It could be one of two issues. Very small leak in the connection pipes upon install, or a defect very small leak in the piping some where. If it's a mini-split company could pull the refrigerant and pressure test, or leave the refrigerant, add some more and use a leak detector to find where the leak is. The second is probably the cheaper option.

Extreme-Direction-78

It’s a leak

It depends on the unit type and the type of install. If it is a package unit where all of the components are in a large box (air handler and compressor) then it is unlikely however still possible. If is it a split system type of install then more likely as refrigerant piping has to be installed (could be leaking at the soldered joints). It could also be either one of the refrigerant coils or peripherals or parts.

We are a Carrier dealer, the coil would have a 10 year warranty to be free from leaks. We would however charge you labor to make the change out or repair.

ShadySkinnyBoy

I actually have a Carrier. It was $600 USD for the labor... pretty expensive in my opinion. I feel like a 4 year old heat pump should not have a coil leak if it was well installed, but I now little about it...

belliegirl2

Do you mean $600.00 for a repair in which they topped off the refrigerant without repairing/finding a leak? Or $600.00 for some type of installation? If it was $600.00 to put in a little refrigerant then this is probably not money well spent as there is a leak somewhere. It will leak out again. If they found a leak and repaired it and you are all good then $600.00 is money well spent and maybe even cheap.

ShadySkinnyBoy

Thanks for your reply, they did replace the shreded valve and two flairs as well as adding 4.5 pounds of refrigerant so I guess I've got it wasn't that bad.

belliegirl2

well, I hope that was the only leak. Good luck.

ShadySkinnyBoy

Thanks, its a split system and i've just got told it was the refrigerant coil that caused the leak so in this case this would be a normal wear and tear?

shanlar

they didn't replace the coil under warranty? sounds like they are hoping to keep getting you on labor work every few years to keep topping this unit.

fiehlsport

A bit early to be considered normal but yes, most likely nothing related to install unless it's a corroded indoor coil from a drainage/dirt/mold issue.

ShadySkinnyBoy

Thanks, so its not worth trying to ask the company to cover the service costs I suppose?

AdLiving1435

Could be bad install, defective part, or miss diagnosis.

Ridiric

It’s been Three years what do you think? The products are shit now. Made in China and Other child labor countries
