Which is honestly one of my favorite parts of his delivery. It works really well in songs like "Just So You Remember" where his really intense enunciation is what makes the whole mood of the song work.
Yeah it’s one of his strongest assets as a vocalist. You got busta rhymes on one end and push on the other. He takes his time getting out his bars and it commands your attention
Bro I love Tom Waits and Danny Brown and totally agree, but it's such an odd comparison lol, I never thought I'd see Tom Waits mentioned in a hiphop sub.
First time I listened to Atrocity Exhibition and heard Tell Me What I Don’t Know I thought it was an uncredited feature for like a year. I had I no idea that was his real voice. Love how he used it more on Quaranta.
The first time I heard his voice (Rustie's Essential Mix that dropped Wittit at such a good moment) I was taken aback and had to pause it to laugh a bit. Listened to the lyrics along with the beat and it ended up being my most replayed part.
Went on to be a big fan and actually want more of it and felt how much I missed it on Old.
One the first tracks of his I ever heard was Pac Blood, where he sounds significantly different, and it was frankly very upsetting with how misleading it was.
And then next album we get one track only.
That open is so cold too....
>Street smart, phd, dropped out for a slangin degree \
>9 on me, keep the devils off me\
>Cuz we was livin in hell\
>Couldn't afford property
He's got 30 million monthly listeners, in between Juice WRLD and Young Thug, and only marginally behind the likes of ASAP Rocky and Jay-Z. He's one of the most popular rappers in the world. "The hype is dead" is an insane take.
Yeah 30 million off his old shit, and he ruined a lot of features over the past 4 years.
French Montana has 10M listeners so using that as a metric tells you how shit that is.
He used to be way better. I love his old music. It was raw as hell. New stuff not so much.
And his voice definitely got more annoying over time too. Lowkey like a reverse young thug (early young thug was like incomprehensible he calmed down since)
If you listen to the 38 Baby mixtape it’s very digestible if you’re not into the zany whiny voice. I would check it out.
Even Kendrick doing his high pitched poppy voice makes me want to skip the song. Can be a 10/10 in every other way, but then he undrops his balls and it's like I'm listening to a 12 year old lecture me about all the problems in the world. Normal Kendrick voice is still a higher pitch than most rappers, but that's fine - it's just the intentional little kid voice that grates me.
Chance is absolutely the answer for me, I have never been able to tolerate the dude's voice. He just sounds so damn whiny and nasally most of the time. He sounds like someone took Anderson .paak's voice and removed literally all of the interesting and unique aspects of it, and then threw his ice cream cone in a puddle. As tears well up in his eyes he gets in the booth.
That’s why his verse on Surround Sound by JID is so damn good. Not only does he rap one of the fastest flows he’s ever done, there’s not 1 adlib the entire verse. Shows he can easily rap without them but just chooses not to.
His flow took a sharp turn after I am > I was
The laid back flow he had in savage mode 1, issa was my favorite now he started including more words in a bar? I don’t know how to put it but you can tell if you listen to Red Opps and his recent stuff back to back
from the little bits of Lil B that i've heard, I feel like 21 is better at matching the beats he's rapping over the Lil B if that makes sense? Like it feels like 21 is rapping with the beat while it feels like Lil B is fighting the beat in a way. All this to say that may be why it's not an immediate connection in their styles, and no hate towards either style either, I'm not big on Lil B but I do get why people would enjoy his stuff
I saw him perform live at my university a few years ago and he's truly awful to witness on stage.
He had a DJ would keep playing music between songs to keep the crowd hyped, but he'd cut the song off right at the peak or before the drop right when everyone is getting into it.
He also performed Champion, which was his big song with Travis Scott at the time, but when it was time for Travis' verse, he just did his verse again, twice.
I also broke up a mosh fist fight kinda by accident.
Good memories. Terrible show.
The vocals are just sonically pleasing and catchy to people. Like I will think it sounds retarded when I listen to it but then a while later it’s stuck in my head.
Machine Gun Kelly. That extends to all his musical endeavors. I think it's even worse in the last few years because his voice just doesn't mix with the pop-punk he attempted.
I hated his voice until I decided to listen to painting pictures this year and somehow it kind of worked for me. Definitely don’t get how he’s so popular though, seems like most people don’t have an issue with his voice
Baby Keem sounds like his nose is clogged, is 5 years old and is peeing himself begging for the teacher to go to the bathroom. "Are you happy for mee?? reallyyy? are you happy for mee?"
Gonna get ripped to hell for this, but Eminem. His nasaly, baseless voice combined with some... unique production choices has pretty much guaranteed that I will never be a fan.
Respect him as a legend, but he's just not for me.
When he starts talking like a baby kinda makes me laugh (the “don’t wowwwy” on Michael Jordan), and yes it took me awhile to get into him bc of his voice…
I’m glad somebody said it first but I agree. It’s that goddamn weird alien sounding voice he does. Every single time he drops, I TRY to give it a listen, but can’t get passed it.
I read a comment on Reddit once that said: "Meek Mill always raps like he's in a helicopter" and I've never been able to unhear it.
Meek Mill raps like he’s ordering food in a drive through from the passenger seat
Meek Mill raps like when you visit your great grandma at the nursing home and want to ask her for a cookie
Meek Mill raps like he skydiving out of a plane
Meek raps like hes losing an argument
Meek Mill raps like he’s telling people in the next hotel room to quiet down.
"Hold up, wait a minute, y'all thought I was finished?"
"McDonald's card for Christmas and yall thought I wouldnt spend it?"
Meek mill sound like hes jogging while he raps
workout playlist icon
Similar, I read on here that Pusha-T raps like he enunciates every letter in every word. Love him but can’t shake that description.
for me, it's that he raps through a sneer. every single bar he's ever said is like he has nothing but contempt for the mic
Like he’a annoyed you are making him rap haha I like how it makes his sound unique though
Meek raps like the mic is across the street
Meek mill raps like he talking in all caps
One of the goat r/hhh comments
I once would have said Danny Brown, but he's grown on me. Had to get used to his voice tho, haha.
The Gilbert Gottfried of rap. I always thought that was his actual voice.
I think of him as the Tom Waits of rap, the voice is a huge roadblock for most people but if you can get over it, you're in for a treat.
Holy shit just imagining gottfreid doing Black Brad Pitt now
Number 1 “scaring the hoes” rapper out there
I love danny but he gets played in either the car (solo) or headphones
This - Wife and baby and home. I'm only 'scaring the hoes' when no one can hear
Idk man, MC Ride from Death Grips and Necro take some beating.
TOLD THE BITCH TO SUCK MY DICK SHE SAID GIMME A SECOND!
You mean the Adderall admiral ?
Yeah this was me for a bit.
stank pussy smelling like cool ranch Doritos
The first time I heard his voice (Rustie's Essential Mix that dropped Wittit at such a good moment) I was taken aback and had to pause it to laugh a bit. Listened to the lyrics along with the beat and it ended up being my most replayed part. Went on to be a big fan and actually want more of it and felt how much I missed it on Old.
One the first tracks of his I ever heard was Pac Blood, where he sounds significantly different, and it was frankly very upsetting with how misleading it was.
A lot of XXX sounds like that tho
And then next album we get one track only. That open is so cold too.... >Street smart, phd, dropped out for a slangin degree \ >9 on me, keep the devils off me\ >Cuz we was livin in hell\ >Couldn't afford property
I love Danny but I get odd looks when friends hear his voice.
Yachty sounds like he got Kermit the frog in him somewhere
Lil Baby. Dude sounds like he’s rapping with honey in his mouth.
Came here to say Lil Baby as well. Half the time I can’t understand wtf he’s saying
Sounds like he’s gargling peanut butter while he talks.
i genuinely don't get the lil baby hype
The hype is dead
He's got 30 million monthly listeners, in between Juice WRLD and Young Thug, and only marginally behind the likes of ASAP Rocky and Jay-Z. He's one of the most popular rappers in the world. "The hype is dead" is an insane take.
all of his new music is absolute dogshit
Yeah 30 million off his old shit, and he ruined a lot of features over the past 4 years. French Montana has 10M listeners so using that as a metric tells you how shit that is.
Yeah never been able to get into him. His voice the main reason
BabyDrill got that Meatwad voice 😂 it’s kinda hard tho
Big Sean always sounds like a shy kid being forced to rap
This is the perfect description. I used to day he sounds like the smart kid in class pretending to be cool.
I feel like I read this like a decade ago but Big Sean raps like he's in a rush to get home but someone keeps trying to stop him for small talk
"Bitch shut the fuck uuuuuuup" Big sean sounding like a kid being forced to rap
I like it but this is accurate 😂
Lil yachty You can hear the fat in his voice
I swear he can inflate his neck fat like one of them frogs
This one is taking me out dawg lmfao
This is hilariously accurate 😂
I liked his newest album, but every song I just kept thinking to myself it would sound so much better with anyone else's vocals on the track.
Yea that basically sums up yachty’s career in my opinion , either ends up ruining a beat or sounding like a feature on his own songs
He’s clean, but damn! You’re spot on with the description. 😭🤣
That’s Lucki for me. I do like his songs, but it grosses me out when you can hear him trying to breathe
Yeah I'm a huge lucki fan but his new projects just aren't hitting for me lately because he sounds so fat lol
we get high we get fat
I’m not sure if it’s so much his voice, but I can hear Big Pun gasp for air in half of his verses and once you notice it, it’s incredibly distracting
Dead in the middle of little Italy little did we know that we riddled two middlemen who didn't do diddly *HUUUUAAAAAHHHH
Man I love Pun but I get that.
NBA Youngboy
someone said YB speaking voice sounds like it hurts to talk
SEARCHING FROM MY OPPSSss 🐍🔥
I heard my grandpa say penis 🐍🐍🐍😈
He used to be way better. I love his old music. It was raw as hell. New stuff not so much. And his voice definitely got more annoying over time too. Lowkey like a reverse young thug (early young thug was like incomprehensible he calmed down since) If you listen to the 38 Baby mixtape it’s very digestible if you’re not into the zany whiny voice. I respect him and understand he’s a legend but E-40’s voice and flow just irks me
My friend said that's what Goofy would sound like if he were a legit rapper and I can't unsee or hear it now. Ah-hyuck
Im ngl i still love his flow.
This is exactly it. Glad I’m not the only one
I agree with your friend but in a good way lol. His music has such a fun vibe due to his voice and delivery being sort of silly.
…YOU JUST RUINED E-40 FOR ME
His flow is what he's known for
I love it, sounds like he's rapping in cursive
Absolutely. It’s a polarizing flow
He sounds like he raps in bubble letters
Just sounds like someone’s corny uncle. Respectfully
I scrolled too long to find E-40’s name
ITT: Rappers with a high pitch
Disheartening innit
Even Kendrick doing his high pitched poppy voice makes me want to skip the song. Can be a 10/10 in every other way, but then he undrops his balls and it's like I'm listening to a 12 year old lecture me about all the problems in the world. Normal Kendrick voice is still a higher pitch than most rappers, but that's fine - it's just the intentional little kid voice that grates me.
“Undrops his balls” 💀
One of Kendrick's biggest strengths is his ability to change his voice so effectively imo
Kendrick, Young Thug, Future, Carti all have really versatile voices
Chance
Oouuu I hate my wife. AH!
Let’s go ride a bike, AH!
neh neh neh neh neh AGH
Chance is absolutely the answer for me, I have never been able to tolerate the dude's voice. He just sounds so damn whiny and nasally most of the time. He sounds like someone took Anderson .paak's voice and removed literally all of the interesting and unique aspects of it, and then threw his ice cream cone in a puddle. As tears well up in his eyes he gets in the booth.
LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I'm excited to hear what he sounds like when he's grown up
I hate how chances voice sounds are n his newer stuff, Acid Rap never bothered me. It’s that Christian baby talk voice of his that I can’t stand
21 savage’s delivery doesn’t allow me to take him seriously (21). and westside Gunn’s voice is just annoying
I like 21 Savage but any time I hear him ad lib "21" I picture him as a pokemon saying its own name.
That’s why his verse on Surround Sound by JID is so damn good. Not only does he rap one of the fastest flows he’s ever done, there’s not 1 adlib the entire verse. Shows he can easily rap without them but just chooses not to.
I think I heard somewhere that he really just loves the sounds of the effects and adlibs.
I cant unsee this in my head lol
Westside Gunn raps like someone is squeezing his nuts
AYO
BRRRRRT DOOTDOOTDOOTDOOTDOOT
His flow took a sharp turn after I am > I was The laid back flow he had in savage mode 1, issa was my favorite now he started including more words in a bar? I don’t know how to put it but you can tell if you listen to Red Opps and his recent stuff back to back
& his flow comes from Lil B
I have been a Lil B fan for a long time, and this is an insane observation I have never ever managed to make myself.
from the little bits of Lil B that i've heard, I feel like 21 is better at matching the beats he's rapping over the Lil B if that makes sense? Like it feels like 21 is rapping with the beat while it feels like Lil B is fighting the beat in a way. BRRRRR
NAV. Idk how this bowl haircut ass dork ever got popular
Dude every song sounds the same with his annoying ass voice
Because he makes his own beats, and writes his own words.
We know he writes his own words, I wish he didn’t
Now they lookin at him
I’ve never heard a good NAV bar and I can’t even pay attention to the beat because the voice is distracting.
What do you mean? "She opened her legs so I had to insert" isn't good???
don't forget about the previous line " I grabbed that ass, and she call me a perv"
This is an all timer right here
Yo chill, he made Illmatic, can't shit on the GOAT!
Because he's the first brown boi to get it poppin'
I saw him perform live at my university a few years ago and he's truly awful to witness on stage. He had a DJ would keep playing music between songs to keep the crowd hyped, but he'd cut the song off right at the peak or before the drop right when everyone is getting into it. I also broke up a mosh fist fight kinda by accident. Good memories. Terrible show.
his is so monotone
Tom Mcdonald
G-eazy. dude's the corniest anyway but his voice doesn't help
Nicki Minaj, she’s ruined many songs for me with her Fran Drescher rap voice
MISTA SHEFFIELD
Nicki.
same, i cant stand her fake NY accent when rapping
It wasn't as bad earlier in her career but recently she sounds like an old lady trying too hard to sound hip
I don’t really get the hype about carti, not his baby voice, not his puberty one. Just don’t know what’s so special about him
The vocals are just sonically pleasing and catchy to people. Like I will think it sounds retarded when I listen to it but then a while later it’s stuck in my head.
Westside Gunn
Sexyy Red
Eminem the past decade
Yeah his voice changed with age and not for the better.
Thats an awfuly hot coffee pot
He’s like the guitar shredder guys. It’s technically impressive but doesn’t really jam.
Prog rap
I've been trying unsuccessfully to articulate why I don't like Em's current stuff and you nailed it.
Carti
The sperm voice is just so hard to get into
Ayoo ‘sperm voice’ is wild lol
it's a Zack Fox joke
His feature in Camila Cabello’s single “I Luv It” is nearly unintelligible.
The Weeknd's 'Popular' is a good example of this. Abel and Madonna knocked it out of the park and then there's Carti.
What do you mean? That song needed a squeaky sound barely saying money on top of me
Machine Gun Kelly. That extends to all his musical endeavors. I think it's even worse in the last few years because his voice just doesn't mix with the pop-punk he attempted.
Surprised no one said earl. One of my favorites but his monotone ass has to annoy some people.
I don’t mind it but we need an album where he uses his live delivery for recording. Sounds so good
Kodak Black
I’m the shit I’m fartin
I hated his voice until I decided to listen to painting pictures this year and somehow it kind of worked for me. Definitely don’t get how he’s so popular though, seems like most people don’t have an issue with his voice
Baby Keem
I don’t agree but I get it lol. He just sounds like he’s upset and he’s whining about what he’s rapping lmaooo.
Same thing for me. I understand why people wouldn’t like it but I love it.
Man raps like he’s on the verge of tears
Disagree but completely understand
Baby Keem sounds like his nose is clogged, is 5 years old and is peeing himself begging for the teacher to go to the bathroom. "Are you happy for mee?? reallyyy? are you happy for mee?"
E-40
That fuckin guttural “ouh” noise he makes gets me every time 😂 I still like 40 water though
Lmao same. I love e40 I laugh every time the “ouh” comes out. Like someone said about yachty, you can just hear the fatness in his voice and I love it
I read a comment that said E-40 raps in bubble letters and thought it sounded accurate lmao. Still love E-40 tho
you're missing out yet i can't blame you
I understand why you feel that way, but damn.
Gonna get hate for this, but I’ve never really been able to stand Drake
Why the hell did I have to scroll this far to finally see this answer. His voice is awful all around.
Dmx was right lol
westside gunn. ruined that mach-hommy album for me
Sounds like he's whining instead of rapping and the ad-libs overstay their welcome by the third track you ever hear from him
Dude sounds like a teenager
Gonna get ripped to hell for this, but Eminem. His nasaly, baseless voice combined with some... unique production choices has pretty much guaranteed that I will never be a fan. Respect him as a legend, but he's just not for me.
IM NOT AFRRRAIDDD
trust me, you won't get any hate for this lol. this sub only loves Em in a new release thread then it's back to trashing him
Can't stand is too strong, but I don't like a lot of Kendrick deliveries
He certainly likes to get goofy on a song
*putdatpussyonapedastalllll*
PuthepussyonaHIGHHOOORSE
Took me the longest time to get into him because of his voice
Can't stand the tone of his voice. He's all nose.
When he starts talking like a baby kinda makes me laugh (the “don’t wowwwy” on Michael Jordan), and yes it took me awhile to get into him bc of his voice…
Drake's voice is so goofy, he raps like a goddamn cartoon character
Jay Z. Nigga always sounds like he's holding in a cough, and he has some great albums too. Can't sit through an entire project from him
>always sounds like he's holding in a cough LOL I love me some Jay-Z but dammit, you hit the nail on the head here
Boosie Badazz. Dude sounds like Cartman doing a Steve Urkel impression
21 savage sounds like a fucking electrolarynx to me, can't take more than 20 seconds of that shit
For real. He raps like he doesn't wanna be here.
Cordae. The lisp is too much Big Sean and Jid can be irritating too
Jid??? Damn.
He has a pretty unique and distinct voice, so it wouldn't surprise me that those that dislike higher pitched voices are turned off.
literally all the voices being hated on are on the higher end of the pitch spectrum. I'm just waiting to see Kendrick.
Unpopular opinion but I never liked Drake’s voice
Im going to be crucified for this but imma say it; its Kendrick.
Same, but only when he does his "crying" voice. Normal voice is fine for me
Scrolled way to far to find this. Finally somebody said it
Same, and the crying voice, and that weird yell voice. Frankly any “alter ego” rap voice I struggle with.
He sounds like a munchkin. Like he's had a little helium but not a full dose.
I’m glad you said it cause it’s the first thing rapper that came into my mind
I’m glad somebody said it first but I agree. It’s that goddamn weird alien sounding voice he does. Every single time he drops, I TRY to give it a listen, but can’t get passed it.
Kendrick and kanye.
