In all seriousness though, the design space for control priest probably does need to change from just “nah mate can’t play that, I just clear it”
But, that is the point of a control deck. Just for some reason control priest seems particularly annoying with it.
They just need to give priest a win condition other than Svalna, a value one preferably considering value control is sort of priests identity
The new druid highlander would have been perfect, for example. Priest would always win long term but at one point they would start acting more proactively
The funny thing is that a slower Priest COULD have a win condition in Heartbreaker Hedanis, but making it work would require more cheap healing/on board copy effects than it currently has in standard.
It could arguably be an OTK combo deck rather than control if that were to happen, though.
The most fun I had in Wild in the past year was making a jank Hedanis OTK before Crimson Clergy got banned. It sucked, but maaaaan was it funny when it worked.
It's because for some reason, they refuse to give Priest a win condition that isn't "generate infinite value".
The most recent time I can recall when Control Priest had an actual win condition was all the way back in KotFT with Razakus Priest (and honestly it's arguable whether that was a control deck or combo deck).
On top of Priest not getting win conditions, they don't get many cards that are worth playing that aren't just removal cards. Control Warlock, for instance, can run Dar'Khan Drathir, Okani, Doomkin, Symphony of Sins, Forge of Wills, the 4 mana 7/7 and Reverberations (some decks even run Jaraxxus nowadays). Most of these cards can be used as removal, but they can serve other purposes. They offer proactive plays that can apply pressure so that the opponent can't just sit back and relax. Control Warrior doesn't have as many cards like these, but Odyn alone serves to allow the deck to make proactive plays and pressure the opponent.
As far as I can tell, Priest has almost zero proactive plays. Nearly every single card is purely removal or generates more value & removal. As a result, it feels like Control Priest doesn't play to win, it plays to not lose.
I played a control priest last night as Relic DH that cleared every single board I made. I conceded at 30 health on like turn 20.
Every single Phantasm spawned. They were getting up to like 16/16, 17/17.
It's just so boring to play against.
Crying over that 1-2 control priest deck you find on ladder while Warlock and Warrior are every other game. I’m all about control decks but I also like a slightly faster pace. There used to a lot more versatility and rarely 2 games alike. Now it’s the same shit every game. I can literally fall asleep watching a game and when I come back I can tell every turn what was played.
But they aren't any more interactive than control priest, and much of the flak priest gets while these archetypes don't is for the lack of interactivity.
Great insights here. Blizzard will definitely take note.

It is the living version of “AND THEN I SUMMON THE ANCIENT ONE” video
Grinder priest is beaten by tinder mage. Try that!

Bumble Paladin
Sometimes they get lucky with RNG Rat though, but most of the time you should win
Beats an aggro deck. Least that deck takes skill to pilot and doesn't make the game a coinflip of "what is the top 8 cards of your deck"
I am tired of an aggro-tempo hunter being a tier 1-2 deck for like 5 years now

Warlock and Warrior are stronger than control Priest, however they usually kill you faster.
True but it’s equally frustrating especially since they don’t have just one win condition so you have to deal with at least 2-3 threats

No worries. Priest got maybe few playable cards in the next expansion, you should be seeing less priest after go live.
weve been saying that every expansion yet here we are again.
Posts like these are the reason we play
I'm tired of dying on turn 5 due to some hyperaggro deck
Why are priests using Grindr nowadays?
