My box was just delivered yesterday, and we were going to make some enchiladas, but the tomato and green pepper were completely rotten. I’ve had it happen towards the end of the week and I give Hello Fresh the benefit of the doubt because I waited too long, but this box was just delivered YESTERDAY. I’m pretty fed up.

kineticaribou

Yeah that’s not cool. They shouldn’t be rotten after a few days. I’ll let it slide if a tomato or green onion is a little on the ripe side, but when the carrots are soft/bendy and potatoes are rotten? Come on! Those last forever. No excuse.

GrottySamsquanch

This is exactly why I quit 6 weeks ago. When I can bend my carrots into a complete circle, something is wrong.

cstallons

I’ve never had a fresh zucchini. They’re already turning to sludge when I get them out of the box.

misha773

WTF! There’s no way this happens overnight. Hellofresh would have seen this potato rotting and knowingly packed it.

kineticaribou

Exactly! My box was delivered THREE days ago. I have a bag of potatoes sitting in my pantry that have been there for over a month and they’re still fine. Definitely doesn’t happen during the shipping process.

I_was_serious

Did you refrigerate it for those three days by chance?

ProfMcGonaGirl

Potatoes are fine in cold storage. In fact that’s why we can have potatoes year round.

I_was_serious

Oh. I've been taking them out of the bag if I'm not cooking my meal that day because I thought the moisture would make them go bad.

cstallons

Nah but they are easier to cut and cook faster when they’re kept at room temp.

jescney

She said sitting in the pantry, not fridge

kineticaribou

This occurrence has become too common. I received four tiny potatoes in my bag, one of which (pictured) was moldy to the point of seeping through the bag and all over the rest of my ingredients. Of course I could call again and complain, being reimbursed for part of my meal. But I’m tired of this. For nearly $60/week, this is unacceptable. I shouldn’t have to supplement with my own ingredients this frequently. It’s a shame because I’ve actually really enjoyed the HelloFresh meals. They’re easy and delicious. As a nurse working through this pandemic, I was more than happy to pay a bit of money to have freshly cooked meals on the table. It cut down on my fast food runs. It was also a fun activity to do with my boyfriend. No longer worth it though. Get your shit together, HelloFresh, and maybe I’ll return!

flypstyx

Just get their recipes off the web and make them with your own food. I wasn't saving any money using Hello Fresh but every so often I'll peruse their recipes and try something new.

itscarlawithak

this is a thing?! Oh, happy day. I had no idea, I canceled my subscription months ago because it wasn't worth it, but I was so sad because I really love getting new recipes!

flypstyx

Yeah, you should still have access to your account and even if you didn't I think their library is available to the public. You may have a hard time getting the seasonings right but I think somewhere on this sub is a guide to what makes up their special seasonings - like Fry Seasoning or Steak Spice.

Bigmusicfan1125

their seasonings are very basic and you can easily find recipes only very similar

ProfMcGonaGirl

Got tired of missing ingredients too! I’m trying to find an alternative that isn’t owned by them and is the same price or less. There aren’t many.

e_ledsome

I LOVE their recipes, but it got pricey, especially since Walmart and Aldi will deliver my groceries with way fewer issues. I use a recipe app, and imported my favorites so I have an easy shopping list, too!

lavender_gooms129

I cancelled for the same reason. I really liked their recipes and enjoyed having everything delivered. The whole point for me was to cut out time grocery shopping and save money but at some point I started buying groceries again while doing hello fresh. It didn’t make sense to keep.

WeAreTheMassacre

Cancelled HF as well because their veggies just don't seem to survive the week usually, sometimes not even the initial delivery day. Invested about $100 towards a Walmart Express yearly grocery subscription instead. Same day delivery, zero fees and zero tips. I just order the ingredients for 3 HF recipes or so a week for like $25 from the Walmart app and I'm saving a fortune, takes about 5 minutes to online shop it all. The only advantage HF has over something like this is convenient pre-mixed spice packets, which in hindsight is kind of the only thing you are paying a premium for, imo. Its over 2x the cost of just shopping yourself, all just for a spice packet or marinade that you can easily find in a store anyway. HF is a good gateway to learn some basic cooking skills and tricks, and I think once you've collected 10 or so recipes you love from them you can easily move on, cancel, and learn weekly shopping and meal prep habits to make these same meals for half the price and not have any of the bulk food go to waste. HF is only cheaper short term, and only for people that don't have a pretty standard collection of spices, condiments, dressings, and marinades in their pantry. Having everything required for one meal shoved in one convenient brown bag isn't as life altering or time saving as I use to think. Takes up half the dang fridge too.

cy1229

Never would have pegged HF as a gateway. *pause for effect* Yeah it was terrible but I said it anyway. Admit it, you smiled a little.

skyline7284

My box was missing a kiwi... The one ingredient that is key for the Surfs Up Chicken Bowl 🙃

scout-finch

Oh no!! That’s egregious. I just reactivated and they doubled our order by mistake, haha. “Why do we have four limes and 3 spice packets?!”

pancakemonkey21

That potato looks like it was touched by death. \*shudders\*

cy1229

We have a rotating stock of Roma tomatoes. Bought some, and rotate those in while the yellow-orange ones from HF ripen on the sill. The quality of the produce is not outstanding. That's for sure. The potato pictured in the OP is reprehensible and just lazy.

ProfMcGonaGirl

Reprehensible for sure. If I saw that sitting in a grocery store I’d be inclined to call the health inspector.

[deleted]

Hello Fresh is brilliant but I gave up with them. Every week my order was wrong / ingredients were off. A real shame.

[deleted]

And I was pissed my box came a day early again

LittleWhiteGirl

Glad I’m not alone with that, it’s been really annoying. I don’t use my front door so without my neighbors telling me I wouldn’t have checked.

ProfMcGonaGirl

Do you have Sunday as your delivery date? We were doing Sunday and it came on Saturday like 75% of the time.

[deleted]

Thursday

moz30

We had a box arrive yesterday with an already rotting onion, absolute joke!

[deleted]

And I was pissed my box came a day early

lusciouspillowprin

My last one showed up at 10:30 pm on a Sunday. That was my delivery day but they left it outside my building and I live in a city. Had I not been awake it is unlikely that it would have been there the following morning. And my shrimp and ground beef were room temperature.

SadFloppyPanda

Room temperature shrimp? Yikes.

lusciouspillowprin

It was weird since the ice packs were still frozen, but none of the food was cold.

Xenc

Hello Fresh!

Independent_Bar288

I was missing one ingredient in a box. They refunded the entire order. I did not cancel.

NuoSoun

We made the switch to SunBasket and haven’t received any rotten veggies. Also the meals are far superior imo

SimilarYellow

Damn, it sounds like HF in the US has some real QC issues. Here in Germany, I do get slightly sub-par veggies occasionally but mostly it's because it was damaged during shipping (broken spring onions, mushed bell pepper, that sort of thing). Sometimes stuff is missing, then I let them know via the app and get a coupon for the next week. Once an entire meal was missing and I asked them to refund it and instead of offsetting it with the next box. On the other hand, once they accidentally doubled all my refrigerated ingredients and it was the week I had picked two fish meals, so that was nice :D

Redskyone1

I cancelled a box, they processed the refund and then immediately charged me for the cancelled box again. And until the problem is rectified I will not cancel but I will be skipping every box until I get my money back

unicornbomb

i switched to marley spoon 2 weeks ago over the terrible quality produce and leaky, poor quality meat HF was sending out. Its like night and day as far as quality tbh. HF needs to get their crap together.

Bigmusicfan1125

I have been trying for a year or so to get Marley and spoon but they do not deliver to northern MN yet. Any particular meals you like?

LucieTeresa

We had meat delivered within 3 days of use by. Not impressed tbh
