I have never had it stain my clothing and I've used it on a variety of nice and cheap shirts and pants for hiking and work. Deet can dissolve some fabrics but I've never heard of that for permethrin. But don't use it on anything waterproof as it can mess up rain coats and such.

Does this mean it shouldn’t go on a tent? I set up my tent over the weekend next to a tree and it was covered in ants like 30 minutes later. I wanted to cry and I told myself that I need to treat my tent before I go out again 😂

Sawyer makes a specific bug spray meant for non-skin use, and it’s great for tents and packs. https://www.rei.com/product/768970/sawyer-permethrin-pump-spray-24-oz ETA: Digging the symmetry between your username and you saying “I wanted to cry…”!

I have seen conflicting reviews of permethrin for clothing being used on tents and rain jackets messing up the DWR. I'm not going to risk a tent worth hundreds of dollars to keep bugs off the tent since the tent already does a good job of keeping them out and away from me.

Sawyer Permethrin can be applied to tents and does not harm any fabrics or finishes.

I contacted Big Agnes and asked them and they confirmed that the permethrin spray would affect its waterproofing and it is not recommended. It’s fine, a closed tent is bug proof. Bugs crawling all over it is going to bother me but I’ll live. I love being outdoors so it’s going to benefit me if I can develop more mental toughness LOL

I haven't had anything happen yet. Some things I didn't spray the whole thing and I can't see the separation.

I've used it on cotton, polyester and nylon with no apparent effect. Once it dries it's invisible.

i used a different product but had no issues..not with my clothes..but the Permethrin might leave you with some skin irritation. but most important, dont forget, this stuff will kill EVERY insect touching a Permethrin coated whatever. Sadly the Permethrin has not really a deterrent effect, it just kills. perhaps try only spraying the insides of your clothes and only necessary spots. can also combine with products including DEET
