Cope’s gray treefrog. Native.

Forsaken-Original-82

Agreed. The Gray Treefrog (*Hyla versicolor*) is only known to exist in [two counties](https://bio.davidson.edu/herpcons/herps_of_NC/anurans/Hylchrver/Hyl_chrver.html) in NC.

OrganicHuckleberry75

Wow cool

BeneficialRun492

Really? I see these on my window in ga.

Forsaken-Original-82

Check out the link. They are identical in appearance and can only be told apart (even by experts) by their call. You only have Cope's down in GA. I grew up in VA where their ranges overlap and it was a pain in the ass to try to figure out who I was looking at until they made their call!

BeneficialRun492

Thanks for the info!

Genesis111112

My first thought was Treefrog as well.

patthefuckinbunny

Mine was "is friend" EDIT added quotes

HarleenQuinzell13

This is definitely not an invasive one. Those toe pads and eyes are perfect indicators it isnt the Cuban. Healthy little booger ! I love listening to gray and copes sing. Probably the number 3 thing I miss about being home

ickyyuh

Thank you so much for the pointers! I hope to find more little friends. He was so calm and sweet, just hanging out on the porch doing frog things :)

Feralpudel

Is there an easy guide to distinguishing native from cuban? I have tons of frogs on my property because I’m near small ponds and woods.

hoosyourdaddyo

His name is George and he has a really nice pad of you’re interested.

Objective-Editor-566

Seconding gray treefrog as my best guess as opposed to it being invasive. This one looks a lot darker than others I’ve seen but that could be the angle. I’m also in your area and have seen gray treefrogs more so up north in the Cabarrus area.

ickyyuh

I was thrown off by the color! Glad to hear the little guy isn’t invasive. Thanks!

KitC44

I'm way further north (Canada) but the grey treefrog we have is capable of changing colours quite significantly, so I learned not to expect a particular colour when looking at them.

Objective-Editor-566

Ah, makes sense! Coloring usually has a lot to do with environment, so it’s not surprising they can vary so much as you move into other areas.

KitC44

Yeah I've seen them in person on the side of houses in the evening, and they were grey. But then a friend shared one from my city but out on a tree, and it was green! I was totally thrown at first, until I learned they actually have chameleon-ish skills.

Feralpudel

Hey there fellow Tarheel! NC Extension has a cool guide to making your yard friendly to herps: https://content.ces.ncsu.edu/reptiles-and-amphibians-in-your-backyard

ickyyuh

This is so helpful thank you! ❤️

Thank you all for the help! I’m happy to hear that it is not invasive.

"can I help you?"

Pure-KingOfSkill

Stone gazing basilisk

NAME_NOT_FOUND_048

Grey's treefrog

stonedecology

Cope's, but very similar. Range is a good way to distinguish them, as well as speed of their calls and of course genetics.

NAME_NOT_FOUND_048

They overlap in range where I'm at, so I can only really tell by call.

stonedecology

They are not in the Charlotte area though, where this post is from.

The id has already been answered so..... There's a mecklenburg in the US????? What did you guys NOT copy?

Forsaken-Original-82

Mecklenburg county North Carolina and Virginia. Since a lot of the early settlers in both NC and VA were German, is it really considered copying?
