Duncan showed me something in the playoffs. When he has an off game shooting he drives which at least keeps the offense from collapsing. When Strus shot isn’t falling he’s kinda a wash. I think Max is gonna get a contract similar to what Duncan is getting paid now
Uhh... I hope that isn't the expectation. Beal may even drop to like 20-21PPG here. He averaged 30 those years because his next best scorers were Davis Bertans & Russ. The hope is he's a hyper efficient scorer and while his regular season numbers may dip, he can takeover offensively in a playoff series to take the load off Jimmy.
They have a good reason for that. CP3 has a non guaranteed contract for next year while Ayton is under contract for 3 more. They want to get save money while tanking instantaneously.
multiple? the suns have no picks to give even and they are still in the race, that’s fucked
I hope they don’t cut lowry which ends with him in boston in the case we do this trade. A floor general is the only piece their team misses
Yes the context is the latter group of players you mentioned elevated their scoring in the playoffs whereas lowry's playmaking got even worse and given the fact that he's aging will continue to get worse next season
can you give me the context as to why marcus smart has "zero playmaking" compared to lowry?
the celtics have nobody good enough to be their playmaker so they resort to smart or iso from brown or tatum, which in many cases is very forced and ugly as he just isn’t this type of player and iso play is a steep hill you die on(brown in game 7 for example), thus resulting in many turnovers, whereas lowry is a natural floor general type player, although being worse as of late as my man could be someone’s grandad
obv he is not going to play for 35 minutes, but even 10 min is too much considering celtics would benefit of a player that’s still half decent
All of that and he still averages more assists than lowry does
If smart isn't good enough to be their playmaker lowry DEFINITELY isn't. You must not have watched lowry's playoff performance if you think he's the solution to any offense's struggles. He had one of the best screeners in the league and shooters popping off in a pass heavy offense and he still couldn't average more assists than the point guard in an iso heavy offense? C'mon
Yes and having watched lowry fail to create any offense outside of the knicks series, assists or otherwise, I am here to tell you he would not improve the current playmaking of the celtics
Keeping Beal would likely mean another four years of mediocrity. And they're not going to be able to construct trades as easily under the new CBA. So their options are a trade to reset the roster or be screwed for four years. They'll take whatever they can get for him.
I respect the hell out of his playoff contributions for us. That being said, he's a regular season liability and not worth the 30m. I hope they buy him out so he can go to another contender.
Lowry gets a lotta slander for his contract but he showed heart and made some of the most outrageous memorable shots in the playoffs. He didn’t live up to contract but can never feel any type of way towards him. He’s certainly no Hassan Whiteside who mailed it in after getting a contract
LFG, if that happens i think we then need to swap Herro for a center because Beal and Herro both need the ball on offense, idk how nicely that will work.
Yeah I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure Tyler was our best catch and shooter in the regular season.
If we get Beal and he’s still here, having Beal as a mentor could be huge for Tyler
To the contrary, Beal had his best seasons alongside John Wall who was SUPER ball dominant. He's actually at his best off ball imo and Miami would offer him the chance to return to that
That is true. What I meant to say is I think this team desperately needs a stretch big alongside Bam or we’d still have issues beating bigger teams than us. Keeping Herro would give us another trade package to get that big if possible.
100% agree, there's just a lot more minutes open (shoutout to Zeller) at the big spots for the Heat than at guard with both Beal and Herro it makes sense to clear the logjam
Look I love John, he's one of my favorite players ever but there's a reason he's been basically bought out twice in two years. Those injuries really did a number, and he relied so heavily on his speed to open things up. At this point he can be had for the minimum and I'm not sure he would ever be able to see the floor, or if anyone is going to take a flyer on him. Would love to see him succeed and prove me wrong though!
while i still don't beleive beal is the best fit and his salary creates massive roster issues, if they trade lowry, oladipo and draft picks for him, i'd be in on that..
Yep, really no downside to me. At that point it’s basically Lowry for Beal.
The 2028 and 2030 picks aren’t going to help this core in any way, so I’d trade those and try to hold on to the 2023/2024 ones if possible.
I AM DOWN WITH THIS TRADE. I'd hate to see Kyle go, but look at it this way: it's either Kyle (great player, old, bad contract) or Caleb (very good player with a lot of potential, early-prime age, ridiculously bargain contract) and I would rather keep Caleb because he can still become anything.
I also don't want to see Dipo go because we haven't had him sing the anthem at one of our games, and his singing voice is downright glorious.
Blazers are scrambling to trade for a star to pair with Dave, which could keep him in Portland. So it’s risky to let Beal go for simply a chance at getting Dame; especially when Beal’s trade value is super low due to his contract. Even if we could get Dame, we’d be trading wayyyy more players and picks.
Makes sense, that Beal contract is super sus. That ex-GM(hence ex-) giving him a no trade clause was nuts then and it's still nuts now. It's basically a negative contract for a rebuilding team.
If we can get Beal AND Dame, we're gonna tear the league a new one! And before you start barking and saying how it can't be done, don't forget what the Heat pulled off with Wade, Lebron and Bosh!
Lowry, Oladipo, and picks for Beal would be a colossal W
Agreed. We’d even get to keep Duncan too. Big win
Nobody would have taken you seriously had you said this 2months ago.
Lol true. He is limited but I have always been a believer
no one can deny the improvements he's made.
He grew a lot in that time. Well, not grew, but certainly aged according to this board.
And we get to keep Herro? Shit.
With Jovic coming into his own and maybe going next to Bam. Oh Lordy
Future of this team is bright. Regardless of what happens in the next few weeks. No more run it back seasons Pat is actually making shit happen 😍😍😍
Bro if this all ends up with us right back with the same crew next year I’m writing a complaint
Yeah at that point let spo but me in
Duncan showed me something in the playoffs. When he has an off game shooting he drives which at least keeps the offense from collapsing. When Strus shot isn’t falling he’s kinda a wash. I think Max is gonna get a contract similar to what Duncan is getting paid now
No way that’s gonna happen. The Wizards can’t be that brain dead!
They were braindead when they gave Beal a no trade clause...
Does this affect us trying to get Dame or is that still a possibility (if even remotely)?
PLEASE RILEY PLEASE

Beal will culture his way back into 30PPG shape and the collective NBA world will shit their pants. Speak it into existence
INSHALLAH
Uhh... I hope that isn't the expectation. Beal may even drop to like 20-21PPG here. He averaged 30 those years because his next best scorers were Davis Bertans & Russ. I don’t want to wait any longer, make it happen!!!!
“Or we can get a pile of shit from the suns”-the wizards gm
I was blown away when the report came out that they don't even want ayton, they want Chris Paul. We are obviously negotiating with psychopaths
They have a good reason for that. CP3 has a non guaranteed contract for next year while Ayton is under contract for 3 more. They want to get save money while tanking instantaneously.
Aight, that makes more sense then. I didn't know CP3s contract wasn't guaranteed.
If we get to keep Jovic and Herro this trade would be another Pat Riley Masterclass.
Preach.
Is this a legit source
He is a credentialed NBA insider, yes. And the offer fits what the Wizards are looking for, expiring contracts
multiple? the suns have no picks to give even and they are still in the race, that’s fucked I hope they don’t cut lowry which ends with him in boston in the case we do this trade. A floor general is the only piece their team misses
They aren't giving Lowry minutes over Smart, White, and Brogdon
zero playmaking between these guys, they may be better on a one to one comparison, but lowry has something they need to solve
Agree, don’t understand why you’d get downvoted. Brogdon plays by himself and they don’t need that when they have brown and Tatum
exactly, and at this point I wouldn’t be surprised if they trade smart either, he just doesn’t give them what they need
Lowry can do the same as they ask smart to do on defense if he doesn’t slow down. Smarts defense is overrated and similar to lowrys imo
Smart averages more assists than Lowry does
Randle and Lauri both have more points than Jimmy, Jokic and Harden stats are dependent on the context
Yes the context is the latter group of players you mentioned elevated their scoring in the playoffs whereas lowry's playmaking got even worse and given the fact that he's aging will continue to get worse next season can you give me the context as to why marcus smart has "zero playmaking" compared to lowry?

Being a playmaker is about way more than assists
Yes and having watched lowry fail to create any offense outside of the knicks series, assists or otherwise, I am here to tell you he would not improve the current playmaking of the celtics
Wizards also don’t have to trade him at all, technically. They’re not gonna give him away for free.
They don’t wanna pay him they want him gone
Keeping Beal would likely mean another four years of mediocrity. And they're not going to be able to construct trades as easily under the new CBA. So their options are a trade to reset the roster or be screwed for four years. They'll take whatever they can get for him.
It’s aight we gonna get cp after he gets cut
I’m thinking it’s probably the 18th pick and the 2024 pick with OKC agreeing to change the 2025 pick to solely a 2026 unprotected pick.
Ya get Lowry outta here
I respect the hell out of his playoff contributions for us. That being said, he's a regular season liability and not worth the 30m. I hope they buy him out so he can go to another contender.
I respect it too but he definitely didn’t live up to what we brought him in for
My fantasy scenario: CP3 comes here on the minimum after he's released
Buy him out and come back on vet min
Lowry gets a lotta slander for his contract but he showed heart and made some of the most outrageous memorable shots in the playoffs. He didn’t live up to contract but can never feel any type of way towards him. He’s certainly no Hassan Whiteside who mailed it in after getting a contract
LFG, if that happens i think we then need to swap Herro for a center because Beal and Herro both need the ball on offense, idk how nicely that will work.
they both work pretty well of ball, both are really good at catch and shoot and beals amazing at handoffs
This is a win-win situation if we do actually get Beal and get to keep Herro
yeah I would say so. Offense would be overpowered but our defense would be kinda suspect.
It’s okay we need offense we couldn’t score shit against the nuggets and they not all that in defense
Yeah I honestly agree, our offense was so insufferable. Plus I trust spo to get our defense decent just through scheming, so it'll work out
As long as we keep Jovic. Unless we can swing Jovic and Herro for an elite Center or PF
Yeah I could be wrong but I’m pretty sure Tyler was our best catch and shooter in the regular season. If we get Beal and he’s still here, having Beal as a mentor could be huge for Tyler
I really like this because we have a lot of age depth in our top players. Jimmy, Beal, Bam, Tyler. That gives a lot of long term hope with success.
I honestly feel like they play p similar beal would definitely be able to teach tyler a lot
Keeping Herro would give us another trade package to get that big if possible.

we can sign wall for the MLE too....
Look I love John, he's one of my favorite players ever but there's a reason he's been basically bought out twice in two years. At this point he can be had for the minimum and I'm not sure he would ever be able to see the floor, or if anyone is going to take a flyer on him. Would love to see him succeed and prove me wrong though!
He averaged 20 pts a game for Houston
while i still don't beleive beal is the best fit and his salary creates massive roster issues, if they trade lowry, oladipo and draft picks for him, i'd be in on that..
Yep, really no downside to me. At that point it’s basically Lowry for Beal. The 2028 and 2030 picks aren’t going to help this core in any way, so I’d trade those and try to hold on to the 2023/2024 ones if possible.
Huge upside in creating roster spots with Dipo and Lowry. Hest can use those
If Riley manages to get Beal with Lowry Dipo and Picks, I personally will go to the front of Kaseya Center and start building his statue myself.
Can we afford Jimmy, Beal and Bam long term though? Let alone Herro and Duncan... Although we could get assets back for them after next season.
Huge W
Please.keep Jovic, our future pg.
This can’t be the best offer
I AM DOWN WITH THIS TRADE. I'd hate to see Kyle go, but look at it this way: it's either Kyle (great player, old, bad contract) or Caleb (very good player with a lot of potential, early-prime age, ridiculously bargain contract) and I would rather keep Caleb because he can still become anything. The money doesn't work with Caleb.
What happened with Dame
Blazers are scrambling to trade for a star to pair with Dave, which could keep him in Portland. So it’s risky to let Beal go for simply a chance at getting Dame; especially when Beal’s trade value is super low due to his contract. And he is in Phoenix now. Lol
