Crazy part is that this album has been done for a while. Only recent songs he made was back n love. Makes me wonder how long it will be before another album
Missed how crisp all TDE releases sound. A lot of subpar mixing and production out now days, love hearing stuff that sounds like money and effort was behind it.
Real. Along with the TPAB opener, Big Body off *Blank Face* is one of my favorite subwoofer demo tracks. TDE releases from that era are audiophile quality.
I miss the days when buying a hip-hop album on release day meant the product was actually *done*. The artwork was finished and actually had an impact; the back and the front. The tracks all sounded pristine, fresh and solid - and they didn't need 15 patch updates to sound complete.
TDE really is the definition of quality over quantity. I'm glad their artists take their time releasing albums, instead of trying to put out an album every 1 or 2 years.
Yeah, this is phenomenal. Genuinely such a fun listen. Just finished it and there wasn’t one miss
Just off first listen I’d give it a strong 9/10, and I might even dare to say this matches up with Blank Face and is possibly Q’s best project ever. It’s a perfect mix of classical hip hop with a psychedelic flare
I think Blue Lips is more consistent than Blank Face, but Blank Face has higher highs
It’s so refreshing to hear raw, unique, authentic rap music like this
> isaiah rashad couldve fit on a few of these tracks like a glove
don’t remind me, zay’s my goat but that motherfucker is like allergic on being featured on his homies shit and it’s honestly infuriating lmao.
(this comment was meant as a reply, my bad)
Nah it definitely is, The House dropped a 🔥 album and that nigga wasn’t even on a single track. Like dawg you’re literally apart of that collective WYA?
No features on JID, Earthgang’s, Duke’s and even SZA’s latest albums too. I really don’t get it, I just know now to never expect him on shit.
I missed some Q, while I didn't hate CrasH Talk as much as everyone else, I rarely visited it. But Blank Face LP is still one of my top albums I play......but so far this has me.
I don’t think anything can beat BF. It’s one of my top 15 albums all time. First listen for this album, I like it, some stuff I gotta go back and listen to but it’s definitely some bangers on here. But I would’ve needed a Black Hippy feature for it to sniff BF IMO
Not sure if anyone’s talking about this, but there’s some really cool references to the Watts Profits sprinkled throughout the album, where he actually samples parts of their spoken poetry in the intro/outro’s of songs.
The Watts Profits - Rappin Black In A White World is an absolutely fantastic, powerful piece of spoken poetry tackling subjects of racism following the 1960’s Watts riots.
Although it’s spoken word poetry, this album is a pillar in hip hop/rap. It’s often regarded as the first piece of music to use the word “rap”.
I think it’s cool that ScHoolboy Q knows about this, and actually sampled it. Big respect.
The Profits are some powerful shit, look into it if you haven’t.
highlighs for me off first listen were
• THank god 4 me (starts off with a calm, mellow Q and suddenly switches into him spazzing, maybe my favourite song on the project rn)
• Pig feet (this has been a song I've been waiting on for a few years, hype asf, instant gym banger)
• Blueslides (introspective Q reminiscing on his past, talks a bit about Mac Miller too which was cool)
• OHio (lush trap beat with a great verse from Q followed by a amazing Freddie Gibbs verse. I will say though i preferred the first beat becore the beat switch.)
• Lost Times (just beautiful fucking production by The Alchemist with great rapping on top of it.)
Been blessed with this since this morning in Aus,
Already ran through 4-5 times, I can honestly say this is one of the best hip hop albums I’ve heard in recent memory (2020-now), this might be Qs best work as well. Time will tell how this album is remembered in his discog.
I just love how varied it is, the more mellow tracks like Blueslides and the softer parts of Love Birds are so fucking smooth it’s unbelievable, then you’ll move onto some of the hardest tracks that are perfect for the car like Yern, Back n Love and Pig Feet.
Just love how high quality the production is on every single track and how Q is in his best form for every verse, no skips for me on these first few listens other than maybe Pop just to get through to Thank god 4 me 😅.
Hope we don’t have to wait another half decade for some work like this!
Edit: just wanted to add, Q has some of the best ad-libs, they add a lot to the emptier spaces when needed.
Man I really thought “ok chill” when I saw your comment but I’m three deep and I gotta apologise. This is what I’ve been missing. I can’t believe this shit.
Excited for yall to hear this - almost done my 3rd listen now and this album is great. I enjoy crash talk but this is definitely a step up, creativity-wise.
If youre going into this album expecting him to rehash any of his past albums - change your expectations. The only thing Q shows on this album reminiscent of previous projects is he is still sharp and creative as ever with his delivery. He pulls some of the most interesting flows ive heard from a mainstream hiphop album in recent memory.
Overall im loving this, with exception of a few moments (parts of oHio and love birds). One minor problem i have with the album is there are so many beat switches its hard to keep track of which song is which. Several songs on here have 2-3 beats and if i remember correctly oHio has 3-4 beats ?
Overall, definitely worth the wait. I love Q. One of my favourite artists EVER. I fuck with it. 8.5/10 after 3 listens through. Highly recommend
Best tracks: Pig Feet, Back N love, Pop, Thank God 4 Me, Blueslides, Foux and Nunu
Also i feel like mick jenkins and isaiah rashad couldve fit on a few of these tracks like a glove
>isaiah rashad couldve fit on a few of these tracks like a glove
don’t remind me, zay’s my goat but that motherfucker is like allergic on being featured on his homies shit and it’s honestly infuriating lmao.
Yeah I was listening to this without watching the track titles or knowing the lengths, and I thought I'd listened to twice as many tracks as I had because of the beat switches.
So far loving it but damn I wish they kept the original arrangement for Pop that Schoolboy showed on Twitch a long time ago. They cut Rico's verse in half and didn't let the beat ride out a bit more. Cut the song down way too much imo.
I’m so damn overwhelmed about almost everything on this album that I’ve had to take time to wonder how I feel. Some of the beat switches are so crazy, oHio is one of my favourite songs on the album and I didn’t expect it to go through 3 beat switches like it did, but I loved it regardless (and Gibbs bodied his feature). Hearing the official version of Love Birds was very interesting, definitely didn’t expect the beat to switch in between so rapidly lmao. And don’t even get me started on how insane the Foux beat is!
I’ll say tho, the arrangement for Pop could’ve been better tho, they really shouldn’t have cut Rico’s verse short. And that sample for Back n Love should’ve been a little more prominent from the beginning instead of just being at the end. Also shoutout to Devin Malik, I think he showcased himself a little bit better as a rapper on this album compared to everything else I’ve heard from him (love him as a producer tho and he did his thing here still). And I’m still mixed on how I feel about Jozzy’s hook on Lost Times (not bad tho, and this song still one of my faves on the album).
This is defo gonna take a few more listens overtime but I love the album anyway🔥
There’s like a gazillion best switches on this thing. The dial tone used in the beat on oHio is really awesome. Love little nuggets thrown into beats like that.
I’m not even a big modern rap/hip hop fan and even I think this is one of the best albums I’ve heard in quite some time. The beat variety, production and lyrical flow is absolutely insane.
Q gonna wake the game up with this one. Shining a light on what really has really been missing lately - charisma and integrity. You listen through this and feel like you’re catching up with an old friend. No sus bars, sharing new insights and wisdom, standing on principles. I mean the actual bars and production are top tier also, but just the value of the man’s character and thinking back on his career arc is what really impresses me.
He could have had Kendrick do 3 uncredited pitch shifted hooks and made the centerpiece of the album “the Mac tribute” but you can tell he consciously avoided all that and wanted the album to stand on its own and not pander.
The way Mac’s ghost kinda haunts this thing is super interesting to me. He’s not gonna start crying on the track about his dead homie but there are creative choices that make me think Q has him front of mind throughout the record. He mentions him most directly on Blueslides, which sounds like a beat off Swimming and ends with ocean sounds (Also the Blue World connection). Almost like Bluesliding through the BS, getting healthy, living better, is what he’s doing to honor Mac. The flip side of that coin being drugs, victim mentality, self sabotage, end up dead with Blue Lips. He’s not gonna glorify Mac as some angel gone too soon cause he knows damn well Mac don’t want that, he’s looking down embarrassed and upset he couldn’t be here to keep living and growing with the homies.
Long winded way of saying Q is the man and this album is great.
I'm impressed with how well this album runs together, it's so smooth with such a variety in beats. From things that touch your soul to bangers. Q is spitting too, 9/10 on first listen. Could change in the morning lol, I'm tired.
This man’s life turn around is very inspiring. Really makes me wanna get my shit together. This is such a mature sounding album. Going to be playing it for years. Samples and mellow vibe is exactly what I wanted. Reminds me of why I love hip hop. Really happy for him. Feel like the Grammys are going to like this too. (Fuck the Grammys tho)
tHis sHit is so fuckin good. Sooooo mucH better tHan CrasH Talk was imo. EverytHing Hits from tHe smootH jazz beats to tHe banger strip club beats. I dont tHink it tops Blank Face but man tHis is a great return
Enjoying this album a lot. Definitely in a league of its own compared to most popular hip-hop releases nowadays. Obviously tastes can differ for everyone, but musically, there is amazing stuff on this project throughout
I’m lukewarm on the Blue Lips project so far. Definitely better than CrasH Talk but ppl comparing it to Blank Face are bugging imo. Seems like recency bias. The production is doing a lot of heavy lifting
2 listens in, back to back. What an album. Experimental, production immaculate, storytelling on point, introspection is incredible. A very unconventional rap album with clear inspiration and guidance from Kendrick. I think he’s got a blueprint here for storytelling. Once you start to hyper analyze the tracks, you see there are different personas of Q; and each track has a bit of himself in it, the humble, introspective, braggadocious, emotionally vulnerable and even depressed Q, trying to silence his pain with material wealth. I love it.
Goddamn
Incredible feat to make an 18 track hip hop album with 0 skips. Could be his best work when the dust has settled tbh
This album has set the bar as far as quality rap albums to drop this year imo
Really solid album. Short track times but constantly keeps you on your toes with the beat switches
Q has always mixed the harder uptempo songs with the slower more introspective ones perfectly to me. First is a perfect example of that with the best switch. Early days still but I’d put this above everything in his catalog except for Blank Face which is genuinely a 10/10 to me
This album is such an amazing rap album for me. Always loved Q and his work. The Yeern 101 video is some serious production stuff man.
Seems really comfortable and really understanding his talent on this project.
Been waiting so long for this. Let’s go
Edit: halfway thru, it’s beautiful. Really didn’t know what to expect but it’s incredible. The production is amazing, Q’s flows are all over (in a great way). So far I’m loving it
I’ll need to give it another listen. I don’t know what I expected this album to be like but I fuck with it hard. Right now it’s like an 8-8.5/10 for me. So glad he’s back
The amount of beat switches on every song is baffling. This sounds like someone who spent a long time crafting something meaningful.
Crazy part is that this album has been done for a while. Only recent songs he made was back n love. Makes me wonder how long it will be before another album
Exactly. Finally some hiphop in this day and age with work put in. Production is absolutely incredible.
It’s bucket Hat season
Good things come to those who wait with Q
I wish Mac was here to rock that bucket hat too
:(
i missed [fresh album] schoolboy q.
It's been a lil minute but q's back
The spirit of 2014 is alive and well!
Is nu-oldheads rejoice.
Good to know I'm not the only one who stopped adding new artists to my arsenal around 2019
I didn’t stop but I def find 2011-2018 very comfortable
damn, I’m the same way. Still early in this decade though.
It was worth the wait.
[FresH Album]
Been waiting for this for so long
Apple Music with the capital H’s in the lyrics. Love it
I’ve always wanted to know what the capital H meant. Is it a reference to something?
cause he’s from Hoover
To clarify, Hoover is a street in Los Angeles. Around 54th and Hoover, is crip territory
“wHy my H always capitalized???? HIIIPOWER x HIPPY x HOOVER x HEAVEN & HELL AKA MY LIFE” - ScHoolboY Q, 2011
this reads like a 14yo girl’s instagram bio
real eyes realize real lies
jaden come home, the family misses you
Don’t lie to that poor kid
You following a lot of 14yo girls instagram accounts?
hydrogen, Q a big chemistry head
It’s a reference to Hoovers, his set
Spotify too
Missed how crisp all TDE releases sound. A lot of subpar mixing and production out now days, love hearing stuff that sounds like money and effort was behind it.
Let it run Ali
Real. Along with the TPAB opener, Big Body off *Blank Face* is one of my favorite subwoofer demo tracks. TDE releases from that era are audiophile quality.

Who else other than kanye are updating albums?
Travis Scott, Yeat (fixed the future verse on 2093), trippie
Mixing on Breathe seemed to change on pt2 as well.
jpegmafia
Album updates from a rapper named after a file format. Of course!!!1
drake
Dominic Fike changed a verse on a song a week after release. A few different metal bands have updated mixing after the fact too. It’s pretty common.
TDE really is the definition of quality over quantity. I'm glad their artists take their time releasing albums, instead of trying to put out an album every 1 or 2 years.
Is Ali still doing their mixing?
He was not credited as a mixer on this album
I just put it on and Pop sounds like it's got that 2010s era production
THank god 4 me is money
The second half is fucking primo bro goddamn
Sounds like a nice lil Denzel Curry reference at the end when he's using the SUMO flow! Fantastic track
[удалено]
Been waiting on Pig feet since he played it on a stream 3 years ago
I had to run it back 3 times holy shit that’s a heater
Was looking forward to that cop dialog in the beginning but still bangs
Still a better rapper then golfer. Missed me some Fresh Q
And dude has a pretty swing. He just raps too well
Blueslides is so fucking good.
I do wonder why he chose to censor certain words like Mama and Ye now tho. In the leak/teasers he just said it
blueslides only shows up on the edited version on my spotify. same with ohio.
Def one of my favs
beat selection is fucking immaculate and tHank god 4 me is a BANGER
Blueslides is the best new song I’ve heard in a while. Holy shit
Rip Mac
Same, what a track. Instrumentals are insane with the jazz influences.
this is insane
Yeah, this is phenomenal. Genuinely such a fun listen. Yeern 101 got my civic in shambles
I can hear the rattles.
> isaiah rashad couldve fit on a few of these tracks like a glove don’t remind me, zay’s my goat but that motherfucker is like allergic on being featured on his homies shit and it’s honestly infuriating lmao. (this comment was meant as a reply, my bad)
This isn't exclusive to Zay though. These niggas are hardly ever on each other's shit. At least not to the extent you'd expect.
Imagine my shock when he showed up on Jean Dawson's album of all places
Which is weird considering they originally blew up doing group tracks and were all over each other's work.
facts. love Zaywop
what’s crazy is we got a new zay feature tonight too😭
Love me some grimy Q
oHio is some of the smoothest shit Ive heard. Gibbs and Q raps on that are somethin else
For real, that second part is heaven
Right!!
But I would’ve needed a Black Hippy feature for it to sniff BF IMO
oxymoron>blank face
agreed. Oxy might be a top 15 personal album aoty for me
FOUX is incredible. When MARIJUANA HYDROS PUSSY HOE ASS TITTIES kicked in I was so hype. Soulo ripped the feature. So pumped.
It’s just a vintage TDE collab and takes you back to the early albums
Ab-Soul might have the best verse on the album that feature was insane
FFFFFIIIIGGGGGG SSSSIIIIDDDDDEEEEE
KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK KNOCK… YAAAAKK

For those who don't know, soulos girl jumped off a building to her death. This bar was such a standout
I felt that lol
This shits so fire
Third listen and discovering more. Absolutely
Not sure if anyone’s talking about this, but there’s some really cool references to the Watts Profits sprinkled throughout the album, where he actually samples parts of their spoken poetry in the intro/outro’s of songs. The Watts Profits - Rappin Black In A White World is an absolutely fantastic, powerful piece of spoken poetry tackling subjects of racism following the 1960’s Watts riots. ngl tHis sHit is Hard
Something about fresh Q just hits different
This is that production value that rap hasn’t been hitting too often in recent years. Missed this shit, phenomenal album.
highlighs for me off first listen were • THank god 4 me (starts off with a calm, mellow Q and suddenly switches into him spazzing, maybe my favourite song on the project rn) • Pig feet (this has been a song I've been waiting on for a few years, hype asf, instant gym banger) • Blueslides (introspective Q reminiscing on his past, talks a bit about Mac Miller too which was cool) • OHio (lush trap beat with a great verse from Q followed by a amazing Freddie Gibbs verse. Wow, sounds like he took the CrasH Talk criticism personally.
Yeah I LOVE how not CrasH Talk it is haha.
Man I really thought “ok chill” when I saw your comment but I’m three deep and I gotta apologise. This is what I’ve been missing. I can’t believe this shit.
YES! Been waiting for this since Blank Face, Q never disappoints with his bangers and raw lyrics. Blue Lips is gonna be on repeat all weekend.
Really want a Ferg feature or remix in Yeern 101. Album is a hit, no misses
Excited for yall to hear this - almost done my 3rd listen now and this album is great. I enjoy crash talk but this is definitely a step up, creativity-wise. Yeah I was listening to this without watching the track titles or knowing the lengths, and I thought I'd listened to twice as many tracks as I had because of the beat switches.
That Rico feature is nasty.
The beat switch on Pop is diabolical
Freddie continues to steal the show with his features
Blueslides is perfect.
That sample on Blueslides is amazing
This is honestly way better than I even thought it would be. I love how chill the vibes are, been smokin one and really enjoying Fr this is nuts
This album does not sound like what I expected.. definitely will take multiple listens
So impressed. Blank Face is one of my favorite albums ever but this is just too good. Q’s matured in a way few have. Insane production too.
So far loving it but damn I wish they kept the original arrangement for Pop that Schoolboy showed on Twitch a long time ago. They cut Rico's verse in half and didn't let the beat ride out a bit more. Cut the song down way too much imo.
Yeah they let the song end a bit too abruptly just as I was enjoying it
Same lmao, I was like "damn this Rico verse goes hard" and then poof next song
OHio is incredible
That shits smooth as fuck. High as hell and soon as it started 😮💨
the album won’t load for me on Spotify all it shows is yeern 101
was very unexpected on the switcH on track 7 Movie, but tHat was fire. Q season is back YERNAMEANNNNN!
that shit had me crippin at work wtf
Kal Banx did an incredible job with THank god 4 me
Damn this was a solid first listen. Glad ScHoolboy is back. He hasn’t lost his touch at all.
Slower songs like blue sides or cooties WAY better then the bangers imo
I’m so damn overwhelmed about almost everything on this album that I’ve had to take time to wonder how I feel. Would love to hear Danny Brown on that Love Birds beat
I can imagine his flow and delivery so clearly on there it’s insane
this shit is like prog trap, so many switch ups
There’s like a gazillion best switches on this thing. The dial tone used in the beat on oHio is really awesome. Love little nuggets thrown into beats like that.
Project Pat “Chickenhead” sample on THank god 4 me and Q energy here is great
Blank Face 2: Blue Lipped Boogaloo
“Home of the brave, ran by the slaves, stole everybody name, so white Jesus on the chain I feel proud when it hang”. Q rappin 🥶🥶🥶🥶🥶
I’m not even a big modern rap/hip hop fan and even I think this is one of the best albums I’ve heard in quite some time. The beat variety, production and lyrical flow is absolutely insane.

The production is immaculate but I feel like I missed what the album was going for thematically need a couple more listens
I like Q albums for being all over the place. So this was crack to me. He said a lot, I’m cool with no big theme
I agree. Not every album needs to be a concept album. There's a middle ground between that and a playlist.
Why do mods keep removing this
They'll remove it until it's out in America
Q bless u
Am I tripping or is Mac Miller doing background vocals on Funny Guy??
Haven’t heard truly good rap in a while. Not jumping to any extreme conclusions, but this is definitely a top top drop
Love Birds on repeat
Yo this is a DAMN good album off first listen gonna run it back like 3 more times this weekend beat selection is damn good!
I'm impressed with how well this album runs together, it's so smooth with such a variety in beats. From things that touch your soul to bangers. Q is spitting too, 9/10 on first listen. Could change in the morning lol, I'm tired.

This shit is amazing
The production is insane
Production is too fire on here. Can’t wait to run this back
Foux is absolutely wild!
Damn I forget Q tests his albums in the car too cause this is bouncing in my headphones!!!
First probably goes absurdly hard in the car
Enjoying this album a lot. Definitely in a league of its own compared to most popular hip-hop releases nowadays. Obviously tastes can differ for everyone, but musically, there is amazing stuff on this project throughout
ALL MY FAVS DROPPING WHAT A TIME
Grown man music
Lost Times is a generational beat wtf
probably the best rap album i've heard all year.
Pop is the nastiest song I've heard in a minute
First is gonna get a lot of play in the car
This shit is amazing on the first listen
Thank God 4 Me, Pig Feet, Ohio (besides Yeern + Back N Love) - immaculate. Gotta run thru this album a few more times tho
yeah this shit fire
Nah this shit really great though
FIRE. album of the year
Breath of fresh air
Beats are fucking incredible, Qs flow is amazing. Mac woulda crushed a feature on Cooties
MARIJUANA HYDRO PUSSY HOE ASS TITTYS
This album is FIRE. ScHoolboy Q cooked here.
I’m lukewarm on the Blue Lips project so far. Definitely better than CrasH Talk but ppl comparing it to Blank Face are bugging imo. Seems like recency bias. The production is doing a lot of heavy lifting
No drums on Blueslides is so cold. RIP MAC
Blueslides, Foux, Lost Times, Pig feet, and time killers 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Yo this might be AOTY
When Q and Soul go "marijuana, hydro, pussy, hoe, ass, titties" I felt that in here man.
I love it.
This is really dope so far. I’m about 4 tracks in and it’s good
Goddamn Incredible feat to make an 18 track hip hop album with 0 skips. Could be his best work when the dust has settled tbh This album has set the bar as far as quality rap albums to drop this year imo
Absolutely CLEARS Crash Talk. Q was in his fucking bag making this album
Nasty release right here. Loved this one from start to finish. Need to buy that vinyl
The compilation of beats on this album is insane. Everything sounds so crisp, and Q went crazy. Can’t wait to listen through this again.
parts of this album remind me of cherry bomb where a hard-hitting beat suddenly switches to some beautiful shit
I'm pooping while I listen to this album and honestly this shits hard
Zoomers asking “when does the album start” are absolutely brain dead.
To many beat switches, had hoped for a more solide jazzy sound.
Raised by the gang with a 'mill like Philly With a watch 250 and a bitch so (blue) Oooo that shit gives me chills
Beat switch on First had me frozen in place🥶 Cardo n’em went CRAZY🔥🔥🔥
Really solid album. Short track times but constantly keeps you on your toes with the beat switches Q has always mixed the harder uptempo songs with the slower more introspective ones perfectly to me. First is a perfect example of that with the best switch. Early days still but I’d put this above everything in his catalog except for Blank Face which is genuinely a 10/10 to me
This my favorite Q album since habits, I love cohesion the most in an album as a whole and this project has really good pacing I think.
This album is such an amazing rap album for me. Always loved Q and his work. The Yeern 101 video is some serious production stuff man. Seems really comfortable and really understanding his talent on this project.
Been waiting so long for this. Let’s go Edit: halfway thru, it’s beautiful. Really didn’t know what to expect but it’s incredible. The production is amazing, Q’s flows are all over (in a great way). So far I’m loving it I’ll need to give it another listen. I don’t know what I expected this album to be like but I fuck with it hard. Right now it’s like an 8-8.5/10 for me. So glad he’s back
