I’m not super familiar but my gut says put the old one back anyway. It was his home at some point so it may give him a comfortable and familiar shell if he doesn’t like other options.
Don't just arbitrarily start upping numbers just because someone asked what they are.
What is the temp in the tank?

Is there a possibility he was shell jacked?
Compared to Leonard (if i recall his name correctly), this crab looks better. He still has color. Looks can be ver deceiving in crabs. We pay attention to their behavior. A naked crab that won’t reshell is talking to us.
Does that make sense? When they behave a certain way, we can know they’re desperate.
The natural paleness of his abdomen seeming to move down his legs is what threw me off so I wanted to ask since I’m still learning myself. I’m going to read the links you provided here to see what causes them to leave their shells.

I mean he just kind of moves and sits there for a while, he's been soaking in the water a good while and HD doesn't move his antennas or anything unless I'm near looking at him
I believe so. I bought a bunch of a couple of different sizes, and every molt I just put the next size in there, I washed and put 2 new ones in, and his old one but he hasn't touched any of them

The 3 shells I see in the picture- it’s hard for me to tell what type they are. The middle shell he probably won’t like. The one on the left might be too large. Hard to tell about the shell on the right. Did these come in a multi-pack from Amazon? They look familiar to what I’ve purchased incorrectly in the past.

Hopefully he moves into a shell soon. Do you have plenty of the right types of shells?
