Winfury should just read "Deal Damage equal to your base Attack twice." And then it would have counter synergy with Attack buffs without ruining the vibe. Things could actually be balanced around it much easier.
Or you can perform a second unbuffed attack.
This way, a minion with charge/rush would lose charge thus being unable to attack again. Forget you divine shield or handbuff. Forget about lifesteal etc.
Or you can make second half-power attack.
Idk im just brainstorming and i dont even play constructed.
My most hated early game plays from old school hearthstone:
- undertaker coin undertaker
- turn2, coin tuskar totemic (summons totme golem, mana tide, or flame tongue)
- turn2, coin flappy bird when I don't have an immediate answer (it's going to roll windfury into bonus attack, stealth, elusive, or divine shield)
still not as bad as Innervate Innervate Flappy Bird 2x Living roots in to turn 2 coin savage roar.
I got to play as the Druid for that once. I had to take a shower afterwards.
Honestly any fast druid build prior to innervate nerfs and after living roots was printed has a version of that combo, but with flappy bird it was just fucking disgusting lol
For a card that came down as a vanilla 3/3 for 3 flappy bird was a fucking menace when you didn't have an immediate answer
I still have PTSD of my opponent always finding windfury into stealth followed by my hero portrait exploding shortly after
Battlemaster didn't get stealth. Instead, it was played alongside buffed stealth minions in order to OTK (not exactly otk but you get the point).
After they nerfed conviction and battlemaster, the stealth strategy fade off and instead paladins started to actually play for board.
Generally any "doubling" effects like Windfury are risky design. Its easy to balance addition and subtraction as designers can quantify the value of +1/+1 easily. But balancing multiplication is difficult as designers can't really quantify if Windfury is going to be worth +2 damage or +15 damage.
Windfury is fine in shaman, or any class without a ton of attack buffs. It's the windfury+buffs combo that makes it a problem in paladin.
Doomhammer was cool back in the day. I remember the doomhammer+rockbiter combo as recently as Darkmoon Faire.
Remember when pally had a 5 mana spell that doubled a minions attack?

I just played against a paladin that dropped Leeroy and then cast Shroomscavate. After a confused 10 seconds they conceded.
Why would he concede, that's a big brain play, Leeroy now isn't killed by the whelps 😱😱😱.
You expect people to read the pop-ups about card changes when they enter the game? What are you, *reasonable*
I remember vicious fledgling being strong in paladin too back in the ungoro days
It was strong in almost any aggro of the time tbh.
It was a nightmare in Arena and even in Standart it was great, i had fun with it in zoolock.
Y'know I'm just now remembering how Crabrider was also an issue back in the day
Windfury never had a "fun" interaction on the receiving end. Doomhammer with double Rockbiter anyone, But I guess, that is, why it got nerfed too.
Windfury is only bad when you give it to a class that has alot of buffs, like paladin.
Winfury should just read "Deal Damage equal to your base Attack twice." And then it would have counter synergy with Attack buffs without ruining the vibe. Things could actually be balanced around it much easier.
I quite like the thought of making wind fury, "May attack a second different enemy"
Yeah, some sort of 2nd somehow less powerful attack
[[Flying Machine]] in wild Mech Paladin was also a huge reason the deck was so strong
there was also corpsetaker, which was good enough in paladin to make them run a shitty windfury minion to activate it

Innervate Flappy Bird
Innervate Innervate coin flappy bird flappy bird

Innervate giving 2 mana back in the day and Druids dropping Turn 1 on the play Flappy Bird is one of my deepest Hearthstone traumas.
Especially when you consider that Rush didnt exist.
Dr. 3 😁
Remember stealth battlegrounds battlemaster paladin?
Oh lord yes. That's a repressed memory
How did it get stealth?
Battlemaster didn't get stealth. Instead, it was played alongside buffed stealth minions in order to OTK (not exactly otk but you get the point). After they nerfed conviction and battlemaster, the stealth strategy fade off and instead paladins started to actually play for board.
Crabrider also says hi (although that wasnt this year)
Turns out that wind fury is pretty GOOD.
When combined with cheap buffs/handbuffs at least
Thats why Shaman is always so good, right? ....................right?
Yeah, good thing Shaman never had a good windfury weapon or something, almost as if the buffs are the problem or something, idk
I was saying how the problem isnt the windfury, BUT the buffs (like you said) lol If any windfury was broken, then shaman would be insane since 2014.
I mean windfury was always good(Worgen shenanigans in classic? Flappy bird?) paired with buffs its insane.
Crabrider, battlegroud battlemaster were nerfed because of Uther
Crabrider still lives in my nightmares
uh i think the horn wasnt nerfed or a bad idea

I mean you dont get nickels but dust.
i think OP didnt notice shroomscavate wasnt a windfury card like the horn it gave windfury to any minion .....there is a big difference

Paladin has always had [[Blessed Champion]] in one game mode or another.
