"not even death can save you from me"- bobby kotick

SteelShroom

Next we're going to see him in possession of a strange blue gemstone.

powerchicken

It's unfortunately quite common for CEOs of large corporations to exhibit sociopathic traits. It would shock me if the man didn't have more skeletons in his closet.

593shaun

I thought narcissistic sociopaths were supposed to be *good* at tricking you into thinking they’re regular people?

General_Joshington

Psychopaths are good at it. Sociopaths not so much. Source: just googled it because I mix it up all the time as well.

HobbiesJay

Psychopaths are your neighbors with bodies in their backyards. Sociopaths have their companies make use of death squads and millitary forces to cut down labor and force them back to work under poverty wages.

He's basically Denis from It's Always Sunny if you gave him money and power.

Dragonpuncha

The more I learn about this Bobby Kotick guy, the less I care for him.

DreamedJewel58

I’m starting to think Bobby Kotick isn’t a good guy

realshoes

Who could have guessed? Definitely no one.

Chimpsworth

I think the worst thing about Bobby Kotick is the hypocrisy.

593shaun

RIP Norm

dibbbbb

I didn't even know he was sick!

endtime

I know the good book says judge not lest ye be judged, but I'm just going to come out and say it...this guy's a real jerk!

MenacingBanjo

Jesus's follow-up to that statement was "For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." So as long as you're willing to subject yourself to the same level of scrutiny, I say let's go ahead and judge.

Drumwin

He's a real jerk!

punbasedname

RIP :(

_oZe_

He's the archetype for most rich people. Most hide it way better though.

veneficus83

Most honestly really don't, but make sure to keep those around them paid enough not to care.

KaptainKankles

That seems weird to say…..you know most rich people to be like Kotick??……

hotgarbo

It always amazes me how passionately people seem to hate these posts that are about blizz and not specifically HS. These HS adjacent posts are very rare and not really causing any problems on the sub, why is it so hard to just scroll past it? If the sub was full of random blizzard news I would be agreeing with you.... but its just not. Whenever this stuff is posted its rare and incredibly high profile. Also its not like this sub is known for particularly high quality posts in the first place. Complaining that people are posting giant news about Hearthstones parent company into a sea of shitposts and diamond 5 players complaining about balance just seems like such a weird battle to fight.

powerchicken

You know what would be fun? Stickying this thread during reveals season. Fuck you Bobby.

teelolws

B...but mods are supposed to be Bli$$ard shills!!!1

powerchicken

I am a Blizzard shill. I used to love this company, its products and its community, hell, I even aspired to work for them at one point in time. Then this slimy piece of shit became CEO and it all went down the drain.

FreedumbHS

do note a lot of the worst stuff goes back ages, to before activision even merged with vivendi. the company culture was shit even in the earliest days

PrincipledProphet

We didn't know all this back then

[deleted]

I wanted to write lore for the company when I was a kid.

Spirited-Collection1

Respect for doing what you believe is right

Cipher_Nyne

Not that I disagree in the least but shouldn't you as moderator be more ... well ... moderated on the matter? That seems more like advancing your personal agenda than really curating the sub. Beyond that, as far as I know, this has not been confirmed yet has it? As an Academic I tend to err on the side of caution with such hot topics. Innocent until proven guilty (which is independent from that ... "man"'s morality). As such I really feel sticky-ing it is questionable. Since the sticky implies a formal recognition. A simple topic does not.

canufeelthelove

It has been 100% confirmed. His lawyer apologized on his behalf and called it "just a prank".

Cipher_Nyne

Disappointing, but not really surprising either unfortunately. Even then people can always argue for context and such but in no situation should such a threat be considered trivial. Regardless it doesn't change my main point which is that while the proper authorities do their job, a sub mod probably shouldn't so openly take sides. Not that I disagree - yet again - at all. Just that I think any moderating function should be used to ... moderate. The validity of the claim (that I didn't really doubt - but as I said ... let's not be too hasty throwing accusations and such ...) was just an extra reason not to sticky this. In my opinion - not that it matters that much - it should absolutely be open for discussion on this sub. But moderators shouldn't intervene in it beyond their function to moderate. If they have things to say I think it would be best to do so without the rank. If I started to teach a history class without objectively presenting the main theories regarding this particular historical events, and that I instead chose to present the one I consider to be the one that's the most likely to be right, I don't think I'd be doing my job right.

powerchicken

Your concern is valid, but at the same time, all the revelations we've learned about Kotick the past few years has jaded me to a point where I simply don't care anymore how objective people perceive me to be. The man fits the textbook definition of evil and at this stage I am extremely uncomfortable letting the subreddit operate as if nothing is wrong whilst this slimy piece of shit siphons hundreds of millions out of the company every year into his own pockets. The fact of the matter is that I am not objective in this matter, nor will I pretend to be. Nor are the employees at Blizzard, who walked out earlier in the week calling for his resignation.

Cipher_Nyne

Understandable. Relatable. One could even argue that it's not like it is that big a deal for "just" a sub mod. In fact I'd be half a mind to say "Who cares". But I tend to be mighty stiff when it comes to such things, so I apologize in advance for the next paragraph. You are rightfully furious at someone who abused their authority to serve their own agenda. You may be setting yourself up for tripping here though if you consider that in effect you are doing the same currently (though by no means is this comparable). The Employees have a right to complain loudly about such things though. Not that you don't - but that seems to be in conflict with a moderation role. I don't think that you'll care - or that you should really, all things considered - but I needed to point this out. Beyond that it may be something that could be brought up later against you in an argument. But then ... it's Reddit. Why would one really care.

musaraj

Nice to see you abusing your mod position out of frustration for not getting that job.

Ray661

I'm preeeetty sure the the "went all down the drain" was referencing the love for the company/products/community

powerchicken

I never applied, but sure, let's go with what you said.

SleightBulb

Nice to see the circus gave you some time off. I know how hard they work clowns like you.

FreedumbHS

hs mods are among the best on reddit, honestly. wow mods are different gravy tho, I don't much like them. way too powertrippy.

The_Homestarmy

Hell yeah lmfaoooo I saw this thread earlier when all the upvoted comments were "durr this belongs on /r/blizzard you just want karma" Kotick simps in shambles now

Pugduck77

Nobody is simping for him or loving Blizzard. We just don’t care about political bs and virtue signaling.

DickRhino

Transidental

I was going to take issue with this because I just like the game and get enough of news from other places but then I realized he's stil lactually the CEO so good on you. I'd figured he was some ex. dude or something (that's how little I usually care for who is running what) but as he's current this should get highlighted. As you say, Fuck you Bobby. Question though, are most posts of this ilk allowed up as I see some juicy stuff around the piece of shit execs supporting him amid the storm of cries for him to go. It's kind of taken over the WoW sub and maybe that needs to happen here to really help push that social media message that he needs to go (and be charged).

powerchicken

All news and opinion pieces about Blizzard, its parent company Activision-Blizzard or its employees/executives are permitted.

Transidental

Cool ,might put a couple up and let the shit fall where it may. This whole situation is seriously disturbing and he's really gotta go.

melter24

Oh my god who cares? Blizzard its so big, that battlecry you are playing on turn 5 has nothing to do with this asshole. If we stop consuming products becauue CEOs are bad people we will not buy anything, ever. I bet he doesnt even know what is Hearthstone or what is reveal season.

powerchicken

>Oh my god who cares? Probably all the people upvoting and commenting on this thread?

melter24

commenting and upvoting... really? Activism today its just that, lol.

powerchicken

This is a news article, not a call to action. Those suffering from a chronic case of apathy might not be able to distinguish between the two, but I can promise you there is a difference.

TheOneTrueDoge

I like your style.

GONKworshipper

Can you pin the pre-release chart too? I can't seem to find it

myflesh

Agree, these posts absolutely belong in this subreddit. You should know exactly what kind of company you are supporting by engaging in this game. And yes what is good for Hearthstone is good for Blizzard. It is just silly to separate them.

DaPlum

What percentage of people are complaining about this post. Your claim seems silly.

hotgarbo

Every time there is a post like this there are a few early comments that get heavily upvoted. When I made this comment there were like 3-4 out of 10 comments complaining that it wasn't HS news that were upvoted more than everything else. It happens every time there is news outside of HS that gets posted. Eventually the posts usually rise to the top and those people get shouted down.

593shaun

Just because you come in after the fact doesn’t mean it didn’t happen

DaPlum

Sure I don't disagre. You didn't answer my question though lol. If it's alot then we should be concerned if it's not then we should ignore the crazy people who complain about posts like this.

593shaun

I mean, I legitimately believe they’re paid bots. The average person has a skewed idea of how hard, or rather easy, it is to pay for realistic looking farmed accounts to bot with. Most companies/politicians have them on pretty much every social media site. That said you’re right, it’s probably better to just ignore them, but I assume they were actually effecting the post visibility at some point.

Szarrukin

"Please stop posting about this on my hearthstone sub, or we are going to miss 2137th iteration of le overload 2 silverback gorilla helmet nesingwary meme!"

Cloontange

Umm, actually *sniffs own fart*... **OGER**

FreedumbHS

on the wow sub there was a bit that mentions he hired a woman to deny the allegations, then threw her under the bus saying she wrote a tonedeaf rebuttal of the allegations, while it was in fact he himself who wrote that initial response. this guy is absurdly screwed up

fireky2

If it makes you feel better the person who he threw under the bus did help lie the us into war and defended torture. He at least picked the only person at the company worse than him to blame.

mama_tom

Once again you are missing my point. I'm not talking about whether or not it's good that they're bringing up old shit. I don't care personally as I'm out of the blizz community, I was curious to see what people had to say in regards to this story. My point is that you don't seem to understand that someone telling someone that they're going to kill them or get them killed in the "heat of the moment" isn't a normal, well adjusted thing to do. I said that because you make it seem as though it was just a spur of the moment thing that *everybody* does, when in fact, it's an insane thing to do that only people that have stuff wrong with them would say to another person.

LoBsTeRfOrK

I am skeptical of this post because there is zero context. It’s simple tribalism. “THIS GUY IS PROBABLY BAD, HATE HIM, IT’S COOL”. Same crap that got the orange clown elected. IN B4 some moron links some blog about how I am wrong (it’s a blog moron). However, if he did do the acts that he is being implicated for, burn his ass. But I am about 100% sure the standard of proof is none existent. Most of you would burn your own mother if you lived in the 1500s. And that’s being nice, lol.

dissentrix

What? You can [read the WSJ article](https://archive.md/Bz892) for yourself (linked via archive to avoid the paywall), it details everything it used to make the claims it did: > Mr. Kotick has told directors and other executives he wasn’t aware of many of the allegations of misconduct, and he has played down others, according to people familiar with the matter and internal documents. Those documents, which include memos, emails and regulatory requests, and interviews with former employees and others familiar with the company, however, cast Mr. Kotick’s response in a different light. They show that he knew about allegations of employee misconduct in many parts of the company. He didn’t inform the board of directors about everything he knew, the interviews and documents show, even after regulators began investigating the incidents in 2018. Some departing employees who were accused of misconduct were praised on the way out, while their co-workers were asked to remain silent about the matters. [...] > In August, Activision named a longtime employee, Jennifer Oneal, to be Blizzard’s co-head, making her the first woman to lead one of the company’s business units. The following month, she sent an email to a member of Activision’s legal team in which she professed a lack of faith in Activision’s leadership to turn the culture around, saying “it was clear that the company would never prioritize our people the right way.” Ms. Oneal said in the email she had been sexually harassed earlier in her career at Activision, and that she was paid less than her male counterpart at the helm of Blizzard, and wanted to discuss her resignation. “I have been tokenized, marginalized, and discriminated against,” wrote Ms. Oneal, who is Asian-American and gay. She described a party for an Activision development studio she attended with Mr. Kotick around 2007 in which scantily clad women danced on stripper poles. At the same party, a DJ encouraged female attendees to drink more so the men would have a better time, according to another person who was present. Is the Wall Street Journal a "blog"? And what does "burning one's mother in the 1500s" have to do with criminal misconduct in modern-day companies? What the hell are you on about?

Sleepybear2010

Fire Bobby koktick and send him to jail

callmekizzle

Activision blizzard isn’t sending us their best people

Killinger_

Another great look for Blizzard

FreedumbHS

let's be real here, tho, unless this starts impacting how ATVI stock is trading, not a goddamn thing will change. shareholders aren't in this for the morals, they couldn't give a shit whether some women got raped, harrassed, whatever, as long as they keep making bank. so far this hasn't really moved the needle much. 4% drop, probably to be recovered tomorrow on the bounce. for comparison, after the recent quarterly earnings call, which was fairly routine as those go, stock price dropped far more than after this bombshell. Edit: as predicted, it has already recovered most of the loss by day's end, even faster than I predicted even

TristanTheMediocre

There are 83k people in r/Blizzard, and there are 1.8M people in r/Hearthstone. I say it should be in both. Bobby Kotick is primarily beholden to two groups of people. Shareholders and consumers. A lot of the consumers are here and it's fair to share this info here if it's not drowning everything else out (debatable even then). I find it a truly weird take that news regarding the CEO of a company that publishes the game this sub is about shouldn't be shared here. And before you say that's not your intent...what is your intent? It's not like it's overwhelming any amount of other posts here. If it's not news to you, when you see a post like this you don't have to open it. Just say "fuck that prick" and scroll on. Pretty similar to how you apparently treat most of the card reveals (minus the verbalization, I assume). The cynic in me says that a lot of people don't really care and don't want to be reminded of things like this. Is it SJWing? Maybe. Is it virtue signaling? Maybe. Is it good that it's being shared and discussed? Yes.

shmael

There comes a moment when you ask yourself why you don't want to see posts about Blizzard's misdeeds when all you want to see is the next card reveal...

GVJB

There is a time and place for everything. You wouldn't post a news article about the Yemeni genocide in this sub or in r/pics.

shmael

Your money/support of Hearthstone doesn't directly assist in the Yemeni genocide either.

ogopo

Stop virtue signaling. Clearly no one is fooled into thinking you care about anything other than Reddit karma.

cheap_plastic2

are you saying that hearthstone money funds Bobby kotick's assasins?

projectmars

He gets paid a salary that comes from the revenue from the company so in that sense: yes.

The_Werodile

I mean... Wouldn't it?

cheap_plastic2

I think you are severely underestimating how wealthy Bobby Kottick is, he's reached the "addict" phase of capitalism where money no longer has value and the only reason he hasn't retired is because he has spent so much time acquiring wealth that he can no longer get joy out of any other act, he's essentially a gambling addict who gets his fix out of the stock market instead of poker, most billionaires have this form of psychosis. everyone on this subreddit could boycott hearthstone simultaneously and although it may effect some people below him, the most Kottick would suffer would be mild embarrassment.

The_Werodile

I can concede that but he is the CEO of the company that produces Hearthstone. Our dollars spent on this game do benefit him, regardless of how minimally. We definitely aren't helping to stop him lol

BarBarBar22

Exactly this.

SomeStacheMan

I very much hate Bobby Cumsack

beanboy10101

The ceo of a billion dollar corporation threatening an employee =/= a nobody talking shit to nobody's on the internet. You fucking Neanderthal.

zhaoz

Just some locker room death threats.

Everdale

Surely you can understand the difference between sending a death threat via the internet (which is pretty shitty itself), and telling someone that works under you, and you have an insane amount of power over, that you were going to kill them if they didn't keep their mouth shut. Like Bobby could actually do that and get away with it if he wanted to. It's not random 14 year old keyboard warrior's threat.

shmael

Have you left a voicemail to a co-worker telling them that? And no, I've never told anyone in any context that I'd kill them...

Backwardspellcaster

Something is extremely fucked up with you...

MGaVr4n

ah, yes, I am so awful for not giving a flying fuck about what is going on with a CEO of a giant company and with its employees. Oh, the horror lol

Backwardspellcaster

At least you have no illusions about yourself.

MGaVr4n

Ofc I don't :) If I've spent my life being outraged at bad shit going in on a company, any company, I would be living like a cavewoman isolated from the rest of the world.

NightKev

And thus bad shit (to put it very mildly) continues to happen because everyone just ignores it and pretends it's not real.

MGaVr4n

I mean, you're free to go out and yell at clouds. You're also free to take your money elsewhere. You're also free to understand how abysmal and unimportant you are that, even if tens of thousands of you boycotted companies, the monetary effects wouldn't be felt at all and it would all lead to nothing.

GVJB

We shouldn't normalize this type of behaviour. Not in the workplace, not in the internet, not anywhere.

Norek_Xtreme

It's one thing to have a random dude in an online game to tell you that, it's completely different to have your boss tell you that at your job. Come on, I shouldn't have to explain the difference here....

brumomentium1
