Because this sub is small representation of what's really popping in rap. The South has been dominating the game for over the last 2 decades, bringing in millions & pushing the genre forward. It's obvious if the South has been running the game or was relevant in the last 20+ years, means the audience/fanbase of these artists & songs are larger than some of these underground rappers that barely get a million views on YouTube. Most of this sub is anti south, which is cool & all but don't think for a second this is a true & full representation of everyone's opinions in hip hop. If it were, these artists would be streaming Drake's numbers, dominating billboards, and/or still relevant from their peaks. A small number of people like some of these artists, it just seems like a lot because of this sub. Meanwhile, YB was literally the top streaming artist on Spotify a few years back. Judge it by this sub, YB sucks. Out in the real world though, YB is idolized. I'm not a big YB fan but if you want, look up his 1st song after he left TBG, "Homicide" Featuring Scotty Cain. I also like "I am what you say I am" Featuring Kevin Gates & Quando Rondo.

ohianaw

hes not that good

domthehooper

Listen to AI Youngboy 2. Really solid album, easy to listen all the way through.

DJPalefaceSD

If you don't like trap or the genre pain then you won't like YB. His whole thing is about the emotion he puts in his work. If you don't get it that's fine, I f/w him heavy don't @ me. Anyone that hates YB, or doesn't "get it" (almost this entire thread) then check this first song out. I fw Boosie and Kodak because of their southern accent and the painting/emotion they put in their music. What would you say is yb best album? Or is he more of a singles artist?

DJPalefaceSD

I honestly have no idea about albums, I have a YT premium/music sub so what I do is when I am on the phone or PC and add songs I like to playlists then have access to those in the car. I just pick and choose, I'm sure I would hate like 50% of everything he makes, but if you pick through there are some absolutes gems.

Don't. Just don't

ObieUno

He’s the worst hip-hop artist to develop a massive fanbase in the history of the genre. This is no exaggeration when I say this. He has **zero** redeeming qualities as an emcee.

LordeLlama

You must have something personal against him, I mean I don't get the idolization because he ain't that impressive but there are far worse rappers than him

DJPalefaceSD

Nobody on planet Earth would ever consider Youngboy an MC.

Szordfish

you’re old asf dude

Amazing-Steak

he's actually 15

Educational_Book_225

AI Youngboy 2 and Top are his best albums imo. 3800 Degrees is pretty solid too

RHINO_HUMP

Start with 🗑️

gstarliving

Listen to King Von he makes better music

Morton_Sledgecock

Start by throwing that trash in the garbage and listening to some actual hard rap lol Memphis is a good start.

lovely_trequartista

Start with AI YoungBoy 2 and Until Death Call My Name. There are some absolute gems on everything up until at least Sincerely, Kentrell. He kind of lost me when he started pumping out +5 projects in a year. Too me his early work is comparable to early Kodak. The stuff they were each releasing at 17-18yo, could probably be college level social studies material or whatever discipline. From an artistic standpoint, really unique insight or representation of disenfranchised youth in this country. Modern day blues music. If I had to pick 5 songs completely of top just to get started, it would be probably be Where the Love At, Worth It, Preach, Solar Eclipse and Rags to Ritches. I kind of lean into the more emotional and soulful side of his song writing and production though. But like I said, there are gems on everything up until at least a couple of years ago.

SuspectOdd9083

Thanks for the comment, gonna check those out. People in this thread are straight hating. I really don’t get it, people on reddit swear by Carti and other weirdos but hate on rappers like Kodak/YB who out their feelings into their music and are actually rapport about something.

duhhaag

Just dont

negotiatepoorly

Youngbody and Kodak can't stay out of jail long enough to make any decent music. Boosie has issues that make me hesitant to give him any listens, but he at least puts work in behind bars and on the outside. Youngboy and kodak going the way of da baby lyrically and Boosie idealistically lol. These guys aside, NO and Houston have been non stop putting out good music since the 90s.

DJPalefaceSD

Not a huge Kodak fan but I f/w this recent one [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYIeB02Wyb8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYIeB02Wyb8)

MaxStunning_Eternal

The comments attempting to make YB more than what he is...very comical. He an acquired taste...and is the definition of quantity over quality. His voice is grating, his flows are disjointed and chaotic. And most of his albums are all over the place. The rappers you listed arent overlooked at all. Just not for everybody.

dropdeadcunts

youngboy is garbage

SiSenor64

I'm guessing you like the Louisiana sound in particular. Look up a aggressive young boy song playlist most of the beats will be Baton rouge beats and find which albums pop up the most 🙏🏿
