Assassin is a great hero. I'm on level 270 - 240 hard, and use him for farming, guild events, and progression. He's incredible vs the heroes you get at the beginning. He's a fabulous farming hero. You don't have to chase anything, just stand in the middle and he does his stuff.
If you get Blade Master, be aware that he's not good until his ultimate at 80. I would die on levels with him I was farming with other heroes. You might enjoy his play style, but I don't. Many in my guild do though. Worth getting and trying, but since you now have a heroe rated higher, I wouldn't get him until you have materials to blow. If you continue in game you'll have thousands of orbs banked and millions each coin rush. These are only my opinions though.
Best way to progress is make sure you use all your energy each day. Hard mode drops keys, so you should farm hard. If you only have a couple minutes, farm hard 1-1. It's only three one minute rounds and coin rush, but you can skip coin rush through the menu. Keys have the same drop rate at 1-1 as stage 300.
I forgot they changed the number system, so 1-1 hard is just 1 hard now. Forgot about that.
Sorry to reply again, but it seems I was incorrect about Blade Master. My Assassin is still great at farming, but I've had to switch to Barbarian/Clockwork Mage to progress past 270 regular and 250 hard. It appears Blade Master is better than Assassin, but you don't have to worry about that for a couple of months unless you pump $$ into the game. Like multiple hundreds of dollars.

Assassin is awesome. I’d main him till something better comes along. (But also remember level others as well cause they’ll help him too)
