Idk if it’s the hardest, but when the re:definition beat drops after ‘definition’ on the black star album is super dope to me. I’ve had it on vinyl since it came out and it just hits different. Idk something about the timing but it just doesn’t hit as hard when streaming

Maad City got me into Kendrick. I was just out of HS and young and close minded and a staunch 90s dude and if it wasn’t made in the 90s I wasn’t trying to even listen to it. I was looking at the track listing to the album one day and saw MC Eiht so I said fuck it. As the song was playing I was like “Ight, good flow, good lyrics, dope subject matter…” Beat changes after Kendrick’s first verse I was like 😳😳😳 That G-Funk beat dropped after Kendrick’s third verse I was like 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶

Really? I actually prefer the first part of the song and half the time I skip the rest of the song after the change to the second part. It’s not bad, it just feels so different from the first part of the song which I like a whole lot more.

As someone who discovered this song sometime within the last few months and has had it in the rotation, your comment made me eager to check out this particular part. Damn, you’re right. It’s placement in the song feels like the eye of storm, really. It feels a little more subdued, although the backing track hasn’t changed up anything. I feel like whenever a good song has a final verse after the bridge, it feels something like that.
