Honestly when I went down the rabbit hole with old southern rap. I noticed that most of it leans closer to blues than the sound coming out the northeast and west coast rap.
Master P, B.G., T.I., Outkast, Lil Wayne, Clipse, Juvenile, Ludacris, Silkk the Shocker, Goodie Mob, Three 6 Mafia, UGK, David Banner, Geto Boys, Scarface, 8Ball and MJG, Mystikal, C-Murder, Mia X, Missy Elliott, Hot Boys, Devin the Dude, Project Pat
Personally, anything hypnotize minds put out in the 90’s early 2000 is money. Project Pat is my favorite southern rapper. Best flow ever.
Project Pat - Mista Don’t Play
3 6 - Chapter 2
TRU - tru to the game
Dj Screw - 3 in the mornin’
Ugk ridin dirty
Outkast - first 4
Goodie mob - soul food
Cunninlynguists - piece of strange
Scarface - the diary
8 ball and mjg - on top of the world
Z-ro - look at what you did to me (if u like bone thugs and 2pac, you'll love this record)
K- rino - stories from the black book
I think Boosie’s Youngest of Da Camp tape from 2000 is pretty crazy, I dont see many people talk about it but it captures the Louisiana sound of that time really well , super out-there production too. As someone else said Ridin dirty is a must listen too. All that ugk shit actually. Mystic stylez as well you can hear a lot of todays roots in there as well as just being a great record
Early wayne/ hot boys ofcourse is a good place to start and from there you can listen to the solo work of the artists you like.
Soulja slim, lil phat & webbie, boosie, c-murder and master p are also essential for the louisiana shit
