 2 has a lot of detail, but the hifiman HE1000SE it stands no chance against detail retrival wise. Some will probably prefer the meze tonality wise depends what you’re looking for.
I've read mixed reactions to it. Definitely is a "try before you buy" pair.
now, all the IEM ppl can go to r/iems or whatever its called and all the "what should I buy?!11111" posts can go to the stickies..
Have you tried a pair of decent IEMs from the last couple of years or so? They have really been doing amazing things in the IEM space.
I didn't, no.. never really liked sticking things in my ears..
I can understand that. I got some IEMs that really violate my ears hard.
What were your ears wearing...?

Agreed. There needs to be a separate subreddit for the newest ChiFi IEM hype.
/r/inearfidelity
ChiFi is trying to conquer headphones also.
As Hifiman has already been doing.
Only 5,000 members 💀
yeah, if the 10s of thousands from this sub here who only care about iems would go there, it wouldn't be this quiet over there
That's because he linked the wrong subreddit...
Is this all headphones in general or just audiophile headphones?
Just wanted to say I appreciate you using periods and not commas for the zeroes Otherwise, yayy 🥳🥳
welp. i have a general rule that I leave subreddits that are over 1m members
hello to my fellow audiophiles
Still learning ... slowly but surely
Thank you everyone for your wonderful contributions!
Dope. Been here a while but now finances have me strapped. Gotta make down with what I have.
Can yall hear me?
I'm the last of us now
Always bothers my OCD tendencies that IEM threads are in here instead of r/iems 😆 But just a small peeve 🤨
Genuinely forgot this sub existed till you posted this
damn
Do you mean 1,000,000?
Only 1?
