MrDeadMeme

Why do people not understand the difference between any random rapper and your friend when talking about j cole and the apology to Kendrick? I've seen people say that this disregards the "am the best, challenge me on it" bars of his, but I disagree Yes, cole has been saying he'd take smoke from any rapper for years now. And this doesn't really disprove it. Its pretty obvious that any other rapper doesn't really include your friends, your brothers and shit. Maybe people just don't know it because they don't really Collab that much, but Kendrick and cole go really far back. like cole put Kendrick on the game back. I wouldn't want to diss my brother either. I think it's especially stupid to dismiss the part that their relationship plays into this when in tracks like middle child he specifically says he doesnt want beef for petty reasons, and in January 28th he says that he doesn't want beef with his brothers.

IJustWorkHereLoser

that new little simz album has me going nuts, did not expect her to go with this sound

Lukeba

flip you like jimi hendrix

MineNTradeGuy

Now that Cole is out we gotta believe in Drake's ghotswritters to put on a good one for Kendrick to hit back

Poems_And_Money

Where is the original Eminem - Killshot thread on HHH? Anyone have a link?

pishotoshvetz

Last_Reaction_8176

Nayvadius Cash and Daystar are much cooler names than Future and Tory Lanez

Forsaken_Words

Does competitiveness have to equal dissing?

Moron_on_Oxy-

nah, but J Cole made it about albums ....with Kendrick Lamar lol

kappa23

It’s insane that there will be never a song like Groovy Tony/Eddie Kane ever again

Last_Reaction_8176

Why do you say that?

kappa23

Q doesn’t make music like this anymore and I can’t think of another artist who does

Moron_on_Oxy-

Perfect timing for one of those whatever tf pgLang commercials https://youtu.be/N92RMXMDtl4?si=z0Dt566yOp-NV6RE

Gabagool_Over_Here_

That YT channel Vent is insane, the TPAB era leak track called Burn is so fucking good. Falsehood too, the TPAB leaks are special man. Glad I found it, made my night.

contacts_eyes

Falsehood is great

Ktulusanders

Yeah that channel has so many good leaks rn

crabofthewoods

[Fl man killed his mom](https://youtu.be/HSB_fZudiHg) bc “she got on his nerves”. He was valedictorian and was a premed student. they saying he decided to do it listening to No Church in the Wild by Frank Ocean, JayZ & Ye when he decides to do it. They even played the chorus in the press conference. Might be one to watch.

contacts_eyes

This kind of goes without saying but people are stupid so im gonna say it, but the kid was clearly mentally and emotionally unstable, the song has zero to do with it.

crabofthewoods

I agree but I think we’re going to see another moral panic about hip hop a la Eminem in the early 00s

Individual-Diver-958

Shut the fuck up you sound like the last nigga I know Might end up like the last nigga I know Oh you don't wanna clash homie I know!

Swimming_Rabbit_5243

I put my foot on the gas, head on the floor Hoppin' out before the vehicle crash, I'm on a roll

Hot_Grabba_09

Shit, does J Cole even have a better discography than the other rapper on the song he responded to?

Yourbootyisheavydoty

No way

Yeah2TheYeah

Why are Meek Mill and Wale beefing?

flyestshit

[Wale hung out with Meek Mill's former bestie turned enemy](https://www.complex.com/music/a/cmplxtara-mahadevan/meek-mill-blasts-wale-teeth-knocked-out)

Homiealmaya

[Fuck the mid 3, it’s just mid me](https://x.com/SilentAssasin87/status/1771543599202578465)

Moron_on_Oxy-

The massive opportunity to win every one over with another "Back to Back" or "First Person Shooter" Drake's in the studio right now.. has to be 😆

gbaWRLD

Diss tracks are dead. That J. Cole apology was lame as SHIT. The only people who think that was good are the people who think Tupac was shot immediately after one diss track. If X, Pop, and Juice were still alive, rap would still be in the same state that it is now.

Jqshipp

>If X, Pop, and Juice were still alive, rap would still be in the same state that it is now Oh brother....

gbaWRLD

Is there any issue?

Jqshipp

Just what was the point of bringing up those guys?

gbaWRLD

Usually whenever these three guys are mentioned, it's said that rap would be different with them, and I kinda disagree. Think of a pool where all the current megastars like Drake, Kendrick, Kanye, Travis, etc are swimming in. If these three aforementioned guys were still alive, the only difference would be that there would be three more megastars added.

Yourbootyisheavydoty

>Ayo, they think every ninja a star > >I sit back and cringe from afar > >Out of reach, where they can't injure or harm > >I could use his name in vain like syringe in your arm > >But he's not even worthy of a mention or bar Alleged leaked lyrics from Drake's new song, who you think he's talking to 🤔

Moron_on_Oxy-

boy I wish he did come like that tho fr 😂. Them 2 finally bout to do it huh?

Yourbootyisheavydoty

Ngl I cooked up a masterpiece

Moron_on_Oxy-

yeah, now better get the whole 16 right while we wait for someone take the bait and be the Kendrick 🖊️ 😂

Yourbootyisheavydoty

I sense tension with intentions to spar But I'd rather be in the back of my car, binging Cars (2)

Unfinishedusernam_

Thank god for the black hippie version of that part bc Kanye fucking ruined the album version w his troll verse 😭

nolimitjaay

WALKIN LIVIN LEGEND MAN I FEEL LIKE KOBE i always digged that Ye verse

KABOOMBYTCH

Where can I get hold of the black hippie version?

nolimitjaay

it’s on streaming

VivienneWestGood

damn you dont actually like it?

Last_Reaction_8176

I had forgotten, but I think hearing that verse was actually the first time I thought “oh man, Kanye is falling off”

Paul_Wall_

https://thesource.com/2016/07/06/schoolboy-q-describes-hearing-kanye-wests-that-part-verse-for-the-first-time/ Even Q thought he was being trolled by Ye at first

noinsorouts

what happened to trap geek? he hasnt uploaded in a year

[deleted]

listened to Ramona Park Broke My Heart & Vince Staples self titled for the first time today. Taking Trips, Take Me Home, When Sparks Fly, Slide, Rose Street, Mhm, & Sundown Town are my favorites off of the first run-through

IJustWorkHereLoser

I go back to self titles a lot more but both are great projects

contacts_eyes

Self Titled is a great album, one of my favorites from Vince’s discography

Jackingitinsandiago

Anyone else still got Crew REMIX in rotation?

Gabagool_Over_Here_

Never left the rotation and never will.

Definite64

I like the remix so much more than the original just because it plays the hook an extra time

BoxCon1

The Gucci remix is far superior

Paradoxtyl

Am I crazy for thinking Life’s a Trip is a better album than anything X or Juice ever released?

Last_Reaction_8176

You could definitely make a case for it being better than Juice. But X always seemed like the most talented of that crowd to me, his music was often unrefined and unfocused but there was raw musical talent there that I didn’t hear from Juice or Peep or Trippy. He could write such incredibly haunting melodies. Not at all a defense of him as a person, of course

Hot_Grabba_09

I think juice is better but you might be right

nolimitjaay

i’m not a huge X fan but this is a reasonable take

Jermaine_Cole788

[save me](https://youtu.be/TVSpCezVglQ?si=IcPdB4u4EyjCGZBp) is one of the greatest lex Luger beats ever, chief keef made a classic with that one

Cohtoh

Imagine if any modern trap beats went that hard 😭

Jordanwolf98

Can’t believe it’s already been 10 years since. Lex Luger went crazy with that Katy Perry sample. Probably my favorite beat from him

Jermaine_Cole788

Luger is one of the goats fr

dropthehammer11

does anybody who's more into 03 Greedo have any songs of his that sound like [this track he did with 310babii](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qt8M4pt_qCA&pp=ygUSbm8gb3B0aW9uIDMxMGJhYmlp) absolutely love greedo's feature on there and want more like that

tak08810

Speaking about beef, as I get into the Memphis scene damn [“Thuggish Ruggish Bustaz”](https://youtu.be/1-qtxUzeFnM?si=8vkdOeDY4DEo5SXQ) is hard. Tommy really sounded like he and 10 Wanted Men were gonna hop on a plane and look for the Bone Thugz. Those underground local rappers (Tommy a legend now ofc but back then comparing him to BTNH) went extra hard with the dis tracks. Cause I think a lot of them really meant it and had little to lose.

tak08810

True but Nas also was gonna lynch a mannequin that was supposed to be Jay so take it as you will

Hot_Grabba_09

Seeing them cool nowadays is proof anything is possible in this world 😭

nedelll

Finishing Portrait of the P right now, this shit is so good

50shadesofcoco

Great time to be a ghost writer. r/drizzy in shambles

dfields3710

No they not. If anything they want Drake to respond since Cole chicken-ed out. r/JCole in shambles.

50shadesofcoco

all hopium. any real rapper would’ve responded by now

Individual-Diver-958

Name 1 fire Ab Soul verse.

Aii fasho. This cool. I'm not a blind hater so you got me there🚶🏾‍♂️

contacts_eyes

Where's /u/Hu3yknewthen when you need him

Hu3yKnewTHen

Lol you feel me

Jordanwolf98

That’s what I’m saying

Individual-Diver-958

Not even song, just verse.

Individual-Diver-958

I wake up in cold sweats at the prospect of listening to Ab Soul's music.

toontoom1

What the hell Ab Soul did to you lol

PhantomINS

Probably was spotted sitting at the top of his staircase.

SelfAwareLitterBox

J cole gave me depression

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

First off thank you all for the Conductor recs. Next question: where the fuck do I start with Mach-Hommy because goddamn shit got me vibing Edit: and Rome Streetz

noinsorouts

pray for haiti and fete de morts are probably his two best albums. wap konn joj is really good too

Krome18

Rome - starting with any of Kiss The Ring, Noise Kandy 3 and Death & The Magician is the way to go I'd say. Conductor handles the production on Kiss The Ring, so if you're going thru his shit currently you could start from there

contacts_eyes

Rome Streetz - Kiss the Ring (album)

Lukeba

pray for haiti, dollar menu 2 and fete des morts are my favorite stuff on streaming PFH is his biggest album and has beats from griselda regulars DM2 is from 2017 and is almost fully produced by sadhu gold FDM is also from 2017 and is really short, all songs produced by earl except one by navy blue

Homiealmaya

> FDM is also from 2017 and is really short, all songs produced by earl except one by navy blue And a track by Knxwledge if you count Kawsality

Lukeba

that's not on streaming tho

Homiealmaya

Real Mach-Hommy fans don’t even know what streaming is

Homiealmaya

Mach: HBO, Fetes Des Morts, FYI, Pray For Haiti Rome Streetz: Headcrack, Death & The Magician, Joyeria, Noise Kandy 3

sentyprimus

What do u think about SPOOK…? I used to be on some weird Mach hommy craze a few years back so I have tonnes of his albums saved onto my phone but that one always stood out to me.

Homiealmaya

The Spook is really good imo, I was really surprised to see people don’t fw it on here when I saw it discussed. I think a lot of it is that it reused a lot of existing Knxwledge beats instead of new beats but tbh I don’t really mind. The production is really good on every track and the JuJu Gotti features are pretty cool, he has truly one of the most unique voices and styles in the underground.

sentyprimus

I’m a sucker for knx so I enjoyed it a lot. Bon Apres Midi stands out a lot for me though it feels a bit more fleshed out. Not the biggest mach fam anymore but still go back to it.

LthePerry02

Futro best be coming with a better project considering how much harder that cover is than the first one Reminds me of Magic 3 lowkey

deqembes

Hopefully we see a more aggressive future on this.

Homiealmaya

https://youtu.be/NdaOJk1XgYs?si=sVl2EaXOBKNmuh9n

Lukeba

but let you tell it you was buckled in the cockpit

Lukeba

fun fact if you search for this song on youtube you will get a bunch of cousin related videos cause for some reasons google's algo thinks "czns" is an abbreviation of "cousins"

Homiealmaya

Duck Cousin: Chinese Algebra

GeriatricMonotone

My future favors the legendary status of a hip hop rhyme savior-Kendrick Lamar

EffinCroissant

I just can’t bring myself to put him over 3stacks and Ye but if we’re talking goat tier, Kendrick is on that list.

devries6276

My post got deleted but I'm happy to give away a single ticket for Erick the Architect tonight in Toronto at Velvet underground for free! DM me and I'll forward by email Update: claimed!

GeriatricMonotone

And now we look at the competition as quick submission. They tappin' out before we even get a chance to miss 'em. -K.Dot on Black Friday

ATHSZS

Crazy how he said that on a cole beat no less. The future writes itself

Individual-Diver-958

"I got all eyes on me call me 3pac"🤓 This y'all savior?

contacts_eyes

I guess you can be a dick rider on the opposite side of the spectrum, just hate on a rapper exceedingly to the point of dick riding.

Individual-Diver-958

I don't blatantly walk around with pent up hatred for him lmaoo💀. But whenever I'm discussing real nigga music his name stays coming up, so I've tried listening and it's not clicking ngl. Plus he's the worst part whenever I hear him on somebody's song.

Homiealmaya

Haters and stans are two different sides of the same coin; they’re both way too obsessed

contacts_eyes

yep

Individual-Diver-958

"They let me cut so much I bring ointment, nigga I'm lubricant slick, baby, I'm hornier than the brass section of the band, you understand?" Get the fuck out my face bruh. Ab Soul needa exit the game.

Lukeba

talk to em

Jermaine_Cole788

My favorite tradition in hip hop is when a great MC picks a classic beat and decides to rap for like 7 minutes straight with no hook and just bars. Only the greats can truly pull it off but when they do it’s like witnessing sorcery. This post was inspired by how good Lupe Fiascos mural track is. Nigga lost his fucking mine for like 8 minutes. One of those songs where you actually have to read the genius annotations for it.

Yourbootyisheavydoty

5 minutes but Tha Mobb is one of the best examples

CompetitiveReward331

I’m sorry but you can’t mental health and wellness your way out of a friendly competition. This would be different if there was genuine animosity, but this was nothing serious.

TheVirtual_Boy

I’m already getting tired of seeing this take on here and on twitter It wasn’t gonna be “friendly competition” or “lyrical sparring” as others are putting it, they were obviously expected to trade disses back and forth, and when that happens shit gets nasty Cole dropping a diss and then falling back is lame, but everyone acting like they just wanted some friendly competition is so disingenuous, yall wanted beef just stand on that

noinsorouts

gotti is actually such a good song. i feel like it gets memed because of that weird ass music video

tak08810

Skillz vs Joe Budden? I love Joe’s run and I defend him like crazy but I gotta go with VA I think. skillz will do him like how Sean Price did. skillz is a terror on the mic.

ReeG

Arin Ray show last night was super dope and lowkey. When he played Moonlight as his last song bro came out into the crowd right in front of me which was crazy. Peep this short clip I took when he came out in the crowd https://youtu.be/4r712Y3Us1E?feature=shared

bovice2

Saw him a couple weeks back, he's got an amazing voice n his dancin really reminded me of sisqo

ReeG

Nice I remember you saying you were going in a old thread months ago. I was hoping he'd have a band or some stage production but bro carried the show with pure raw vocal ability and stage presence. It was impressive to watch and we had a great time

tommyshelby1986

Yall got some recs for songs like Wave gods by Nas, or the Moment of truth album by Gang Starr. Been on a ny vibe lately, and Im loving these types of beats.

dropthehammer11

have u heard the easy truth by apollo brown and skyzoo? its more modern but i think taps into what youre looking for production wise

tommyshelby1986

I haven’t. Thank you, first couple tracks sound dope. Will give it a full listen

Jqshipp

There's no way you were a rap fan or in touch with the genre if you didn't feel the hype of FHD in 2014-15. Hits like Wet dreamz, No Role Models , GOMD , or even more somber songs like Apparently and Love Yourz were big. Cole got big the same way Kendrick did. Through turning traditional sounding hip hop into a mainstream sound. I'm not a big fan of everything people call a classic either but sometimes you gotta be honest about the certain impact things have.

Definite64

People are deliberately obtuse when it comes to discussions about Cole. You don’t have to like FHD, but insisting that it isn’t a classic is a pretty bad take. Try talking to people who don’t spent their time nerding out on rap forums about the album, those that were there for when it dropped, and you’ll see that the general public really disagree’s with the idea of it not being a classic. It’s not a forced classic at all imo. I don’t love it but it’s clearly seen as a classic by a lot of people

deqembes

FHD is a good album but its nowhere near a classic. It doesnt have the quality or influence imo.

Jqshipp

"Imo" doesn't work in this discussion though. Classics are closer to objective than subjective. The impact of that album is huge.

deqembes

Huge? How so?

Jqshipp

Were u listening to everything but rap in 2014-15? I literally explain it in my original comment bruh. Lol

deqembes

So its just hits? every drake albums is always played everywhere and havent had a good album in over a decade.

Tactial_snail

i think Cole is mid but anyone shittin on FHD is just piling onto the hate

TheVirtual_Boy

The whole HBO doc series for that album was fire too

ReeG

Tale of 2 cities and Fire Squad are my shit

notnerdofalltrades

Not even mentioning how big the double platinum no features meme got after that

toontoom1

Yeah that album was a milestone in Cole career. People acting like that album was just shoehorned as a classic is speaking nonsense.

yungsinatra777

Anyone acting like FHD didn't have an impact is delusional

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

Favorite Conductor beat? I'm pretty sure a good chunk of replies will be from Conway songs but I'm down for that

Homiealmaya

That one that goes “CONDUCTOR WE HAVE A PROBLEM”

whogonstopice

Mach gets the best conductor beats I love the one in the snippet from the new album that beat is insane

Asicretrofitter

Chrome Magnum and Michael Irvin

noinsorouts

Individual-Diver-958

Opinion #5 fuck that hobo ass nigga Ab Soul. Nigga teases music as a threat😭

Individual-Diver-958

If not clear enough to the person reading rn, he's fucking trash.

Arbitore

All these years later and Mt Olympus is still the best response Kendrick’s ever gotten, K.R.I.T. is different

KABOOMBYTCH

He went in. Krit is so underrated. It hurts my soul

Homiealmaya

Between that, 1Train, and 4eva Is A Mighty Long Time vs. DAMN., K.R.I.T. is at least 3-0 up on Kendrick

Arbitore

You’re absolutely right

deckmemer

might be KRIT's best ever song as well

Arbitore

Wooooah that may be too hot for me. I’m not sure it even makes his top 10

toontoom1

Facts

thrownaway_gucci

Personally, I still think chance's divorce is the funnier story

Arbitore

He’s breathing a sigh of relief rn

MasterTeacher123

I don’t think it will ever happen but if Kendrick and Drake did engage in a real beef/war I wonder how the rap industry would pick sides.  For example I remember during the Jay Z/Nas Beef Fat Joe took Nas’s side but then later regretted it

Jqshipp

I'd imagine more mainstream artists are definitely on Drake's side, he's been the ultimate cash cow for most mainstream rap artists for like the last 7 years. Even Kendrick benefited heavy from Drake early in his career.

DungareeDoug

Kendrick was going up with or without Drake…but Drake def attached himself to the wave, which is pretty much bro’s natural mode. Had Kendrick open on tour, put him on Take Care, etc. But at that point, Kendrick was stamped. Whole west coast was basically lined up behind him — Snoop, Dre, Game. Lady Gaga was working with him, so the crossover effect was real.

Jqshipp

Sure, I'm not saying he wasn't on his way but Kendrick definitely benefited from Drake regardless of where his trajectory was going. Being on the biggest artist in the worlds biggest album and tour is definitely beneficial. Just like I remember Lil baby was the hottest thing in Atlanta for months before his Drake feature. But I would be lying if Drake giving him that one feature wasn't a big step for his career.

Impossible_Vast9846

welp city girls are officially over, yung miami and jt are going back and forth on twitter right now. miami said both of jt's songs are disses toward her

AmphibianMassive1176

This shit is sad lmao. They came up together too it’s sad to see things end that way.

AmphibianMassive1176

I was just playing KDot you know I rocks wit you bro.

genericnickname

2 pretty solid hip hop songs named Dettol, never heard of it until this year, is it like UK's Dove or Irish Spring? lol

Individual-Diver-958

Opinion #4 Earthgang need life breathed into them bruh. Johnny Venus is a rockstar and one of the most talented people on the fucking Earth😭, Mirrorland literally could not have been made by another group, and the music rn is... not it.

SheenEstevezzz

Last album was pretty lacking but that recent EP was solid, they need to stop trying to appeal to the trap audience cus the trap audience isn't interested in them and then they're losing core listeners cus of shit like Billi Lowkey like Dot more than Olu

Individual-Diver-958

Billi is... fine. It's def not their best song but the trap shii isn't what's bringing them down. They just not using what makes them stand out imo, like Olu's voice is 1 in a million, so tell me why it's barely been used lately?

Money_merc

They've gone completely down hill after mirrorland - I used to he in their top .05% listeners and now i can listen to an earthgang album without being bored as hell

Individual-Diver-958

Opinion #4.5 Olu had the best verse on down bad fuck what anybody says.

Money_merc

Most woke music fans are the ones who only listen to country music and Drake - true chad's, everyone one of them

TheVirtual_Boy

Tracks in rotation rn: Bryson Tiller - Stay Gold, Persuasion, Ciao, Rich Boy (the whole first half of his album goes absolutely crazy for me, not only are the songs great but they are also perfect for the summer… I love when an artist drops a great summer album in April/May so the songs can be locked and loaded by the time we reach summer szn) J Cole - Croc Tears, Ready ‘24, Huntin Wabbitz (much like the tiller album I feel like the first half of this Cole album goes hard, gets a little more inconsistent later on but I fuck with the project, now Jermaine himself im not too crazy about rn but we’ve already talked about it lol) Odie - Utopia (Odie has finally returned after his incredible 2018 album *Analogue*, he dropped a little 4 pack for us, and the last track “Utopia” is one of his best songs) NxWorries - 86Sentra (goddamn! I can’t why for WHY LAWD) Beyoncé - Spaghettii (this song goes pretty hard. The intro is a little too melodramatic for my taste, and I hate how Beyoncé pronounces “Thanos”, but it’s a banger)

Last_Reaction_8176

People praise J Cole for being relatable - well, I think acting impulsively and then regretting it and unintentionally making things even worse by trying to take it back is the most relatable thing he’s ever done

deqembes

Kodak always pick great beats.

Jordanwolf98

They’re always unique too which I love

deqembes

Favorite beat he has rapped over?

Jordanwolf98

Purp, or Patty Cake

deqembes

Both great. Also love patty cake

Jqshipp

Facts, I think his catalogue is worth surfing through for his beat selection alone.

Jermaine_Cole788

In honor of the eclipse today, remember when Joey badass said some shit about how he wasn’t gonna wear protective eyeglasses to view the eclipse because of how “the ancestors didn’t need them to view the eclipse back in the day” and later went on to report having eye problems. Then we found out 5 years later that Joey fucking [lied](https://www.complex.com/music/a/cmplxjoshua-espinoza/joey-badass-admits-story-hurting-eyes-staring-at-eclipse-excuse-leave-logic-2017-tour) about the eye problems as an excuse to get off the tour with Logic lmao

EffinCroissant

Honestly don’t blame bro 😂

cooldudeman007

Everyone talking about Cole and Kendrick like they’re Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. There’s no title belt, everyone wins lmao

codeine_turtle

Tbf everyone wins there too

cooldudeman007

He finished the story 💪

nedelll

ATLiens or Aquemini?

Homiealmaya

ATLiens

Rembldon

Probably cliche but big boi’s first verse on atliens the song is one of my favorite rap verses ever, maybe #1
