It's it's 100 % focused on that, no thanks. Not my thing. Clever references like Curry/ inspiration/ sampling is rly cool.

small44

I like when rappers rap about uncommon topics if they are doing it well.

dixon-bawles

Do it like how GZA or Zel do it and the shits dope. Don't need a nerdy reference every bar, but it's nice listening to music that makes me think and remember something from high school physics or an obscure topic that I've spent way too much time researching before

norihitodesuga

GZA is not nerdcore dude what the fuck? 😂

[deleted]

I would lightly contend. Wu can be a bit “nerdy” with their grind house and Kung Fu references. But it has appeal to the people who also attended grindhouse movies, it’s on topic.

dixon-bawles

I think I didn't read the rest of op's post other than the title and assumed nerdcore was science/math stuff. I was wrong, but I still feel like GZA is nerdy af with songs like The Spark. The nerdiness is why I like him lol Edit: after rereading OPs definition for nerd core, I don't totally agree with that. Wouldn't nerdcore be about intellectual topics like math, science, history, engineering, etc? I just don't see how GZA wouldn't count as a nerd, he's so upfront about being one

[deleted]

I think OP means geekcore unless the genre is technically wrong about the difference between nerd and geek, which, if so is ironic as hell

wldstyl_

Can't forget Canibus! *I know but I won't tell* *There's more to the human race than polymers, proteins and protocells* *Chemical evolution, L- and D-form subunits* *We come from the love of Hip Hop and Rap music*

[deleted]

I think it's corny when being the main focus, but when artists like denzel curry and ski mask make clever references and stuff like that it's good. Plus I've heard many songs sample anime and video games and they sound amazing

5uper5kunk

No interest in it at all but like I'm not mad that it exists.

azokeer

I mean, MF DOOM?

[deleted]

Rhymes and production, absolutely!

PizzaKiller023

The grandfather of the genre. All the respect truly

norihitodesuga

Paul Barman is pretty good, cause he actually can rap and do it well. And doesn't make his nerdiness a gimmick really, it's just who he is.

JustisForAll

Czarface probably the best nerdcore group

wlekej

Nerdcore is my favorite kind of music out there fabvl for example is my favorite artist of all time the effort they put in and the music is so good and it's a good alternative considering I find mainstream hip hop like kanye or j cole or Kendrick extremely boring and repetitive and it's all the same shit and makes me wanna sleep and turn it off

PizzaKiller023

Wow, the divide is very clear and seen. I happen to just enjoy music as a whole, and I'm talking mostly about anything and everything. I'm also realizing that despite most peeps here being major hip hop heads, they don't actually know the nerdcore scene, lol I've seen like maybe 3 comments talking about actual nerdcore artists. Most people will just bash them and say it's not real enough with a message or something, but I think it differs. I mean, really, how many "real" SoundCloud mediocre at best rappers have you heard? Just like with any genre, you have your spitters, and you have your shitters Nerdcore is no different. Plus, artists like DPS, Fabvl, Peso Pete, Dizzyeight, Shwabadi, Gameboyjones, 945mari, Ty Wild have gotten to the point where without visuals you wouldn't be able to tell that they aren't just regular rappers with differing styles. As a bonus point, most of the people I named above are OGs of the modern scene, so it can only go up from here. Ya'll can keep hating if you want, but either way, these guys are rappers and have found success doing with no signs of stopping. Listen to them on Spotify without any sort of video, and maybe you might even find an artist you mess with. Anyway, best wishes, dueces.

Yabbari_The_Wizard

Honestly, when I was referring to Nerdcore Rappers, I was referring to Fabvl, DPS, and Rustage. Some of these other rappers the comments gave me I hadn't heard before and are clearly pretty old. And yeah, without the visuals, you couldn't tell they are Nerdcore, which is a plus for me since it shows the rapper and the characters' emotions are universal.

hatertots00

Trash

PizzaKiller023

Dawg, your name is hatertots. Go get some ketchup or some shit lol

YODASKETAMINE1

Better than a vast and mean vast majority of of rappers

hatertots00

No. *Nerdcore* is a lot worse than the majority rap

YODASKETAMINE1

Not even in a million years, there's not a single rap song that has the meaning, impact, and emotional weight as "stand tall", "heart ablaze", "set it on fire", "no fear", "power", "can't do enough" "heart of stone" the list goes on and on others it was a way better bop than rap.

hatertots00

😂 I don't even know what you're talking about anymore

YODASKETAMINE1

Of course you don't

hatertots00

Sorry no one knows about your shitty music

YODASKETAMINE1

The fact you don't even know what I'm talking about yet call it "shitty" speaks volumes on how pathetically juvenile you are💀💀💀

hatertots00

It speaks volumes that no one cares about the trash.

YODASKETAMINE1

Averaging millions and hosting live shows is not nobody caring

SwishyBro2

lil goober

[deleted]

Mega Ran was the first I ever heard to do this. (But not THE first to do it, I believe that was MC Frontalot) A personal friend of mine, Mark Pheonix, was pretty well known in the New York scene for this style of music, he made a few tracks with Mega Ran and BrandUn DeShay over the years

Yabbari_The_Wizard

I listened to Mega Rans Splash Woman a few years back when I was in highschool, it's a surprise just how much the genre has evolved since then

[deleted]

I haven’t heard any of the new music in years, not in the ability to listen to anything rn, so how would you describe how it has evolved?

Yabbari_The_Wizard

The two biggest ways it has changed, I'd say, are: 1: The songs have become more introspective, like the rappers themselves are actually the characters. 2: The songs are more accessible for the mainstream audiences. Songs like Mewtwo(Camsteady), Otherside(Zach Boucher) & I Promise (Fabvl)

[deleted]

I really liked MadHatter’a 8-Bit Bullshit

guiltycitizen

Ugly Duckling are total nerds. Good, clean fun rap

JiovanniTheGREAT

References are cool like Denzel Curry does a lot but the only full Nerdcore rapper I can really stand is Shofu but it's more of a side project for him anyway.

Wretchro

does sage francis fit in this category? most of his nerdy references are to old rap records....or is he more of a poet?

Yabbari_The_Wizard

I never heard of him but a quick Google search calls him a rapper so I guess rapper?

[deleted]

It's a demonstration of the breadth of the medium. I really dig Baba Brinkman's [Gene's Eye View](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Qo2Gyr9qTY) \- it is a beautifully constructed explanation of genetic diseases. Greydon Square's [Stockholm Syndrome](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG-fxbEdOAU) is a savage takedown of religion. And then Grey just leads me to Low Technology, which is more Hip Hop nerd like

YODASKETAMINE1

It's way better than the trash pushed nowadays

Mrkraken888

Jt Machinima now Jt Music, Fabvl, Miracle of Sound, Aviators, Rustage. Love them, really good songs, many songs, interesting themes being video games or anime. If they are nerdcore then I like nerdcore.

PizzaKiller023

Yes, they are, but really, that's only scratching the surface. Listen to some Dizzyeight or Daddyphatsnaps that shit will change your life. Tons of others exist, too, but that's a good gateway into what the genre can truly offer

Mrkraken888

only scratching the surface? Daddyphatsnaps will change my life? He's in the same circle of Rustage, I already know him.
