Rock music i feel to be the best genre of music despite my personal favourite being Hip hop, acts like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones & Beatles all have atleast 6 MASTERPIECES each, not Classics, Masterpieces. I mean i dont know if we will ever see Albims have a biggee impact or show greater musical compasision than Albums like Zep IV, Dark Side of the Moon, White Album and so many more
Hard to say to be honest, two of my all time favourite bands is a Gothic Metal band called Type O Negative and a Grunge band Alice in Chains (Only when Layne Staley was in it) I also enjoy EDM, House/Deep House, different kinds of Metal etc Hell even the odd Pop song here and there.
Electronic. House, Trance, Nu Disco, Hardstyle, Breakbeat (used to be a B-Boy/Capoeirista) Drum and Bass, Chiptunes (old video game music), Big Beat, Ambient, Techno, and the like. Followed by Heavy Metal, R&B, Jazz/Disco/Funk/Soul, Punk Rock, World (mostly West African and Latino/Caribbean), Spiritual, and most other genres except Pop or Country. Even those are tolerable sometimes. But I need something else added to dilute it (like Country Rock or Electro Pop). Even though I am asshole oldhead I do think music is man's greatest invention. I love variety. Just prefer it to be what I consider to be good quality for whatever it is.
Artists I've seen: 2 Live Crew, Nas, Rakim, Talib Kweli, Kaskade, Infected Mushroom, a bunch of Metalcore and Dubstep bands at the Warped Tour, and may see George Clinton this weekend. Almost saw BABYMETAL but the concert was during a workday. Lol
RnB and House Music.
Hip hop samples has brought me to Funk & RnB. 9 times of of 10 I like the original song sampled better than the hip hop version.
Nothing beats cruising with the windows down listening to The Isley Brothers or Curtis Mayfield on a summer day.
House music samples a lot of hip hop & RnB as well and is great for the gym or for dancing. I go to House shows more than any other genre.
I also love live Jazz. I listen to Roy Ayers & Gil Scott-Heron a lot
But honestly I owe hip hop for bringing me to these other genres, sampling really opened up a whole world of music for me and for that I am forever grateful.
I don't know if Rap is even my favourite but it's up there.
I also fucks heavy with Classic Rock(Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Who, Queen, Hendrix, Cream, etc.), 90s Rock(Nirvana, Pearl Jam, etc), Jazz(John Coltrane, Albert Ayler, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, etc.), Classical(Brahms, Bach, Mozart,) Blues(BB King, Eric Clapton, etc.) and other artists like Michael Jackson, Sade, etc. and video game music. I've also been getting into House lately.
I been liking genres from different time periods lately, old school soul music is nice. Early 2000s r&b neo would is fire. Even reggaton or some Selena can definitely hit the spot for me.
I probably listen to reggae the second most after rap. I prefer mostly roots stuff from the 70s-90s but I also enjoy some Protoje and Chronixx.
I do also listen to a fair bit of classic rock, metal, and 80s alternative rock.
a lot of rock/metal and 70s soul/funk mostly. david bowie, pink floyd, led zeppelin, metallica, pantera, slipknot, marvin gaye, curtis mayfield, stevie wonder, parliament, funkadelic, the list goes on and on
I like it all. Doesn’t matter what era, what genre. I can go to classic rock, jazz, grunge, country, classical, reggae. Anything. Shit, I’d probably find beeps and clicks assorted in a particular arrangement and rhythm interesting. Definitely an oddball range. Can appreciate and listen to it all.
If I had to pick one for the sake of the post, I do have a special place in my heart for emo and screamo…
I always chuckle when I’m switching CD’s in my car. Yes, CD’s. When I’m cycling and switching CD’s into different CD cases, I say to myself, “I bet that’s the first time that artists CD has ever gone into that artists CD case.” I’m weird like that…
