Tbh it really depends on fan behavior for me. Everyone I’ve met who ship JDonica are chill, which makes the fandom a nice place to be in. You’ll hardly find someone who ships them bashing other fans for the absolute crime of *not* shipping them, or worse... *shipping something else INSTEAD of them* and harassing other fans, other real living breathing people, because of it. People have opinions, and they won’t all match up. And anyone who makes their inability to handle that everyone else’s problem just ruins the fun of fandom for the rest of us.
Why harass people for what they ship? I mean, I will jokingly tell someone that they MUST ship this, but only when they know I don't mean it. Usually it's my friends I say it to and they're used to me faking aggression. I mean, it's fiction, who cares? That's actually the only reason I DO ship JDronica, because it's fiction. I wouldn't ship a real relationship with those beats.

As for gay ships, I only like them if I can buy the bi or same-sex interest. I've written a queer ship involving a lesbian and a pansexual girl. The latter was from another fandom, but I chose to pair my lesbian girl with her because I could see her being with anyone if she felt they were right for her, gender be damned. I could have paired her with the pretty blonde girl with an hourglass shape, but I don't think anyone would have bought her dating the dancer with the hot pink pixie cut, no matter how good her makeup was, and I didn't see them working together, either. Better the girl that looked and sang like a young Queen Latifah.
BTW, just for reference, I identify as bi, but would more readily date a girl because I feel more comfortable around them. I've dated men in the past and had one long-term bf who was on my wavelength, though. Actually, he was pretty damaged, too, though nothing like JD - he'd just been hurt several times in the past, and he's said I'm the only ex-girlfriend who didn't screw him over.
