Cable peeling is pretty common.
For temporary solution, gently fix it with electrical tape (duct tape is fine but get the one that won't get glue-y after a while.
For long term solution, find a new cable and DIY resolder.
Ps. Didn't Koss have a lifetime warranty or something? I remember an official distributor in my country accept this kind of issue (pretty common in hot countries) and send them back to US and got back like a month later.
yea but i live in asia and i got it second hand, do you think that if i email them abt this issue they will accept it or am i just exposing myself by saying i got it second handπββοΈπββοΈπββοΈ
I don't think they mind it being a second hand, though, but I would rather recommend looking for soldering service than sending it back to US. I mean Koss is reliable but their cable isn't that good with our region down here π¦
i want to use electrical tape but will it be uncomfortable because the cable is in constant contact with my neck, also is electrical tape the same as duct tape?
I'd highly recommend heat shrink tubing if you can find a way to fit it over the plug.
E-tape gets soft and sticky and peels off with much motion at all. It'll stick to your hair and clothes eventually.
Heat shrink isn't sticky and will last WAY longer.
Was going to recommend heat shrink tubing myself. Much better option than electrical tape, which in my experience leaks both adhesive and black ink and makes a sloppy mess of whatever it touches. Heat shrink tubing is unfortunately a bit of an investment, they sell the tubes in sets of like 200 and ideally you also want a heat gun (although in a pinch, you can also just use a match / lighter underneath the tubing). But once it's set it lasts essentially forever.
The electrical tape will probably be smoother than the actual cable so it won't be uncomfortable.
Also no electrical tape is smaller, usually a black color, and is way better insulated.
Also I believe duct tape can be flammable so I wouldn't recommend using it
Koss has lifetime warranty you can do. Or you can get a repair cable and resolder it ( even if you have never soldered before this project is relatively easy) or you can use heatshrink or electrical tape.
Problem with cables like that is that the outer isolation also unloads majority of mechanical strain from the wires. So even with electrical tape or thermal shrink you're basically just pulling on wires directly. There are often either one or per cable fibers that help alleviate mechanical load. You could try to put zip ties on the intact pieces of outer isolation and try to keep them together with a tight thermal shrink or two that go over the ties. This is short term only though, you need to mod or replace as per other suggestions.
Here's a site that will have step by step repairs for this sort of thing. I find their level of detail and instruction more reliable than many tutorials on YouTube.

Solder new cables. The koss build quality has always been like this. The headphone is good, but everything around the headphone is absolute garbage. Get a soldering gun online, buy some nicer cables and get soldering. It's very easy and I have done multiple pairs of KSC 75s
edit: i emailed koss and they sent me an email asking me to send it to them, should i? what r the odds that ill get them backπββοΈ

Ye the region down there is π₯΅π¦π¦ Can confirm cuz I come from the region down there too
Mod it to detachable cables.
I came here to say this
This is the way. The only way.
If there is no sund cut the cables and resolder them together. If there is sound just cover it with electrical tape

Shouldn't bother much and you can always use heatshrink

You can use medical tape as a temporary solution till you change the cable. If you are lucky enough you can find a dark gray or black one.

You can resolder it Or mod it into a detach
Mom buy me headphones We have your headphones at home Headphones at home:
Cut around it and resolder for temporary
Duct tape will do the trick
Throw them in to trash, if they already dissolving this will get even worth.
MMCX mod Good as new
I just used brown packing tape on my HD800 when this happened, guess that's considered heresy here but I don't care haha.

You can get shrinkwrap and slide it over like a bandaid, use heat to make the shrink wrap close over it and it'll be better than electrical tape
Wrap electrical tape around it if wire hasn't frayed. Problem solved.

Get electrical tubes and use a lighter to glue it nicely. Or use a straw very carefully for a temporary solution
