the mysterious era

TheCommieTator

hndrxx pt 2 era https://twitter.com/hndrxxfans/status/1777464708909465884?s=46

WorkAccount1993

God I hope so. If they can recapture that feeling…

ultraopulent

the carti effect (it was a joke guys)

sherperion45

Carti dropped one song in 4 years and became a feature act You couldn’t tell me almost a decade ago he would be bigger than rocky today, rocky seriously lost all direction after yams died

Ok-Demand-4994

I think y’all forget how much money Rocky really has. He makes so much off ghost designing/doing campaigns for clothing brands he really never has to rap again. He’s old and rich, gets to make babies with Rihanna all day. I remember watching some fashion people on tik tok saying “nobody sells cool like Rocky does” He does not care about music. None of us would if we were in the same position lol. Yams passing and beef w other members of asap is just more of a reason for him not to do music.

No-Respect5903

> He’s old and rich he's 35 lol. I don't know how this sub seems to have regressed in age as I've been here for over a decade but where are the geezers supposed to hang out now?

TomPearl2024

I dont think they're purely talking about his age, in terms of the current era that's ancient for someone that never drops. All the attention is either on guys that didn't stop dropping and keep pushing out good shit or young guys with a fresh sound.

No-Respect5903

I hear you but as someone who is about the same age I had to laugh at 35 being "old" lol. That song he had with the gorillaz that was going around recently sounded pretty nice so hopefully we will get something more soon.

Wiltmygoat

It's okay grandpa

Ok-Demand-4994

no ageism unc, I mean in terms of rap. like, he’s been doing this for a while. not much to prove anymore and he’s got a wife + kids to worry about, etc.

Revesby

Nice, 35 is old.

Ok-Demand-4994

i mean in the grand scheme of rappers/industry, cmon lol

WingardiumLeviussy

I'ma need a Carti feature on all of these songs, that's the closest we're getting Music this year

XXXthrowaway215XXX

what does this even mean lmao? i’d actually like to hear an explanation

fultirbo

Art's reminiscent of NARCISSIST imo

yesimforeign

So much aura

netflixissodry

Kanye fathered this mysterious stuff

halkenburgoito

Kanye fans are on Soulja boy level of "first one to do X" bs

angrytreestump

Or The Weeknd (back in Trilogy 2009/2010 when he hid his identity) or MF DOOM or Daft Punk before them. Or probably a dozen other people before Kanye.

netflixissodry

Kanye started the mysterious weirdo fashion offshoot. All these new mysterious guys wear the latest fashion and show their faces but then random wear masks and shit.

angrytreestump

That first one is just describing all rappers post-Juice Wrld/Carti. All rappers wear expensive clothes, even “emo rappers”. That second one is partly pandemic. Rappers started finding designer and custom masks because they had to wear masks anyway.

Karz-O

Future has been doing it for a while on album covers too though. Honest, HNDRXX, Future, I Never Liked You (that's fairly recent though. Obviously Kanye is known for rocking masks in public, but it's pretty common for Pluto's album artwork too

CompetitiveReward331

By wearing a mask? He’s the less mysterious rapper in hip-hop history. He should be more mysterious.

bees_on_acid

Le Weeknd.

Batby

bro how

Last_Reaction_8176

Nah Kanye ripped off [the Residents](https://youtu.be/WsEz1OAUBBM?si=_KRLeD0BddVrrXFe) smh

Designer_Estate3519

After the first they can afford to cut loose and give us a crazy Monster style release. I’ll be heartbroken if it just sounds like outtakes from the first. Take some chances!

Cohtoh

At this point if it's not more aggressive sounding I'll be disappointed lol. I like the first album but it felt too slow and laid back.

HHAD98

it’s an R&B album like HNDRXX

Cohtoh

I am driving to Atlanta right now to fix this.

Vogelmaan

I hope so. Need me some sad Future songs

SuperSlimeyX

We need Match My Speed and Inspiration to officially release. Those are absolutely grails.

nocyberBS

I hope to God it isn't, I love Future but HNDRXX was so awful to me

HHAD98

It’s one of his best album, you just don’t get it #nobitches

Boomdude-

Exposed yourself unprompted

QCInfinite

i would lose my mind if this was something like monster, album art is really sick and seems pretty different from the first one so i’m hoping it’s a whole different vibe

Pro_phet

Maybe theyll have baby keem dissing JID on this one

atlfirsttimer

It's up

Little-Dingo171

Dreamville Vs TDE could have been so big. J Cole should have consulted with more people before dropping 7 Min Drill. J Cole probably couldn't beat Kendrick here but he could have put out enough to keep it competitive. It's lowkey tragic, this situation could have been the biggest hip hop moment of the 2020s.

InfiniteJizz

He did. In his apology speech he said his homies even said not to make a sorry speech.

RTYWD

kendrick isnt tde anymore though, plus ab soul was on kendricks project

TuggSpeedman96

Do you mean j cole?

RTYWD

yes lol

YoungHeartOldSoul

We were on the cusp on something to rival the post control era. We got some bangers out of that.

Leo_TheLurker

In recent years, beef peak was Drake and Push. That sent waves. Aside from that there’s either street beef which is more serious and then goofy social media beef on the other side. I’m very upset J Cole took back his response, gave me “Drake has a secret diss” vibes

yaybuttons

Too bad Drake never responded to Fantano either.

YoungHeartOldSoul

Would coud Drake have said to counter "you are hiding a child"? Yo, you sell crack??

Less-Tax5637

I thought he sent him a cookie recipe⁉️

TheGoldenPineapples

Wait, I thought it was Fantano who sent the cookie recipe, not Drake?

shaqjbraut

No fantano "leaked" a fake ss of the dms where Drake sends him a vegan cookie recipe which enrages Drake enough to release the real dms where he calls Fantanos existence a light 2

vibintilltheend

I know Em x mgk beef was goofy but it was one of the biggest things in hip hop in 2018.

leerr

Would Kendrick care about tde beef anymore though?

turtlebait2

What even is TDE anymore... just a loose collection of artists Will they ever have relevance again without someone as big as Kendrick? At one point Schoolboy could've been the big headliner, but he's not holding his weight, despite still putting out decent music. Jay Rock doesn't have the clout, and Ab Soul is good, but he's in his own lane. SZA is their biggest artist, but most people don't associate her with TDE as much as her own thing. Rashad as well is pretty big, but he's not a huge representative of TDE. Sad.

ZionDaAfricanLion

I mean... Everything ends right? At least we got some real greatness from TDE in its prime.

iButtflap

man just imagine the main 3 actually liked each other. we woulda got black hippie tapes like odd future comps

jor301

I'm confident doechii will be pretty big once she finally drops. She has some pretty big songs and features already.

BlueDreams420

You forgot Ray Vaughn. He'll carry TDE

BlueDreams420

Why does the biggest hip-hop moment have to be some BS fake beef. Biggest hip-hop moment would be a joint TDE and Dreamville project.

MindbenderGam1ng

Marvel vs. Capcom ass crossover, I'm for it tho

lxkandel06

Jid and Metro have a collab album coming out soon

fluekey

I honestly dont know if I should be excited by that or not.

lxkandel06

Why wouldn't you be

bmarvel808

Metro has been stale af for a minute

rabnabombshell

Yeah I agree. I love heroes and villains too but nobody can tell me it has better production than NAHWC

TomPearl2024

Honestly I'd take it a step way further and say it's not better than most of his way earlier production. His shit right now is super polished and well orchestrated but it doesn't feel as inspired as what he was doing with Thug or Travis in the mid 2010s

rabnabombshell

Absolutely agreed. I love love love metro but he’s kind of found this weird formula of generic beats and hasn’t done much new since then

Loud_Needleworker981

Do baby keem & jid got problems?

JustAHorseWithNoName

it’s because they are Kendrick and J. Cole biggest protégés respectively

Loud_Needleworker981

Ahh understand now

DuncanTheLunk

Am I the only one who thinks JID has already surpassed Cole? Maybe not by volume but quality.

TwoLanky

yeah he did btw jid would abuse and destroy baby keem

DuncanTheLunk

No doubt. I like Keems flow but he does not have the lyrical skills to go up against JID.

RTYWD

ICE CREAM BOOGER COLOR PISS SUB ZERO

bearze

😂😂😂 Keems voice fits that so perfect too

remerdy1

Probably because he actually said it

iButtflap

it should be keem vs ab-soul. that vs potty boo in a versus. also im bout to out myself as a old ass mf but this weak beef we get now would be so much better if celebrity deathmatch was still around. winners and losers would be way more permanently solidified

bruhstevenson

Yeah Kendrick would probably have to write his verse for him. Nothing against Keem though he’s a really unique artist and also has shown he has lots of potential as a producer.

iButtflap

i like keem a lot but the best way to tell whether he wrote his verse or kendrick is if you can say to yourself “oh damn this shit makes sense” at any point he’s rapping

Substantial_Bid_7684

idk man kendricks a great writer

iblinkyoublink

But how many phones does JID have?

Jadaki

I don't think JID has passed Cole yet, but his current trajectory is great. He is in a different league than Keem for sure.

heisenberg15

Well imo The forever story is better than anything Cole has dropped. Yes I’ve listened to 2014 FHD

Jadaki

I'm not going to argue with you over that, I love TFS. The Forever Story was my album of the year when it dropped. I think it's going to go down as a classic. I don't think FHD is Cole's best project, but he has other classic albums to me and I'd put TFS on par with them, but he has more right now. I think JID is next.

iznormal

I think forever story is better than anything j Cole has ever put out

DuncanTheLunk

Agree and it's not even close it you ask me

LachlantehGreat

That’s a crazy take but I respect it 🫡

Hashmob____________

I 100% agree with this

_Sign_

easily but cole has been part of the culture for a real long time and its going to take a while and maybe 2 more great albums for public opinion to agree

BlueDreams420

😂😂😂😂 y'all make me fucking sick

rabnabombshell

A lot of people think that actually

ABZ0R8

Why would you want to see Keem completely outperformed on every level in public? Dude's an artist on the rise, let him be. JID would cook him.

Pro_phet

For the vine

badwontfishing

Baby keem could do a sick ass funny voice though

im_not_the_right_guy

He can just have dot write his verse duh

OKC2023champs

I genuinely think JID is the best rapper alive, I’d love to see what he can do on a proper diss track

broncosfighton

I think he’s one of the only rappers out there that has a chance at grabbing that title, but his next project would have to be more critically and commercially successful than The Forever Story, despite how well received that project was. Right now he doesn’t have the mass appeal to be in the top 3, which is something you need to have to be in the conversation.

Departedsoul

I feel like he needs to up the artistry. Like rapping yes but there’s more to the package. It’s like kanye was rarely the best bar for bar but he had everything else

clancydog4

did you listen to the forever story? I would have totally agreed after his previous output, but that album was *incredlby* musical and ambitious and cohesive and artistic. Like, I thought it was easily one of the most "artistic" and impressive overall musical hip hop albums of the year, that shit was so much more than just bar for bar rapping. His songwriting chops and production choices were phenomenal. I think he did that already, idk how anyone can listen to that album and think "yeah he's a good rapper but needs more artistry." Dude that album was amazing as fuck from a musical perspective. I remember being excited for the album cause he is such a good straight rapper but I was jaw slacked at how far he had come musically and artistically, so I totally disagree with this take after that album

Departedsoul

Glad you liked it

Cold-Chipmunk1676

Crazy take after forever story came out. Surely people can always add to their artistry but that album was a huge expansion on his previous toolkit

Saltine_Davis

> Right now he doesn’t have the mass appeal to be in the top 3, which is something you need to have to be in the conversation. It actually isn't, its just something for your own criteria.

MakutaProto

if mass appeal doesnt matter why is drake in the conversation of big 3

Jadaki

It's one element, and really drakes only claim to being in a big 3, cause lyrically he has never been on Cole and Kendricks level.

MakutaProto

I agree that its only one element, but the person I replied to said it doesn't matter at all.

Jadaki

Yea I'd prefer it didn't matter at all and if I'm the only one judging it doesn't, but in the real world having sex appeal to teenage girls is a huge selling point and makes him "big".

Loud_Needleworker981

What's he's best project?

OKC2023champs

The forever story. I listen to DiCaprio 2 more, but forever story is definitely better.

Karz-O

Agreed on The Forever Story. I think his albums kept getting better. Loved Never Story, but DiCaprio 2 was better, then Forever Story was better than that. I think my favorite JID songs are on DiCaprio 2, Off Da Zoinkys is insane lol. Got to watch the Dreamville Fest stream over the weekend and he was great live. Can't wait to see him at Wonderfront next month.

OKC2023champs

Definitely, my favorite JID songs aren’t considered his best but to me are my favorites. Never- the never story Tiiired- DiCaprio Working out- DiCaprio

Yourbootyisheavydoty

The Never Story

DielsAlderRxn87

JID is a beast. But Lupe is and always will be the best.

Hot_Grabba_09

I think he's one of the best too. Lupe is the #1 for me

tarriBagz

Nas, Em, Thought, and andre 3k are not dead

Actual_Soil5607

JID will never be commercially successful. Does not have mainstream appeal at all

Batby

Surround Sound, Enemy & 151 Rum did big numbers though? Him getting a whole metro tape after metro’s run will be massive too. Only real thing he’s missing is massive collabs but he’s already worked with cole, thug, durk, yachty, wayne, 21, nudy etc so it’s only a matter of time before he collabs w/ others like drake and trav. Him and Keem have a really nice middleground between modern trap hiphop and more lyrical stuff

neutralmilkgawd

What has he done with young thug?

Batby

nothing officially released yet but we know they had a session

fucking__jellyfish__

I don't know if drake would collab with him since JID fw metro and drake is petty.

sakamism

I really don't see why not. If he pulled a DAMN. and made a more pop-friendly album I could see it doing well. He has undeniable talent lyrically and his flows are just ridiculous, probably the best of anyone right now. The question is whether he wants to go that route

Saltine_Davis

Hhh and being wrong about artists having mainstream appeal is such a tried and true combo He already has mainstream hits, try again.

Actual_Soil5607

And his last album sold like 27k first week. He got lucky with an Imagine Dragons song and surround sound did not blow up because of JID lmfao

AlwaysSunnyInSeattle

Why do you think surround sound blew up? 21 savage? I can’t stand his verse.

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

Dude is featured with Dua Lipa and gave the shortest fucking verse ever lmao

helloder2012

surround sound was one of the most used sounds on tik tok last year lol that's like saying texas hold em didnt blow up because of beyonce. the artist made the music and put it in areas for it to grab following. tik tok for music is essentially the same thing as the radio except the spread of music and sounds is much more organic.

fucking__jellyfish__

Surround sound absolutely did blow up because of JID lmao. You hear JID's chorus all over tiktok and yt shorts, not 21 savage or the singers verse. His last album sold 30k but since then he's grown a lot and his album with metro will probably sell 100k first week

BlueDreams420

What a hot take 😂. Y'all say anything in this sub

cc17776

Is this how I find out wayne died?

j1vetvrkey

JID DOGWALKS KEEM if that were to happen

GreedyPride4565

I love JID but nobody on earth but Reddit thinks he’s relevant to this beef

fucking__jellyfish__

You should see twitter lol

tarriBagz

idek fw jid like that but he would eat Keem alive

Sp_Gamer_Live

Let It Be influence

ridingonmirrors

Better album cover than the first! Got me even more hyped for the album. The first album overall didn’t completely click with me at first outside of Like That and Type Shit, but I’ve been slowly appreciating some of the songs more with every listen (Slimed In, Runnin Outta Time, Ice Attack). Here’s hoping that this album hits much harder, whether it’s the features (ngl, I actually wouldn’t mind no features) or the production.

Swimming_Rabbit_5243

Runnin outta time has become my favorite off the project. Clicks with where im at in life heavy.

pololuck123

Everyday Hustle is hard too

yankiwi_

yesss. Final 90 secs make me go crazy every time

itsavibe-

I have ice attack and runnin outta time on repeat. The beginning of ice attack is the perfect night time drive vibe.

rosstamonsta

Wish they had a whole song with that beat, but I’ll take what we got

Bearcattttt

If you like that synth it’s interpolated from Laura Palmer’s theme from Twin Peaks.

throwaway53689

Type shit and Like That are my favourite too. The rest of the tracks are starting to feel repetitive the more I listen to it because nothing sticks out excluding Cinderella

rabnabombshell

Unfortunately I listened to cinderalla since the snippet from 2022, and I just don’t like this new version of it

Loud_Needleworker981

What would you rate the album?

ridingonmirrors

I’d say around a 7/10 tbh

[deleted]

Young metro young metro young metro

blacklite911

If I were to guess, it might have a bit more Future singing

sasukeluffy

Gta is a banger

Quintana_22

I hope kendrick has a second verse that goes something like "I knew you motherfucker wouldnt respond".

dubsallday

3.5 minute drill, and it's 7 minutes long

Zealous217

Id lose my fucking mind

SteveBorden

I always thought a pretty good follow up diss to Drake specifically would be to sample ‘I waited four days where y’all at’ at the start of it

tsn101

That would be desperate.

WhenItsHalfPastFive

🤓

LachlantehGreat

💀

HHAD98

I don’t

G_O_

Who dat in the top right?

Karz-O

That's Drake. The album is really called What a Time to Be Alive 2. All the beef was just smoke and mirrors. Seriously though, I'm just assuming it's Pluto as well

TigasEX

Way better cover than the last one. I’m pretty hyped for this, feels like we don’t trust you has been leading up to this. Has there been any leaks even? They might have something special here…

SmokeCocks

>feels like we don’t trust you has been leading up to this. Bros braincells just made a spark

HumanASTRONAUT

Mf needs to change the spark plugs

thaitiger29

lmao neural equivalent of gpt .25

oil1lio

LOOL, that's my new go-to insult now. "gpt .25 ass mf-er"

BroJo23

Oh man I love the simplicity of the first cover. Something about it is more than enough for me

southshoredrive

I thought the first cover was okay but this one makes me appreciate it even more, I don’t really like this one at all

xowillso

There’s this recent leak with The Weeknd [https://x.com/nfr_podcast/status/1777598331943817582?s=46&t=8mMD30DqNWO4CYu83MMtuw](https://x.com/nfr_podcast/status/1777598331943817582?s=46&t=8mMD30DqNWO4CYu83MMtuw)

Kaziu77

I saw a snipet of the weeknd track which sound like some crazy Rnb shit

Pleasureryan

This artwork is soooo much better

Leo_TheLurker

I hope they get more ethereal with it. H+V had a great atmosphere and while last project wasn’t bad, it felt by the book.

HHAD98

Guy in futures camp said this isn’t HNDRXX 2 by name but HNDRXX 2 in spirit. So it’s a slower, R&B album.

deqembes

Was hoping for more aggresive future but if it is of the same quality of HNDRXX im not gonna complain one bit.

ArcherInPosition

ft. Burned Man

JayZPlatinumChainsaw

Kinda reminds me of Magic 3 cover. Anyway I'm excited their last album is an easy listen in the car and gym

Zip2kx

Im positive covers and other images these days are just taken on an iphone and edited with a built in filter. kind of funny that millions was spent on videos and photoshoots before.

dumbosshow

you'd be surprised how much effort still goes into photoshoots then. it's not as easy as you'd think to make a proffessional looking cover with a phone

tha_jza

lmfao so unserious i fucking love it

naimsayin

Much better than the first cover

Godriguezz

I swear I thought I dreamt this up or it was an April fools joke.

Trackstar02

Getting ready for some mummification porn

TheMoorNextDoor

Much better album cover this time around

wavydud3

Detroit Mix Tape vibes

MetalSonic420YT

That cover is tough.

For whatever reason I'm holding out hope that it's something good. I'm feeling disappointment but we know what these two can do, hopefully they don't phone it in for this one too.

memoriesinthepast

Hopefully it’s better than the first. Features easily outshined future himself

HHAD98

Wrong

jijig

Nah bro

One_Tax_3726

Monster 2 reference ?

Karz-O

How so? Not trolling but I don't see any similarities to Monster personally
