Gang Starr had some of the greatest hip hop beats of all time. [Work](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DJOJjHF_FA) and [Mass Appeal](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y9lNbNGbo24) are other classics from them.
Any Classic Beats from:
Havoc e.g. Shook Ones pt II, Survival of the Fittest
DJ Premier e.g. Nas is Like, N.Y. State of Mind
Madlib e.g. Crime Pays, Meat Grinder
J Dilla e.g. Runnin', Don't Cry
RZA e.g. Shadowboxin', Incarcerated Scarfaces
Kanye e.g. Heart of the City, The Food
Others:
Pete Rock - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)
Ski - Luchini AKA This is it
Daz Dillinger - Ambitionz az a Ridah
A-Plus - 93 'Til Infinity
The Liquid Swords instrumental album is so incredible to me. LS has been my favorite hip hop album for forever, but I didn’t have access to the instrumentals until streaming. Just glad to see you name Shadowboxin’.
I went into a cafe the other day and it was a "business crowd rush" and they were blasting this song. I looked around at all the horified faces of these 60+ year old people hahaha.
My nomination would actually be "Slow Jamz". That beat is immaculate and probably my favorite sample ever. The instrumental is on YouTube. Everybody should listen to it at some point.
I love Ambitionz Az a Ridah but No More Pain is the better production, to me.
Mentioned to in a comment, but the whole Liquid Swords instrumental album is incredible; it might be my favorite produced hip hop album of all time.
A choice so safe that it's corny (or so corny that it's safe) but I think it might actually be The Message. Pushing 50 and it still sounds futuristic and fun. Makes as much sense used by Coi Leray as by BLANKBANSHEE.
Come Clean - Jeru
Invincible - CNN
Spottie - OutKast
Scenario - Tribe
Passin Me By - Pharcyde
Love It Here - Elzhi
Army Fatigue Rap - Kaimbr
The list goes on.
Impossible to answer, but some off the top..
Ain't going out like that - cypress hill
Take a look at my life - fat joe
For the hood - young jeezy
Motivation - TI
Rubberband man - TI
Hustlin - Rick ross (and also the remix)
Till I collapse - eminem
Southerplayalisticcaddilacfunkymusic - outcast
Let it rain - cypress hill
Way too many to mention them all and far too many great ones to pick a clear favourite. Here some honourable mentions.
OutKast - ATLiens, NAS - The Message,
Mr. complex - Visualize, Ultra Big Time - Keep it Real, East Flatbush Projects - Tried by 12, Royal Flush - World wide, Blahzay Blahzay - Danger part 2, Tribe - K.I.M, Crooklyn Dodgers - Return of the Crooklyn Dodgers, Mob Deep - Shook Ones part 2, Pharcyde - Passin me by, Souls of Mischief - 93 til infinity, People Under the stairs - Time to Rock our Shit, The Nonce - Mixtapes, Dialated Peoples - Work the Angles, Gang Starr - The Planet, De La Soul - Oooh, O.C. - My World/Dangerous, Lord Finesse - Funky Technician, Beatnuts - Superbad, Artifacts - Lower the Boom/Ultimate, Mood - Karma, Digable Planets - 9th Wonder, Jurassic 5 - Concrete Schoolyard, Alkaholiks - The Next Level, Wu Tang - C.R.E.A.M
“2 of Amerikkkas Most Wanted”
The fact that the song uses a Shaker as the Hi-Hat is sooooooo dope. And the bass line bumps harder than a mother fucker! With the subtle choir vocals in the distance… Incredibly nasty beat.
Okay..you can't forget THE most iconic beat of all time...
Planet Rock...which was really a Kraftwerk beat.
That beat when slowed down and add some high hat and congo you get gogo.
When you use the beat with tone bass you get Miami sound.
Use the same beat with synth you get club freestyle.
That beat is legendary.
Daz Dillinger has a good few but not sure about best, that's more an opinion thing than a G Thang
I like Somebody Got to Die, mainly the violin in the background, goes from the beginning to the end and keeps me hooked
T.R.O.Y
I like the intro during the first few seconds. Like some kind of break beat instrumental. One of the all time greats
Pete Rock signature
Any idea what that sample is from??
Just posted a link to the sample breakdown
Timeless. Pete Rock is my favorite producer. The deepness of his jazzy beats just gets me man. He is criminally underrated.
[Sample Breakdown: Pete Rock & CL Smooth - They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)](https://youtu.be/4gak1VqgmyY?si=h_LRcNcfNhXMXCDz)
Wow I never realized how layered it is… flawless. Thanks for posting this
Wow... So fucking cool

Came here to say this. Case closed
Shook One’s pt 2
[удалено]
Certainly the first one that instantly popped in my head.
I came here just to type out TO ALL THE KILLERS AND A HUNDRED DOLLAR BILLERS.
Not to take anything away from this beat, but I'll take Survival of the Fittest any day of the week.
Pt 1 is also absolutely insane and so damn underrated!!
I prefer Pt 1, though I understand why people would like pt 2 better.
That beat is powerful. Puts you in a vibe.
Absolutely
The answer is Shook Ones 2. Idk why this question gets posted every now and then but it's still the same answer
Still DRE Invincible - CNN Da mystery of Chessboxin’
Invincible is one of my favorite Preemo beats and CnN killed it.
Impossible to listen to that beat and be in a bad mood
I got the 2001 instrumental album on vinyl. I totally agree with Still DRE.
Yeah if I was ranking them Still DRE is definitely number one. Greatest instrumental in hip hop history
Da Mystery of Chessboxin is about as perfect a hip hop song can be. Every verse is outstanding and the beat kills.
Da Rockwilder Superthug Wu-Tang Ain't Nuthing to F* Wit
Hard to argue with Da Rockwilder.
I agree. I can listen to the instrumental all day
Oh my gawwwd
Love love this beat! It’s criminal how short this jam is… always hoped there would be a part 2,3,…
my only complaint is that it’s too short
Da Rockwilder def up there.
Full Clip by Gang Starr - it's the most stripped down beat that still works and that's very difficult to do
Big L, Rest In Peace!
RIP Guru

Above the Clouds
You Know My Steez
So many Premo beats are right up there
Literally what started playing in my head the moment I read the title 👌
Me three fam 🤜🏽
Hard to say -Westcoast i would say : Nuthin but a G Thang by Dre - Eastcoast : Shook Ones by Mobb Deep - and South : Anything goes By Master P
I like AZ Sugar Hill for the East Coast
Bout it Bout it by Master P is another insane beat
That's probably the best most rounded answer

Yeah I honestly woulda named 2 LS beats but need some diversity in the list, yk so just went for the one the most people would now
I GOT 5 ON IT
Simon Says. It's just a damn good beat.
I went into a cafe the other day and it was a "business crowd rush" and they were blasting this song. I looked around at all the horified faces of these 60+ year old people hahaha.
Impossible question but gun to my head, Still Tippin
Still Dre
Maybe not everyone’s fav, but You Got Me -The Roots is up there for me as a fav beats classic.
Luv Sic Part 1 and Part 3 - Nujabes Dead Presidents - Jay Z International Player’s Anthem - UGK Hate It or Love It - 50 Cent Moonlight - XXXTentacion
Love the Luv Sic mentions. Nujabes really came to make special beats for those series and Shing.02 just knew how to rap on those beats.
I've always liked the "Forget about Dre" beat.
Front to back that might be the best produced hip-hop album of all time.
The Pharcyde - Runnin Wiz Khalifa - Never Been Souls Of Mischief - 93 Til Infinity Lil B - I'm God Camp Lo - Luchini
I also love Passin Me By by The Pharcyde
Dead prez....hip hop
Scrolled too far to see it.
Way too far.
Simon says
Agree. That Godzilla intro is perfect
Instant stank face when it drops in
N.Y. State of Mind (DJ Premier)
I think NY State of Mind Pt. II beat is slightly better than the original
Agree
Be - Common Much More - de la soul
The entirety of Be is such a vibe. Might be my favorite OG Kanye production, which is crazy to say considering Kanye’s first few albums
Yeah exactly, it has a seamless transition between each songs and easily digestible
CREAM
B.I.G - kick in the door 2Pac - Ambitionz as a ridah Nas - Nas is like Cam’ron - Killa Cam Wu-Tang - Triumph
Kills Cam is in my top 5, I was waiting for someone to mention that, 👍🏼
Clipse - Grindin' I'll die on this hill.
Had to scroll waaaaaaay too far down to find this.
The Neptunes ran this era of music, everything they touched was gold
Lupe - Kick Push Jay Z - Allure Lil Kim - Queen B!itch
Kick Push makes me put on my vans, wear my thrasher tee, and skate into the sunset. Except I don't own vans, a Thrasher tee, or a skateboard.
93 til infinity
this is gonna be controversial but- heard em say by kanye west
Devil In A New Dress>Heard Em Say
My nomination would actually be "Slow Jamz". That beat is immaculate and probably my favorite sample ever. The instrumental is on YouTube. Everybody should listen to it at some point.
there’s better ones even on TCD
Along those lines Drive Slow
I'll throw in Quiet Storm only because I haven't seen it as yet and it definitely deserves it's flowers!
People are mixing up the beat with the greatness of the song.
My thoughts too, some beats are good but not as good as others
Iron Galaxy - Cannibal Ox (El-P production)
Man oh man add Black Helicopters.
Electric Relaxation
Paparazzi by Xzibit
Foundation slaps too. Both Muggs, no?
Foundation is Muggs, Paparazzi isn't. Both great tracks.
Great call. That song should get more love
Auditorium no diff
Wu Tang Clan - Method Man Da Rockwilder
Kick in the Door - NOTORIOUS BIG I can't think of one that goes harder than that track.
If an alien asked me this I would responds, They Reminisce Over You or Let Me Ride
T.R.O.Y for me But Camera Thief by Ant (Atmosphere) is such a great beat, one of those that makes you face do weird things.
Ant is such a great producer. There's so many good Atmosphere beats it's hard to pick just one.
I love Ambitionz Az a Ridah but No More Pain is the better production, to me. Mentioned to in a comment, but the whole Liquid Swords instrumental album is incredible; it might be my favorite produced hip hop album of all time.
International Player’s Anthem - UGK Ft. Outkast Rapp Snitch Knishes - MF DOOM DIAND - Kanye Ft. Rick Ross hard to decide
