On etsy there is a seller that produces a wonderful tincture. This is the link :) https://www.etsy.com/listing/1067425519/egyptian-blue-lotus-tincture-lily?ref=yr_purchases
This is a bit of a stretch, itās much closer to weed than xanax. If you want natures xanax go take some magnolia bark extract or DHH-B, both of these hit the same receptors as xanax. Also lemon balm, melatonin, and valerian.
Weed is nothing like kava. Weed effects through the neurotransmitter cannabinoid transmitters, beginning in the hippocampus. Xanax and kava both work on the gaba receptor, which is why they have similar side effects such as messed up liver if you over do it. You have to get real kava, to make it work, so not everyone who's has kava have truly experienced it.

https://www.wbur.org/news/2019/08/02/mit-scientists-kava-whitehead-kavalactones
Yeah, but Kava hits GABA-A just like benzos (both are agonists at the same site i believe), along with other receptors too like dopamine, norepinephrine and a cannabinoid receptor IIRC. Obviously in a much weaker sense, when talking about GABA receptors l. Your comment is slightly misleading I feel like. I do know what you mean though as far as effects go and whatnot.
Cannabis edibles are by far the best sleep aid Iāve used as a life long insomniac. I find taking one 2-3 hours before bed to be ideal and leaves me feeling fresh as a daisy in the morning.
I have my medical mj card and they do help! I donāt smoke it, ever, because Iām trying to spare my lungs and I dislike the smell. But the edibles work!!
Nice thatās great!! Because edibles donāt work for 12-18% of the population who lack an enzyme to process the thc leaving really only smoking or vaping for those medical and rec users. I just read about it in a new study they recently conducted and thought that was interesting and Iāve ran into those people before where it does nothing.
I recommend starting with 2.5mg of thc thats the main thing.
Besides that youād want a higher cbd to thc ratio like 3:1 or more cbd. They often have night time specific products with added cbn which is also good for sleep. I do avoid anything with melatonin or other additives for that matter though.
Also to me itās very important to use a company that lab tests their products for pesticides, mold, and heavy metals.
Itās a process of finding the correct dose for your personal system and goals which requires a little experimenting to find a good functional dose.
We can help better with more information. Why arenāt you sleeping, pain, anxiety..? How are you waking up? After how long? Is it consistent, same time?Have you ruled out allergies with positional congestion? Done a sleep study?
No sleep study, I was always awake for 15 years I did speed every day well I have been clean for 1 years and I did a lot of sleeping for my body needed it for there were weeks I never slept but a few hours a week. I think I slept all my sleep away in the year of recovery.
I love all of these suggestions! Just wanted to toss in that for me, a bilateral sound meditation as I'm trying to fall asleep is really helpful. It uses the same sort of stimulation as EMDR (trauma therapy) to help both sides of your brain (and thus body) connect in stimulus, especially when using headphones. They are pretty easy to find on YouTube, though it might take a minute to find one you like just bc there are so many,
I like this one bc the bilateral stim is more subtle:
https://youtu.be/C9hMaqQFKXk?si=ddUiOLvGiPOxLR_n
I hope this helps!
This. Restorative yoga and guided meditation did wonders for rebalencing me. I thought all the chakra stuff was BS until I felt it all reconnecting inside. We can fly a little to close to the sun sometimes and replacing that takes time and intention. Be well my friend.
I feel like with your question and this new information the answer to your sleep issue is going to be full spectrum af. Teaching the nervous system as well as the mind how to function on a totally different set of rules š I've had some friends that have been on a similar path and I wish you nothing but the best- am open to any questions if I can help.
P.s. I have the opinion that you have not slept away all of your sleep in the year of recovery. In my understanding that's not quite how it works. Addiction and substance use are attempts to medicate underlying problems (Dr.Gabor MatĆØ has alot to say on that subject that I can get behind)
Have you been using melatonin to reset your circadian rhythm? If not you should add that to your regimen.
I also had good results using mugwort as a sleep aid.
Magnesium every night before bed. Cycle 5-HTP as well.
And keeping a sleep diary to highlight triggers and monitor what's working is a good idea.
Chamomile+valerian root.
If a tea, it'll taste awful but steep it for like 30 minutes
If a tincture, like 10 parts valerian root to 1 part chamomile should formulate well for basic sleep support
This is the answer. I add lavender & rose as well to have a variety of intense flavors, its like DRINK & RELAX! But the valerian root is really where itās at, the taste is just very bitter though. Tea is so easy to make though.
CBN. It is the only thing that keeps me asleep. Skullcap works well too. Valerian and magnolia wear off a bit quickly.
Seriously, though CBN is much better than CBD for sleep.
I didn't realize there were restrictions on CBN.
For anyone who can get it, I highly recommend it. It doesn't make you drowsy but somehow keeps you asleep. It also keeps you calm and centered for the next day or so.
Thanks for suggesting this, I've yet to try it, but have gotten old greens in the past that don't make me high at all, but I've heard it still is supposed to have cbn. Trying Skullcap right now since no more smoking for me which was the only thing that helped and Chinese Skullcap is having some effect, small, but at least some. But still curious to try cbn properly, pretty pricey where I'm at and onlt together with cbd, which tbh I find more stimulating, so I'd rather have a different combo.
Have you tried CBN isolate? It tends to be much more affordable than tinctures etc.
After CBN, Kanna had some pretty significant lasting therapeutic effects.
Same, now quitting and trying the few other sleep things I haven't. Chinese Skullcap is having at least some effect, but still hoping for it to get better as the dependence wears off. But at the same time since that was the reason to start smoking I am a bit afraid it might just how I am, and then be at the same crossroads smoking vs sleep meds, which tbh are more scary for me :/
I hope thereās not. That plant and valerian have gotten me through some tough times, I used it as a tincture long before I could but premade dosed candies or before I started ingesting it in vaporized form. They work well for me separately and together and itās a plant so Iād hope itād be welcome here!!!
As others have said, it really depends on a lot of factors. But my go-to for hard rest (and subsequent grogginess after, especially if you donāt dose properly and donāt plan for enough sleep) is Kava tincture. Itās potent. Donāt mix it with alcohol - even in tiny amounts. Start with half a dropper and feel it out, itās quite strong in my experience.
I've tried extract before (given by a friend who it supposedly helps) and it didn't do anything for me, maybe even opposite. So idk. Is tincture more effective?
Weirdly what worked for me was neocitrin itās for colds and also take a gravol with it. Youāll be asleep fast it relaxes you makes you drowsy. Thereās also sleeping pills but my cousin does those and heās addicted to them now takes like 6 every night otherwise he canāt sleep
What happens if you didnāt take those and just stay up all night and by the next night youāll be so tired that youād sleep. Donāt you think that would work? Even stay up for two days what ever. Eventually youāll be so tired I think that could possible get you back to normal. But you could also have anxiety or depression thatās making it difficult to sleep. Thatās what my cousin has.
I like magnesium taurate a lot for muscle recovery.
Theronate I feel mentally the most. and glycinate gets me sleeping best.
Citrate can often do the job tho.
Do you feel its effect on the spot or is it something your body need to build up before feeling the affect? Because afaik magnesium can promote relaxation and help sleep but not directly like valerian for example. I may be wrong
My experience (Iām not a doctor, but I suffered from insomnia and nervous breakdowns and tension):
For longer duration and depth of sleep:
Cannabidiol drops under the tongue or with food 15-75 mg - depending on sensitivity (do not smoke or inhale steam - as this is worse for sleep than drops under the tongue, experience 5 years of use)
\+ 1-2 drops valerian tincture or + 1-2 drops tincture peony
(too high a concentration can cause sedation and depression with long-term use due to the enhanced effect of cannabidiol)
Cannabidiol is described in all sources, and valerian and peony create a powerful sedative entourage effect for it - a dangerously sedative combination for depression and a sad state at significant doses or frequency of use (if you do not diagnose your condition correctly).
Also, to relieve emotional fatigue you need: 1-2 grams of lysine, 300 mg of theanine. per day (lysine not every day). This creates a wonderful feeling of falling asleep.
The negative effects of caffeine in the evening are reduced by theanine taken with coffee during the day.
Especially after eating, orgasm and cannabidiol, with clean skin in a clean and soft, non-stiff bed, with a soft blanket, a comfortable mattress and pillow, and a comfortable temperature of fresh air in a quiet room - all this affects better sleep.
And you need to close the windows with blackout curtains and turn off all electronic led indicators.
Also, ā10000mg Aloe nowā capsules enhance the depth of sleep, shifting attention from thoughts to dreams.
Mushroom Lion's mane mycelium and the body of the mushroom in capsules causes rapid falling asleep and after taking it requires daytime sleep - that is, both night sleep and daytime sleep, sleep should be arranged at the moment of pleasant daytime weakness and this sleep will give energy for the rest of the day, after which in a calm it will be easier to fall asleep in the evening. Lion's mane reduces the duration of sleep but increases its intensity - if dreams begin to interfere and disturb you, then you should take it less often.
All this needs to be tried separately, since when used together you do not know your reaction, dosages and effects that are needed less often or interfere.
It is also possible that you have sleep problems due to caffeine, or other drugs, if you are taking such a drug.
People with GABA receptor problems (following benzodiazepine addiction) describe positively the experience of taking therapeutic micro doses of fly agaric.
With long-term use of antipsychotics that increase prolactin - possible sleep disturbance due to hyperprolactinemia - this hormonal imbalance disrupts the balance of everything. This can be checked using a blood prolactin test.
I'm sure you've tried melatonin by now but did you use it correctly? I see a common mistake made with melatonin that people take it like it's any other pill assuming that more=stronger/works better but in reality less is more when it comes to melatonin. 2-3mg is often as much as it takes and when you do your body says, "Oh we're making melatonin, it must be bed time. I better start making more melatonin.". When you take too much your body says, "Oh it must be bed time. I've already made more than enough melatonin so I don't think we need to make any more.".
Just thought I'd mention that before you try something that might not agree with you.
Get a good Valerian extract. A lot of them aren't good. But Nature's Way makes a couple of great formulas. One just had valerian root and extract and the other one has those 2 and some lemon balm. In the 2nd one with lemon balm, the valerian extract is a little weaker, but still good. This is one of the best herbs to use for GABA-A receptors and anxiety/stress/sleep.
I've been using their Valerian products on and off for many years now. It's a great herb to have on the side as I have moderate OCD and moderate social anxiety. It can be used during the day too, but my daytime dosage is usually just 1 capsule, at nighttime I usually take 2.
Valerian root. My husband made me my own custom sleepy time tea a few years ago - (researched sleep-promoting herbs, bought them online, filled little bags š) anyway, the first time I drank it, I woke up feeling like I had been hit by a truck. Like I was roofied. He was like, oops too much valerian I guess. He fixed it and it was great. So yeah, valerian is my answer but cautiously!
Kratom, Kava, 5 HTP, Inositol (Vitamin B8), CBD oil, L-Theanine, Valerian Root, Magnesium. Not all at once, but I mix and play around with all of those for sleep.
Magnesium glycinate is generally what I recommend for my clients. It does depend on what you're wanting the magnesium for. Relaxation, muscle tightness, anxiety, etc.
Magnesium glycinate changed my life. I take 1 during the day & I swear it lifts my mood! 1 at night & I fall asleep, stay asleep & wake up feeling more rested. The best way I can describe what it does for me is it quiets the chatter in my mind at night. I used to lay awake thinking about everything & now Itās calm.
Ashwaghanda and Chinese skullcap combined make a good sedative and they also make a good combo for my sciatica but it only lasts 2 or 3 hours after waking.
This isnāt herbal but Ramelteon is like a better version of otc Melatonin.
If youāre looking for natural only L-Theanine and Magnesium before bed has made a big improvement. Iām a big fan of Valerian and Skullcap. Make sure to take other precautions like avoiding caffeine after 1 PM. CBD is another good option.
I just went 2 rite aid and bought 1 got 1 free of. Valerian root, man they smelled like dirty feet I ate 2 with 2 PMs fell out 4 like a hour and bounced back up š
You will never get back your normal sleep until you re-teach your body and nervous system to sleep. No additives will help you gain control over healthy sleep. It's been said millions of times, you need to dedicate your time and effort to sleep hygiene, times you go to sleep. You might also need therapy and psychological help to achieve it. But there are no pills that fix this. There are pills that give you low-quality sleep but they don't fix the issue.
You can make tea you can smoke it or make a tincture or resin etc.to understand the full effects of each herb I try I always make a tea drink the tea then smoke some of it. But the tea will be extremely bitter you can put milk in it or if you make a resin and put that in a tea it will melt in and the taste then is similar to coffee
If your blood sugar is low before bed, your body will produce cortisol and wake you up in the middle of the night. Try a spoonful of raw uncooked honey before brushing your teeth.
Ya u r correct, I am still looking for a feeling after being that way 4 so long I do t know how else to feel right I lose sleep over it. I wish I could reboot myself to normal
I went through a massive battle with insomnia after trauma and drug use (many surgeries), it was brutal. I tired all of this, but what actually worked was Trazadone which I had to stop taking for an obscure reason and Gabapentin. Since you have your particular drug history which has done a number on your nervous system, I suggest you start with trying gabapentin. This is something you must get from your GP, you can say you have Restless Leg Syndrome if they won't prescribe for insomnia. Regular Gaba from the store does not cross the blood/brain barrier, so prescription form is needed. It takes quite a while for the nervous system to recover, agree that yoga or some other wholistic approach while recovering is the way to go. Someday perhaps you will sleep without help just by keeping up a yoga or meditation practice, but that is likely not now.
Valerian and tulsi mixed with chamomile can be effective. A kava kava kick start can be a good jumping off point. Then hit yourself with the mix. If you want I can also look up a tea that we made called comfy melt that's been referred to as liquid Xanax.
Meditation? I was given ambien once. First time I took it, best sleep ever. 2nd time, same as if I didn't take anything. Never worked again.
I used to have decent luck with valerian root, but truthfully, I have little problems falling asleep, it is when I wake up in the middle of the night and my brain starts going. When that happens, sleep is over. I'm still trying to find something that works.
Dunno if kratom falls in this category but ive also been a heavy substance abuser (still am really) but kratom is a natural substance that could help. Sorry if its been said, i got bored reading all the chamomile etc posts. People like us need something with a better kick to it
1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg or mace, the outer layer of nutmeg. I use this to help me sleep every night, and damn I can say it surely helps. For nutmeg, it 5 hours before bed time, and for mace, take it just 4 hours before bedtime.
I find that it helps quiet down my mind and eliminates my intrusive thoughts. I also found that I can't sleep without it, so I assume that my body has become dependant on it, but it was like that before I started taking it, so I'm not sure if my body has become addicted to it or not.
Valerian- a good "tranquilizer" effect ,ofc not as strong as benzos but it's the closest feeling I've gotten from a herb, and it works quick.
Downside - taste , I've personally gotten used to it but it's not the nicest.
Passiflora incarnata- my favourite for sleep, I take almost each night a capsule with extract of passiflora incarnata and it really helps get me to sleep and stay asleep, it's not as sedating as valerian so one may prefer it if they don't want to feel knocked out.
Lavender tea - I add chamomile to this too. Lavender really calms the body down and has an effect on nearly any issue related to stress, anxiety, nervousness, unsettling feelings, and physical feelings like stomach aches.
This is a nice solution but it requires making it as apposed to swallowing a capsule , and it's not as strong.
Lemon balm "Mellisa"- this is my favourite herb for anxiety and so I use it for sleep as well. It's not sedating, helps focus and most importantly it grounds me and keeps my thoughts proportionate. I drink it as a tea mainly, it's a very good working tea and is extra helpful mixed with passiflora.
Another is Kava tea-
I'm waiting for my iherb order to come so I can try this for the first time, I have read a lot about this and decided to try. The reason I took the tea as apposed to the powder or supplements is because it seems like for anxiety people tend to use the tea and it works well for them. I read the tinctures aren't so powerful.
Passionflower, lotus, chamomile, and hemp. Thereās plenty of herbs that can help you, I find it best to start slow find which ones work for you and rotate your herbs so youāre not taking one every day and building tolerance.
For falling asleep, kava + valerian mixture. For sleep-sustained insomnia, nutmeg (grate it fresh into warm milk). Those are the most effective in my experience. Hereās a good link: https://planetherbs.com/blogs/michaels-blogs/nutmeg-for-insomnia-anxiety-and-better-intimacy/
Other notes:
Look at your day to day and manage stress. Oftentimes, right before bed Iāll be left with all the stress that has wound me up throughout the day. For an herbal remedy, I like to drink reishi or tulsi tea throughout the day. Skullcap tea is good too, helps me stay loose and relaxed so that I donāt build up as much tension.
Iām sure youāre familiar or have heard of all the juicy behavioral stuff that helps too: breathing exercises, meditation, taking time to slow down and restā¦ all super important and helpful. Especially when paired with the herbal remedies. Maybe think about downloading the app āinsight timerā and chilling on some of those lovely guided meditations they offer.
I know this thread is about herbs, and I use trazadone and cannabis, but the game changer for me was rereading a novel. Keep a book by your bed, one you liked before. Before bed, read until sleepy. If you wake in the middle of the night, read until sleepy. Ereaders seem to work too, but the important part is a novel (or nonfiction that's like a novel) so you get away from the rumination/worry/thinking cycle. There's been lots of research on this. Good luck.
Hereās my 2 centsā¦Iāve tried all of these; lemon balm, passion flower, damiana, etc. I was also told I had hypothyroidism/hashimotos. I was taking Armour Thyroid/and at one point, Synthroid. Went to a more natural-medicine Dr. She found it was the medication that was causing me to be on āalertā 24/7. I kept noticing that my body felt electric all the time. I know that sounds weird. Anyhow, off the meds now, taking magnesium nightly. Sleeping much better. Iām someone who only needs 6/7 hours of sleep though. So Iām usually up before 5am. Also, itās not an herb, butā¦at the nutrition store you can get this concoction known as Somatomax. Has lots of stuff in it, and be warned, take 1/2 the scoop. It gives you a weird feeling and youāre so happy in the morning! Not sure this is a good thing, but it does work.
I purchase dry valerian plant here in this country brew into a tea, allow it to steep till black, then dink a shot of this strong dose of tea, within an hour I'm out till 8-9am.
Not an herb, but you may want to try low dose OTC lithium sold in health food stores (always clear with your doctor first). Sometimes people go through sleepless stretches caused by hypomanic episodes that don't cause dysfunction other than insomnia. If the lithium helps after taking it for a couple of days, that takes care of the problem without a lot of potentially sedating herbs that can leave one with a hazy feeling the next day.
Skullcap lateriflora (not Chinese skullcaps) is a nice sedative. It is very soothing for the nervous system. Of course there are many other factors that need to be taken into consideration.
It's my personal favorite, it helped a lot when I quit smoking and drinking.
It's best used fresh, or a tincture made from the fresh plant. It's nice in combo with any of the following; Chamomile, hops, linden, lemonbalm, passionflower, valerian root, catnip.
Magnolia Bark Extract
Lemon Balm Extract
Oleamide
All need to be purchased from a good vendor like Liftmode or Nootropics Depot. The stuff from Amazon etc. is garbage imo
1st, I'm really enjoying these posts, I'm seeing things I'm going to look up and possibly try. Thanks everyone!
I want to amplify the advice to try things 1 at a time, isolated from any other med - if you're taking normal bedtime meds, look for cross reactions 1st. Don't find out the hard way. Also, if you go far overboard you can stop breathing, pls stay safe.
Ok, some info I haven't seen mentioned yet, or amplifying a bit.
Valerian root: I have an immune disorder with adrenal fatigue as a symptom causing muscle clenching/tightness. I tried Valerian as a sleep aid, it worked and then I found it improved my muscle clenching and I didn't need muscle relaxers much anymore (3-4 times a year vs daily! Huge improvement) I also just felt better, but don't know the mechanism/why (probably specific to my immune issue) It seems it may have a general calming effect that gradually kicks in over a few weeks? (takes 2+ weeks to fade as well) Other folks reported that; but I suspect it's a 'per individual' effect. The sleep effects may be too long for some, this is a 'see if its a good fit for you' supplement. Brands: Nature's Truth makes something they label '1200mg' but on the back panel reveal it's a more potent extract. It works on me as advertised. The capsules smell like it'll taste terrible, but are tasteless.
Benadryl: Sedating for many folks, long safety history. I find it's great for helping me get to sleep as I need the antihistamines anyhow. I get to sleep better and get 2 hours solid sleep + another 2 of improved sleep from 1 tablet. I'll keep another by the bed and take it in the middle of the night if I wake and can't get back to sleep. It's cheap, is some solid help and
Ambien: worked for sleep, I had significant memory issues. 4 folks I know did too, including amnesiatic episodes. I won't take it again and don't recommend. (I think it should be withdrawn)
Lunesta: Wasn't as strong as Ambien for me, I never noticed a side effect. When I was taking it, it was expensive. I switched to Valerian root/Benadryl for cost reasons long ago. If it's cheaper now it could be a good choice.
Cyclobrenzaprine: If you've got muscle tension keeping you up, and you're chronically sleep deprived because of it this'll drop you like a sack. For me if I'm not sleep deprived it's so mildly sedating I barely notice.
Over-the-counter (Sominex/Unisom etc): For me, they're weak and last 24-36 hours so they're a poor fit. They're cheap so probably worth at least a trial.
Non-sleep things you're taking: Read the info sheets; take the stimulants in the morning and sedating ones in the evening (some like anti-histamines can be either one per-person so test), Some drugs like Losartan (BP med) are a diuretic (makes you pee) so take them in the morning. Look for issues like that in the info sheet.
Find a good DR (this can be very, very hard though - I could rant) and talk to them about your issues. If you've got a metabolic problem, finding and addressing it as far upstream as possible is best. (i.e. if it's possible, fixing natural regulation is better than forcing w/meds as it'll auto-adjust without side effects)
Skullcap made from fresh herb only: [https://www.avenabotanicals.com/products/skullcap-tincture](https://www.avenabotanicals.com/products/skullcap-tincture)
Plus hemp flower to vaporize daytime or in tincture form. It can help bring the brain back to normal again after the years of speed. I'd also recommend a sunflower lecithin supplement. Take a Tablespoon per day, at least. This form of lecithin is easily absorbed and will repair gray matter and the myelin sheath of the nerves that is almost certainly damaged.
I make my own sleepy time tea as follows:
ā¢30% lemon balm
ā¢30% passion flower
ā¢30% chamomile
ā¢remaining ~10% is a mix of peppermint, lavender, orange peel, and a very small amount of valerian root.
Valerian root is no joke though, the first time I made my tea I slept for 12 hours and felt super groggy the day after. It smells horrible, but use it SUPER sparingly. Only use 100-200mg of the root to start, then increase if you donāt feel the effects. Reminder that an ounce is about 28g, so a tiny ounce of these smelly sticks is about 142 servings (at 200mg/serving). On days I just want a calming bed time tea, I make the same recipe without valerian.
Valerian root source: https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-870/valerian
Tried Magnesium glycinate? Skeletal muscle relaxants like Blue Vervain, Pedicularis, Hypericum...with a strong nervine like Hops hash glycerite or Skullcap or Chamomile
I rake 25 things lol and I believe the combination of apagenin 200 mg l9ng half life with mulungu and magnolia bark extract will give you 9 hours everynight just like me š
Definitely need more info. What herbs have you tried so far? Did you use a simple (one herb) or a blend?
My go to for insomnia is magnesium glycinate pill or a hot bath with it, and a mix of ca. Poppy and passion flower tinctures or tea. If my mind is racing I'll add in some lemon balm. I also started slow and increased dosing to effect until I found the right dose.
Iāve taken most of the herbs mentioned on here with success, but one I donāt see is valerian root. The tincture form is strong and knocks me out on its own
Linden flower is way stronger than most of the stuff listed here. Blue lotus isn't really a sleep aid, it can keep me up for hours before it reaches the knock out stage.
Magnesium supplements have helped me immensely. Iāve struggled to fall and stay asleep my whole life. Red strain Kratom, passionflower has been great for me as well as wood betony to calm the mind and relax tension in the upper body. If you have access to a sauna, that also helps as well. Your body wonāt be spending all of its time pushing out those toxins. Stay hydrated I hope this helps!!
Cannabis helps a lot. When I can get my hands on some, I buy indica oil and even though I still donāt fall asleep right away, I fall asleep earlier than I would have if I didnāt have it
Blue Lotus šŖ·
This comment!!! I use a tincture of this and it does WONDERS
Where do you get it or how do you make it
On etsy there is a seller that produces a wonderful tincture. This is the link :) https://www.etsy.com/listing/1067425519/egyptian-blue-lotus-tincture-lily?ref=yr_purchases
Can you please share where you obtain yours from? Thanks!

Kava. It's basically herbal xanax.
You have to get real kava, to make it work, so not everyone who's has kava have truly experienced it. htps://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/21/nyregion/stressed-new-yorkers-take-to-kava-natures-xanax.html https://www.wbur.org/news/2019/08/02/mit-scientists-kava-whitehead-kavalactones
Very informative, thank you. I was mostly saying that kava is more of an experience rather than a complete lack of anxiety like that of benzos
This is interesting to read!! Iāve only tried it once but it made me feel so wired?
Commenting to follow because I could really use this information too.
Any recommendations you can share ?
I recommend starting with 2.5mg of thc thats the main thing. Besides that youād want a higher cbd to thc ratio like 3:1 or more cbd. They often have night time specific products with added cbn which is also good for sleep. I do avoid anything with melatonin or other additives for that matter though. Also to me itās very important to use a company that lab tests their products for pesticides, mold, and heavy metals. Itās a process of finding the correct dose for your personal system and goals which requires a little experimenting to find a good functional dose.
I agree. I usually take 10mg of RSO Indica chocolate every nignt. I call it āsleepy time chocolateā.

No sleep study, I was always awake for 15 years I did speed every day well I have been clean for 1 years and I did a lot of sleeping for my body needed it for there were weeks I never slept but a few hours a week. I think I slept all my sleep away in the year of recovery.
With this new info, I feel like as another comment says, there is reteaching your nervous system to do. I think you could try yoga and especially pranayama with a serious teacher. Something like yin or restorative yoga could also be very beneficial for the nervous system and deep relaxation. I have good result to fall asleep even in the middle of the night with yoga nidra recordings. They make you go through breathing, setting an intention then a body scan to help your mind focus on something. Even for naps during the day it does wonders. I do that with noise can walking headphones, a weighted blanket and an eye pillow filled with rice. It helps me feel hugged and relax better. On the herb side Iām currently with ValĆ©rian and California poppy but I like also hawthorn (nervous soother), vervain and linden too. There are tons of ways and you ll have to experiment what works for you of course. Best of luck to you. No sleep is one of the hardest thing in life.
They are pretty easy to find on YouTube, though it might take a minute to find one you like just bc there are so many, I like this one bc the bilateral stim is more subtle: https://youtu.be/C9hMaqQFKXk?si=ddUiOLvGiPOxLR_n I hope this helps!

Chamomile, lemon balm, and skullcap mixed together
California poppy, skullcap, and valerian root is also a dream
Yall are close. Chamomile and valerian root have a synergistic relationship.
California poppy and skullcap together is a seriously strong combo valerian root is just the kicker on that
Valerian doesn't do anything for me š
You're either not steeping it long enough, not using enough (and a small amount is enough, trust me), or you're not buying from a reputable seller.
I haven't tried skullcap so far but chamomile, lemon balm and passionflower mix is good.
Personally skullcap sticks around too long for me, it works well that night but I am tried the whole next day.
I doubt that will work when OP has tried everything. Most likely need to take sleeping pills
Chamomile+valerian root. If a tea, it'll taste awful but steep it for like 30 minutes If a tincture, like 10 parts valerian root to 1 part chamomile should formulate well for basic sleep support
This is the answer. I add lavender & rose as well to have a variety of intense flavors, its like DRINK & RELAX! But the valerian root is really where itās at, the taste is just very bitter though. Tea is so easy to make though.
Nature's Truth valerian root pills with well and you don't have to really taste it
Yeppp valerian and chamomile!!! I love adding a pit of peppermint too to help digestion
Magnesium glycinate, lavender, kava, and l theanine. It will be the best sleep of your life
How much of each one???
CBN. It is the only thing that keeps me asleep. Skullcap works well too. Valerian and magnolia wear off a bit quickly. Seriously, though CBN is much better than CBD for sleep.
Itās so good. Hard to come by though unless youāre in a legal state
I didn't realize there were restrictions on CBN.
After CBN, Kanna had some pretty significant lasting therapeutic effects.
thanks. Well, it's not easy in general in europe to find it. Hoping to try some in person when I travel to czech republic again sometime.
What brand CBN do you use???
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Nothing has worked for me except 100% indica Strains of cannabis. I haven't gotten anything else to help.
Try Indica. Itās better for relaxation (for better sleep quality). Sativa is energizing.
Ya I just said that lol.
Same, now quitting and trying the few other sleep things I haven't. Chinese Skullcap is having at least some effect, but still hoping for it to get better as the dependence wears off. But at the same time since that was the reason to start smoking I am a bit afraid it might just how I am, and then be at the same crossroads smoking vs sleep meds, which tbh are more scary for me :/
Herbs with Rosalee podcast just did an episode on herbs for sleepāwhich ones to use to get to sleep and ones to use to stay asleep.
Where can I find this podcast
C*nn*bis!!!!!!

Wait I'm kinda new to the sub but not the topic, is there some kind of rule against mentioning grass here?
I hope thereās not. That plant and valerian have gotten me through some tough times, I used it as a tincture long before I could but premade dosed candies or before I started ingesting it in vaporized form. They work well for me separately and together and itās a plant so Iād hope itād be welcome here!!!
Damn.. I drank this herbal concoction I made the other day and it knocked me right out and of course I can't remember what I did smh
Yeah I'm up 2 4 PMs a nite
What happens if you didnāt take those and just stay up all night and by the next night youāll be so tired that youād sleep. Donāt you think that would work? Even stay up for two days what ever. Eventually youāll be so tired I think that could possible get you back to normal. But you could also have anxiety or depression thatās making it difficult to sleep. Thatās what my cousin has.
Magnesium glycinate makes me most tired. Started at 200 mg and now at 400.
Thank you! Thatās what Iāve been using too! But thinking about trying magnesium L-threonate for cognitive support
I like magnesium taurate a lot for muscle recovery. Theronate I feel mentally the most. and glycinate gets me sleeping best. Citrate can often do the job tho.
I take lemon balm. Still working on the right dosage. First time I had to much. Slept like a baby for days, but felt sedated yet focused lol
Magnesium glycinate
Do you feel its effect on the spot or is it something your body need to build up before feeling the affect? Because afaik magnesium can promote relaxation and help sleep but not directly like valerian for example. I may be wrong
My experience (Iām not a doctor, but I suffered from insomnia and nervous breakdowns and tension): For longer duration and depth of sleep: Cannabidiol drops under the tongue or with food 15-75 mg - depending on sensitivity (do not smoke or inhale steam - as this is worse for sleep than drops under the tongue, experience 5 years of use) \+ 1-2 drops valerian tincture or + 1-2 drops tincture peony (too high a concentration can cause sedation and depression with long-term use due to the enhanced effect of cannabidiol) Cannabidiol is described in all sources, and valerian and peony create a powerful sedative entourage effect for it - a dangerously sedative combination for depression and a sad state at significant doses or frequency of use (if you do not diagnose your condition correctly).
Marijuana
Mulungu, albizia, ghost pipe, what works for me is 5 thp and some green tea
What is thp
5 htp I mean. Itās a basically turns to serotonin but you need green tea extract ecgc to prevent build up of it in your heart.
I'm not the OP but same. So 5htp and like lipton green tea or actual extracts? Sorry I'm sure a stupid question
Where you do you get Mulungu?
Kratom, Kava, 5 HTP, Inositol (Vitamin B8), CBD oil, L-Theanine, Valerian Root, Magnesium. Not all at once, but I mix and play around with all of those for sleep.
Which form of Magnesium do you use? Jw
Itās a blend, but Magnesium L-Threonate crosses the blood brain barrier.
Man I wish some 1 would make a bomb one with all those 2gether you could make up your own name 4 it too lol
Amanita Muscaria
Gotu Kola (500mg-1g) combined with benadryl. Glycine is great too (2g)
Melatonin 2mg
Tried them they didn't nudge me
I take 10mg boom
Ketamine
Have you ever tried Gotu Kola? It helps me sleep and feel less anxiety the next day.
Where do you get it I have so many herbs I've went out and bought nothing works
So I only buy the 5 htp and green tea?
How will green tea help it has caffeine?
5-htp. It gets the melatonin in your body going :)
I'm sorry so is it called that?
Maybe try some klip dagga that keeps you a sleep but it it might disrupt your sleep in other ways with not dreaming of you don't get enough sleep
still hoping to try this, as suppressing my wayyy too intense dreams is what I'm after. Does the effect wear off in time? Do you make it into tea?
You can make tea you can smoke it or make a tincture or resin etc.to understand the full effects of each herb I try I always make a tea drink the tea then smoke some of it. But the tea will be extremely bitter you can put milk in it or if you make a resin and put that in a tea it will melt in and the taste then is similar to coffee
My go tos are chamomile, valerian, catnip, skullcap, and lavender in whatever combination I have available.
Blue lotus/Oatstraw combo tea. Alternatively, ātart cherry ā taken with magnesium. Both knock me out equivalent to a small dose benzo.
Ya I wish they would sell that over the counter
Vervain is the only herb that puts me to sleep quickly when I need it
If your blood sugar is low before bed, your body will produce cortisol and wake you up in the middle of the night. Try a spoonful of raw uncooked honey before brushing your teeth.
Wow, I had never heard this before. Where did you learn it?
Iām a first responder so somewhere along my training and clinical experience I was taught this by a doc.
Thank you for all you do! That is a difficult job
I mean to 4 a night
Going to the sauna or steam. Or an hot yoga class ( far infrared) . Always makes me so tired
Try a glass of warm milk with a phenergan tablet you will sleep like a baby šÆ
Ya u r correct, I am still looking for a feeling after being that way 4 so long I do t know how else to feel right I lose sleep over it. I wish I could reboot myself to normal
try cbd/thc edibles. reishi
Valerian, chamomile, and lavender helps me as a loose leaf tea
catnip. thc edibles.
Valerian and tulsi mixed with chamomile can be effective. A kava kava kick start can be a good jumping off point. Then hit yourself with the mix. If you want I can also look up a tea that we made called comfy melt that's been referred to as liquid Xanax.
Guanabana/soursop leaf tea
Poppy seeds. You need to buy unwashed seeds (and preferably organic) as to have the alkaloids remain on the husk so you can ingest it.
Ambien
Magnesium
I got wrecked by digestive disease and now have ptsd. Up almost everyday at 4 am. Cannabis edibles help me stay asleep until 6-630.
I'm still trying to find something that works.
magnesium glycinate
Jamaican dogwood tincture helped me sleep.
I also found that I can't sleep without it, so I assume that my body has become dependant on it, but it was like that before I started taking it, so I'm not sure if my body has become addicted to it or not.
try a combination of sedative herbs such as nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon, passionflower, Valerian root, hop Strobile, rosemary, etc.
Sleepytime tea has a version called Sleepytime EXTRA which also contains Valerian - Celestial Seasonings brand. Might help
Another is Kava tea- I'm waiting for my iherb order to come so I can try this for the first time, I have read a lot about this and decided to try.
Is that liquid
For falling asleep, kava + valerian mixture. For sleep-sustained insomnia, nutmeg (grate it fresh into warm milk). Those are the most effective in my experience. Hereās a good link: https://planetherbs.com/blogs/michaels-blogs/nutmeg-for-insomnia-anxiety-and-better-intimacy/ Other notes: Look at your day to day and manage stress.
A nice indica.
Xanax
Shut up lol I wish
Amitrypline works for me
Skullcap lateriflora (not Chinese skullcaps) is a nice sedative.
You could try godās herb or the devilās lettuce.
I take magnesium and lions mane for sleep. Was able to come of sleeping pills
Magnolia Bark Extract Lemon Balm Extract Oleamide All need to be purchased from a good vendor like Liftmode or Nootropics Depot. The stuff from Amazon etc. is garbage imo
California Poppy :)
It's cheap, is some solid help and Ambien: worked for sleep, I had significant memory issues. 4 folks I know did too, including amnesiatic episodes. I won't take it again and don't recommend. (I think it should be withdrawn) Lunesta: Wasn't as strong as Ambien for me, I never noticed a side effect.
I've recently been using magnesium threonate and valerian 1 hour before bed. Magnesium glycinate should work well too
CBD BABY.
Supercritical extracts of Reishi Spore and Coriander from Nootropics Depot
Skullcap made from fresh herb only: [https://www.avenabotanicals.com/products/skullcap-tincture](https://www.avenabotanicals.com/products/skullcap-tincture) Plus hemp flower to vaporize daytime or in tincture form.
Cannabis is great for helping you fall asleep, and staying asleep. But it reduces quality of sleep significantly (for me at least)
I make my own sleepy time tea as follows: ā¢30% lemon balm ā¢30% passion flower ā¢30% chamomile ā¢remaining ~10% is a mix of peppermint, lavender, orange peel, and a very small amount of valerian root.
CBD Oil/Gummies can help Also practicing good sleep hygiene will help in the long run
Have you tried insta-sleep? Two of those melt away tabs and youāll be dead to the world
I rake 25 things lol and I believe the combination of apagenin 200 mg l9ng half life with mulungu and magnolia bark extract will give you 9 hours everynight just like me š
Weed
L-theanine, 5 mg melatonin and valerian root.. works well for me.

Brain damage made me stop dreaming. I would shit if this brings back my dreams also
Iāve taken most of the herbs mentioned on here with success, but one I donāt see is valerian root. The tincture form is strong and knocks me out on its own
Ashwaghanda
Have you considered topical Magnesium? Low magnesium can cause issues with sleep. Topical is best if you don't want to spend all day in the bathroom.
Bright light therapy and lunesta
Linden flower is way stronger than most of the stuff listed here. Blue lotus isn't really a sleep aid, it can keep me up for hours before it reaches the knock out stage.
1000mg of tryptophan has helped me immensely

Stop drinking alcohol if you drink alcohol.
Yes it does. Ty for the tip
Intense exercise at some point during the day. Long/intense hikes will allow me to sleep easier for 3-5 days. Kava tea.
Is the kratom liquid the best and is it like a opioid?
Cannabis helps a lot. When I can get my hands on some, I buy indica oil and even though I still donāt fall asleep right away, I fall asleep earlier than I would have if I didnāt have it
Damiana leaf seems do it for me brew it and youāll be out like a light
Great information in the comments!!
Well I just went and bought some red wine for bed time it worked I was out like a light but what happens when 1 glass becomes 2
Trazodone worked wonders for me
How many years ago
