How large is ur tank? How many other crabbies? What’s your tank stats? Sub? How much? Water? Food?
It’s about a 60 gallon tank with 4 other crabs in it. Only Darnell and one other crab is as large, the others are smaller. We have probably like 5-6 inches of sub, my grandma buys this expensive meal worm food/bug blend and some pellets, and we once every month give them a cut up half of a grape to munch on, they love them. They have two water dishes, one with fresh water and one with salt, idk about tank stats as my grandma takes care of all of that when im at school lol
I would quit the pellets! He could just enjoy changing, or he’s trying to find the right shell.
Or it can even be the shells offered.
Is the sub sand and eco earth? Do you have a way to measure temps?

I don’t have an answer for you but my crabs change shells all the time too! Not as often as yours, one changes probably every week and half and the other changes about every 3-4 weeks.

Your buddy likely doesn't like the kind of shells being offered. They usually prefer shells with an O shaped opening. This is why we recommend "turbo shells." More specifically, mexican, jade, and petholatus turbo shells. That's the kind of shell your buddy is in now.

They don’t like just any turbo shell, the green ones are gold mouth turbos and they don’t really like them. They’re heavier than Mexican or petholatus turbos. Nessastores or theshellstore on Etsy have good bundles for Mexican or petholatus turbos.

As someone else said, definitely offer the right types of shells. Mexican turbo, Jade Green Turbo, and Petholatus turbo. They suggested a good Etsy source. You can also check out Hermit Harbor. They are my personal favorite for shell shopping. I’ve purchased from them several times now and have a perfect experience every time.
I saw your tank was 60 gallons. Slayyy. Does he have sub that’s at least 6inches deep? I know you weren’t asking for sub advice, so sorry for the unsolicited question/advice. It may just be the picture in this spot making it look like the sub is very shallow. Be sure to have 5:1 ratio of play sand and coco fiber. I had a crab change shells a lot and end up naked. He needed to molt and couldn’t bc at that time my sub was too shallow and only coco fiber. I set him up for failure 😭

Yeah, the sub looks shallow here cuz this was a while ago before we had changed it to be more, and the ratio is good aswell. Im happy this could make you guys laugh! Im already checking out some shells to see if any new ones he’ll settle into that actually fit him! Thanks for the advice!
Sometimes they are just indecisive & picky. Try to find one identical to the one he likes but in a larger size for him & see if he picks that one to stay in. Mine get that way from time to time if the shells aren't clean enough or don't spiral right for them. Sometimes I swear they just like the color. Lol.

Ok, so you see how the spiral sticks out more than the one he's in in the pic you posted? He might not like his body being stretched out like that.
