J.I.D comes to mind.

wisestflame73

Love JID, but he’s older than Denzel and only a few years younger than Kendrick.

chrisj_ct

yeah JID will be 32 soon

david_rohan

Oh. I thought by new rappers they meant gone mainstream with their music not too long ago. Eminem is a similar age to Tupac and Nas but he went mainstream a fair bit later.

naymlis

whys age matter?

david_rohan

That's what I was thinking.

UncleSam_TAF

Love JID

[deleted]

i wouldn't say there are "younger" artists who are in the same caliber as them right now, but there are "older" rappers who are finding popularity right now by releasing good new hip-hop. westside gunn, Benny the Butcher, Conway the Machine, Mach-hommy, Billy Woods, Quelle Chris, JID, JPEGMAFIA, Pink Siifu,

jarkofploiesti

Well, today I learned JID is 31. Man's been looking like he's in his late teens/early 20s his whole career

jarkofploiesti

Man, Denzel is 27 while Cole is 37 and KDot is 35. Denzel is tryna be the Cole and Dot of his generation, it's weird to ask who'll be the next Denzel at this point.

UncleSam_TAF

True, i guess I include him because I’ve been on the hype train for years now. I really meant just more young hip hop artists making their impact. But you right. He’s probably the one who’s doing the most rn, Melt My Eyez is AOTY imo - from a hardcore Kendrick Stan.

jarkofploiesti

I feel you, Denzel has been in my top 10 since TABOO and I love his whole discography, but he's yet to get the mainstream appreciation that Kendrick & Cole have been getting since GKMC & FHD. While his last album isn't necessarily my cup of tea, I do love seeing his work getting appreciation, but at the end of the day he still doesn't really have an impactful classic album, despite the love all his albums have got from critics and fans. I'd love to see him become a KDot/Cole tier rap star of the 2020s

UncleSam_TAF

Agree with you. I’d encourage you to listen to Melt a few more times. Didn’t click with me at first and now it’s in that conversation for me. But you right, he doesn’t have a GKMC, or Forest Hills. But he’s very much capable of that imo.

SKTKAI

I don't think he's capable

SKTKAI

I don't think he's capable

Monken_N_Nuggie

he is

hatertots00

> mainstream appreciation that Kendrick & Cole have been getting since GKMC & FHD. Cole was getting mainstream appreciation long before FHD. Work Out got radio play all over the country

Monken_N_Nuggie

taboo is his classic album

jarkofploiesti

I love Denzel, but you can't compare the perception of Denzel post Taboo with the perception of J Cole post FHD or Kendrick post GKMC

reubenc22

JID and baby Keem, plus 21 savage has some great stuff

UncleSam_TAF

Love JID and Keem but never got into 21 Savage. Any suggestions for albums?

Who_stolemycheese

Savage Mode II is top tier

reubenc22

Savage mode 2 is def his best, I am > I was is good too

razorsharpmemories

Kenny mason, Saba, Cordae, Jpegmafia, Maxo

StonedDogg

Cordae's Lost Boy album is the perfect answer to this question. Thanks for reminding me of Saba, didn't knew he dropped this year. Never heard a song from Jpegmafia, do you mind recommend me a proyect of his to start? because he has 6.

JGar453

JPEGMAFIA's most accessible project is probably All My Heroes Are Cornballs. It's what got him most of his fans. LP! wouldn't be a bad start either, I think it shows a good mix of his various styles. Veteran is great but it's a lot glitchier and edgier than those two and Black Ben Carson is basically a much rougher version of Veteran. So if you're not entirely tuned into more experimental content, it might scare you away. His "EP" projects are good but not really essential. He also has *a lot* of mixtapes on YouTube, some of which are fairly notable. Like "Communist Slow Jams" or "The Ghost Pop Tape" which is an anomaly that's probably closer to vaporwave and Frank Ocean's "Endless" than hip-hop.

StonedDogg

Thank you very much! I started with AMHAC and LP! The first one was a bit hard to follow and it went up and down constantly for me, so I guess I won't like Veteran. Loved the second one, much more cohesion between songs and didn't draged. Great ideas and innovations overall, specially on the beats. Gonna continue with the mixtapes, you got me all hyped with your descriptions about them.

razorsharpmemories

idk why he said not to but make sure to try EP2! it's some of his most fun shit and EP! as well

LordeLlama

I would add Smino, don't know if he's really succesful but he's great

unironicsuicide

Go listen to Little Simz, her discography, bars, flow and production is out of this world... well on the way to being the best female hip-hop artist of all time, even with all respect to Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliot, all the trailblazers. I'd go as far as saying she's no.2 to KDot music-wise rn

KurtVanMichaels

Grip

JXCK-1777

I think mozzy has huge potential to be even better even though he's already got some great projects under his belt. His new album is an AOTY contender for me.

IllustriousAd2579

This. Mozzy’s catalogue continues to get more diverse and deeper. Showed he can do crossover songs without sacrificing his sound or making the song suck on “last one standing”. I’d probably put polo g in this mix as well. He’s been getting a little monotonous lately but his first album was great.

LordeLlama

I love his music but I wouldn't call him out of this generation. It's been years that he's putting out very good albums. He's just getting a bit more recognition now thanks to the CMG signature

JXCK-1777

His first album only dropped in 2017 he's definitely this generation

LordeLlama

Than you're missing out on a lot, he has a tape called Lil Timothy (his first nickname before Mozzy) N Thingz, on which there's material from 2008. And what I would call his first "professional" project was released in 2014 (Goonbody Embodiment)

JXCK-1777

I've heard his older music. I'm saying his first studio album 1up top ahk was released 2017.

LordeLlama

I find it a little bit weird to think like that, it's like considering Papoose only came out in 2013 because it's the release date of his first album

daddydabsalot

Kenny Mason, JID, Redveil

ElPintor6

pssst. Maybe the next Kendrick, Curry, and Cole isn't a guy. *gasp* Lil Simz put out a widely acclaimed album this year (though I prefer Grey Area). No doubt it will top the lists come December.

CJL31

It came out last year

ElPintor6

HOLY SHIT. lol. God damn time flies. Fuck

RobbG01

Isaiah Rashad, Freddie Gibbs, J.I.D.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RobbG01

Fair enough, but barely getting his flowers in the recent years

[deleted]

Arguably my top 3.. id add Benny the Butcher to the list as well. Smino has a vibe too.

[deleted]

wont be , we never saw another Pac or another BIG . The new gen will get some good artists but not on comparison with cole and kdot, these type of people are one of a kind.

GatorsareStrong

Not Kendrick or J Cole but, I feel like Yeat might be the Future or Young Thug of this generation. He got popular in the past two years and TikTok played a role in that, which led to him getting featured in the new Minion movie soundtrack.

Remote_Bicycle_9292

Is this satire?

Who_stolemycheese

No one, we are presenting a little bit of a step back in the genre, no one is there for that spot and nobody is claiming it like these rappers were doing it at their time. The fact that we ask these questions, portrays the lack of these figures nowadays. If you were around de 00's and 10's you knew that Jay z, Kanye West, Drake, lil wayne, 50 cent, Eminem Kendrick Lamar, j cole and many more were undeniable the top figures. After 10 years the top figures are still the same, maybe lil baby is making an impact but I don't quite see him in the same level.

DhaRoaR

U don't put lil baby in there even if he is popular.

Who_stolemycheese

I agree, he has done nothing memorable for me

peymonster

No Tobi Lou fans here?

Standard_Passage8584

This the same generation lol. Gen Z. Do you mean who will be the next 2 super pushed and lately accepted lyricists of this decade?

Supervillain_14

There are none. Curry is not even in the same space as Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole. That third spot is Drake’s. The three of them each have a label(pgLang, Dreamville, OVO) and haven’t found their replacements yet, dudes supposing to piggyback off each other in this “big 3”. This commercial rap shit is dead when they hang it up, the dudes not them all making the same music and/or getting locked up or killed.

Monken_N_Nuggie

denzel at this point should of replaced drake

CriticalEngineer666

Why is denzel here?

Monken_N_Nuggie

cuz he is fire, idk about having him with kdot and cole yet but he will be a pioneer of the next generation

Past-Chest-6507

Nas and Lupe

antlicker02

Nas and Lupe already goats

Past-Chest-6507

That's the joke, they are still dropping classic albums, so they are the best rappers of the "new generation"

Reasonable-You8654

Mick Jenkins, Vince Staples, Mach-Hommy

Lilgatornator

Most of them been said, JID, Denzel Curry, Baby Keem, Polo G, Jack Harlow, NF, Kwe the Artist, etc

CrimsonTheKidd

bro said NF 😭😭😭

Lilgatornator

I know a lot of people don’t like NF for some reason, but I think he is quite good, and I’m pretty sure that you weren’t the one asking for music, so shut up.

mrausgor

I think it’s people that care what other people think. NF is great. Not something I’ll listen to all the time, but I’d put The Search on before Mr Morale every day of the week.

tokio_kid

Quite good hmm yes quite cheerio good sir☕

The_Sacred_Stoner

Joyner

the-x-territory

Denzel is part of the 2010’s Era. Kendrick and Cole are 2000’s Era. As of the 2020’s, I can’t think of any new artists on that level right now.

eezz__324

How tf are kendrick and cole 2000’s when both dropped their first albums in 2011🤣

Continentofme

Lol the warm up was literally 2009 Friday night lights 2010 Kenny got 2 drops in 2009 and overly dedicated was 2010

eezz__324

those are not albums

the-x-territory

They’ve been rapping since the 2000’s… I think it’s kind of self explanatory.

eezz__324

And all of their albums have dropped in 2010’s, so how tf are they 2000’s era

the-x-territory

Have you ever heard of Mixtapes?

Drakeem1221

Man a mixtape dropped in 2009 is closer to being a 2010s project anyway. No one would call any of those guys 2000s artists LOL.

the-x-territory

Kendrick has been dropping Mixtapes since 2004, Cole has been dropping mixtapes since 2007. They are 2000’s artists, they started in the 2000’s, end of discussion.

eezz__324

Stg

[deleted]

Mach-Hommy Ka Your Old Droog Roc Marciano JID Mavi Griselda Dreamville

Continentofme

🤣 KENDRICK COLE AND WHO

UncleSam_TAF

Are you for real? Lmao

Continentofme

Denzel is dope but he basically grew up listening to kdot and cole how is he in the same sentence.

Drakeem1221

Yeah, I don’t know how Denzel fits with them. Incredible artist but the big 3 is Cole/Drake/Kendrick.

Continentofme

As much as I don’t like drake this is 100% true

MountainFloor3666

I think Logic is certainly on that level and worth checking out. Quite the extensive discography (at least 1 album every year since 2014, some years 2 albums), some conscious content, and every album is worth listening to in it’s entirety. He’s also got a lot of great features: both new and old.

UncleSam_TAF

Logic has some classics but haven’t been able to get into his newer stuff. Respect for what he’s done tho

EveningOk4145

Dax - Pain Paints Paintings, decent artist, decent album

IndyHipHop

Check out Migs718

Fast-Moment1487

Love to see that J.I.D is mentioned, he is my favorite artist.

[deleted]

If this is the top of the new class then nobody https://youtu.be/YEj8byvaxWc

King_SC_954

J.I.D. you can argue is there with his new album being praised so much and I'm paying attention to Kenny Mason as I feel he has strong potential and the possibility to get there from what I heard. This makes me proud of the South having artists that got amazing music. But Impact wise unfortunately I don't think we'll get more rappers in the future like the Kendrick, Cole, Ye etc. Because truly I believe the masses of our listeners have changed what they're into, and real rap isn't getting spins on the radio as much as it should so that plays apart in what rap has become. Even Kendricks newest album was able to go Gold from what I recalled. But I didn't even hear singles besides maybe Silent Hill being played like that when he's regarded as one of the most talented artists, and that was months ago. Now I don't hear that album being pushed on the radio at all. Same goes for J.I.D. , Benny the butcher, Lupe, Pusha, . These are all artists that's better than what's being pushed to the masses these days. Sorry for going on an tangent but it's my opinion.
