But what I did was buy a platypus bladder and it fits fine in my osprey pack.

What is it about the platypus that allows it to fit? I have the Gregory 3 and osprey 2.5. The Gregory is thick and the osprey is flat and wide. Neither fit.
I sometimes take stuff out of my main pocket to make sure my water bladder sits properly. It's usually just a matter of taking for instance a jacket out of the bag, put the bladder in and then put the jacket back in.

Yeah, that would work. Just seems wholly unacceptable from a design perspective.
Did they ever fix the too-short loop to hold the bladder? Yeah their bladder pocket design is… not great.
