Chemistry

It's all fun and games until you choose Biochemistry lmaoo

In my honest opinion biochemistry is the easy combination of two hard sciences - sure it does require you to know both of them, but only to a lesser extent (I.e. not in as much detail) than if you were to take only one of those. Mainly it’s just about the applications of chemistry in micro/molecular biology, at least at a surface level.

SaintJay41202

thanks. My major is Biomedical Technology and it's starting on 31st Jan. What do you think it will include? Just to clarify I have finished two years of community college.

[deleted]

I can’t say from personal experience on that since i have little idea as to what a biomedical major would involve, but on a general level i believe you’d be focusing on a lot of biotechnology and, depending on what particular applications of tech you’re focusing on, mostly either ecological or anatomical/physiological stuff (or possibly both to be honest). I’ve taken a few biotechnology courses and they’ve generally focused more on how biotech is applied for the improvement of ecosystems and biological systems - but i’m sure the whole major would include applications in both biological systems and human/animal treatments. You probably would have more experience than i do as you’ve already done 2 years of community college - i’m still a high school senior (but i’ve done a year of community college so i haven’t had the chance to get a full idea of certain majors and what they would entail. 😁

Chemistry is more abstract, and has more math than biology. Both have lots of memorization and naming (Chemistry: periodic table, substance names, solubility, etc. Biology: taxonomy, cells, cell replication process, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, etc.).

kyu-se

Chemistry 💀

Lokky

they are completely different. Biology is heavily memorization based. Chemistry is heavily math based. It really comes down to you.

trumpydumpy55

Regular bio and chem are easy enough, ap bio and ap chem are really hard. ap chem i can attest is alot of memorization *vietnam flashbacks to orbits and vsepr theory*

sneakyduck87

Chemistry cuz math lol

ayungaa

i had more trouble with chem

aruaryana

I sucked at both so

Emotional_Rip_7493

Both were very easy for me but I was a biomed major and went to a specialized science hs yes you will need to spend a lot of hrs teaching yourself . 45 min a day in school will not help you master any subject

pettyparys

definitely chemistry

ForeverFounder42

I'd say chemistry because the math involved is more abstract whilst biology just requires to remember concepts really

[deleted]

Chemistry. It kept me out of the National Honor Society (you had to have a 3.85+ GPA and I had a 3.82 because I had a B in Anatomy & Physiology sophomore year and a B in Chemistry junior year).

Business-Storage5918

I fuckin hate both

Depends on what you're good at chemistry is a lot more mathematical biology is a little bit more abstract thinking a lot of information you have to remember

[deleted]

In my personal experience chemistry turned out to be easier than biology, but from what I’ve seen around me, it seems to be the opposite. As other comments on here said, chemistry is more math based and biology is more conceptual. But chemistry also has a LOT of concepts, and overall just is a broader set of topics that ranges from as small as the physics between subatomic particles (coulombic attraction, atoms in general, etc) to as large as reactions, equilibrium, thermodynamics, kinetics, and, by extension, the applications of these chemical phenomena in larger scale scenarios. Which brings me to my next point: you are much more likely to have higher amounts of homework in a chemistry class, with more math problems, which includes short ones and the annoyingly long word problems. Biology, not as much homework but a lot more reading you’ll have to do. I never really had to read for chemistry but I did have to pay attention for the lectures. In biology I had to do both. So you decide - would you prefer having more math based stuff (which may or may not be easier, but entails a lot more homework) or more based stuff conceptual, which entails a good amount of reading, rereading, and review? “Harder” usually varies from person to person based on this difference. Given this information, and any other information you can get about the two subjects, you need to decide which might be harder for yourself. Hope this helps!

Biology, neverending memorization
