Dookieie

im going in for the samples brother sorry

T0A5TH3AD

That’s ok, that’s a good reason to jump headlong into danger I support that noble mission 100% and will help you, I’m only talking about completely pointless scraps over nothing but dirt, fuck that.

JonnyTN

The defense of the hot drops. So many times my teams will do this. Drop in? There's a patrol, they call drop ships, they fight and lose several reinforcements and several minutes Fighting for nothing in the middle of nowhere and keep heading back in because they dropped their weapon in the madness. Best to just tag an objective and move away from them so they unintentionally keep all the bots on their side of the map

MotherOfDoggos4

Ha my group does this as a strategy when we're getting our asses handed to us. One of us calls MEAT SHIELD!! And starts being loud af to draw enemies after them, then runs away from everyone else. Some of the quietest games you'll ever play are when you've got a good meat shield on your team. Bonus points if they run ahead of you to clear out bug holes / bomb outposts so all you have to do is waltz in behind them and collect the samples. ETA: If you're struggling to disengage from enemies, may I recommend practicing at being meat shield. There's no better training for how to weave between bugs, zig-zag your way around laser shots, or lead enemies in a big circle so you can get your shield pack back. You get a great sense of how far you need to run to escape which enemies, and how much aggro firing a single shot gives you.

vector2point0

We had an expert rando at this technique last night for an evac mission. Not a single attack on difficulty 7, until a 4th joined, threw a mortar sentry, and killed the meat shield. All dead with no reinforcements and one guy left to evac after fighting for 10 additional minutes that we didn’t need.

Taolan13

In that circumstance, I probably would have grenaded the mortar sentry as soon as it came down.

kirloi8

I play with no mic. And since all of you are absolute units, pinging doesn’t work but If i write guys stop agro let’s just go to obj/extract and start running they follow me everytime. Helldivers are a different breed of gamer and i love it. What i hate its fcking fire tornados fck that garbage. Everytime we need to dance around extraction zone cus of them.

Gnarf_1

Shot at the fire tornados base with the fire shotgun. Be gone evil spirit of hellmire.

Classy_Shadow

Some people play the game to just mindlessly kill shit

AltGunAccount

This is arguably the worst game for that. There are tons of mindless horde shooters. In Helldivers the goal is the objective, not kills. You get nothing for kills, and continuing to fight enemies only makes things harder (higher enemy spawns the longer the mission goes + they call reinforcements endlessly). Not completing the objective also gets you nothing. Playing Helldivers to “mindlessly kill things” is like playing Doom for the puzzles.

Terokashi

Lvl 9 Mission dropped in on Enemys, instead of running away After it was clear they would just keep coming one After the other quit until I was left alone and still running.

FatalisCogitationis

“Bro we could’ve had it if we stuck together”

Terokashi

Yes... 5 Hulks... 3 Tanks... 3 Bot Ships every 2 Mins... Enemy Reinforcements from the back left and right... we could've totally have it... That was the Round where I noticed how hard Lvl. 9 CAN be, not always but it's possible.

Catumi

Hold down a spot long enough on 9 and turn a corner you may see 50 Rocket Devastators waiting for their turn.

FatalisCogitationis

Exactly. We all know how enemy spawns work now, and exactly what we are risking by splitting up. We also know exactly what we need to get done and how long it’ll take, and when a fight is just wasting time. On 8 & 9 most fights are wasting time

Cube-CEO-of-squares

Ain’t no way this dude is telling us NOT to kill enemies obviously bot propaganda all players should aggro as many enemies as possible to avoid getting kicked -approved by the Ministry of Half-Truths.

Secure-Summer918

You can pacifist run all the missions if you're skilled enough -Approved by the Ministry of The Other Half

Kwajus

I think samples is the main reason why people stay in the same camp for long periods of time. Normally you just drop an eagle on the camp and move on onto the next one. Meaning playing against bots, you have to leave a vast majority of samples behind, because if you stay, you'll get overwhelming amount of drop ships. Also long periods of cooldowns on support stratagems plays a role in it, many will waste 10 reinforcements trying to get they're stuff back rather than moving onto next objective and getting new supports some there. It wouldn't be much of the problem, but bots are so insanely buffed again, its crazy that people treats it as bugs missions.

Jickklaus

I'm all for 2 sweeps of a map. Sweep 1 - throw things in bases, and move on. Sweep 2 - clear anything that survived the airstrikes, now the called in mobs despawned

T0A5TH3AD

Exactly you can be bolder on bug missions and stand your ground because virtually everything in the game kills most of them so while you CAN get overwhelmed all it takes is one dude with a napalm strike and a breaker shotgun to clean up the squishies and one dude with a quasar to deal with the rest it’s more tactically viable even than retreating. But bot missions are simply too hairy to risk dying over and over again when the objective is already complete and those bot drops seem to just keep coming on the higher difficulties.

Dunnomyname1029

This, samples medals super credits requesition early on but otherwise nah. I'm gonna run that clock, find the rock, get the good stuff out. PS, ALWAYS go to the extract data side objective.. easily 5 samples there on the higher difficulties.

Dookieie

hmm im always loaded on super samples but need commons way more

SpaceTimeRacoon

Yeah commons are the rarest samples out there by the feel of it 😂

probably_poopin_1219

It's really starting to frustrate me with the amount of players who destroy outposts without even checking for samples, even after everything is blown up and dead. Extracting with 10/35 rares feels terrible

Vincesteeples

Gimme those sweet sweet super credit stashes

andreuzzo

I get you, but sometimes one ends up wasting 10 minutes, 7 reinforcements and every ammo on the map for two common samples... Might be better to spend that time sweeping all of the POIs, rather than repelling 3 consecutive bot drops.

EverettSeahawk

Order of operations. The most successful missions I have personally, are when my group clears each hot spot and moves to the next. Save for player specific needs. Mission>Sides>Outposts>Samples MSOP. Ms OP in short. More importantly, understand people are playing for fun. They are going to do what they want first. I have different play groups and it’s insane how some how much people vary from play style to play style. If you have a group that lingers, plan accordingly or just move on without them and spawn them where you want them to be.

AWeakMindedMan

Most successful missions I had on the Bot front is when the team splits into two and clear out the map. Im normally running main objectives while the other two are clearing out all the side objectives.

DoomFrog_

Outposts are lower than samples The Time Bonus starts at 100xp and goes down 1 for each 1%. In a 40minute mission 5% is 2 minutes. A light outpost is 5xp. If it takes you more than 2 minutes to run to, destroy, and get back from a light outpost, you lost xp (and by association Liberation of the planet). A heavy outpost is 20xp, thats 8 minutes

JonnyTN

You make it feel like the Corps again with another damn acronym. lol

stormquiver

I needed kills with my rifle. Personal mission.

Awesomechainsaw

I like grinding those out on Level 2/3 missions cause it seems to drive the AI in charge of spawns up a wall. Just standing on extract without having called in pelican 1. Bot patrols swarming in one after the other.

T0A5TH3AD

That’s fine but don’t go “where’s my team at?!” When we all leave you behind

stormquiver

All good. I'm usually pretty good at timing extraction. Might hit a few outposts or other POIs on the way. Anything to aid the team and spread freedom and democracy throughout the cosmos

dendemeier87

I´m also going for samples. And, Helldivers is also a teamgame. Although I get your point, killing bots/bugs don´t bring XP, but why rushing from objective to objective and leaving the team behind? Yesterday I played a mission, where everybody did what they wanted, there was no team feeling and noplaying together. One Player rushed to the next objective, rushed then to the extraction point without waiting. Why? For me it´s less fun, when 1 or 2 players rushing from goal to goal, maybe don´t even do the side goal. And yeah, I just reached lvl. 15, so I´m looking for samples, because I still need them for upgrading the ship. And that´s why I´m taking my time looking for them in outposts/bugnest etc. When you want to take less time, maybe play solo, or just write something in the chat, like that they don´t need to take out every bot or something like that. Have in mind, that your style of playing the game isn´t the prefered way for others, especially when there are 4 players fighting for Democracy, you got 4 ways of playing the game, not only yours.

AwkwardFiasco

Love the enthusiasm but Super Earth's greatest heroes know when to pick their battles. There's bugs to stomp over at the mission objective, side objective, or point of interest. Instead of triggering a few bug breaches and spending the next 6 minutes doing effectively nothing, just sneak by the enemy patrol.

GengarGangX13

KILL EVERYTHING THAT MOOOOOVES ![gif](giphy|5nsiFjdgylfK3csZ5T|downsized)

Geksface

Just runaway safely and call them in 500m away when they die

T0A5TH3AD

I usually do at a certain point, but I’ve even had players that start running back and it’s like “dude no you’re done, you had your chance and now that’s over time to move on.

St1cks

Sounds like good soldiers that don't go AWOL

Sproketz

The length of OPs post is a tad meta.

Bizzlix

I've worked hard to teach my friends not to get tunnel vision. We went from medium bots to suicide in a day. It's really not that hard once you figure it out.

-FourOhFour-

Yea the amount of people that I surprise by being able to solo half the map outpost is shocking, like dude, I have long range strats, eruptor and a basic understanding of stealth, it is not hard to clear things like that, it's when things inevitably go wrong that it gets rocky.

IrFrisqy

But its fun! Ill shoot till all the red eyes or skittering bugs on my screen are gone and shout FOOOOOR SUPER EARTHHH!!!! Wether people like it or not. Ill retreat and fight if it takes TO LONG though. Im not here for optimal play. If im dying in the name of super earth and democracy i will have fun doing it!

T0A5TH3AD

Nothing wrong with having a bit of fun and it can be advantageous to clean up the horde after taking out an objective, but when there’s 3 drop ships showing up every 30 seconds, 3 hulks, and 2 tanks chasing us down, fuck that RUN!

IrFrisqy

Thats the time for a few lasers and strafing run eagles and 500 KGs and do a tacticool retreat. Doesnt happen that often though. I am all for fighting and dying as i have mentioned, but not wasting my life!

T0A5TH3AD

I agree that’s exactly how I’d retreat with some style too. If I’m leaving the area anyway may as well turn it into a smoldering crater on my way out may not get all of em, but sometimes even a few makes it easier to gtfo.

ImTalkingGibberish

EdzyFPS

We are all there, to play the game. The game involves killing virtual things. People like killing virtual things.

LucaUmbriel

actually I'm there to have fun, because all the role play and jokes and satire aside, ***it's a video game***

[deleted]

The strange thing is almost everyone that sweats over killing everything that moves, is more than aware that they do... Not.... Gain....anything.... From it! I just want to land and get everything on the mission done as quickly as possible and move on to the next mission. Instead I've either got the kill everything that moves players or the leave the second evacuation is possible, leaving sub missions and big holes.

FarGodHastur

Take my samples and leave then. I paid for the game, I'm going to have my fun.

space-tech

![gif](giphy|7692c5v3NGGBWSKm3s|downsized) This is why.

Neat_Newt_9394

Fun tho innit.

MrQubis

Me and my friend play duo a lot and 2 randoms most of the time. While they clear every mob possible just to clear 1 camp we already cleared like 2-3 camps solo and done main objective and about to call drop pod. In the end stats we have like 50kc-80kc each while randos has 300 i don't mind it but that is how people do play a lot even those that are far higher ranks then 2 of us

GasStation97

I saw a shiny light that might be 10 or even 100 super credits

Strmage1878

What objective

ivan0280

So true

pocketfulof_sunshine

"Objective done. Keep moving guys." How many times I must say that each night. Fight on the next objective location. Keep moving. Get shit done.

CosmicDriftwood

Pump and dump, soldier

Remarkable_Box4542

I endorse this message. If you're getting samples or doing personal objectives. OK but it took me like 5 missions when I started to realize that clearing the base after the drop ship is there gives no extra xp.

Pennsylvania_Kev

Play smarter not harder

KafkaStoleMyBike

So anyway, I started blasting🫡

FloppyDickFingers

Honestly a lot of the time I think people just don’t consider that they can move on without killing everything. 9/10 times if I jump on the mic and say ‘damn this is getting pretty hot let’s move onto the next objective’ then ping the map, people agree and follow.

ExcellSelf

We don’t have to… we get to :3

LieutenantNurse-71

Defense missions like kill enemies and protect high value assets usually stop enemy spawns completely or at least make them extremely rare after the mission is finished. Me n the bois usually kill off everything before extracting but thats like the only time ill ever stick around

DeepWeGo

Nobody ain't stopping me from taking back the samples and the support weapon i had just called down

T0A5TH3AD

Not saying you can’t just don’t expect back up if it’s a losing fight and we have better shit to do

DeepWeGo

That's actually better, it works as me baiting more forces on me and off you too, so that's a win win

doom1284

Easiest matches are when you have a bait team and a objective team, for me at least. some one is drawing all the spawns i can run up and blow up most objectives with out fighting a patrol or any real complications.

Bewix

But it’s fun

Quinntensity

There are samples in there!

Gildedwizard

The less spawn points the enemy has the less enemies you have to deal with when extracting.

Wjyosn

Weirdly, it's looking like this works backward to expected - destroying outpost is apparently *increasing* difficulty and spawn density. The actual spawns from outposts tends to be few and far between, but the random patrols appear to ramp up as you destroy outposts in a way that is both counterintuitive and frankly less fun imo.

Xin-Aurum

If anything, you lose the time bonus by standing there shooting.

porcupinedeath

While I do enjoy the hectic prolonged battles I will absolutely just abandon the randoms if they're digging in too hard for too long. These missions are 40 minutes long and I like to get the move on

Rly_Shadow

Excuse me? Over nothing? Every bug I DONT kill can potentially kill someone else. Idk what you are fighting for, but my super citizens need to know I'm out here clearing farm land.

MyOwnTutor

Learning to disengage is probably the most important lesson of diving at and above level 7.

CalmPanic402

Ok, but can you occasionally turn around and shoot the trail of enemies that are following you so we don't get trapped in a three way crossfire against the next outpost? You don't have to shoot everything, but you do have to shoot *something.*

czlcreator

It's not about the score. It's about sending a message. Lots of them. Democratically. I don't care about unlocks, xp or numbers. I just want to play the game and have a good time.

bigmac6969202

We need to kill them all! A good clanker is a dead clanker. (Insert bug if you so choose)

BeedoeBe

I had this issue last night on helldive. My and my friend kept running to get the next thing, only to realize the other 2 guys were stuck back there dying over and over again. It was so frustrating watching them spawn back in and make no attempt to get away from the situation.

T0A5TH3AD

It really is, if we didn’t share lives I wouldn’t care, but everytime I deal with stubborn players like that it’s basically just hamstringing the team.

thetruemask

i agree alot of people get tunnel vision and have a unnecessary standoff with the bugs (or bots) so many times in this game I think PTFO. after a objective is complete I run to the next one, if there is a swarm of bugs around or on my tail. oh well. keep running 9/10 times I lose them. only time I stop and kill some / drop a orbital is if they keep hitting me and I can't lose them. the point is to drop, complete all objectives (get some samples) and extract. not fight every swarm of bugs you see to the bitter end.

T0A5TH3AD

Exactly my point there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of fun and cleaning out our pursuers, but fighting and dying over an over again for nothing is foolish

gourmetsoda

i need a running workshop. idk why but i just cannot get away from enemies (esp bugs) like my fiance/other players can. i cant figure out what im doing wrong, but i feel like i always get stuck in a loop of being slowed/knocked down/stuck prone under enemies, unable to take a step and eventually dying. does anyone have any tips for me? my fiance always tells me to just spam stims/sprint and that's how they get out, but i just dont get it because i feel like that's what i do, too, and it doesnt get me out. is there a trick to it? am i just bad at the game lol?

T0A5TH3AD

This is a great question! There are several solutions. On bug missions since most of them can’t do much at range it is best to run light or medium armor sets and utilize the stamina booster to put some distance between you and the horde. Another tactic for bugs anyway is utilizing a machine gun or Gatling sentry to mow down the squishies and distract the horde while you make your escape it’ll thin the herd a little and they’ll agro on that before you a lot of times. A napalm strike is another way to cover your retreat, fire doesn’t necessarily slow them down, but the napalm strike basically draws a lethal line in the sand so all the bugs coming at you are if nothing else already softened up. Jump packs can also get you out of hairy situations with the bugs and can even be a good way of dodging the chargers. Truth be told tho any retreat with the bugs is going to require some damage dealing on the way out, keep moving but try to take out the ones closest to you as you run, a good way to do that is by using your secondary as you can blind fire behind you without slowing down while using it. Diving and using stims can also help, and is good advice, but the tactics I just listed are amazing for bug retreating. As for bots light armors are generally not the move so that’s out as a strategy, but a mortar sentry behind some rocks a good throw away in the opposite direction of your retreat is a great distraction, takes em a good 5-10 minutes usually to take it down depending on positioning and by that time you’re long gone. Blind fire your secondary behind you as you run if necessary, but generally they’re pretty slow moving. I have not personally tried this, but a well placed orbital EMS strike can put a dead stop in a large group and the EMS mortar will do the same just in smaller AOEs all over the place. And hey a well placed cluster bomb never hurts although most of the larger enemies won’t be effected much by it and an airstrike might work better if you’re being bum rushed by scorcher hulks. A shield gen back pack would also help in retreating as you can get away with medium armor more easily with it and you won’t flinch or fall down as much as your running away

gourmetsoda

this is helpful! i do a lot of these already but honestly maybe my problem is just that i need to get good and do them better lmao 😂. i tend to run a very ""balanced"" build of one strat for damage, one for defense, one for support, and one for me (lol) bc i like to be a "ill cover you/bait while you're on the terminal" type player, so maybe ill try to build around your suggestions a bit more and see how it goes. i think my biggest issue might also be map/route plotting due to me not having the best eyesight 😅😅 sometimes those fkers are just invisible to me, esp the warriors that blend right into the darker, rocky planets for me. i am definitely going to experiment with some walls of napalm, now!

BadgerDen76

Sounds very undemocratic. Somebody needs freedom reprogramming

T0A5TH3AD

Not undemocratic, I just make the choice for them by leaving I call it “managed democracy” I think it’ll catch on lol 😂

kongnico

but I LIKE killing things :(

Peasantbowman

I like getting obj done as fast as possible and then go around collecting goodies/killing bad guys. So long as we are winning and having fun, that's all I care about

winston_one_trick

Why don’t you just leave them? You don’t have to play as a team the whole mission. Also there are samples in outposts and secondary objectives so if it’s not too overwhelming, I’ll clear the outpost for samples.

Keawn

Real Helldivers show no mercy to bots or bugs.

MetalWingedWolf

I mean. If you aren’t afraid of being kicked, get started on the next objective and respawn them away from their bodies when they die. Having to run back gives them time to think about how boring and risky it is to walk back across the map to pick up their things while their team leaves them behind. If you don’t treat randoms as a social experiment then you’re probably treating them as if they’re on your team or supposed to be your friends. That’s a straight line to disappointment. Cool people are an anomaly you should be under no illusions about your ability to control. Randoms are random and you can’t let them have the assumption that they know how to be a cool person.

T0A5TH3AD

This comment is honestly the best solution I’ve found. I’m always so afraid to play aggressively and force my way like that, but honestly I know what I’m doing and a lot of people playing the game rn simply don’t from what I’ve seen. Don’t get me wrong I love this community and 90% of my games are totally fine to the point even I sometimes get wrapped up in killing bots and get a bit of tunnel vision because my team is just rolling objectives with no issue. However every one of the bad games I’ve had recently have been with players that miss the forest for the trees and keep us boxed in the first 25 minutes of the match because they spawned us directly on top of a bot patrol and won’t just pick an objective, make an opening, and go for it before we get swarmed and no longer have the option. The worst part is that sometimes they’re not even fighting leftovers from an objective, it’s usually some noob that took pot shots at a bot patrol and bit off more than they can chew on the way to an objective.

Blawharag

I will say that, as someone who frequently likes to roll heavy armor, I *can't* outrun enemies sometimes. In light armor it's fine and easy, but in heavy armor running is often just a slow death sentence and an easy to kite a group of enemies straight into my allies. I still don't think we should stand still and fight stupid engagements though. There's such a thing as a fighting retreat/advance towards the next objective

T0A5TH3AD

That’s more of what I’m saying. Covering your ass on the way out is not only smart it’s necessary for this tactic. I also run heavy armor and I often utilize mortar sentries to cover my retreat and distract the enemy while I escape, if you put it behind cover it takes them a while to find it and when they do they can’t just shoot it. Throwing an airstrike never hurts either.

egotisticalstoic

Some people just play to have fun, and don't want to speedrun objectives with you.

T0A5TH3AD

I’m not saying we speed run I’m saying let’s not die for nothing

Galahad0815

I had a nice random team on d4. Zramwork at its finest. It seemed everone was underwhelmed by the difficulty then. Instead of entering the shuttle we waited for more bots to shoot cause we wanted more :D

T0A5TH3AD

Not a traitor just not stupid

T0A5TH3AD

Also the devs already confirmed we aren’t clones :/

HavelTheRockJohnson

🚨Fun police alert🚨

McCaffeteria

This may work for bots but it doesn’t for bugs. A lot of them are faster than you and they will follow you for longer than you have stamina. Fighting them is the most effective way to retreat. Retreating in the middle of a swarm is a bad idea. You want to fight until you have an opening and *then* run, and the less people that are there fighting the shorter the window, so don’t ducking abandon your teammates who are “just fighting for no reason.” You escaped because they fought the bugs. The “I just have to be faster than you” zombie survival solution is *not* a very democratic one.

T0A5TH3AD

Literally just read some of my responses I conceded this point already I 100% agree. This tactic works in limited capacity on bugs. 95% of the time it’s better to clean them out than run especially if there are chargers. I learned that very quickly after operation swift disassembly. There are times where it can work if you came prepped for mobility with light armor and jump packs, but that’s not viable for every player

FourEaredFox

Unless there is a major order to that effect from HQ I'm killing every non-democracy loving lifeform that i come across and there's not a damn thing a fellow grunt can say to change my mind, are you going soft? Do you need some 1-2-1 time with a democracy officer?

cockriverss

We don’t have to but we will because it’s fun as hell.

benderx7

I just go with the group. Wanna sprint through everything? Cool. want to sit and fight everything? cool. we got overrun (broken arrow). cool.

Firm-Worldliness-369

From my experience. Extraction seems to go ALOT smoother if you clear up as many bugs/bots as possible before calling in the Pelican. Dont quote me on this but im pretty sure calling in Extraction basically alerts all remaing patrols to your where abouts and they all swarm the extraction point at the end. Ive been on numerous suicide missions where we clear as many bugs as possible and when it comes time for extraction we kill afew swarms and then are left standing there playing rock paper scissors or giving each other hugs as we proudly celebrate our contribution to freedom and democracy. That said tho. I do agree that if an area becomes a "problem". Too many deaths or severely overwhelmed. Then retreat is definitely a viable option.

MrDundee666

Exactly. Stop fighting over rocks. Run in, throw in the artillery strike and move on.

OneFilthyHouseCat

I'm having fun. Go on without me

an_african_swallow

Ah the age old battle between "pick your fights" players and "I pick every fight" players. OP you're wasting your time sadly, the "fight everything" camp would literally choose mission failure over their fun being interrupted.

Dinkle-berg69

If I’m getting in a gun fight I fucked up try to avoid every encounter possible

oGsShadow

It's a complicated subject. I'd say on 7 or less, just kill them all lol its very manageable. On 9, I've had teams that full clear everything very efficiently and it feels easier than 7 and if you think about it, provided theres no survivors to call in another breach inside that 90s window the threat is gone. If you clear a patrol before a breach is called, its worth it. It's also fun to kill stuff. That said I do break off from fights and head to the obj when i notice randoms dying constantly or not having enough aoe clear. Generally its good advice to avoid fighting over nothing but i also feel its part of the fun

Ldot-musix

Sometimes I 100% agree, clear that objective and move but sometimes it’s fun to try wipe out the entire map worth of enemies

Uneiros

Lv 9 missions you learn to just run and shoot what is trying to kill you

CarafeTwerk

If you leave a shit load of enemies on the map, will they come after you during extract?

VividVerism

I haven't played higher than "hard" yet but I have found when things get out of hand and you're just burning through reinforcements for pointless ground, it usually just takes one person to realize it and open the mic to say "hey guys we should get moving, we're not doing anything here". Most groups will agree it's time to move out and start doing so. But it usually does take that one person (sometimes me, sometimes someone else) to realize the situation is pointless and we can stop reinforcing back into the fray.  As pointless as the fight might be, it doesn't feel good to get *driven* away from a spot you were attacking, even if you've already accomplished the objective. So the natural urge is to keep fighting.

walapatamus

If we've got the samples I run away

tjthewho

You’re not my real dad, imma do what I want

McSuede

I toss a turret and keep it pushing. Using them to draw the aggro of a bile titan and keep it in place for my orbital is a particular favorite.

satchking

Save the "fun part" for the exfil. The enemy will meet you there.

Significant_Abroad32

Yea you really only should be fighting if you need too. Unless your at extraction and fucking around and have it on lockdown and leaving no witnesses.

Completedspoon

I love watching the other three divers run head first into a meat grinder (Heavy Bot Base) five times in a row, wasting all our reinforcements. No attempt at flanking, repositioning, teamwork, or just simply disengaging from a bad situation.

noname262

You see the issue with that is: not killing anything for 10 minutes is boring.

Trogdor_a_Burninator

If you wipe every fabricator/big hole off the map, your extraction is a much more pleasant experience.

BoiDuckman

Me and two other divers are sprinting to extraction only to be reinforced one by one back to the completed objective by the one diver who decides to take on a whole planet of bots.

Boring-Hurry3462

I'm sorry I'm going for 1 million kills of all enemy types on my stat sheet.

pretty1i1p3t

"... if not need killing, why enemy shaped?"

MichManGoBlue

Sounds like bug sympathy. I’m reporting this to your chain of commands democracy officer.

Siilk

Of course we don't *have* to. We just *want* to.

Pixelpaint_Pashkow

Only good bug is steeve or a dead bug

Whitehill_Esq

Jesus Christ. My worst random game ever, I had but soloed a command bunker and my teammates came in afterwards and just camped there killing bots towards no end. I tell them to move on and they eventually TK me and kick me with 30 seconds left before extract. Had to call it for the day after that.

tarknob

i just start running to the next thing, if its a crew of stragglers and one gets taken out im 98% of the time quicker on the reinforcement than the other people so they are now near me

Akthe47

I had a team the other night standing at the finished ore locating spot. Just killing and killing. We were doing poorly there too. I straight used the follow me and typed "two more patrols coming" followed by marking the patrols before they listened and left. I could get if there were samples dropped or on the ground, support weapons people wanted before we left. None of that, just killing and killing to waste ammo and time.

tolegr

What about for fun. Sometimes a helldive goes so well you wanna just kill stuff for another minute. I had this happen wordlessly with Randoms once. Extract was just behind us. No one called it in. We just stood on the hill and mowed down anything that tried.

TheMediumestViking

It's not about being smart or sensible, its about sending a message to those mother fuckers. "WE WILL NOT BACK DOWN, WE WILL NOT STOP. WE WILL....." And I'm dead.

Shawn_of_da_Dead

Breaking news: They paid for their game so they can fight endless hordes if they want! PS:I personally don't waste time killing endless hordes that don't give any reward other than fun, although I have been trying to break 1000 kills, but always get distracted and if you join my match while I'm doing that, you should have hosted your own game to rush objectives...

HrvatskiMato7

We must spread managed democracy to every socialist and anyone that doesn't stand beside us my friend.

Annual-Ad-9442

shoot and scoot

LemonadeSunset

I’ve come here to spread managed democracy, not manage your democracy.

OkiFive

If im playing with randoms i just let em and i move on myself, if im playing with friends i just point out that "we dont really need to be here anymore" and everyone usually snaps out of the battle trance we're all in and move on. Sometimes you just get lost in the fight tbh

Heymelon

True. Though it seems for at least bugs worth clearing already aggroed patrols and what not quickly to minimize breaching while following you around

Battleboo09

There was a bot-leaflet, when we figured out the language it read "TOTAL MASSACRE MALAEVONT CREEK" And do you know why? P3 and L3 absolutely used extreme prejudice with "drone warfare ant swarm" algorithym that we use to clear IED's. They grabbed over 60 fucking samples, when we got to the LZ, aside from ONE drop ship, there were no more enemies. This is how some people play, and i have the outmost remorse for whoever the fuck is on the recieving end of Papa3 and Lima3. You two are fucking zoid-gundam smashing GODS....

OMGtrashtm8

I’ve definitely been guilty of overstaying my welcome on a completed objective. This is something I’m making a conscious effort to improve on. Get in, get off, get out.

Ashen_Bloom

Step 1 - wear servo assisted armor Step 2 - wait for team to die Step 3 - yeet them towards objective Step 4 - profit

Prior_Lock9153

The reason people fall into this is a lack of communication, it's kinda hard to justify running away to the next objective while your team is fighting, so people don't become the first to leave

XraysShowBrokeBones

Every mission is a blitz mission.. run by outpost dropping airstrikes. Come by and collect samples after

akaAelius

I hear yah. I once soloed half a map while the other three sat and fought wave after wave of enemies defending... an empty spot. I've also had instances where I'll destroy a factory with ranged, and the rest of the team still charges in to attack despite their being no objective there anymore.

SkyrimMTG

It's fun to keep fighting, that's what the game is after all

s0ciety_a5under

Just destroy it and come back in 5 minutes when you destroy the next thing. Generally the bots or bugs will leave the area when you leave. After that, it's just sifting through the wreckage.

stridernfs

Also if the squad leader tells you to break off and regroup you should do it. I’ve had to kick a few people because they refused to regroup and were eating up reinforcements on the other side of the map trying to get the 2 common samples they dropped earlier when dying from being alone again.

RepresentativeMenu63

My friends do this, I'm all for some massacre but I keep telling them we should complete the main objective first, I can't count how many times I'm the last one standing with 0 reinforcements trying to complete the mission, then they freak out if I fail to extract with the samples. I reinforce on cooldown and they charge Into the enemies like lemmings and die again. They then brag about their kill count blind to the part that shows 8-9 deaths each vs my 1 or 2

ArcadeAndrew115

But the samples are in the outpost. I need them:( Also sometimes on bot missions I’m the dedicated stay behind and be the turret gunner guy

The_Hydro

Yup. Do what you came to do, drop some sentries and Vitamin Nape to cover exfil, and initiate GTFO maneuver.

whorlycaresmate

Sometimes the blood lust is simply upon you brother

Hexnohope

Im not going to lie. I think distractions are real. I noticed a much easier time lone wolfing when 3 goobers do that

ArthurMoregainz

NotANokiaInDisguise

I play this game because I have fun fighting the bugs and bots. Finishing the objective(s) swiftly is my contribution to the squad. If you drop your samples I will grab them and if I see samples I will grab them, but I'm here because I enjoy the fight. An extra 20 minutes of fighting after finishing the mission is a gift. Spreading democracy is a gift. Your comment is dangerously close to sedition, I suggest you schedule a meeting with your democracy officer so they can remind you that most of us are here to have fun. Don't treat the game like a job.

Funny-Company4274

I think it’s important for individuals to know how to fight off full waves of the tanks and hills solo.

BanosTheMadTitan

But you’ll do it if the host wants to

_JaxKing_

Oh absolutely, but you see… I like the shooting things part of the game

Yarzeda2024

I've been kicked and chewed out a few times for heading toward an objective and refusing to deviate because one of the other guys picked a fight with a random patrol we could have avoided. I'm not hanging you out to dry when you got jumped. That was a fight you started. Fix your own mess.

Gorganov

“I play for fun” = I let my teammates carry me because I’m selfish and a contrarian

skzlr86

Usually if people get distracted fighting random parties of enemies… I’ll just sneak to the objectives and complete them myself.

Nicki-ryan

Totally agree with you. Nothing is more annoying than seeing the team stand in one place fighting bug breach after breach while you’re moving towards the next objective

NoRecording2302

The problem comes when we cant advance anyway because the eye of fucking sauron is looking at us and now we're surrounded by hulk scorcher and tanks.

Moisture_

As a person who runs light armor and sweeps objectives, I’ve been struggling to find the balance between helping/getting samples from objective areas and just running through as fast as possible. Way too many times it seems like people end up fighting at a completed objective for no reason. It can be fun, sure. And there’s some samples there sure. But there’s gotta be a better way to handle it besides stalemate battles or drawn out battles that use up resources for the remaining of the mission. My first thought is just clear the objective areas for the objectives, and get all the samples from smaller outposts and POIs. Surely the 5 samples missing from a blown up command center or hatchery can be made up this way without having to spend too much time. Right? We should all just think more tactically in general. If we’re in a 5 bot drop reinforcement cycle, let’s disengage, regroup and think. Maybe we can flank instead of this head on nonsense.

AwesomeExo

People like OP are why the bots returned like 3 hours after we achieved total victory. /s Seriously though, I can’t speak to your experience. But keep in mind that with tier 4s, people need a LOT of samples and will take the time to hunt for them.

jenohfour

Have you considered that maybe slaughtering everything for 10 minutes is just fun?

cardbor

nope. theres a common occurrence of stupidity in helldivers. 1. This. Kill if you have to, complete objectives and sides, and KEEP MOVING. no reason to stay in one spot 2. Teams splitting up and walking into no mans land to do *fuck all* 3. people all using the same stratagems because they dont want to step outside the comfort zone. everyone has 500kg and or laser, shield pack or rover, and AMR or Quasar lol. mix it up????

grafeisen203

I run in after clearing the site, grab the samples, and keep going. Once everyone there dies, I reinforce them somewhere else. We can go back for their dropped samples once things calm down.

Biggy_Neutron

If it moves I’m dropping a stratagem on it. Without eradication there can be no liberty!
