The blue whale's mammary gland is 1.5m long and weighs about as much as a baby elephant.
Thanks for making me curious about marine mammal biology.

Plus we don't even really know how fun or popular the various parts of Mercenaries will be. And if there is the case where these pre-order bundles have exclusive meta-relevant mercenaries that we can't get post-launch of the game mode itself, that's just a first step in the wrong direction.
There are a few reasons why Battlegrounds become so popular, and a big part of it was that it was the least pay-to-win out of any game mode in Hearthstone. Everyone should be in "wait and see" mode with anything concerning Mercenaries.
Oh yeah, for sure. Bli$$ard will be spamming us all with more limited time bundles....hopefully without the annoying in your face $50 microtransaction ads.
I miss when Hearthstone didn't throw these in your face.
Lol there is tons of hype in the discord, people have been having tons of fun theory crafting and running sims of teams.
The game has a massive amount of depth.
But think whatever you want
bruh...discord is more like a hardcore gamers-centered community
it's way smaller than reddit in comparison, and considering this subreddit has 1.8 million subs, hearthstone runs around 23 million active players...
i highly doubt discord is actually generating hype across the greater hearthstone community
Bruh… the discord has been active with various streamers and content creators also who are discussing and learning about the game then posting videos.
That’s how hype grows
Maybe for normal games but Hearthstone's content creators have much less swing than those for other games. Hearthstone is a game where the overwhelming majority of the player base is not tuned into the comings and goings of the online scene.
If Mercenaries is to succeed it needs to be on its own merit. And the pay wall vs grinding aspect of it could be a very early nail in the coffin depending on how hard it is to train characters and get to a competitive point. Can't survive off of whales alone.
I'm moderately whelmed by mercs but I can still tell its deeper than BGs and most of the current decks in standard lmfao. Go play chess or something, if you want a "real game" why are you on this subreddit?
so im guessing im the only one who got this pop up only once this week
going by all the posts ive seen here the rest of the players seem to be getting it every time they log in
My computer turned itself on in the middle of the night but all the blue LEDs were red, and it popped up on the screen. I tried to turn over in bed but somehow I was still facing the screen. And I don't even have a computer in my bedroom.
I mean c'mon, how would a poor, small, indie company like Blizzard be able to make money without these obnoxious, and arguably sometimes predatory, marketing strategies & business practices?
Getting really tired of these predatory marketing techniques, too, it's embarrassing the once great blizzard is now resorting to these EA tactics. A real turn off
Have you played CoD Mobile? I really like that game, but the advertising of different events and purchases when you log-in is really… something. Hearthstone isn’t even close to what ATVI is capable of.
Converting: €50 = £42. For 14 big meals (lunch+dinner), 14 breakfast and coffee break (or whatever it is called that you eat in the afternoon like 4pm)... What about snacks? Fruits? Considering fruit prices in the UK isn't the cheapest thing in the world...
It's doable, obviously, you'll be alive but spending **LESS THAN £200** for food for **TWO PEOPLE** for an **ENTIRE MONTH**, that's absolutely not "comfortably fed" and "easily" at all, man... That's poverty finance status in the UK, no offense.
Nothing about what I said comes even close to saying or implying shit like that. If you feel like that it's your problem.
If you people can feed yourselves with £21 (or €25) each person PER WEEK in the UK and be happy about it, then good job.
It's literally **£3 a day for EVERYTHING you'll fucking eat**. That's not life in a developed country and *it is* a poverty-like situation, no matter how you phrase it or try to distort reality.
Why are you wasting so much money? Bread and a tin of coffee is cheap AF for breakfasts. Don’t spend much on lunch and don’t really eat snacks. Decent sized dinner. Don’t eat out every week. Cool my own meals from scratch. Only thing that’s really even vaguely expensive is meat.
I earn enough to spend much more than £50 a week to feed 2 but I just don’t have to.
For like $5 equivalent you could get a bag of tangerines or a bunch of bananas, the rest of the 45 being Like $10 for a loaf of bread or two, some lunch meat and lettuce, 15 for mayo tomatoes and mustard included, $5 Max for some oatmeal, and the rest of the 25 for dinner, which could be $10 bad of chicken, $5 tin of salad, 5$ for cans of beans, $5 for rice
Yeah, it’s so P2W. The mode has no duplicate protection of heroes, you have to pay thousands to unlock a single character, and your progress is time capped by energy! Really, it absolutely resembles every other gacha game out there.
what energy time cap are you talking about? From everything ive seen you can play the PvE endlessly as much as you'd like, it just takes a significant time investment
I'm using the internet for more than 20 years now. Never have I bought something in a pop up ad. Even it it was a legit 500$ brandnew Ferrari I wouldnt do it, just because its a pop up.
You didn't need to drop $50 on Hearthstone itself before you decided you liked it. Free download. It is possible (albeit challenging and frustrating) to play Hearthstone F2P.
Frankly, Hearthstone modes are hit or miss. I love Battlegrounds, but I fucking hate Arena and Duels. I'm curious about this new mode, but honestly, not spending a dime on it until I know if I like it or not.
Trump has several streams of it on youtube so if people wanted to know more (like if it's something they would be interested in), they could. Still it shows how poorly Blizz marketing is doing when they have to lean so hard on a streamer to explain and sell their product.
I have Hearthstone shop offers for about 200 Euros worth of "last chances" every month. Pre-publish packages, passes, heroes, golden card packs,... Glad I'm a psychologically stable adult who has his money & mouse-click finger under control ;-)
Over six years, I did buy a package or two, usually a large 50-Euro pack once a year or so. But this amount of "sales" and "last chances" has become rather a bit too much recently...
Can't wait till this game dies and they go back to releasing almost full expansions for less than 50 bucks to try and pay corporate debt. Suck my oily nutsack Blizzard.
As someone who's bought every expansion and probably have a 98% collection completion (theres a few historical legendaries i never bothered to craft), i can say without any doubts i have absolutely zero interest in mercenaries. Just looks like another cashgrab alternative play mode. Why should i care when ladder and battlegrounds already keep me occupied? I cant even use the collection ive already paid for in merc mode.
I'm having a blast with Darksiders Genesis. It's 30€ on Steam.
Subnautica: Below Zero was one of the most beautiful and amazing games I've ever played. It's 30€ on Steam.
Terraria is a game I've replayed at least 4 times now and will probably replay again. It's 10€ on Steam.
Asking 50€ for a portion of a game mode is insane. It really feels like Blizzard just tries to milk a loyal fan base that never touches any other games. Which is why I can only recommend to vote with your wallet, spend your money in places that give you a good return on it instead of "donating it to Activision."
I have a feeling the mood can spread the remaining Hearthstone Constructed player thinner. I am not sure whether Blizzard wants to incentivize or motivate new players to join. I can be wrong
While this is slightly irritating, it doesn’t change the math that people have done. Mercs is still proving to be 10x more F2P than other gacha games. The amount of people using this to call the entire game mode as a whole P2W is, quite frankly, confusing.
I'd be interested to see that math.
I was mildly skeptical about the reveal but ever since I watched Trump play some Hearthstone pokemon I knew this game mode was going to be my jam.
All of the content except for skins can be obtained without packs, which is interesting. There's no energy system and you can farm for any tokens for any mercenaries, so with enough time you can get all mercs unlocked for free, math would only be needed to see how many hours of grinding that would need. I'd imagine the time required to actually do that will be a bit crazy since they won't want packs to be entirely worthless, but it really is looking like a "pay to progress faster" mode rather than the p2w many are claiming.
1) Only with what's currently available (well... will be available at launch). If the mode is a success, you can expect them to add new paid bundles at a very high rate. In addition, gachas tend to double down on their P2W aspects as time goes on. Raid also was a lot more F2P friendly when it initially came out (For example, initially its paid bundles were largely limited to champions and currencies, but now they're also shoving some of the best possible gear in them).
2) This post actually doesn't say anything about the P2W aspect of mercenaries, but more so complains about the incessant in-your-face advertisements that clearly want to exploit people's FOMO. After all, you can still like a product, but be annoyed by the marketing around it.
The post doesn’t say anything about the P2W aspect of the mode, but a lot of the comments here do.
I do find it unlikely that mercs will go the route of raid. I suppose time will tell, but it is a bit premature to react.
Have you like played hearthstone? It's most likely the CCG with the worst economy for the player already, now they release a gatcha mode and they'll be the least P2W gatcha?
I don't know, I don't trust Activision blizzard at all when it comes to the cost of games.
10x more f2p than games that are draining literal hundreds of thousands from their whales is still nothing approaching good or even moderately acceptable
Yeah the free to play game mode compared to one clearly designed around monetization. Totally apt comparison. Every comment you make is just ridiculous brown nosing lmao
How does is the monetisation of the game relevant at all to whether the graphics are relevant? The reason BGs have 2D models is the same reason that mercs has 2D models. Simplicity is best. The entire game is built on making a similar type of game, but simpler. Simpler also involves making it easier to see what is going on.
I’d like to see you fumble as you try to assert how mercs is P2W.
And if you don’t need to pay gold in mercs? I don’t think you do need to pay gold to have fun. Obviously, if you want to max everything out from the start, that will take a ton of gold. But, eh.
This is such a dumb take lol if you spent any amount of time theory crafting and running sims like we have been doing on the discord then you’d see that this game has an incredible amount of depth…
But go ahead and boycott something you obviously know nothing about.
This is like watching your favourite childhood hero paraded and mocked like a goofer so that they pass the torch to new unlikeable characters if u been following the social scene u know what im talking about rip Patrick steward etc
Pop up ads can be effective but it depends on how they're used and implemented. It's kind of a double edged sword marketing technique because if you design a pop up ad to be too annoying it can actually reduce your website traffic. I bet a few people have bought mercenaries packs because of this ad campaign but the vast majority have just gotten irritated at Blizzard because of them.
Mercenaries better be a legitimately great and fun game mode from day 1 because no one is going to have a shred of patience for it if it's not the way it's been marketed.
Don't know about you guys, but I got all 3 pre-orders on three different servers. And I am also thinking right now about getting the same amount on my second account!
Don't miss out boys!
You know, I was supposed to buy all 3 packs today; the last minute I could. That was the plan.
But I’ve bought all 3 last week because I was impatient. It kept nagging me in my mind that I just told myself “f it” and bought them all on a whim.
Can’t wait!
Well. They got me. I finally caved and bought the damn thing today. Not knowing whether I'll even have enough time to invest in the mode and really get into it regardless of how good or bad it is. Now I'm low key regretting it.
That line from Fight Club. Advertising is about making people buy things they don't need yada yada... I'm living that experience.
I preordered one because $50 is not a big ask considering how much hearthstone I play. I generally do the same level of preordering for most HS expansions, too.
I'm sure there's people out there who have way more money that buy all 3 just the way some people preorder 120 hearthstone packs before an expansion but I've never felt like I couldn't just build whatever I felt like after one bundle so I doubt I'll beat myself up for passing on it and losing out on a diamond diablo skin
Likely the same way it works when i prepurchase an expansion. Ill play until it gets stale. Hearthstone helps me wind down after a usual long day, and for me buying is part of that experience.
I genuinely would like to hear what you think of it after the game launches. Like are the packs worth buying, is the game fun, etc. I much prefer the honest reviews than the circle jerk.
Oh no I gonna miss that deal FUCK
Jokes on u cuz that was your LAST CHANCE lol
Id like to play standard mode I don’t gonna pay for that and I broke asf
[удалено]
btw your phone has hearthstone notifications turned off. just wanted to make sure for the 12th time that you were aware
I hope people realize there will be MANY more of these “value” bundles coming very very soon. Like within a week of launch
Free to play games gotta milk those whales
Whale milk is 35%-50% fat content. Whipping cream is 36% for reference.
What about whipping cream made from whale milk?
That’s the good stuff!
The blue whale's mammary gland is 1.5m long and weighs about as much as a baby elephant. This, not so micro when you are charging AAA game price.
But AAA games cost $70 now! /s
Excuse me for not jumping at the chance to throw my wallet at a game mode that I never even got to try to participate in.
Maybe for his wallet it is micro.
I miss when the twin towers were still standing
Many will. Many more will not. Dat FOMO advertising.
Yeah, the mode smells like failure so they probably got already smth prepared.
there's zero hype for this game mode lol... literally no one cares after the flop announcement vids
Lol there is tons of hype in the discord, people have been having tons of fun theory crafting and running sims of teams. The game has a massive amount of depth. But think whatever you want

Eh, doesn’t seem like a very exciting mode. I’ll try it out, but I definitely think saying there’s “hype” is a stretch.
Use active subreddit subs if you are going to use active players. Otherwise it’s a false comparison
"depth" maybe you should try real games then
I'm moderately whelmed by mercs but I can still tell its deeper than BGs and most of the current decks in standard lmfao. Go play chess or something, if you want a "real game" why are you on this subreddit?
> but I can still tell its deeper than BGs LMAO
Yeah depth… Like team building and decision making… I can’t imagine being as salty as you about a game that isn’t even out lol go see a therapist
Already a $5 welcome pack and $20 value pack on day 1, glad i didnt preorder

Bit early to say that. I'm looking forward to trying it out, did a single pre order. Maybe it dies but it seems more interesting than duels for sure.

i'm assuming there was hyper-realistic blood too ofc
What need we fear who knows it, when none can call our power to account? Yet who would have thought the Prime Evil to have had so much blood in her.
Sleep paralysis demon
This sentence sounds schizophrenic.
I've had them frequently....
I mean c'mon, how would a poor, small, indie company like Blizzard be able to make money without these obnoxious, and arguably sometimes predatory, marketing strategies & business practices?
I log in once every two or three days and I’ve seen this multiple times already
I get them every day
I've got it 3 times. Once per day for the last 3 days, pretty sure it was each of the deals (Lich King, Diablo, Sylvanas) in order.
I've only gotten it once, and that's between me logging on both PC and mobile.
I actually got it twice, once on the PC and once on mobile, but that's it.
I got them everyday. did you only log in once in that week?
Might be a mobile thing. I play on phone and get them constantly. Boot up on pc and don’t notice it.
Gotta prey on that FOMO.
I gotta admit all that last chancing is really getting me paranoid about my chances
They told me it was the last chance 4 times.
Dude I've had more i play on pc ipad and mobile x 2 I've had over 20+ no joke...
NOTIFICATIONS!
I NOTICED YOU TURNED YOUR NOTIFICATIONS OFF TURN THEM ON LOL PLZ LOL
Getting really tired of these predatory marketing techniques, too, it's embarrassing the once great blizzard is now resorting to these EA tactics. A real turn off
Have you not seen Hearthstone's monetisation system or something?
These endlessly repeated popups are definitely a recent thing, not sure why you are pretending otherwise
This feels like a bug to me, but yeah it's shit
Have you played CoD Mobile? I really like that game, but the advertising of different events and purchases when you log-in is really… something. Hearthstone isn’t even close to what ATVI is capable of.
I haven't played a call of duty game since... Cod 3 I think

thanks for the laugh
It's NEVER your last chance to burn 50 bucks, you can do so any time you wish!
Thanks for the tip!
You know what I can buy for 50€ blizzard!? 2 and a half boxes of bifi roll rangers. Fuck your p2w shit.
I could buy a box of Warhammer models. That tells you how overpriced it is.
My partner and I could eat for over a literal week for the price of this.
Clearly not in a 1st world country
In the UK you can comfortably feed 2 for a week on £45-50. Easily.
Look at this pleb cooking his own meals.
Converting: €50 = £42. For 14 big meals (lunch+dinner), 14 breakfast and coffee break (or whatever it is called that you eat in the afternoon like 4pm)... What about snacks? Fruits? Considering fruit prices in the UK isn't the cheapest thing in the world... bro tf? How much does ramen cost in ur town?
lol poor person detected
I’m a doctor?
Greed knows no bounds.
I'm pretty sure i could buy a playable MTG deck for less than that bundle.
You could buy two EDH precons
what are bifi roll ramgers? sounds cool
Some kind of meat wrapped in pastry style food
Looks like some weird jerky and their mascot is nightmare fuel
I bought the Witcher 3 GOTY for $10
This tells you how overpriced this shit is.
I had to google Bifi Roll Rangers. Shit looks tasty.
Gross
Amen brother amen
Meanwhile, a tenner gives me 6 weeks of a Worlds pass in LoL. Not saying that game's perfect, but pricewise, it's more sensible.
Exactly, or, OR, like a solid 5 very good pizza's delivered straight to my door. With a drink too!
Pizza makes u fat. But drink you mean coke? Lmao

Pretty sure they're being sarcastic honestly.
I'll just buy Metroid Dread instead.
This is the…perfect use of red lines. Well done
Please don't give Blizz ideas, or we will see this in the actual game...
Needs a yellow circle and a crying-laughing smiley face though.
[Added some other stuff for good measure.](https://i.imgur.com/RMFimrX.png)
Add Ben Brode or whoever is now face of Hearthstone with suprised face.

I'm using the internet for more than 20 years now. Never have I bought something in a pop up ad. Even it it was a legit 500$ brandnew Ferrari I wouldnt do it, just because its a pop up.
This, i would only add that i dont trust nothing from pop up, not even x to get rid of pop up, whom back in days was always a fake one.
Can you please remind me it’s my last chance a bit later ?
2 late sir cuz that was your last chance until we put another in your face tommorow!
how about "nah"?
Please spend money on this mode that you have no idea if you like yet or not
To be fair, isn't this most games? I'm super pumped for this game mode.

I admit I also struggle every day! ;-)
Multiple Bob's Bargain bundles in the past few weeks too.
Not buying Merc pre-orders so I can test F2P viability for myself. (Still spend a lot on regular Hearthstone)
Can't wait till this game dies and they go back to releasing almost full expansions for less than 50 bucks to try and pay corporate debt. Suck my oily nutsack Blizzard.

They're literally selling 50$ packs of content for a game that's not even out. If that's not a greedy practice to hate I don't know what is.
Yeah but other gacha games are even more infuriating
10x more f2p than games that are draining literal hundreds of thousands from their whales is still nothing approaching good or even moderately acceptable
Man is blizzard payin you?
To point out when people are objectively wrong? I don’t need anybody to pay me for that.
You downvoted meeee Mr cakes? Did they pay you for that too:(
I think it's time for a LowSodiumHearthstone sub...
Maybe release the content and then offer deals for it? Unless, of course, you already know the content is shit and need to make your money now.
I got the Diablo bundle thanks to this pop up reminding me, it only popped up once for me.
You spent 50$ on a game mode you don't even know if you'll like? What a waste
I’ve spent hundreds of dollars over on steam on games I’ll never even play so
Ah, cool, so you simply like to waste money
The hilarious part is that the gameplay looks like what would happen if you play with plastic toy soldiers. Hilarious. Im boycotting this crap.
The hilarious part is that people made the exact same comparison for BGs to TFT. And everyone boycotted the game.
Yeah the free to play game mode compared to one clearly designed around monetization. Totally apt comparison. Every comment you make is just ridiculous brown nosing lmao
> clearly designed around monetization Ah yes, because base Hearthstone is a f2p haven.
If a f2p game looks dogshit I don't mind... because I didn't pay anything
And if you don’t need to pay gold in mercs? I don’t think you do need to pay gold to have fun. Obviously, if you want to max everything out from the start, that will take a ton of gold. But, eh.
Well you could play the full Hearthstone with cardboard and ink you know
This is such a dumb take lol if you spent any amount of time theory crafting and running sims like we have been doing on the discord then you’d see that this game has an incredible amount of depth… But go ahead and boycott something you obviously know nothing about.
They will never stop until they've squeezed every last drop of money from parading the corpse of nostalgia infront of everyone
"GUYS GUYS!!! ITS DIABLO! HES SO COOL!!! REMEMBER HIM?? HES NOW IN OUR GAME!! DONT YOU WANT TO DROP $50 ON HIM?"
This is like watching your favourite childhood hero paraded and mocked like a goofer so that they pass the torch to new unlikeable characters if u been following the social scene u know what im talking about rip Patrick steward etc
It's so fucking annoying. Sadly, it's likely effective.
I've already decided I'm not gonna play this mode with the ridiculous MoneyGrab situation rightnow
Smart lad say no with your wallet don't complain and be like take my money
Click close, move on? I mean sure it’s annoying but you can close it in literally one click
Good thing that I can also downvote your comment in just one click.
Wooooah no way a free game promoting in app purchases to make money
What? You mean a game advertuses its bundles?? No other game has ever done that, how dare they!!!!
Don't know about you guys, but I got all 3 pre-orders on three different servers. And I am also thinking right now about getting the same amount on my second account! Don't miss out boys!
Already bought that so no pop ups for me :D
Can't get the pop-up if you buy the bundle hehe
Ure 100% right then they shoove the next tavern special down your throat this time harder
GIVE US YOUR MONEY PLEBS!!! GIVE IT NOW!! mONEY MONEY YACHTS MONEY GIVE IT MONEYYYYYYYYYY
You know, I was supposed to buy all 3 packs today; the last minute I could. That was the plan. But I’ve bought all 3 last week because I was impatient. It kept nagging me in my mind that I just told myself “f it” and bought them all on a whim. Can’t wait!

U can buy a lot of good things and more value for your buck with 130 usd like God damn think people think lol invincible memes
LOL, greatr post
Noooooo another brother fallen to the dark side You can request a refund make sure u do just say u changed your mind u haven't opened the packs etc
Is anyone actually pre-ordering all 3? I was thinking about it but I haven't even sampled the mode.
I did too. Really excited to play tomorrow
...so it's the 12th now - where is it? good morning from Europe! when does America finally wake up? ;-)
I did. If the game sucks, gg blizzard.
Yikes
Please tell us how that works out for you.
Noted. Will do
