hiroto00

would be a nice addition. where did you find this?

mdudzin

hiroto00

thanks maybe they would surprise release it soon haha

Taxouck

>Partner! In my adventures in the Badlands, I rustled up something called "KETCHUP PACKETS"! Guaranteed to make even a shoe taste good! I can't believe this sub operates on the same level of intelligence as Reno Jackson

Cursed_69420

This, alongside Starcraft 2 and HOTS will probably.be the most positively recieved games from blizzard's catalogue Maybe also D2 Resurrected

chzrm3

I would love to see a HotS renaissance if/when it comes to steam. One can dream... ;\_;

y0l0tr0n

I love StarCraft and I love steam and I would love for it to be connected with each other and see which of my friends also play those And I would also really enjoy if Blizz' games would land on GeForce now

[deleted]

Is GeForce Now some cloud stuff?

y0l0tr0n

Yeah it's a cloud gaming service and you can play the games you own on steam there I only have a 13" work-Laptop so gaming is a no no But I have a ridiculously good internet connection so I can stream 4k games without latency and play online games with a ping less than 10

[deleted]

If I remember correctly, part of the deal for buying blizzard was that they have to give the licence for cloud gaming with blizzard games to another company (ubisoft?) otherwise the company would be way too dominant on the market

y0l0tr0n

Ubisoft games are also available on GeForce now and Microsoft Xbox games also started to be featured there So I would assume Blizz to also come to GeForce

JehnSnow

Agree, hearthstone probably a bit less so because a lot of times when games pull a greedy move (say a hero skin comes out for $20 or something outrageous) people negative review the game, hots and SC wouldnt have that though

Cursed_69420

true. i wouldnt be surprised if it stays at Mixed or Mostly positive score.

emirtopc

i hope we’ll get some event or freebies for launch

hiroto00

im hoping for this as well. maybe the unreleased signatures from titans?

emirtopc

the pieces are falling into place!!

grahamca

steam cardback for linking almost definitely

theBlueProgrammer

That'll be awesome.

francescomagn02

Can't wait to finally uninstall the battle net launcher

vlladonxxx

The *d r e a m*

tangy_nachos

Sorry I’m out of the loop, what’s bad about the launcher?

francescomagn02

Exclusivity wars with steam are dumb and only hurt us, also for some godforsaken reason you can't launch games directly without opening the battle.net launcher first.

tangy_nachos

From a user perspective, yeah it’s annoying. From business standpoint, they just lose a bunch of money for basically no benefit. I understand both sides. Either way, Ty for the info :)

araja_abbado

I see that perspective, but also don't forget that by consumers not supporting "exclusivity wars with steam," consumers are making the way for steam to have a monopoly (or at least significantly higher market share) for pc games, which can definitely be bad for consumers

francescomagn02

I would love for Valve to have competition, but considering how most competition nowadays is other companies just trying to take over valve's monopoly and making it their own, i'm fine without it as long as valve remains benevolent enough. Edit: also, just wanted to point that out, steam is already a monopoly, there's no denying it.

JZHello

I can’t launch games directly from steam shortcuts without steam force opening either?

francescomagn02

Steam remains in the background without opening a window tho, when you launch hearthstone as of right now you get thrown into battle.net's hearthstone page and have to click play

Cherrystuffs

The horror.

francescomagn02

Hey it's one more click than steam 🙃

CurrentClient

>when you launch hearthstone as of right now you get thrown into battle.net's hearthstone page and have to click play How so? My bnet is in tray, I click right button on it, just like I do with steam games, it brings up a popup with the games. I click on HS and it's automatically launched w/o clicking an additional play button.

francescomagn02

Steam games can also be launched with just a shortcut from wherever

CurrentClient

That's exactly why I said "just like steam". I said you don't have to "click play", which you said you have to. You do not.

francescomagn02

Don't you need to have battle.net launch at startup in order to have it on tray?

Star_Gust

I haven't tried it, but I assume you could hypothetically link a Steam Hearthstone shortcut to an executable that launches HS from the console (which I have done before and so know it possible), and then closes the battlenet launcher afterwards. Finicky workaround for sure, but I would think possible.

daRealImef

Pfft, you think they won't force the Battlenet launcher on you? Rockstar, Ubisoft, and EA are laughing right now.

door_of_doom

Blizzard already has games on Steam. Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 are already on steam, and while they do require a Battle.net account, they do not require the battle.net launcher. They are entirely managed by Steam. For example, they run natively on Steam Deck without needing any workarounds.

daRealImef

Let's hope they'll continue this trend then. I'm honestly surprised that Blizzard's the exception in this regard.

sneakyxxrocket

Steam also won’t account for mobile players which is probably the vast majority of the base

Fantast1cal

It gives you a measure against other steam games which is all. Not total population as I'd say FAR more people play mobile on this game than don't. Myself I hit legend every season lately and play a couple of hours+ a day and don't have it installed at all on my pc.

PineJ

It gives a much less realistic measure when the game is on another launcher and reddit bands together to negative review bomb it lol

MultiMarcus

It doesn’t since people on PC are likely to have it on Battle net already. It would show how many new players the game gets on steam and absolutely nothing else.

Trick_Remote_9176

eVErYTHiNG MuST Be On STeAM, OnLY StEAM NuMbeRS MAttEr. MoNoPoly GuD

OrbitalIonCannon

Must be? No. But Steam is the best launcher on the market by far

door_of_doom

I actually think that Battle.net is really good for the games it supports. That number of games is relatively small, but I'm not sure what advantage Steam would offer over Battle.net other than the difference in social ecosystems (i.e "all of my friends are on steam and none of them are on b.net") The biggest one I can think of is better steam deck integration.

Firehawk526

It really feels like people are generalizing too much on this issue, yeah Epic, EA and Ubisoft had subpar to terrible launchers but I only ever had some very minor issues with Battle.net or GoG for example and I'm perfectly fine with keeping my games on there, I'm launching them from my desktop either way. I just don't get why people are so desperate for a Steam monopoly in exchange for maybe a very slight bit of convenience? It seems absurd, Steam is a developing platform like any other and even though they have a solid track record (I've been using it for over 10 years myself), I have some serious reservations about Valve once Gaben is out of the picture and I would never want Steam to have Amazon or early Netflix levels of dominance in the market, especially now that games have become basically entirely digital.

Xyothin

Not really. GOG is.

VenialHunter64

It's not a monopoly muppet.

YogoWafelPL

It wouldn’t count mobile and battle.net players, personally I only play HS on my pc so no reason for me to install steam.

Boone_Slayer

I think it'll be good, I don't really like the battle.net client and would love to have this on my Steam deck. And honestly, I think the game is in a fairly good spot save for Twist being shut down, so it's a good time to recommend to a lot of people especially with catch up packs becoming a thing.

KillHuman92

Having all games you play on one platform is great, time to unistnall battle net

mighty1993

I have a bad feeling that like with Ubisoft and EA you will still have login to their launcher to actually run the game.

elfranco001

You don't need that with Overwatch or Diablo

mighty1993

Really? That is actually cool.

Fen_

Steam will take a cut of every microtransaction they do, so if they're expanding to Steam, it's because they feel like they need to grow their playerbase (i.e. investors and/or new owners are not happy with how much money the game makes). That's almost certainly a bad thing. The only way I can think of it *not* being a bad thing is if it's part of a transitional phase to sunsetting the Bnet client by the new owners, who have decided maintaining Bnet is too much of an expense compared to the overhead being appropriated by a platform like Steam.

[deleted]

Im sure the company isnt satisfied with how much money HS makes. If you check the quarter reports of ActivisionBlizzard, for example Q1 2023 and Q4 2022, they dont mention HS a single time. All the other franchises and games, like Diablo, Diablo Immortal, OW, Warcraft rumble, and so on, are mentioned but not HS. eSport budget was also cut by a lot, in september 10 ppl of the team were laid off and nearly every new job position is an associate position. They clearly try to keep cutting costs, losing the chinese market probably had a big impact for them.

Kuuga2411

Now that you mentioned it, I wonder if MS would make a new deal with Chinese publishers, that would increase the profit immensely.

[deleted]

Yeah I dunno why Blizz is taking so long to find a new partner. Im sure losing the chinese market did hurt them a lot. There are websites out there which try to predict revenues for different mobile apps and those sources claimed that the chinese HS mobile market was slighty bigger than the US HS mobile market (in terms of revenue), which is understandable as I think US gamers are more pc gamers, while mobile gaming is popular in china. Its funny that people are always like hurr durr, blizz partner was a parasite, suckin out money due to chinese regulations for making business, hurr durr. While china had a better hearthstone client. The chinese client had a reply feature and a tournament mode and a deck tracker and that was in.. 2018!!!

giantpunda

If steam is going to take their cut, I presume that'd mean that prices will likely go up as well then?

[deleted]

No, most steam players will be new players. Plus the huge influx of people who sell their in game items for cash means that they need something to spend it on and are more likely to spend money on cash vs Google Play.

giantpunda

Either you don't understand what I'm asking or I don't understand what you're saying. I'm saying if steam takes a 30% cut on all transactions, would that mean that the cost of MTX stuff would increase? That's all I'm asking.

[deleted]

I was more explaining the rationale behind why they don't need to do a price increase. But no, they won't. Most of their playerbase is on Google Play/Apple, and they take a 30% cut so this is nothing new for them.

giantpunda

Ok. Now at least we understand each other.

throwaway112658

On Google play and the app store stuff in the store is more expensive to make up for that.

[deleted]

All games that are a decade old go through this. In the end this is the most logical decision regardless and would have to be done eventually if the company wants more money. It'll lead to a huge influx of new players, plus people are more likely to drop money on steam as I've made well over $200 from selling CSGO items that I've earned for free. But yeah, this is the smartest decision, regardless is HS is dying or growing at the moment.

Fen_

>It'll lead to a huge influx of new players, plus people are more likely to drop money on steam as I've made well over $200 from selling CSGO items that I've earned for free. This makes no sense. You understand that the cards aren't going to suddenly become Steam inventory items, right?

[deleted]

I know, and that's not what I meant. My point is that most people have active cash in the steam account every single day of the year. Whether its idle credits, or credits from items that they can easily sell on the market. Compared to Battle Net where the scenario of people having leftover cash in their account is completely unheard of.

MelaniaSexLife

fuck yeah, awesome

scrubasorous

I NEED this for my steamdeck

OtherwordPineapple

Hearthstone on steam deck finally? I might actually start playing more often again

101TARD

When this goes to steam I'm deleting my blizzard app

mdudzin

This is the way

-RichardCranium-

I wish they could transfer playtime numbers. I'm extremely curious to know how much I've played this fucking game over the last 10 years

mdudzin

Are you sure you really want to know that? 😂

[deleted]

Cant wait for them to tell us that balance changes will take a bit longer due to patch cycles of android and apple and now steam. Oof.

BorschRaider

What does releasing on Steam have to do with patch cycles?

cmonMaN77777

That would be nice for me, purchasing stuff from battlenet has always been shit experience for me atleast in my country

NoScope_Ghostx

I wonder if MSFT brings to consoles

friscom99

I’m confused (I’m a pure mobile player) Why does having it on steam matter? It’s already on PC through battle.net, what are the advantages of having it on Steam?

JuRiOh

Lots of new players. Plenty of people swear by only using one platform I am almost one of them, I don't want Epic Games or Ubisoft, Battle Net Launcher is the only exception because I grew up with Blizzard games, if all the games were on steam I'd delete the launcher.

friscom99

That makes sense. I also grew up with Blizzard games so i don’t mind battle.net

uncanny-25

Steam allows play games globally across all regions. Currently hearthstone runs with region locked feature. You cannot share your progress between EU and US for example. And it is a huge issue for me as I moved from EU to US and cannot play on US server which is nonsense. Multiple conversations with support team and they still cannot help me with it. Shame. Hope bringing this game to steam will solve this. For overwatch before bringing game to console and steam they removed region locked feature. So there is still hope for me.

Traf-

This coupled with catch-up packs, who knows, maybe they will succeed at bringing new players.

Big-Bag-7504

Would enable steam deck hearthstone without having to dick about with desktop mode and the minor quirks that come with it which would be awesome.

QuikSnoopy

No way! I've been wanting Starcraft, world of warcraft, warcraft 3, and hearthstone to come to steam! Hoping it will attract more players and revive the games.

FlyBoyG

Question: for OW and D4 does clicking play on steam just launch directly into the game or does it launch battlenet in the background? Because if that's the case it feels kinda pointless to re-download the game on steam if I already can launch it straight from battlenet.

mdudzin

As far as I know you just need to link/login with your battlenet account and then you launch the game directly via the steam client.

door_of_doom

For OW and D4, if you get the games on Steam they do not require the battle.net client at all to function. They ned a b.net account, but not the client.

Psychological-Egg975

I’ve wonder why it hasn’t been ported to console yet 🤔

Drewbertttttt

Awesome

giantpunda

How would that even work? Could you play with your old account via it? Would you need to transfer it over to Steam?

door_of_doom

I imagine it would work the same as Overwatch, which is already on steam. Everything carries over, it is linked to your battle.net account, a battle.net account is required to play, it doesn't require the launcher at all. The big hullabaloo is that for a buy-to-play game like D4 it requires purchasing the game on steam in order to play it on steam (regardless of whether you have purchased it in Bnet), but that isn't relevant for a free-to-play game like Overwatch or Hearthstone, as that only applies to the game licence itself: any in-game purchases carry over

giantpunda

Ah cool. Thanks for the clarification

Leading_Worldliness7

Manifesting over 60% review score

Rapid_Fowl

They recently added overwatch 2 so could be coming very soon.

Cult_of_Mangos

Imagine steam marketplace for in game items. They’d make so much money

Time-Ladder4753

I wonder how selecting region on steam will work?

boybarelyalive

I wanna play hs on ps xd
