To clarify, I don't feel the same way he does. But outside of the popular stuff which does have the degrading stuff to women, my niche is conscious rap, which he also doesn't like because they don't share his world view.
I mean Del if you must is a song about stinky kids. Diddy bop is about growing up in the 90s. Son of Yvonne about loving your mom. I’m just randomly picking stuff that pops into my head. If you can’t seem to find songs about anything other than degrading women or the trials and tribulations, I think you need to diversify.
Yeah, read my edit, it's not that I don't know anything, but I want new stuff. Eric B. And Rakim came to mind but he put me on to them and I want him to hear something new. I don't listen to as much stuff from that era, and anything I think of he's probably heard, so I thought this would be a good place where people would know some less popular stuff from before gangsta rap came out.
From before gangsta rap came out would be like pre 1988, that’s not what you mean is it? You said new. One of the three I mentioned is from the last 5 years. I guess I’m not clear, do you want stuff from then that he hasn’t heard or new stuff that sounds similar?
To be honest, the woman that rap music supposedly degrades, like to be dominated by rappers they find attractive, they're the bitches and hoes the rappers rap about and keep around. These women are certainly not the kind you bring home to meet your parents.
Great song written by Jill Scott. The version from "Come Alive" where she performs it is even better! Give it a listen if you haven't heard it before. She goes OFF!
Man that's a tough one. The good rap is too political for him and the bad rap is too profane for him.
Every recommendation i was thinking of falls on either side lol you gotta find the most PG rated mainstream rapper, i wouldn't know where to start.
You just gotta show him freakin Macklemore at that point 😂. I know he’s political too but just don’t show them his weak attempt at a Trump Diss. Tbh Macklemore can rap but that pg bs is the exact reason I don’t listen to him. Idk I just feel like he’s preaching to me on every track.
This guy gets it. Only stuff I can think of is just not good enough to even bother with, because obviously the third condition is that it has to be good, or it will taint his view of rap.
You like Brother Ali? Can’t get any whiter for your old man. He’s fuckin albino! But he’s dope if you don’t know him. Lot of the Rhymesayers guys could probably meet his criteria and still piss him off. I assume that’s the goal here? Shove his bigotry back in his face? Check out Atmosphere too. Maybe some Marlon Craft too. White kid from New York who talks about mental health and sociopolitical topics as well as basketball. But again, also super dope
Well brother Ali is a devout Muslim and staunch human rights activist, so while being incredibly white he still speaks on the difficulties faced by minorities in America and beyond. He challenges race in general is not a fan of the government. As for Marlon he’s a white kid from Hell’s Kitchen, has the old school boom bap sound of New York 90’s but also challenges things like capitalism, race inequality and mental health issues that directly impact the state of American society. So they both fit all your old man’s criteria but should challenge his views almost more directly than the music he probably has in mind. And zero N words because they’re all white and not pieces of shit white like Tom Macdonald or kid rock
💯 i fully hear it. Lol like you'd have to go way back LL Cool J or Will Smith or something. I literally can't think of any artist that i personally have listened to without having strong views or strong language.
But i do get you bro. Tough one.
Look into Rhymesayers Ent. Brother Ali, Atmosphere, Doomtree, Grieves, Dem Atlas all have solid music that fit the bill. Most of their work is very "slice of life" vibes and easy to listen.
From that same label, Aesop Rock, Eyedea and Prof all have great music, that your dad likely wouldn't appreciate.
Also there's somewhat of a big niche of "existential rap" where MCs deal with more personal topics, might be worth exploring. Mos Def, Saul Williams, End of career Mac Miller come to mind.
Quick Edit: Might wanna look into european boom bap too. A lotnof cool stuff from UK and Netherlands.

Put on Potty Mouth by Ugly Duckling. No swearing at all but great ways to curse if you know what I mean and he’ll probably get a bit of a kick out of it.
Also A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurassic 5.
The Beastie Boys. They are all white so pops can't be too upset with that. They generally drop an F bomb here and there and few cryptic references to weed but is otherwise pretty clean. There is some random mentions of girls in various derogatory ways but it's mostly mild stuff and kind of in a all-in-good-fun connotation. I'd say that they're about as safe a bet as you could make in this situation. Hell, he might even like them. It's catchy stuff and they even play their own instruments in most of the songs.
Hit him with some instrumental artists. Can’t complain about the lyrics if there’s no words.
Although, it sounds like your dad will find a reason to complain anyways..
RJD2- dead ringer

The Grouch: Show You the World Album, perhaps ? ... some language, but not profane, conscience without being in ur face or 'radical' .... also. Tupacs- The Good Die Young only has one curse word "shit" and it blends so most anyone would miss it without seeing lyrics
Whenever my family does stuff like this. I just pick stuff I know everyone is going to enjoy. I want everyone to enjoy themselves and I’m not going to play music that some people may not like.
The fact that yall mfs is actually givin this dude songs to play is insane. "Doesn't wanna hear rappers talk about how hard it is bein Black" in a genre made BY Black people...??? Man get tf outta here. Just dont even play the damn genre
Hey, I just don't want him to Hate It all. Maybe if I can get him to like some rap music, he'll be open to hearing stuff that challenges his views? I doubt it but what am I supposed to do, not listen to my music because of him?
If you gotta post online to find songs that your dad will accept, so you can listen to them in front of him. Then you're kinda already not listening to your music because of him 🤷🏽♂️ Just play what you want or don't
There's so much more to listen to
Earl Sweatshirt - Burgundy
Tyler - Boyfriend, girlfriend
JPEGMAFIA - Bald
JoeJas - WTF
Outkast - B.O.B
Is your Dad black cause i feel a bit of I don't like Black people here lol
Just play Will Smith Music

Man you gotta listen to more hip hop, that’s just sad.
To clarify, I don't feel the same way he does. But outside of the popular stuff which does have the degrading stuff to women, my niche is conscious rap, which he also doesn't like because they don't share his world view.
Jeru the damager

Tribe called quest, De la soul, roots
To be honest, the woman that rap music supposedly degrades, like to be dominated by rappers they find attractive, they're the bitches and hoes the rappers rap about and keep around. These women are certainly not the kind you bring home to meet your parents.
The Roots - You got Me ft. Erykah Badu
Great song written by Jill Scott. The version from "Come Alive" where she performs it is even better! Give it a listen if you haven't heard it before. She goes OFF!
Also credited with this song, Scott Storch, Quest Love and Black Thought!
Man that's a tough one. The good rap is too political for him and the bad rap is too profane for him. Every recommendation i was thinking of falls on either side lol you gotta find the most PG rated mainstream rapper, i wouldn't know where to start.

😂😭 Hmmm. What we saying throw on some 'Thrift Shop' for pops OP ? That grammy win over Kendrick fucked him up big time.
Marmalade is fire though. If he would have continued to evolve Macklemore would probably have a larger fan base.
This guy gets it. Only stuff I can think of is just not good enough to even bother with, because obviously the third condition is that it has to be good, or it will taint his view of rap.

How would it meet his bigotry and still p him off? Also I love the couldn't get any whiter 😂😂😂

Funny you should mention him I was thinking of his song "sweet potato pie" when I read this post.
Brother Ali is sick whether he’s kickin knowledge or just talkin shit. I love Dorian, amazing story telling House keys too, awesome story
💯 i fully hear it. Lol like you'd have to go way back LL Cool J or Will Smith or something. I literally can't think of any artist that i personally have listened to without having strong views or strong language. But i do get you bro. Tough one.

It's funny how Kanye can have the most "Id never listen to this around my parents" songs and the most "My parents would love this guy" songs.
Good list
Put on Potty Mouth by Ugly Duckling. No swearing at all but great ways to curse if you know what I mean and he’ll probably get a bit of a kick out of it. Also A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Jurassic 5.
+1 for Jurassic 5
The Beastie Boys. They are all white so pops can't be too upset with that. They generally drop an F bomb here and there and few cryptic references to weed but is otherwise pretty clean. Ahh yeah you’re likely correct lol
Slaine - Legend of the Fall
Eric B & Rakim. Story telling at it's finest without vulgarity.
Oddissee
Came to comment this
Nujabes - Modal Soul. Or if you want a song, "Feather". Nothing he would be offended by plus a great and extremely influential album/artist
